Brock Lesnar/NFL News from the Observer

The following bits come from the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer regarding Brock Lesnar and the NFL. In a story that will be reported shortly in the Baltimore Sun, the Baltimore Ravens have a serious interest in Brock Lesnar due to his speed and strength, as a special teams player. Team officials have already met with Lesnar twice. He hasn't played football since high school in 1995, where he was not a superstar player. He did not recieve any Division I football offers coming out of high school. He's been measured at 6-3 and a half, 290 ibs, and 9% body fat with remarkable size and agility for his size. Defensive End, the position he is going out for, is considered easier than most positions to master, but even those close to him that have watched him think it's a two year minimum. Lesnar had a 5/18 public workout scheduled, but cancelled due to injuries from his motorcycle accident where he suffered a broken jaw, hand, bruising his pelvis and pulling a groin muscle. He rescheduled the workout for 6/2, but aggravated his groin pull and it won't be until late June now. Green Bay, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Dallas, and San Fransisco were said by Lesnar's agent to be attending. Minnesota and Indianapolis reps also indicated they would attend. Dallas and Kansas City didn't confirm or deny and San Fransisco flat out denies interest in the workout. Green Bay and Philadelphia both confirmed interest and Baltimore said to be showing serious interest because of the two meetings, but have not yet set up a workout. He's said to right now have a 475 bench press and a 695 squat. Luke Richesson, the guy who trains him in Tempe, AZ said he's the baddest guy to ever walk into their famous training facility as for a combo of speed, strength, agility, and power, saying no one can match him. Nobody of his size can run as fast or jump as high, plus have the lifting power. Those at the gym say his work ethic is unbelievable. Richesson said he expected Lesnar would run a 4.5 40 at 290 ibs, which is almost unheard of for any human, but tempered that by noting his groin injury may hold him back. Colts coach Tony Dungy said if he runs a 4.7 with witnesses, people will fight over him, and at 5.0, teams will have interest. Comments and thoughts from all you TSM NFL fans out there?

A Decade (and 3 days...) Ago..

June has been a great month for AJPW classics. The usual suspects include... 6/8/90 Jumbo vs Misawa 6/3/94 Misawa vs Kawada 6/5/89 Jumbo vs Tenryu 6/9/95 Misawa/Kawada vs Kawada/Taue These are all 5 star or damn near 5 star classics that should be viewed by anyone looking to make AJPW a part of their wrestling world. (provided that you also do lookup some of the backstory on why the match is happening)

Damn, this didn't get any looks since I've posted it. Was there already a thread on this or does everyone think Brock has zero chance to make it in the NFL ?

On CBSSportsline.com in the NBA section, Rick Carlisle is quoted as saying there will be changes with the team either via the draft, free agency, trades, or some combo of all of them. The Al Harrington thing was addressed in the article as well. Alfdogg, I was just bragging about how my predictions of how the playoffs are going to shape up are coming true. The Pistons are very fortunate J. O'Neal and Tinsley were injured in or throughout the series. It just goes to show you that you also need a little luck with winning the title because you don't know if and when the injury bug will crop up. I know it hurt my Kings in this year's campaign. (Webber not being 100% and Bobby Jackson)

Brock Lesnar/NFL News from the Observer

The article mentioned that he has a decent chance to make a practice team, but little to no chance of making the playing team unless he picks things up very quickly. Even still, with no college experience and not having played in close to a decade, his chances are very slim to even make special teams.

Don't let the smooth taste fool you in that article, VX. Key word is cable ratings. While they are good numbers none the less, they are a different animal in the ratings game as opposed to national network (NBC,CBS,ABC,etc) ratings. Those numbers are great, but can't shake a stick at the national ratings that the Lakers-Kings and Spurs-Lakers numbers did the last 2 years on NBC and ABC. Btw, you can all look at the beginning of this thread and see that I picked the Lakers vs Pistons in the finals, LA winning in 6, which seems to be just about every expert's pick right now. Face it, the media and all of you take your cue's from ME!!!!

