    Vanhalen sucks

Telling people to stop discussing the biggest news story in American pro-wrestling history a mere two weeks after it happened was bordering on gimmick stupidity.

This I haven't noticed, but then again, I don't read every single review, only the few games I'm interested in. I enjoy how in-depth they go, sometimes up to four pages. If their video reviews were free, I'd watch 'em. I can't imagine paying for that shit, though; I'll just read the text review and be done with it. The real problem is that they give high ratings to games he doesn't like. Evidently that makes them wrong, even if there are solid arguments presented. "They gave GTA/FF/any RPG made after 1995/anything I haven't played but doesn't look good a 9? LOL they were bought off". None of those issues are really a big problem at IGN. Even the good sites have crummy reviews up every now and then; some just make a habit of it (like GameSpot). And some sites differ greatly based on which section you're reading. The big sites seem to have totally different people working for each system section, which is the reason for some inconsistency in quality.

    The Golf Thread

Bulking up wouldn't work that well. The power in the golf swing is based on the how the muscles compress and expand. Bulking up with steroids would seriously hamper that process. Someone might be able to add a few yards due to sheer strength, but nothing significant. Adding height would be a way to drastically improve distance, but I don't even think HGH will do that.

The Xbox sections of all the sites I've read seem to be the same, ie. they're incredibly biased. It's like they have an inferiority complex so they feel the need to overrate games and generally act delusional about the Xbox' place in the industry. At least the next Xbox ended up being a worthwhile system, which makes the bias a lot more tolerable.

    The Golf Thread

It wouldn't surprise me if a few guys were on something, but I don't know if it's a big deal. There's just too many other important factors in golf that steroids would not help you with. None of those chunky guys who hit the ball a long way seem to ever win much anyway.

    This Week in Baseball 7/23 - 7/29

Johnson missed significant time. Rios has been good. Wells, Thomas and Overbay have been grossly underachieving. Glaus has been good. That's pretty much it right there, combined with Halladay being terrible for a while, Burnett being on the DL 25 times, and the injury to Ryan of course. The fact that they're at or near .500 has a lot to do wit their bullpen being really good this year, along with unexpected starting pitching. Downs, Janssen are all having solid to great seasons. Wolfe has been excellent in limited appearances. Accardo had faltered for a bit, but was doing a nice job before, and seems to have righted his ship again. Then Marcum was pitching really well earlier in the year, and McGowan and Towers are pitching really well lately. If their key guys were performing as they should have been, Toronto would be challenging Boston right now. But all you can hope for at this point is for their young pitchers to continue playing at this level and for their star players to get back on track next year, and they should have a real shot at getting to the playoffs.

    What is with online players...

The "I'm just trolling people, I'm not really being an asshole" reasoning is classic. As someone who's been playing online FPS games since 1996, this is par for the course. Young kids are just morons in general, and when you add competition + anonymity, it's a recipe for disaster. Fag is a tested and true online insult. Nigger/Jew/other racial stuff is just due to retards trying to be even more controversial and annoying. Best thing to do is just mute the voice chat.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/24/metal-ge...ctably-awesome/ - MGS4 playable demo. This looks awesome. It seems like they've increased the amount of action in the game, and made the stealth gameplay a whole lot deeper. I wasn't overly excited about the game (well, as much as I should have been) until I saw this demo. But it looks like this should not only be the dramatic conclusion of the narrative (supposedly), but it could end up being the best game in the series.

I use gamerankings.com for aggregate review scores, as it's typically more reliable than individual reviews. I typically only read IGN's reviews though, or any site that goes against the grain with a game review. I go to Joystig and Kotaku for news, and amazingly, I go to Gamevideos.com for game videos.

Shining Force is a strategy RPG, DrVenkman, and it's kind of rough around the edges. Shining Force II is the classic.

Shit, how could I forget? Let's just say I made a typo, and that I was really trying to say there was no argument that ARod is better than Jeter. Jeter clutches ARod's numbers and eats them for breakfast.

At this point, I don't even think there's any argument at all that Jeter is a better player than Rodriguez. ARod's career OPS is .112 higher than Jeter, and Jeter doesn't exactly make up for it with the glove, or with base-stealing.

To be fair, the putt Sergio hit on the last regulation hole should have gone in. It only missed because it took a hop right at the start, but he hit the right putt. It wasn't a choke job or anything, he was just bound to have an over-par round.

