    Anyone up for Fantasy Football?

From what I hear, Wheatley will get the start. However Justin Fargas, if given the chance, may emerge as the featured back around mid-late season.

    Athletes you were wrong on

I agree with this. Now Vince is known as Tracy's cousin first instead of the other way around.

You hit the nail on the head. Guys like Dunleavy Jr and Jason Richardson are great for community service announcements and PR stuff... their just not good for winning a lot of NBA basketball games.

They also have Speedy Claxton, who actually puts up comparable or maybe even a little better numbers than Fisher. I think Van Exel is more of a 2 guard because he shoots too much. He's a gunner. I don't think Fisher is that good of a creator and distributor, but then again, the triangle doesn't require a create off the dribble setup point guard. GS has been overpaying very mediocre players lately (Adonal Foyle and Brian Cardinal, anyone) which makes me believe they will be a terrible team for YEARS to come.

    Popick is a fucking tool.

I should be fine. I'm moving to the Bay Area so there'll be more to do. I guess since Popick/Joseph hasn't responded, this thread has sucked. I wanted to see sparks fly and felt Tyler and Popick could actually have a decent flame war. That isn't the case, so I voice myself to say this thread is ghey.

Eh, I'm moving in the next month and I have to start all over getting a new job, knowing the area, etc, etc.. I'll be the first to admit I'm cranky.

I'll say the same thing about this thread that I said about the "I challenge CWM to a fight" thread... Gay. This is all very gay.

Arnold: Democrat lawmakers are "girlie men"

Actually California deserves to crack off into the ocean with all the stupidity that surrounds this wretched state. Then again, what do I know, I voted for Larry Flynt during the recall election.

Arnold: Democrat lawmakers are "girlie men"

This is not news. This is much ado about nothing. People nowadays are too fucking sensitive. Sometimes I hate the state I live in. People should be calling Arnold on how he's flip flopped on issues rather than him calling people names. If his calling some people "girlie men" is the best his opponents are going to come up with to fight him, I now start to see how this man got into office. God, California sucks.

I find the people who argue about Bush sitting for 7 minutes reading to kids bit hilarious. It's subjective as to how he should've reacted. This is something both sides need to let go. You could go back and put a variety of politicians in the same situation and they all would probrably react differently and in the eyes of their opponents, it would be wrong. Folks, Let the "Bush did nothing for 7 minutes" argument the fuck go. Anyone still arguing this particular point is a retard.

Kings should still be fine. We just need a servicable backup center to steady the course. That and a backup SF wouldn't hurt my feelings either

I'm not all that impressed with Kidd lately. IMO, he's dropped out of the top 5 player category everyone had associated with him the last 3 seasons. My problem is Kidd seems to be almost strictly a fastbreak point guard to be effective. Even though the Nets made it to the Finals 2 years in a row before this season, they still couldn't execute in the halfcourt very well. Some of that is Kidd's teammates, but some of it is him too. Before he was with the Nets, he was mediocre with the Suns. I am not saying he's garbage, but I think he's definitely fallen off some in the last year alone.

    Anyone up for Fantasy Football?

Here are Gibbs Disciples.. Starting lineup (as of right now) QB Michael Vick RB Stephen Davis RB Charlie Garner WR Donte Stallworth WR Peter Warrick TE Kellen Winslow Jr WR/TE Marcus Robinson K John Hall Defense Denver Bench TE Ben Troupe QB Mark Brunell RB DeShaun Foster RB Marcel Shipp I am OK with what I have here now. I obviously have some questions about my team that may not get answered until these guys actually play, but I've looked at every team in our league and every team has a concern or two somewhere on their roster. Mine are... -Can and will Michael Vick stay healthy to duplicate or improve his '02-03 season numbers? -how long can both of my starting running backs last because Davis turns 30 and Garner is already 32? (part of why I got DeShaun Foster) -will my WR's try to reach their potential? -will Kellen Winslow join the few elite TE's or will he just be a bunch of hype? The best I can do now is pray none of my guys gets seriously injured between now and the start of the season.

I wasn't aware of that. There was too much other crazy things going on in Lalaland, so it was just a non issue. True. Horace Grant is a non issue. The Lakers will look to run more and they will make more highlight reels, but success depends on defense and all 3 people that came to LA from the Heat are no great shakes defensively. That is where the concern should lie.

    Bobby Fischer caught!