Lake show in the Finals. Stern and Co. get their wish. In my opinion, the Pistons have the best chance of beating the Lakers, but I doubt they will since they have scoring droughts. I am pulling for the Pistons (assuming they win their series) since I believe they have the best chance of beating the Lakers, I just have a hard time envisioning it.

The Pacers backcourt will be their downfall in this series or the next. Tinsley has a bad ankle and hamstring and Reggie Miller is no longer the scoring threat he used to be because of his age. The frontcourt is fine and deep, but the Pacer guards are going to have to step it up to keep this a series.

The Pacers have got to find a way to get the ball in the basket if they hope to have any chance in this series. Funny thing is if they win game 4, we are back to square one, except it becomes a 3 game series and Indy gets their homecourt back. Same with the Wolves. God, I love the NBA playoffs, even if my beloved Kings are out.

The One And Only 24 Season 3 Thread

Great finale! I almost broke down with Jack, especially after the shit he went through on this particular day. I heard that Kiefer Sutherland was officially divorcing his wife because he was having an affair with Reiko Aylesworth aka Michelle. Don't know the truth to this rumor or not, but thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm sorry, but that was a bad game. The first half was ok, but the second half became a free throw shooting exhibition. Even Phil Jackson said that in the post game comments. I'll take game 2 of the Indiana/Detroit series than that shit. Add to that the fact that Cassell is a fucking cripple out there and he's a key guy and you can figure out that the Lakers are going to the Finals. However, they are NOT a shoo-in for the championship. I think Detroit and Indiana matchup well against them and will push them to a 6 or 7 game series, hell, Indy or Detroit might even beat the Lakers. You just never know.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Kobe has a subpar game 4. That would be the next game following another court date. Kobe has been brilliant after all those games where he flies in from court an hour or so before the game. The law of averages says that eventually that is going to wear off. I just get the vibe he won't have an explosive game. I didn't say the Lakers would lose game 4, just that Kobe won't have one of his superman games that day.

    RW/RR Inferno Finale

What an anti-climactic finale. They teased that Katie might try to sabotage the finals for her team and she did nothing of the sort. Real World flamed out in the final mission and didn't appear to be a threat to Road Rules, at all. That is kind of the problem with most of these challenges in that they really cater to Road Rules since they kind of know what to expect doing what they do on their show. Real World does nothing but live in a nice house and bitch at each other for 4-6 months.

    So what do YOU THINK......

In defense of Adelman, he did have these depleted Kings in a position to tie and/or win a game 7 on the road. His players didn't do little things like hit free throws and make layups. Adelman can't shoot the ball for them, all he can do is draw up plays to get them there. The only players I'd mark as untouchable on their roster right now are Bibby, Miller, and Songaila with Stojakovic right on the outskirts. The rest of them in my opinion are fair game for the market. The Kings would be fools to resign Divac. While Christie had the best game last night of any of the Kings, at 35, I am not sure he can duplicate what he's done the last few years. They are probrably not going to get a deal for Webber because no one is going to take a chance on a guy with a hefty contract and a bum knee. One possible way out of the Webber deal is to leave him unprotected when the expansion draft comes around, but that would fuck up player/personnel relationships and things would be even worse if the Bobcats decided not to take him. (which I doubt, but you never know) Stojakovic is the guy you will probrably get some value out of, but I am not sure if it's time to give up on him yet. My big beef with him is he disappears in the playoffs when teams can lock in on him and he can't create his own shot off the dribble to get defenders in foul trouble. The Kings would also do themselves a favor and get more athletic in the frontcourt. Their top frontcourt players (Divac, Webber, Stojakovic, Miller) are not particularly athletic and this is a big reason why the Kings get hurt defensively and on the boards. I would have no qualms dealing Peja for the first pick in the draft to pick up Emeka Okafor...oh wait....silly Kings fan in me, I'm dreaming up scenarios again. For real though, Geoff Petrie is a damn good GM and I trust in whatever off season moves he makes for our team. I just hope he does make a move or two though. The Kings need a change. Not an overly dramatic change, but something. Remember, one of the definitions of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Well, as a Kings fan, I'm tired of going insane and something needs to be done. Trust in Petrie, Kings Fans!!!

