The Leafs are terrible. They played well earlier in the season while Raycroft was giving away games left and right, and now when he starts to play a bit better, they play like shit. Fuck em, all they're good for is subsidizing the poor, lame-duck teams that seem to win all the time.

Gran Turismo is the only Sony 1st party game I really need to have. Unfortunately it's pretty high on the list, so I'll have to get a PS3 some day. I'm all for the exclusives coming to the 360 though. I just wonder what will happen to all those smaller, PS2 exclusive RPGs that made the system so awesome.

I've had problems with Maxell and Memorex media with my old, fat PS2. It basically doesn't read them as fast as it should. That might be the PS2 though, since my PC doesn't have any problems with them. If it's a big deal to you, try Verbatim, they seem to work well.

Ok, I need to ask now. Who is that in your signature?
-
What kind of blanks are you using? The PS2 is generally a terrible DVD player and it tends to have problems with low quality media. The problems you describe sound like a problem with the laser rather than the PS2 simply not playing backed up movies. I would suggest not using the PS2 as a DVD player, I've heard many stories about PS2s dying out due to the strain it puts on the laser.

Pirated DVD movies should play without having to do anything.

Exclusivity has never made sense for big, 3rd party companies, unless they were getting fat contracts that would off-set the sales they would have made if the game was multi-platform. I'm surprised it's taken this long for it to start crumbling. It'd be nice if every game were multi-platform, but that won't be happening anytime soon. And unfortunately that means buying every system that has exclusive, must-play games.

They'll probably charge $100 for a 20 gig, console-exclusive hard drive like MS does, which is a very, very lucrative business venture.

Just about any RPG made before 1995 outside of FFVI. The generally shitty, archaic gameplay doesn't help either. -
Virtual Dub or Virtual Dub Mod (for mkv/ogm) are what you need.

It's based on history is what I meant.

I have a feeling that the winner was pre-ordained

DoctorV was talking about me because I wouldn't fix the vote for him in the previous round. The V stands for vindictive. Elite Snobs/Boardum/Pit bracket: Incandenza vs. Chave - Incandenza Black Lushus vs. AgentOfOblivion - AgentOfOblivion TSM Vets/Shit Folders bracket: bob_barron vs. CWM - bob_barron Czech vs. Special K - Special K Sports Folder bracket: alkeiper vs. Ripper - alkeiper Kingofthe909 vs. Vitamin X - Kingofthe909 The Awesomely Mediocre and/or Unknown bracket: DrVenkman vs. AndrewTS - DrVenkman CanadianChris vs. gary floyd - CanadianChris

No, I refuse to believe that. This was SERIOUS~! BUSINESS~! My game can beat up your game. Etc.

Me too. Antony as leader would be disastrous Octavian has the blood ties to Caesar too!

Because VF4 was the latest version of VF, while Tekken 5 was the latest version of Tekken. Tekken 5 showed a huge downswing in American sales, while Virtua Fighter 4 showed a huge upswing. Even Tekken 4, while outselling VF4, fell badly compared to Tekken 3. It appears that one is on the rise while the other is on the fall. No way of knowing for sure until VF5 has been out for a while, but there does appear to be a trend. I doubt there are many people who have human opponents available 24/7, which leaves the 1P mode as the only way to play the game. In any case, it's something that deserves to be factored into a review of the game.
-
I was just replying to what appeared to be a "Tekken is better because it sells more" post. Not that it has to do with the quality of games, but I'll find it amusing if VF keeps outselling Tekken and people are still clinging to that belief. 1P gameplay deserves recognition. It's useless if the core gameplay is junk, but it adds life to a genre that would otherwise be rather limited as a one player experience. VF4's AI is fairly good. There are unnatural ways to cheap it out and beat it, but it's not difficult to avoid that sort of strategy. I also have a real life opponent I can play, which provides me a different look, so I'm fairly happy with it.
-
I was also being sarcastic when I originally brought it up. It's an irrelevant argument in the best of times, made much worse by selective use. It can be relevant for both. "X number of people rated it highly, it must be good" or "X number of people bought it, it must be good". VF has the former, Tekken the latter. I say it's all bullshit.
-
Critical success is only relevant when it supports a game you like. Gotcha. Critical success = argumentum ad numerum = shitty argument.
-
Is it opposite day or what? Really, nice troll attempt though. Just remember, critical success~!~!
-
Makes sense. I don't really follow the "scene" so I've no idea what people are thinking. I'd imagine it's the smugness of the VF people vs. the argumentum ad numerum nonsense of the Tekken people. Hey, it's a microcosm of the gaming world as a whole.
-
Keep in mind I'm not really supporting that specific article, I'm more talking in general.
-
Ignoring any individual person's opinions, Tekken copying a lot of what Virtua Fighter did is an objective fact. Whether one cares or not is a matter of personal taste. A lot of the general comparisons regarding the gameplay of each game is fairly observable too. And again, whether one prefers one style over the other is a matter of personal taste.
