    Wii

The prices seem rather ridiculous, truth be told. The only ones even remotely worth it would be the N64 games, and those are still a bit of a stretch. There are some long-lasting SNES games, but $8 is just too much when perfectly emulated ROMs are out there. $5-6 for NES is just completely laughable. I'm going to get a couple N64 games, but only because there's really only 2 or 3 N64 games that I don't have and would be interested in playing, so I won't end up spending a ton of money on them. There are also rumours that PS3's virtual console is going to be cheaper. And, well, the PS1 library alone will smoke the shit out of anything Nintendo is offering.

    PlayStation 3

Why? Sony's hardware has superior potential, they're the reigning market leader and the XBox 360 is a complete and utter joke in Japan, which happens to be a prime market for RPGs and fighters. That makes no sense.

    Your Favorite Gaming Moments

The end to MGS3 was one of the more powerful cinematic pieces I can remember seeing in a video game. The Zanarkand scene of FFX is another one I really liked. Part of what makes both of those so great is the music, as both had memorable and dramatic music accompanying them. Pretty much all of FFVII during my first play through. The very end of Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Fantastic twist to end things. The very early days of playing Quake World: Team Fortress. It was something I hadn't experienced before and ended up being a large part of my life for many years. I've never played another FPS as much as I played TF.

There are little icons on each VC game page to show what controllers can be used for it, as well.

That's weird. I double-checked the number and it was correct, and your name was in black on my friend's list after you added me.

Say, does the Wii Classic controller work for Gamecube games? If so, would it work alongside a regular Gamecube controller?

    Wii

This is a stretch if I've ever seen one. The launch is such an irrelevant piece of information to go on when discussing which company will hold the market share for this generation. One only needs to look back on the Dreamcast to see that. 3rd party support is ultimately what will decide the fate of the Wii, and Nintendo's track record isn't exactly stellar. If anything, I'd be cynical of the Wii's long-term success. I look at the upcoming release list for the Wii, and see heaping piles of crap already. Ok, that's only 2-3 months worth of titles, but even the PS3, which has taken quite a bit of criticism for having a weak launch and post-launch game lineup, is light-years ahead of the Wii in that regard. And the upcoming releases for the PS3 isn't exactly stellar in the first place. I'm not making any predictions, but I'm saying Nintendo has the most to prove at this point.

I'm toying with the idea of going online with my Wii for the virtual console. I've no interest in paying for 3rd or 4th generation ROMs, but how much are the 5th gen (N64) ROMs and what's the selection like?

    Final Fantasy XII

45 hours for rushing through an RPG is pretty hefty actually, as I would say most could be completed in 25-30 hours playing that way. And for FFXII, I'd imagine anyone who got to the end at 45 hours didn't bother to explore the zones all that much, or if they did, they ran past a lot of monsters. A large chunk of time in my game was spent exploring every area and fighting the monsters there. I finished the game in 82 hours and I doubt more than 10-12 of that was spent on sidequests.

    PlayStation 3

Clearly no one actually wants the system to play it, they just want to sell it on ebay. The fact that there are people willing to buy it on ebay at inflated prices doesn't mean anything.

I'm going to be really sad and annoyed if a significant chunk of this game is in wolf mode. I can't believe how much I disliked the early wolf sections, and how great it was to finally be able to play a dungeon as human Link.

    Wii

Got the Wii today. Boy is the system ever small. EB Games doesn't have any component cables until the 28th, even though they said the 23rd last week, so I'm stuck with blurry fun time gaming until then Wii sports is pretty fun, even though it's very primitive. Boxing is the only one that doesn't seem so good, just because it's difficult to control well. Now I am about to start TP, hurrah.

So I traded in 3 games and got the last copy of TP at one of my local EB Games. Now it's just a matter of having a system to play it on..

    Puroresu comments

Why Chono is over is called charisma. He had it in spades. He just didn't have the right kind or charisma, or in-ring presence, to be as over as Muto and Hashimoto.

I can see the argument if the game was designed the same as the others. Meaning the dungeons and world don't look or play much different than the previous games. But if the game provides some different content, even if it follows the same formula, their argument is stupid. Every game genre has its formula, it's the content that fills in the formula that matters. I mean geez, you could make a case that 90% of the RPGs in existence are just all the same. If you ignore the differences in worlds, characters, and small changes to the plot and gameplay that is.

So I see that the cost for a "full" Wii controller will be $70 CDN ($25 for the nunchuk, $45 for the remote). Pretty steep price for a system that prides itself on being a group experience.

    PlayStation 3

It's actually more like 6 years until the better system comes out. But it still doesn't explain why people go batshit crazy over these launches. I think it's just because people are pretentious and want to be condescending about having the new video game console before everyone else. It's really, really pathetic and sad.

The content of the review is what counts. Some small site gave FFXII an 8/10, but the observations that were made were spot on. And I've seen other reviews that will give a game a high score despite not actually explaining why, or they mention things that aren't even really true. But anyway, if the Gamespot review of TP was low due to the controls, I'd imagine the Gamecube review will be better. We'll see.

But but, but then they can't be smug about having the brand new video game console on the first day it was released!!!!

I think I've only shut down my computer for the night once in the last 3 years. I do shut it down from time to time though, usually during thunderstorms.

I don't know, but just straight VGA is better than component and you don't have to worry about whether the cable will allow you to use 480p or 720p or anything, because there is no real limit.

There are also those universal cables that EB Games and other places carry. The latest ones I saw supported PS2/XBox/360, so maybe they'll eventually end up making ones that work with the Wii as well. They only cost $14.99 CDN, so they're a much better deal than the Nintendo/Sony specific cables.

Progressive scan in 640x480, aka 480p, yea. Pretty sure every HDTV set supports the standard resolutions below the HD ones. If you're familiar with PC games, just imagine the difference between a game running at 640x480 (480p) and 1280x720 (720p), and you'll realize that it's totally worth being able to play console games in 720p. You could even go one further and get a TV that supports 1080p, then you're looking at a resolution of 1920x1080, although that will cost quite a chunk of change

An HD set would support at least 720p. Then there are EDTVs that support 480p but nothing more.
