He is of Iranian ancestry, the grandson of a guy who worked for the Shah (who the US helped regain power in the 50s--he's the guy that got run out during the Revolution in the 70s). He's saying that if Bush attacks Iran, then it will set back any sort of modernization for decades. Iran has a huge population of young people who are seemingly open to liberal democracy, and they would be radicalized (against the West) by war with the US. Doesn't seem that complicated to me.

Is this the book about why people from certain areas of the world came to dominate the world? I've been watching the 3 part documentary and it's been pretty interesting. Yeah, that's the one.

Uh oh. I think I may have been wrong about agreeing with the vast majority of scientists on this global warming thing. The "global warming is a hoax" crowd just picked up a MAJOR free agent to add to the the dream team of Inhofe & Michael Crichton. That's right... PAT SAJAK~!

Toby...yeah! Also, the Margaret Thatcher line killed me.

We're getting into a lot of repeats at this point.

I'm new to Lost. I have watched Season One & it has been kind of a bonding thing for my fiancee and me because we both enjoy it, but I find the show exasperating. Perhaps this has already been covered in the thread, but do you guys feel like they just keep on opening up these new questions and never answering them? Hey, it's ! Hey, it's a ! Hey, ! Some of these things are what makes the show exciting, but it just seems like they could at least answer one question every now & then before bringing up 20 new ones.

I don't know much about him, but I've heard he's an idiot. At least that's the impression my fiancee had when she lived in Beantown. -
Judging by your pictures in your sig. You seem to be doing well, KOAB. You got a crotch rocket, some awesome shorts & boots...

FRISTED~! Volume 2: Frist Strikes Backs Recently, my fiancee's big shot super rich uncle (who I'm expecting some tremendously sweet wedding gifts from) (motherfucker has an MD and a phD) was interviewing for some very important job in DC. There were only like 3 to 5 people nationally that qualified for the job. One of his competitors was Frist. Her uncle was told that he didn't get the job because he didn't have enough political connections. Who got it? Fucking Frist.

FRISTED~! Volume 1: Genesis So my fiancee's aunt was in med school at UT at the same time as Frist. She claims that Frist pinched her on the ass one day while they were working together.

My fiancee's family has had, now, two run-ins with (the just mentioned by Jerk) Bill Frist now.

I don't get why it isn't okay to point out that he doesn't support a very popular policy. A lot of people probably don't know that he opposes it. So every time the minimum wage is mentioned the site needs to trot out an economist or Bob Reich to point out its merits? Yes. Because it would take the site, like, all of 2 minutes to cite an argument on why eliminating the minimum wage is bad. Simply saying a policy is unpopular as a means to criticize a candidate is stupid, and assumes that conventional wisdom is always right, like when everyone thought the Earth was flat way back when. I really don't want to argue on this, but... If a considerable majority of people already support raising the minimum wage, then why would someone whose only goal was to convince voters not to support McCain really need to explain why not supporting the minimum wage is a bad thing? As a point of comparison, let's say John McCain hates puppies. Now if I wanted to write an article that says that John McCain hates puppies, would I really need to go into great detail regarding all of the wonderful attributes of puppies?
