A thumb war between 2 retards would be more compelling.

WCW wrestlers acquired by old WWF in 2001

Agreed on the paper thin rosters. However, the death knell for the actual ECW/WCW unification was Stephanie being announced as the storyline owner of ECW. Whatever ECW mutant fanbase that was interested quickly tuned out because none of them were buying into Steph as ECW's owner. Good point. Another reason they shouldn't have gone through with the angle in the first place. This is where I part company with you because I don't think the McMahons have it in them to let people from the competition, even if they really aren't competition anymore, go over in any way shape or form. Even if the intention would be to have WWF go over in the end (which is what the plan should be) they wouldn't let the invaders go over in the beginning as they should to heat the feud up. Basically, I don't think the McMahons can successfully do an interpromtional war type angle because they want too much control and won't let anyone but their guys over. That's not to say they don't do other angles and feuds well because they aren't the top promotion in the world without some measures of success, but the very nature of the McMahon's wouldn't allow for the Invasion to be successful IMO.

That's a very good point. Here is a question. If WWE had brought in the big names (Goldberg, Hogan, Steiner, Flair, Sting, whoever) do you still think they would've booked the squash that they did? Or was WCW's rep so far gone that it wouldn't have mattered who lead the Invasion, it would've tanked? From what I gather, you (and for the most part others) say that the Alliance side had nothing to offer, therefore we get what we got. (which still doesn't seem right to me) However, if the guys who were identified more closely with WCW were brought in from the start, do you think they would've done business differently? I don't think they would.

Give me a counter roster for Austin, Rock, Undertaker, Angle, Kane, Big Show and Jericho. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can't really. In hindsight, you aren't going to counter that roster. However, they gave no one on the Alliance side a chance. Even RVD, who was as big a styles clash as they come, was getting over huge to the point they couldn't hold him out of one Main event (No Mercy) and they still wouldn't even attempt to get him over. Thing is, this was booked to be a squash from pretty much the get go. I'm not even saying they did it out of malice, but they couldn't or wouldn't even try with the Alliance guys and they weren't about to let any of them get over by hook or by crook. Were some of them green and a styles clash? Yes. But none were ever in a position to be anything except background for Steph and Shane. It was doomed to fail. The angle should've never have gone forward in the first place. It'd be one thing if they would've tried and it failed, but the chance was never there. It'll always be could'a, would'a, should'a. in regards to the Invasion angle.

They didn't stand a chance from the moment this thing was a go. Didn't matter if they had a bad match (which they did) or a good one, the crowd, who paid to see WWF Raw, didn't want the show to end with Nitro. You are correct in that there was a styles clash. It wasn't like they couldn't work though it though. Guys in the WWF lockerroom were not going to let newbies from "down south" show them up or take their spots, so they claimed they couldn't work. It might've taken some time, but less time than you think. The Alliance definitely could've used the star power of Hogan, Flair, etc, but it like they couldn't have forged ahead without them. The Invasion buyrate proved that. There was interest in the feud with mostly midcard players. Once people caught on that this wasn't even a competition and just a glorified squash, the angle tanked. The feud had zero hope when they decided to not put over any of the WCW/ECW guys. All the positions of power in the Alliance were actually WWE guys. (Austin, Angle, Steph, Shane) My thing is, they didn't even try with any of the WCW guys.

It's not like the guys were big draws since 1998 anyway. Vince handled Invasion as well as it could be handled. He was just stuck with a company lots of people loathed laden with talent too green for the position they were in. This wasn't nearly the level of NWA fucking over UWF. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have to disagree. Once Vince booked the Invasion to be a total squash by WWE and fans picked up on it, that's when the ball rolled downhill. The huge Invasion PPV buyrate shows people were interested in the concept, but after that show, once they portrayed all the WCW and ECW players as second rate citizens and pushed Stone Cold and the McMahon kids as the puppet masters, the thing fell flat on it's face.

Who will have the better 30 Min. Iron Man Match?

I don't think you have anything to fear in a repeating as far as AJ and Daniels is concerned. They have enough carte blanche in the company to do whatever to have a blowaway match and Daniels is too smart to just repeat the same match they did earlier in the year.

    NFL Week 3

Chad Johnson is now the most entertaining WR in all of football. Carson Palmer is the real deal. And this is coming from a Redskins fan. Glad to see a club like the Bengals finally getting good. I'm also a Marvin Lewis mark. Bills losing Takeo Spikes for the year is huge. While the Pats won, if Rodney Harrison is down for the year, the Pats will be in bigger trouble than they think. Although I hate them, great meddle by the Cowboys coming back on the Niners like that after the devastating loss last Monday. (although it is the Niners, not THAT big of a feat Raiders have talent to beat anyone any given week, but I believe because a lot of the pieces are new, they haven't learned how to win together yet. Cadillac Williams is a freakin man. Nuff said. Back of the future.

