    The NBA Offseason Thread

The Hawks are going to match. thats just them floating crap out there. Its not like they need to save money for all the other free agents that will be flocking to Atlanta. He is 22 years old, is just starting to be at the tip of the player he could turn to, and he is a home town guy. No way that they don't resign him. Hell, Rick Sund gave Chris Wilcox 20 something million to be...well...Chris Wilcox. They will resign Josh. in funny news, the guy got better every year. He closed out last year like a monster as a 21 year. With a chance to sign him for around 54 mill for 5 years last year, the Hawks wouldn't offer more than 45 mil, let him play another year and get his expected jump in stats and abilities and now they are looking at a guy that will be close to the max. They probably could have had Josh Childress for around 4 mill a year, but he probably played himself into a mid level price tag at the very least. Once again, if anyone watched the team, this was no suprise. I have no idea what the fuck they think they are going to save money for.

Oh Vick was at fault too. His insistance on becoming a complete pocket passer was moronic. Its like Reggie Miller saying he was going to try and stop taking jumpshots. You don't remove what makes you special to become more ordinary. Also, Vick didn't have short pass touch. He would rifle that bitch out there when the guy was 10 yards down the field. It woudl get there and if caught would be a big gain, but guys were giong to miss alot of those. People liked to talk about his accuracy, but that wasn't really the problem. Vick seldom missed open recievers and he put the ball in places where it could be caught. Just with way too much velocity. He seemed to have alot more touch when dealing with Reeves. then there was a change in QB coaches and his touch was inconsistant. His receivers weren't great and dropped some easy ones, but they also dropped some lasers that I could understand dropping (although that one 10 drop game by his group still is the most amazingly bad game i have ever seen from professionals). its a shame. I honestly felt that Vick was a type of player you could build your offense around, put him out there with journey men that were good at their role, blow your wad on defense and get a Superbowl out of it. But then he let a mutha fucker with no job talk him into spending his money on dog fighting. Oh well.

Also with vick and Stewart, you also have to take into account of coaching philosophy change (with Vick) and the players around them (with McNabb and Stewart). Vick was a fine QB under Reeves, because Reeves knew how to run a offense. They then fired him for a offensive coordinator that didn't allow his QB's to audible because the plays he called were right all the time, they cut all the offensive linemen or made then lose weight because none of them were allowed to be over 300lbs and Vicks recievers were leading the league in drops (although I still think alot of this could be attributed to the spin of the ball from a lefty). The subtraction of a coach willing to try some stuff and run a better playbook for one that only had recievers running 3 routes, with no audibles and no real protection(its not like the sack numbers went down with Harrington, and Leftwich back there) was the real reason for the decline in Vicks passing attempts and numbers. Kordell lost most of his offensive line and recievers after his successful years. I don't think he was that good of a QB, but I still think he was better than Tommy fucking Maddox and kinda got a raw deal there.
  4. Well...alot of rebounds? I think with Howard and Bosh they will be okay though. And we would have been fine last time had Larry Brown not been a total ass.
  5. Problem is, no other team in the world has ever done it. They have guys that turn pro and are playing with the best competition in the country(and alot of guys that were THIS close to making it in the NBA) from the time they are 16. There is no NCAA there. Its go pro. So it was always US college guys playing a bunch of professional basketball players from other countries. Us sending our pros just evened up the playing field.
  6. Okay first...How can you NOT like William fucking Hurt? jesus dude. But the reason i would go to the Hulk second is because the first Hulk was a great psychological focus on Bruce Banner which was awesome....then they threw in mutant dogs and Nick Nolte and mucked it up. I was too afraid that they would go as far from the original as possible and turn it into a "HULK SMASH" summer blockbuster, blow-some-more-shit-upathon. Even with Norton involved. And then there were reports that he was pissed about the final edit, which didn't make me want to see it more. So I would have seen get smart first if I REALLY wanted to see either of them. I like the cast and its just a comedy...not much it could do to muck that up.
  7. thing is, Prince is about 10 times more useful than Melo on this team.

The only flaw there is that all the scrambling QB's got hurt behind the line standing in the pocket. All of them. Vick broke his leg when his offensive lineman fell and he got sacked from behind in the pocket. Culpepper knee was destroyed on a guy coming untouched. McNabb, I can't even remember the last time he got hurt by running the ball. Scrambling QB's are seeing the same amount of injuries that non mobile guys are seeing. Its just that there is an assumption along with the mobile QB that he was hurt, he must have been running the ball and taking a big hit. The problem is the stupidity in trying to match up a scrambling QB with a mobile, smaller line instead of going with the hosses like the pocket guys have. It was a dumb way of building a team that lead to the guys having to tuck the ball so much faster because they had shitty lines. then people assumed they were taking so many hits because they were running when if you watched them play, it wasn't the case. I still think a mobile QB with a traditional line would be the way to go. The added threat on the field is just too huge to ignore.
  10. Tiny penis man shouldn't have been funny, I should have more sophisticated humor than that. But I fucking laughed. I liked the movie, but for some reason it seemed overyly long. I don't know why...just did. "YOU DON"T WANT NO PARTS OF THIS DEWEY!" also made me laugh everytime. The rap song that sampled walk hard was some great production. The rapper sucks though. The video was kinda awesome in that over the top "no one poor liquor on women in a rap video but lets play to that belief" kind of way.