The Pistons/Pacers series is going to be a war, and I don't think it'll be pretty. If any of these 2 teams score more than 85 in a game, I'll be shocked. I seriously cannot pick a real winner out of this. At the beginning of this thread I picked the Pistons/Lakers finals and that can still happen. However the Pistons must go on the road with only 1 day of prep after a grueling series with the Nets and try to beat the Pacers on their floor, where they have looked virtually unstoppable this year. The homecourt could end up meaning the most in this series with the exception of the Wolves/Kings series. I picked the Pistons at the beginning, but now I think the Pacers are probrably going to advance. Just a gut feeling I got right now, it could change.

    The OAO NBA Playoffs/Finals Thread

Now that all the game 7's are out of the way, you can now get a whiff of DA's awesome NBA analysis. Kings vs Wolves. A good, dramatic game. However not a well played game. Especially by the Kings. 8 for 17 from the line and 31% first half field goal percentage is not going to get the job done. Couple that with the disappearing act of Peja Stojakobitch...I mean, Stojakovic and you have the recipe for the Kings losing. While Bibby didn't have a good game 7, he is still the man on this team and one of the few with killer instinct. This team needs to be his. I remember earlier in the year Webber saying this was Vlade's team. The media thinks it's Webber's. I think starting next year, it needs to be Bibby's. Now speaking of killer instinct, the only other player on the Kings that has it was on the bench the entire series. That was Bobby Jackson. I am not going to make an excuse that Bobby Jackson lost the series for them or that if he would've played, things would be different because we'll never know that. The Wolves were without Troy Hudson the entire series as well, so that squares that up. However, I am disappointed that Bobby Jackson didn't give it a go or at least try to play in game 7. He has been working out and practicing and then said he wouldn't play because he couldn't play up to his standards. At this stage of the season, the Kings don't need that kind of attitude. You've got Webber playing on one fucking leg, Cassell's crippled ass with the back spasms and Wally has 3 fucking bones broken in his back. All of them played. All of them gave it their all. All except Bobby Jackson and that both puzzles and disturbs me. This is a man who suffered a concussion and broken orbital bone last year in game 2 against the Mavs and finished the series without missing a game. I don't know why he didn't give it a go this year. Again, while I don't blame him for the loss of the series, it makes me contemplate what could've been. That said, the Wolves took advantage of the oppurtunities given them and now stare down the barrel of the Lakers shotgun. If the Wolves win two games in this series, it'll be a moral victory. The Lakers are just starting to turn the corner both offensively and defensively and the Wolves simply have no answer for Shaq and Kobe. While I do admire Sprewell's defensive prowess on a smaller Bibby, in a series, against the best 2 guard in the league this side of Orlando, Kobe is going to eat him alive. However, if the non focused, bizarro Lakers show up, I can see them getting pushed to 6 or 7 games, but they will not lose.

I think in all honesty that the Kings have to keep game 7 close thru 3 1/2 quarters and then try to pull away somewhere in the fourth to have a good chance. The Kings do not play well from behind on the road and with an even shorter bench, that will be even more difficult. If the Wolves lead by more than 10 going into the fourth, I think it's lights out for Sactown. The Nets/Pistons really is a toss up. The Pistons have the luxury of playing in their building and the Nets pride as defending Eastern Conference Champs will certainly be on the line. Both teams lack that go to guy in the clutch when you need a bucket right fucking now, so who knows where this will go. But it'll be fun.