How dare you quote the post of the person you're replying to. DrVenkman, you are a sketch. Did you ever play the Disgaea games on PS2? Or are strategy RPGs not your bag? They have plenty anime-esque humour and sexy girls cute characters. And now they're making one for the PS3, and if SF2 HD Remix is any indication of how good sprites can be on these current-gen systems, the game should end up looking amazing. You should check out the first two, if for no other reason than it will give you some coveted internet coolness points, which are roughly equivalent to 1/1000th of a Scrute buck. Do you recall anything about SOTN's RPG elements? I remember hearing about it and seeing screenshots of a character status screen, but I never really knew how the stats affected your character or whether there were all sorts of different equipment.

This is the only thing I'd like to say on this, but to be fair, it's always been video game related outside of this instance. But then, AndrewTS decided he didn't want people being too SERIOUS~! by criticising his games (while he will gladly bash other games), put me on ignore (or so he claims), and runs a gimmick where he is "ignoring" my posts by hilariously posting the same thing I've posted or by ambiguously replying to my post. It's kind of childish and makes him an easy mark. Anyway, Castlevania SOTN came out in the PS Store, and I will probably get it as I haven't played it before. I also tried that Dynasty Warriors Gundam demo, and while the layout of the missions is neat, the combat is just button mashing to the extreme. No combo system was apparent, the ranged attack is useless, and then you get a special attack after killing X number of enemies. It's kind of neat seeing all of the Gundam universe characters together though. I'm also very tempted to buy Resistance after trying the demo, because it seemed like a lot of fun. Or rather, the first mission was fun, as it was reminiscent of Call of Duty where you're in the middle of a battlefield. The second mission seemed like typical solo superman FPS gameplay, which I'm not as big a fan of, and certainly wouldn't want to have to play that kind of game with a gamepad. So are the Resistance levels generally more like the "battlefield" style, or the "solo mission" style?

I was thinking the same thing about RE5 and how I'll have to go back to using an inferior controller to play it because it won't be coming to the Wii. Shooting games are just much, much better with the wiimote, compared to a standard gamepad. The problem is that the platform won't get the big time shooters because the hardware is so underpowered. Although I should say that if PS3 developers get around to adding mouse/keyboard support to their games, it will become the more attractive destination for shooting games. But it's hard to know whether they'll actually do it or not.

    NHL Offseason - 2007

Raycroft's SV% was basically sub-.900 all year. His season went like this - average to start, followed by horrible, followed by decent, followed by horrible. He had a stretch of 3-4 weeks where he wasn't consistently blowing games and another stretch where he actually stole a couple. The rest of the year was awful. SV% + GAA doesn't lie. He actually had a slightly sub-3.00 GAA despite having an .894 SV%, that means he wasn't facing tons of shots. He didn't need to be stealing games like Joseph and Belfour, league average for a starter is all I ask for.

I guess since RE4 is two years old, they won't sell it at full price. But random mini-game collection? You bet your ass. Oh video game developers.

EXCELLENT point. I get real sick and tired of hearing "Rey is too small to be a top guy" or "Joe is fat". You've been brainwashed to believe exactly what Vince wants you to about Bigger Iz Better, idiots. Only dolts who believe WWE doesn't deserve any blame in this situation think stuff like that Notice how he said "we".

ROH runs three to four times a month, so I don't think singling them out makes much sense. I'd have to really see the schedules of some of these guys to make a judgment, but I also know that a lot of these indy guys (the established ones at least) aren't going full-out in every match they wrestle. They also typically aren't hugely roided up (Not say they don't use, but they clearly aren't using to the degree of some of these WWE guys), which is better for their short-term health, which then leads to less of a necessity for painkillers. And while it may sound stupid, the ring type has a lot to do with it too, as the WWE uses a much harder ring than the indies do. Japan has traditionally had the toughest style of pro-wrestling (they also do not use springy rings like American indies), yet the wrestlers there aren't dying left and right, nor do they seem to suffer the same amount of serious injuries as wrestlers in the US do. That tells me that style by itself isn't a problem. It might be a problem when added in on top of the schedule and drug issues, but I'd say it's clear that the latter is a more serious problem at this point.

What part of "widespread" don't you understand? The Road Warriors had a lot going for them outside of a physique too, in case you've never seen them wrestle.