2008 NBA Finals: Lakers vs. Celtics

Thats putting them pretty low. both of them had led teams to the Eastern Conference finals once, Allen has been a part of some damn good teams, and is getting close to catching Miller for 3 pointers made in a career. I already went over Paul Pierce. Vince, T-Macn, Arenas, Bosh...only one has been out of the first round of the playoffs.
  15. 300 is good at what it was supposed to be. I mean, it was the same as the comic with the queen subplot tacked on to make the movie longer. If you thought the book was boring, you would find the movie boring. I think people were expecting more from it than it was ever going to be. Alba can't act. this is true. But even I have to admit that she is something special to look at. And i have a pretty different taste in women.

Watch the ball. There is no way it didn't hit something. Or, like I said, that kid has a AMAZING curve ball. Also, you have to take into account that Ump moved while the pitcher was already in his motion. If this was intentional, this was one of the greatest throws ever. He hit a moving target with a curveball and the catcher has the perfect timing to move out the way. I mean hell, the kid was cupping his glove for a low pitch. I personally think it was either a cross up or that pitch got away from the kid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tsFSALrA1o I was reading about this story on ESPN and about how the catcher has lost his chance to play college ball because of this OBVIOUS attempt to hit the ref and the obvious conspiracy between the pitcher and the catcher. Am I like, the only one on the planet to see that the ball hit the batter, bounced off the ref and the catcher was obviously looking for the ball to be low. Whats being suggested here is that the pitcher either has a MONSTER curve ball, or is so accurate he knew he would bouce the ball off the batters helmet into the umps face. I am somehow doubting that skill. I think these kids are getting a raw deal here.

2008 NBA Finals: Lakers vs. Celtics

6 time leading offense and 2 MVP awards...of course he should get in on the first ballot. I know you don't like the guy, but thats just beyond silly. His career numbers are 14.3 PPG, 7.9 APG (12,278 total points, 6,787 assists), or basically he's not on par with a guy with no HOF aspirations like Stephon Marbury 19.7/7.8 (16,209/6,396 and he's 3 years younger). If he didn't have the 2 MVPs he wouldn't be a Hall of Famer. As it is he does NOT deserve to make it in on the first ballot unless he does something in the postseason. Players are remembered for their best years. not "hey lets average in his points and assist from the days in Phoenix when he was Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnsons backup and played 8 minutes per game. He has 8 seasons of very good-great numbers and like I brought up before when people were talking about how Gary Payton is OBVIOUSLY a first ballot guy, Payton only had 9, arguably 10 productive season in the NBA. If it is enough to guarentee Payton a first ballot spot, I don't see how you can argue that the guy with 2 MVPS and just as many productive season shouldn't be there. Take away the trophys and he still should be in the Hall first ballot honestly. his numbers support it. he has gotten nearly half his career assist in the last 4 years. thats too impressive of a run to ignore.

2008 NBA Finals: Lakers vs. Celtics

My point is, Pierce is on the same path, stats-wise as those guys...hence the "if they can make it". He has the added prestige of being a champion and an MVP over Wilkins. That Rockets team was the exact same team as the 94 team that won with the addition of Drexler...who's to say they wouldn't have won it without him? fuckin Atlanta homer Pauls best season scoring was 2 points more than Dominiques career average. They aren't nearly on the same plane offensively, which is where both of them will be remembered. I will give you clyde in saying that they are near each other stat wise, but Paul ain't fucking with Pierce. fuckin...um...former Knick fan.

2008 NBA Finals: Lakers vs. Celtics

Hey now. Dominique Wilkins was one of the most destructive offensive forces in the history of the league. And saying Drexler couldn't get it done is over simplifying it. Not only was he the second most important player on his team when they won the championship in Houston, if it weren't for a amazing job of sucking Michael Jordans dick in the finals against the Bulls the Blazers would have won one there (or if the Blazers could have stopped Pippen and 4 bench players from making that comeback in game 6). Those just aren't good guys to list as "if they can make it" guys. they both should have been first ballot guys.

Because back then there was actual competition in college hoops. There was no one and gones, so you had great teams and great players back then. there were college teams that could beat some NBA teams back then. And despite what anyone thinks, this is not the case anymore.

2008 NBA Finals: Lakers vs. Celtics

Bill Walton is in the Hall of fame. If he is there, Pierce deserves to be there. This isn't the first time he has carried this team on his back. Back when it was literally him and Walka, the Cetics made a Eastern Conference finals and had the nets on the ropes. He has averaged over 25 points per game 5 times in his career. Which is good seeing as he is a scorer and all. The guy should have been a borderline HOF player before this series in most peoples eyes. I don't see how you can possibly say he isn't now. This isn't a guy that won a NBA Finals MVP like Chaucney Billiups but still shouldn't be near the Hall. Its Paul freakin Pierce. He has simply been one of the best players in the league for nearly 10 years now.
  25. Stiller was the only thing funny about that movie to me. You just have to look at him even when he isn't talking. Dude was just hilarious in that movie. Oh, and Steve the Pirate
