    WWE 24/7

Superstars generally had all the big story arcs leading up to the PPV's, at least for the mid-card and would be the place where all the minor storylines would progress on the off months when there was no PPV to build. It was also where the Pipers Pit / Flower Shop / Brother Love Show / Whatever would take place which would also continue feuds along. The biggest big storylines involving Hogan, Warrior, Savage, and the rest of the main event crew was mostly on Saturday Nights Main Event, they rarely appeared on the weekly shows. Prime Time Wrestling generally shilled for PPVs and SNME, and aired squash matches taped from recent A-Level House Shows.

Royal Rumble Anthology DVD Box Set

I finally broke down and bought this yesterday, finally replacing my dubs of the original Coliseum Video versions, and my hundredth generation copy of the '88 show. I've watched the first 2 discs so far The 1988 show is only 2 hours long, but it's so dull and anemic that it seems to drag on for much longer then that. The 2 non-wrestling segments, the Hogan / Andre Contract signing, and the Dino Bravo weightlifting segment seem to go on forever, and just aren't the least bit interesting. The Rumble itself is terrible, the guys can't really even figure out the logistics on how to work such a match and make it seem entertaining. The only thing even clsoe to a good match on the card is the Womens Tag Match The 1989 show is much better, and is a lot different then the VHS release. On the Coliseum Video version, the tape cuts directly from the end of the womens title match, to the Royal Rumble. On this DVD, which is taken from the original PPV source, there's about 40 minutes in between which includes some promos, and the entire Haku vs Race match, which were all excised from the VHS. Haku vs Race is actually a pretty good match too, they would have been much better off keeping this one and chopping the womens title match. The added promos were likely cut because not only are they all really bad, including a particularly awful Brutus Beefcake promo, but they're all done in front of a blue screen and look awful. I'm on 1990 now. Another weird note after watching the 1990 show. This one is essentially the same as the VHS Version, but for some reason, the VHS version uses different camera angles then the PPV Version. I know this because I remember on my copy of the VHS Version, Bret Hart's elimination can only barely be seen as the camera is focusing on Demolition beating up Andre the Giant. On the PPV version, that same part of the match is shown from the hard camera angle which focuses on the entire ring, and you get a much clearer shot of Bret getting tossed out by Dusty. Pretty strange.....
  3. I don't think they edited that though. I think that for 1991 at least, the Vince Mcmahon opening was added to the Home Video release and just wasn't on the original PPV airing. The McMahon opening is there for 1990. Didn't check 1992 though.

    WWE 24/7

Quick comment about the episode of Prime Time Wrestling put up on Wednesday. Main event was Muraco and Orton vs King Kong Bundy and Paul Orndorf, both heel teams. This seemed odd to me, and I thought Face vs Face or Heel vs Heel matches almost never happened until recent times.

    WWE 24/7

I finished WM3 tonight, I hadn't seen the show in years, and it actually holds up much better then I remember. The pop up interviews and info is a decent idea, but I'd rather see them try and set up some match specific shoot commentary during the show with either the wrestlers or other participants, or even Vince himself.

    WWE 24/7

New Today: Wrestlemania 3 Pop Up Video Version Prime Time Wrestling 3/23/87 Legends Roundtable: Hulk Hogan WWE At Boston Gardens: 3/7/87 Not too much this week. I've watched about half of the Pop Up WM3, and it's pretty pointless. It just splices in some old video interviews cut from previous sets and throws in some of the same trivia you probably already know. The other 2 shows are just buildup to WM.

    WrestleMania XI..

Is Hartford the smallest venue they've ever held a Wrestlemania at capacity wise? I remember bugging my dad to get tickets to this when I was a kid, but I couldn't convince him. We kinda get the shaft for PPVs here in Connecticut now, WWE comes around fairly frequently, but the Civic Center is somewhat old and dilapidated, and the arenas in Bridgeport and Mohegan Sun, where WWE usually tapes TV here, aren't large enough for a PPV.

You can't say that on TV!

  15. I just got back a little while ago from the Smackdown House Show in Springfield, MA. It was an entertaining show, but Finlay vs Undertaker was the only think even close to a decent match as far as workrate goes. Biggest shock was seeing Henry Godwinn, who actually didn't look too bad physically. He can't wrestle worth a damn, but then that's nothing new. Sandman appeared to be injured legit during the eight man ECW tag match, they carried him out and continued the match 3 on 4. Batista must have sold his soul to the devil or something, because inexplicably, he remains way over with the crowd, despite the fact that he is just absolutely worthless as a worker. I'll post some pictures later on.

