    Yay or Nay...

nay, it's tries to hard to be realistic so people can relate to it, but at the end of the day, things don't quite work out the way they do in this movie. In High School, everyone is in their own clique or social group and that's that.
  2. Since when does the WWE care about what the crowd does? Since they started purposely moving that last ECW PPV to a location where ECW had little to zero exposure in it's heyday, in order to avoid a hostile crowd. It's not so much that WWE gives a shit about their crowd, it's that they don't want people booing Batista as it makes everyone involved look bad.
  3. This is the same Vince McMahon who had Paul Birchill retooled and sent back to OVW because he didn't understand his gimmick because he hadn't seen or heard of Pirates of the Caribbean, or Johnny Depp. I get the impression that Vince McMahon is completely oblivious to 95% of everything around him, and only becomes aware of the other 5% when Bruce Pritchard or Kevin Dunn makes him aware of it.
  4. I don't feel like typing up a detailed WON News post, but here's some highlights from this weeks issue Tentative WM Main Events at the time of printing - Batista vs Undertaker, Cena vs Michaels, Hogan vs Shane and / or Khali. Edge and Orton are being likely going to regain the tag belts and are being considered for some sort of title defense on the show. While it was originally booked for Batista to end the Undertakers streak, they are becoming increasingly more apprehensive towards the idea, since Batista, while still over with the crowds, would likely get shit on if he ends the streak of the Undertaker, a man whom the crowd respects far more then Batista. The reason Test was jobbed out 3 times in a row to Lashley was because Vince just really doesn't give a shit about ECW anymore, and is just using it to get Lashley over as strong as possible for his eventual return to either RAW or Smackdown. Vince & co. were reportedly concerned about WSX, not so much because of the competition, but because they were going head to head with ECW. That is why they tried to do the big push with McMahon appearing on ECW, in an attempt to pop a rating and squash WSX before they even get off the ground. The reason RVD has been getting jobbed out is most likely because he has given his notice and isn't going to resign. He had to give notice one way or another by the end of this week, or else his contract would just automatically roll over. Despite this, RVD's contract doesn't actually expire until sometime over the summer. There is increasing concern internally about the fact that many sports bars now aren't carrying WWE shows, and are instead opting to order UFC shows, which draw larger crowds, whom spend more money, then the people who come to see wrestling.
  5. I find it hilarious on so many levels that people have been saying Flair is over the hill and should move out of the way for younger guys to get over on top, since about 1985, and here we are in 2007, and the man is STILL on RAW every week, albeit in a much smaller capacity, but still.

    OAO ECW Tuesday January 30th

RVD is 36 now, and is long past his peak, any benefit he would be to competition would be in name value only, as he's not even half the worker he used to be. Vince is just going to throw a bunch of money his way in an effort to resign him, and RVD will in all likelyhood accept it.
  9. So, how long until Umaga starts jobbing to Eugene and The Highlanders like it means nothing?

    OAO 2007 Royal Rumble Thread.

I thought the Rumble match itself was dissapointing. There were just way too many guys in the ring at once, and not enough action to justify it. Just the same punch / kick stuff you see in most battle royals. The last 10 minutes was really hot though.

WON News + Notes, 29th January Issue

The problem with WWE and Vince Mcmahon that hurts Meltzer's credibility sometimes, is that there is very rarely ever any rhyme or reason for the decisions made. Booking plans change on a moment to moment basis. Fuck, Vince could wake up tomorrow and decide he wants Finlay to win the Royal Rumble for all we know.

    Greatest Royal Rumble Matches

1990 and 1992 were always favorites of mine. 1995, 1989, 1993, and 1999 are the worst. 1989 sucks because no one really has the groove of the match worked out yet, and for the most part, the faces only fight the heels and vice versa. 1993 and 1999 just have way too many jobbers, and the just destroyed any credibility Savage may have had left by having him get thrown out by a kickout. 1995 is just terrible, it's way too short, has too many nonsense filler guys, and just flat out isn't interesting to watch.
  14. To switch topics a little bit, I guess I never really paid that much attention before, but a friend and I were discussing this the other day, do you ever notice how WWE films womens matches much differently then they do other matches. If you ever notice, they always shoot low and from far away. They almost never show close shots up front, and they swap cameras whenever the women start coming close. Also, they use a lot of frequent camera angle changes, and they never seem to show use the hard camera to film from up high. I think the reasons for the are obvious (Wardrobe Malfunctions on live TV?), but it's an interesting thought, and something to look for next time you watch RAW.