Chess Legend Bobby Fischer caught and arrested. http://msn.foxsports.com/story/2580826 After decades of evading the public eye and U.S. justice officials, former world champion Bobby Fischer -- possibly the best and certainly the most eccentric chess player ever -- has been taken into custody by Japanese immigration after allegedly trying to leave the country with an invalid passport. Former world chess champion Bobby Fischer is pictured in this Aug. 10, 1971 file photo at an unknown location in the United States. Fischer has been detained in Japan by immigration authorities, capping a more than decade-long hunt by U.S. authorities for the elusive chess legend. ( / AP) Fischer, 61, was detained at Narita Airport outside Tokyo while trying to board a Japan Airlines flight for the Philippines on Tuesday, according to friends and airport officials. The U.S. Embassy confirmed Fischer was detained. It was not immediately clear if Fischer would be extradited to the United States, where he is wanted for playing a 1992 chess match in the former Yugoslavia in violation of international sanctions. Japan and the United States have an extradition treaty. But Fischer's detention -- and a possible handover to U.S. authorities -- gives Japan a chance to show it is cooperating with the United States just days before Japanese officials plan to bring an accused U.S. Army deserter, Charles Robert Jenkins, to Tokyo for urgent medical treatment. Jenkins, whose Japanese wife was kidnapped by North Korea in 1978 and returned home in 2002, is wanted by Washington on desertion charges for allegedly defecting to North Korea in 1965. Jenkins is suffering from problems following abdominal surgery in North Korea. Miyoko Watai, a longtime friend of Fischer's, told the Associated Press she had talked to him in custody. She said he was told he would be deported, but was planning to appeal. "He didn't know that his passport had been revoked," said Watai, a member of the Japan Chess Association. "He had been traveling frequently over the past 10 years, and there was never a problem. I don't understand why his passport was revoked all of a sudden." Considered by many to be the best player ever, Fischer became a grandmaster at age 15. He became a Cold War hero in 1972 when he defeated Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union at a widely followed series of matches in Iceland to become the first American world chess champion. He forfeited the title in 1975, refusing to play when conditions that he demanded proved unacceptable to the International Chess Federation. He resurfaced for a dramatic rematch against Spassky in Yugoslavia in 1992, beating him 10-5 to win $3.35 million. After that, the fiercely private Fischer disappeared, living in secret outside the United States. The U.S. government accused Fischer of violating U.N. sanctions against Yugoslavia by playing the match. The sanctions were imposed on the former Yugoslavia for provoking warfare in neighboring Bosnia-Herzegovina. While incognito, Fischer intermittently gave interviews with a radio station in the Philippines, often digressing into anti-Jewish rants and accusing American officials of hounding him. In the radio interviews, he praised the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, saying America should be "wiped out," and described Jews as "thieving, lying bastards." His mother was Jewish. He also announced that he had abandoned chess in 1996 and launched a new version in Argentina, "Fischerandom," a computerized shuffler that randomly distributes chess pieces on the back row of the chess board at the start of each game. Fischer claimed it would bring the fun back into the game and rid it of cheats. "He was like a child," said Watai. "Chess had been his whole life, so he was sheltered from the world in some ways. Once he made up his mind, he would never change it, no matter what anyone said. That didn't always make people happy." That he would turn up in Japan was not a complete surprise. Fischer had long been rumored to be living in Japan, aided and sheltered by chess devotees, and is believed to have frequented a Tokyo chess club. "He came here often for short stays," said Watai. "He also traveled to the Philippines, Germany, Switzerland and many places." American officials apparently had been following his recent movements. Ferdinand Sampol, Philippine airport immigration chief, said Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez was alerted by the U.S. Embassy in Manila last week that Fischer might try to enter that country. "But there was no request to exclude or remove him from the Philippines," he said. Fischer is believed to have last visited the Philippines in 2003. Filipino Grandmaster Eugene Torre, another longtime friend of the former champion, said Fischer had been planning to seek political asylum in Switzerland and was caught off guard by the arrest. "Poor Bobby," he said. I guess the US is no long "Searching for Bobby Fischer" anymore.

Decent point made, Spicy. Shaq is as much to blame here as anyone, but the question remains: did he want to leave because the team was going in a direction more towards Kobe being the man with him supporting or did he already see the writing on the wall and bail publicly? While that is said, Kobe basically put a gun to the franchise's head with his free agency and basically told to either make him "the man" or he would head elsewhere. It doesn't help that Kobe's agent Rob Pelinka (he of the Carlos "Bamboozler" scandal) had made phone calls to Coach K after game 2 of the finals, with the thinking that Rob, Kobe, and the Lakers were probrably starting to set wheels in motion for change even before the finals ended. And X, I meant the Lakers would be more fun to watch because they will play more uptempo ball as opposed to the halfcourt team they have been the last 5 years. You were wondering why people were picking the Kings ahead of the Lakers in their pre preseason rankings. That is because on paper as of right now, the Kings are the better team. The Lakers have questions and until they play together with a new coach and new system and gel, most people are going to pick a team that has played together now for 3-4 years and while they have no rings, they are a solid, winning ball club. The Lakers got solid guys, but we have no idea whether they will work well as a team and the guys they did get are not gonna strike fear in the hearts of the league on the defensive side of the ball.

I was debating whether to go to CE with this or not and since I lifted the story from fox sports web page, I went with Sports.