    WWE 24/7

Thought I'd finally chime in. My cable company finally started offering 24/7 literally 2 days ago, and I've really enjoyed it so far. The biggest thing I've noticed is watching the Monday Night Wars. Back in the day, I was a solid WWF fan, I was aware of WCW, but I didn't pay much attention to them, and didn't really care. Watching it now though, right at the peak of the nWo in '96, it's like night and day. Nitro is bright, exciting, fresh, featuring solid wrestling and interesting storylines. RAW is bland, anemic, slow, and boring, featuring the same selection of worthless talent fighting the same squash matches. It's really no surprise at all that WCW was beating the piss out of them at this point, because they are leaps and bounds the better show. Now my question is, do you think Vince watches this stuff now and realizes in hindsight how crappy his product was at that point in comparison? I'm sure he probably doesn't even have time to watch this stuff anyways, but still it's an interesting thought. Oh yeah, and Psychosis vs Regal rocked!
  17. In case anyone has been wondering, Mick Foley's new book so far is somewhat disappointing. I'm only about halfway through, so it still has plenty of time to improve, but so far the bulk of this book has just been a narrative of his career in WWE starting from November 2001 when he was released from his contract. It's just not that interesting to read, as I already saw most of this stuff on TV, and read about most of the backstage stuff in the Observer. There a few interesting bits of backstage politics mixed in, and a lot of names dropped that only the smartest of fans would recognize, but beyond that, I'm kinda bored. I'll write back once I finish it.

WWE Goin' All O'er the World!!

How would this even work exactly? Obviously Mexico and Japan have long established wrestling promotions, but who has ever heard of pro wrestling from South America? Pro Wrestling from Asia (Not Japan)? I know Australia and Europe have some pro wrestling, at least historically, but in modern times, you hear very little regarding a pro wrestling scene in these areas, they just watch the same RAW and Smackdown we watch every week, just a few days or weeks later. Where the heck are they going to get people to wrestle in these promotions?

    Ghost Rider

I watched this tonight, it was ok, but I was kind of bored. It stayed true to the comic for the most part, but the writing sucked ass, and the acting wasn't much better. As far as the Marvel B Team goes, this was better then Fantastic FOur and Hulk but behind Punisher and Daredevil. I give it a C.

I just hope Volume 1 contains the PPV Versions of 89, 90, and 91, and not the edited home video versions. Sure, We're not missing much by not seeing Haku vs Harley Race and The Mountie vs Tito, but it would still be nice to have the shows complese

I know there's a fancam out there of the 1994 MSG House Show with the Rumble won by Owen, although I've never actually seen it.
  24. Both these films have been getting some harsh reviews, but amongst a sea of absolute bottom of the barrel crap so far this year (Stomp the Yard, The Hitcher, Epic Movie, anyone?) these movies might as well be Oscar worthy. Between last night and tonight, we watched both of these at work, and while they certainly aren't great movies by any stretch, they were both entertaining enough to be worth your money this weekend. Norbit is about what you'd expect. Eddie Murphy plays multiple characters using his usual schtick that he made famous in the Nutty Professor films. The movie itself is fairly amusing, and the jokes work for the most part. The characters are a little thin and one dimensional, and the film seems to suffer from a poor script with no real plot established until the third act, and it starts to get a little long by the end, but you don't go to a movie like this expecting a deep, multi-faceted story, you just want to laugh yourself stupid and at that, I felt this film succeeded. I give it a 7/10 Hannibal Rising is the first part of the story of Hannibal Lecter, detailing his beginnings during and after World War 2. This film definitely strays quite a bit from the Hannibal Lecter you see in Silence of the Lambs, as he is turned more into a sympathetic hero then anything. The film itself plays out more like a grotesque action flick then a psychological thriller, but what it does, it does well. It is an extremely gory and violent film, and definitely not one for the squeamish. Gaspard Ulliel does great as young Hannibal Lecter, he has a really creepy Crispin Glover vibe to him, and pulls off the role very well. The story here serves it's purpose, but gets somewhat boring by the end. If you dig the slasher genre though, you'll definitely be compelled by the film. I give it an 8/10

    Anna Nicole Smith Is Dead

Sorry folks, outside of the fact that now her daughter has to grow up without ever getting to know her legitimate mother, this is anything but a tragic story. Smith was a drug using, manipulative swindler. She admitted to being on meth while she was pregnant. She married an 80 year old guy, swindled the family out of the inheritance, and did absolutely nothing to support her family back in their trailer in bumfuck wherever. No one deserves death, but this is no tragedy.