Perhaps the Peeler suspension (and trust me, he'll be suspended for game 7) is a blessing in disguise. Instead of Peeler's miserable 31% field goal percentage, we get the energetic and clutch for now Rodney Buford. I like Buford in that he is athletic, something the Kings don't have and abundance of, and he has range on his jumper. Ballsy move by Adelman to play him in the fourth instead of Christie. I marked out when Flip Saunders thought he had the right move by making Jabari Smith shoot free throws instead of taking Peja's one for two and Jabari nailed both. While I don't like that the Kings are on the road and the fact they have never won a game 7, as a Kings fan I have to go in with the mentality that anything can happen in a game 7. If the Kings can get game 7, they may turn the corner. Unfortunately, around the corner is a brick wall called the Lakers. Can't wait to see if the Pistons can stave off elimination. I'll have to respectfully disagree with Just John about the Nets chances against the Lakers if both teams meet in the Finals. The only team the Nets stand a chance against in the Finals is the T-wolves and while they might get past the Kings, they will get swept or put away in 5 against the Lakers. If the Nets make it to the Finals again, they will become the Buffalo Bills of the NBA because they ain't winning it all, plain and simple.

    Mordecai's Opponent REVEALED......

I have no qualms about S2H being the first sacrificial lamb for this lame, Undertaker retread gimmick. While they are at it, why don't they just fire S2H so he can join his former partner Brian Christopher in acting like complete morons and playing grabass in the lockerooms.
  22. I hope Troy does well. It really deserves it and is a fine movie. Nice to see a good movie like Mean Girls not lose too much business while pure shit like Van Helsing dropped off big time. I really can't stress enough how much I hated Van Helsing. Is it just me, or am I the only one who is NOT excited or enthused about seeing Shrek 2? I am just not feeling that movie for some reason.

    Your teams biggest heartbreaking moment

1983 Super Bowl where the Oakland Raiders pummelled my beloved Redskins. I was young and dumb, but I cried that day. 2002 NBA WCF when the Kings lost game 7 in overtime to the Lakers. I've watched that game over and over and that game was the Kings for the taking. Instead, they gave it to the Lakers. For some reason, the more famous game 4 didn't effect me as much, probrably because it wasn't an elimination game.

Will/should the Lakers revamp their roster?

While LA/SA produced the best game of the playoffs so far (game 5) , I think now that LA beat them 4 straight games, it kind of takes the luster off the series as a whole. If the Kings/Wolves goes 7, I can see that taking over as best series of the playoffs so far. One great game a best series does not make.

Diddy Breaks Up Da Band In Series Finale

Some things about Making the Band RRR is right in that Da Band is the worse name for a hip hop group, ever. Just dumb. When they announced that and ran with it, they were already off on the wrong foot. Even with the TV show promoting them, they still have to do positive things to help sell themselves and they did none of that. No one wants to buy an album from a bunch of lazy primadonnas who think they are tight and haven't done jack shit. As far as where I think they'll all end up... Ness- I think he is overrated as a rapper. His flow is not hot, IMO. He did have the best work ethic of the group and I think he'll be a good producer someday. He just won't be a standout rapper. Babs- She's annoying and ugly. Her flow is ok, but I wouldn't put a nickel down for any of her raps. She is way to ghetto. I mean, she is ghe-fucking-tto. And that gets annoying. Someone also needs to hook her up with a spot on "The Swan" because she is the ugliest female MC in hip hop, period. Sara- she'll go nowhere as long as she has that nosy ass, all in your business husband still there. The way he reacted when Babs confronted him about leaving the studio for a meeting with just Band members showed me he has no business managing his wife. Sara is also a big baby and hypocrite. Dylan- He will go nowhere because he is an untalented fuck who is lazy. Chopper- If he can get picked up by either No Limit or Cash Money labels, he might end up ok. He had more charisma in his pinky finger than the rest of the group had in their entire bodies. While I hate New Orleans style rap, he isn't bad in that genre of hip hop and has prescence. He just needs to grow the fuck up. Fred- He needs to be taken out back and have two put in the back of his head for being a grown ass man who sucked his thumb habitually, ON CAMERA!! Fred's flow sucks ass and the things he did (or didn't) do with keeping his appearance in general made him the member of the group I liked the least.