WON News + Notes, January 22nd Issue

The one thing that's missing from the CM Punk story is not so much that he had heat on him for making out with Maria constantly, but for the fact that he was doing it publically, when the image they want to portray is that the WWE Women are single / available.

The Annual WWE Mass Firings Thread

Speaking of Heidenreich, I had read in a recent Observer that he dropped the belt he had in one of the feds in Puerto Rico, sicne he was leaving the territory. I assumed this was Meltzer-Speak for him possibly or probably showing up in WWE again. I certainly wouldn't doubt it, he had no talent at all, but he was big and had somewhat of a unique look.

    Why is my car overheating?

I just recently had this same problem with my car, and was diagnosed with a blown head gasket. For lord only knows what reason, my father agreed to this 1400 dollar repair job on a '96 Saturn with 150,000 miles on it that I only paid 1800 for in the first place back in July.

    Bam Bam Bigelow passes away

Bam Bam was definitely a good worker in the ring, few men his size could pull off the stuff he used to do. I always thought he was one of the most criminally underused talents in WWE history. He started off fairly strong, including a very good showing at King of the Ring 1993, but it was all downhill from there. A never ending feud with Doink the Clown, getting paired with Ted Debiase in the biggest heat vacuum of a stable of all time, and a very poorly booked face run where he played second fiddle to Kevin Nash of all people really did him in. His matches in ECW were fantastic though, and I'll never forget his one match with Sandman in WCW on that one Pay Per View. Definitely one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time, and easily, the second best worker over 350 lbs of all time, only bested, in my opinion, by Vader.

    Bam Bam Bigelow passes away

I'm going to be interested to read Meltzer's obit on him. I had always heard that Vince all but promised him a title run or at least a main event match for the belt in exchange for doing the job to LT. I think that he just became a massive target for the Kliq's political BS at the time though, and his "main event" ended up being that horrible tag match at KOTR 95, before getting jobbed out and fading away in '95. I think the same thing happened to the guy too in '88 when he went out with an Injury, and Hogan, always worried about his spot, bad mouthed him to Vince and got him fired.
  21. Wasn't this essentially what happened 2 years ago with Cena and Batista accidentally going over the top and screwing up the planned finish of the match?

The Paul Heyman Smackdown shoot on McMahon

The thing is though, while it may have been true at one point with guys like Edge, Jericho, Booker T, and others being held back, it largely isn't true any more. The problem isn't that people are being held under the glass ceiling in the main event, the problem is that they seem to be completely unable to build up any credible main eventers. Does anyone in all honesty think Batista vs Kennedy at the Rumble is going to be anything more then a slightly more competitive squash? Who else is there? Undertaker? Kane? Booker T? The same rotating stock of Main Event guys we've seen for 5+ years now. RAW isn't much better, although they at least have Randy Orton, who is a fresh face who has been, for the most part, absent from the world title scene since returning from suspension. The same goes though for the RAW title match though, does anyone think that Umaga has any hope in hell of becoming world champion?

The Paul Heyman Smackdown shoot on McMahon

The thing is though, Vince's idea's aren't even antiquated or Draconian, because that would imply that ideas like Trump vs Rosie ever would have flown in another era in the first place. Vince's ideas at this point are just completely ludicrous, and go well beyond the realm of silly campy bad that you often see in wrestling, even today with characters like Boogeyman, or Finlay's midget. Clearly Vince doesn't even give a shit anymore about fan reaction, or buyrates, or even the financial well being of his company. He's just a bored old man incapable of realizing that he's finally reaching the last stage of life, and is just using his nationally television wrestling program as a platform to entertain himself, and himself alone. The only thing that's going to make Vince stop and look at what he's doing is if the shareholders start holding him accountable. WWE is a publicly traded company, so Vince certainly has people to answer to. So that begs the question, who is it exactly that owns WWE stock? Clearly the McMahon family owns the majority, if not all, of the controlling interest, but what about the rest of the people that own the stock? Are they people that are savvy to the business? If so, why don't they ever try and call McMahon out on his bullshit? I know that people were trying to do that during the quarterly conference calls at one point, and they started either heavily screening calls to prevent any questions not directly related to finances, or they may have possibly stopped taking calls altogether. Ultimately though, I suspect that this won't happen. I think the majority of the people that own WWE stock, who aren't named Mcmahon, are just speculative investors that have little, if any, inside knowledge of the business, and just own the stock on the off chance that we go back in time to 1998 again.
  24. 5 more spots are open, so I assume Khali, Boogeyman, Monty Brown, possibly Umaga if they shoot an angle after he loses, and one other, will round out the 30.
