Nice to see the Phantasy Star games in there, but I can't help but feel disappointed that the PS2 remakes got cancelled.

Pretty much every newish LCD TV or computer monitor won't have problems with motion blurring anymore. 8ms is the standard refresh time, and even playing fast paced PC FPS games, I see very little or no motion blurring at all. If cost is an issue, I'd say the best bet would be an HD CRT. The only problems with those is how god damned heavy they are (I've seen 32" TVs weigh around 160 pounds). I say HD because if you're gonna get a PS3 and 360, you'll probably want the 720p support, as 480p (which is EDTV) isn't much of a big deal compared to 720p or 1080i. Obviously an LCD is the best bet (or plasma if cost wasn't an issue and you wanted a big TV), but you'd have to settle for a significantly smaller screen due to the higher prices for that technology. -

I've decided to buy a Wii early, and get that version of TP. Mostly because EB Games is running a deal where you can trade in 3 games, and get TP for free. I also want to trade in my gamecube before it goes down even further in value. Component cables are a must. I can barely stand composite video anymore, as it looks like absolute crap. It's just disappointing that the console developers don't include component cables as standard in their console bundles. I guess they like to charge $30-40 for cables that cost them about $2. -

But but, Angle said he was the top draw in the company -
The $600 model comes with one. The system uses a standard HDMI cable though, which can be had for about $4.

Good to hear about the PS3 HDs. Also, in that article about the warranty, I saw someone else ask whether their monster PS2 component cables will work with a PS3, and the answer was yes. Are the monster cables special, or will the official PS2 component cables work with PS3 also?

Typical big-budget RPGs tend to run around 100 hours for full completion these days. I don't care how many random battles there are (and if the battle/character systems are good, they aren't even a bad thing), a spread of 40 hours is pretty significant. Not that I really care, as I don't think length matters much once a game passes the 25-30 hour mark. -

"After running a critical path through the entire game, there's no doubt that this is the longest Zelda game ever made. I can easily see the playtime rising to the 60-hour mark if you try to accomplish everything that the game has to offer -- and trust me, you'll want to." That doesn't really seem like a huge game if that's true. Not saying it's a flaw or anything, but 60 hours for 100% isn't anything out of the ordinary, and is probably on the low-side of most RPGs. Of course, 60 hours is really good for an action/adventure game -
Yea true. Even the desertion that happened mid-way through the Dreamcast's life probably had something to do with that. Sega just had very little loyalty among the 3rd party developers.
-
Oh, now you've gone and done it. Sensational hyperbole > * I think it was the utter desertion from 3rd parties that ended up killing the Dreamcast. No one wanted to make games for it once the PS2 came out. The GD-ROM hardware also ensured that the system was going to be obsolete by about 2001. The lack of copy protection didn't help either.
-
Not like it even matters. Saying "The PS3 is a failure, no one actually wants it to play it, they just want it to sell it!!" just doesn't make any sense (not saying anyone here is saying that, just using it as an example). If there's a large market for PS3s at an inflated price, obviously a lot of people actually do want the system to play it.

Indy comments which don't warrant a thread

It's because people have their own ideas about what things in pro-wrestling entertain them. Don't look at criteria like it's some scientific concept, look at it like it's a person's personal preference. To some, pro-wrestling matches need a clear face/heel structure and a story revolving around that concept. Others think a lot of big spots need to be performed. There are many examples. The point is, you can't make someone view a match the way you think it should be viewed. You can say "it was meant to be a crazy spotfest, so don't bother looking for the little things", but that won't matter to the person who enjoys the little things. I understand what you're saying, I just think there's a difference between giving credit to a match for "doing what it was meant to do" and personally enjoying the match. -

Let's phrase this a different way then. Matches that go 100 miles per hour where all the spots are basically meaningless because they aren't appearing to be doing any damage to the wrestlers, do not entertain me very much. And really, I didn't have to look for any selling flaws in the match. It's hard to miss when a guy takes a "death finisher" and is up 20 seconds later like nothing happened. If you don't think the selling matters, whatever. With art/entertainment, people have different ideas about what they enjoy and what they don't. I don't really care whether the match was meant to be this or that. There were things I saw in the match that I didn't care for, and I mentioned them. The match went over well, that's great. But it's like the Hogan-Andre thing. Someone can realize a match succeeded in doing what it set out to do, and still not personally like it. And unfortunately, I don't watch wrestling to see how much other people liked a match, I watch it to see how much I liked it. -

Mayumi Ozaki being part of that makes me weep. I finally saw the Blood Gen vs. Do Fixer match from Supercard of Honor yesterday. Can't say I was a big fan of the match. The pace was impressive, and the early FIP portions were very well done, but the selling later in the match was almost non-existent. It made my "list", but barely, and wouldn't be surprised if I soured it on more as time goes by. -

About 50 wrestlers, currently, are better. Angle is batshit crazy. He doesn't come off like a dick at least, and seems to have a good heart, he's just incredibly pretentious. -
I gave each magic user their own schools of magic. Penelo was black/time/arcane, Ashelia was white and green, Fran had a bit of everything. Eventually all of my characters ended up with every spell from every school of magic, as it was too easy to fill out the license board as the game went on. For quickenings, you have to shuffle them (press R2 or R1 or something, it says on the screen) if they don't give you a chain option (you don't see the triangle button). It seems kind of random, but when you shuffle you will sometimes get the triangle button prompt, and will be able to chain the quickenings together.

That's just silly. Especially the implication that games that are one generation apart can't be compared. The Wii is a slightly improved Gamecube, and that's why it's so cheap. It's no secret, so I don't get the point of the original article. Maybe to educate fanboys who don't realize that, I don't know.
-
With how batshit crazy people are going, imagine if PS3 actually had a decent launch lineup. It would be the end of civilised society as we know it. There would be rioting in the streets and people would be instantaneously combusting. I think I've pegged March as when I buy the PS3. That's when Virtua Fighter 5 comes out, and that's enough for me to want the system. I'd imagine there might be a couple other good games out by then too.

Indeed, just don't listen
-
SG, this is why we don't listen to a certain someone on a certain internet chat protocol.
-
The game remembers everything you've sold, so you don't have to sell it all at once.
-
Quickenings eventually become useless when they don't do significant damage to bosses, and leave you with no MP for the rest of the fight.