    NBA Offseason Stuff

My bad. I'll blame Ripper for putting my whole quote in his reply instead of just the part about Payton. DA: making sure it's anyone else's fault but his own since now.

    NBA Offseason Stuff

I never said Songaila was the final piece to the Bulls contending for a championship. He's a good addition to any club because of what he brings to the table.

    NBA Offseason Stuff

He's the perfect backup PF. He's willing to do dirty work and has skills under the basket. When motivated, will actually hit the boards. Also posseses a good outside shot. Payton signing with the Heat just inches us closer to the NBA dream Finals of San Antonio vs Miami.

    Bound For Glory

Credit: Observer site While the rest of the card is excellent and trumps the NWA Title match, Jarrett-Nash is just beyond lame. I really hope they put that match on last and half or more of the audience walks out so Spike and Co. get a clue that Jarrett and Nash are NOT people who should be on top.

    Best matches 2000-2005

This spot plays off of Jumbo vs Misawa from 9/1/90. This is not the match where Jumbo made Misawa with the flash pin, but the rematch where Jumbo got his win back to establish he was still a top guy. (since he jobbed the Triple Crown to Gordy 2 days before he made Misawa on 6/8/90) In the 9/1 match, Misawa is laying a whipping in the corner to Jumbo and Jumbo slowly rises out of the corner, like Misawa did with Kawada, no sells the blows, and then proceeds to lay a beating on poor Misawa and eventually defeats him to show him he's still "the man". Just like Misawa would do to Kawada 4 years later.

    Lots of News

On DVDVR message board, someone is citing a site called PWSpyware saying TNA has inked Austin Aries to a deal and is bringing in Tito Ortiz sometime after the 10/1 debut on Spike TV. Grain of salt, folks.

Nash must win the World Title.

I understand Nash being involved in the main event angle is a necessary evil and I don't outright hate the idea, but they should not put the title on him and I don't think anyone is interested in Nash-Jarrett II. Perhaps he'll be an enforcer or special ref for Jarrett's title match? I don't know, but I'm not feeling a Nash title reign right now. Perhaps, Brown defeats Jarrett at BFG with help from Nash (since Jarrett doesn't know how to job cleanly anymore) and then Nash says since he helped Monty out, he wants a title shot. While Nash vs Monty matches might suck, I wouldn't mind Nash being fed to Monty.

Kenta Kobashi on Raw Homecomming ??

If Kobashi is in the building that night, he will not be taking part in anything on camera or wrestling. I guarnatee it. It's not out of the relm of possibility that he's there as a guest of Laurinitis since the two are close from Laurinitis's AJPW days and I'm banking some of the boys in the back have seen and/or heard about him. However, there is no way in hell he will be on the show. He'll probrably be at the show.
  20. Explain the Boogeyman then. He is not ready. Vince has been told he isn't ready and has done less than 5 matches in front of people. Yet if it weren't for Boogeyman hyperextending both knees, he'd already be on TV. They ran the ads for him and everything.

I'm hoping that means the rumors are true and that TNA signed Roderick Strong. They need to also sign Aries.

    Hurricane Rita

My brother, who is also one of NoCalMike's best friends lives in Houston. I just got off the phone with him and told him he needs to get out of that city asap. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good news is my brother made it out of Houston today after leaving early yesterday and made it to a friend's house in San Antonio.

    Danger Zone 8-30-2005

New Danger Zone, kiddies. In this week's installment we look at... Thoughts on this last Thursday's Smackdown and the latest Raw TNA- Impact, ads run during Raw, Jericho, thoughts on the future (if there is one) ROH- Kenta Kobashi's 10/1 and 10/2 dates as well as the effects of putting the title on guys who are leaving and why it's happening. Plus TSM'ers emails and other types of fun. (can we get a mod to pin this thread and takedown the old 8-22-2005 DZ show thread?)

Not a credible source (saw it on DVDVR message board), but some CZW site for news or something is reporting that TNA inked a deal with Roderick Strong.

    No More Hassan

It's not as black and white as you make it out to be. There is a difference between getting people to want to pay to see you get beaten up or defeated in a match versus offending people to the point where they don't want to watch the product. Sure, it'd be nice if people weren't so over-sensitive cause then the WWE would have a field day, but unfortunately that isn't the world we live in.
