Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe
mw679 replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Draft Faggotry
Evan Bourne I figured I'd better grab someone to start up my cruiserweight division and seeing there was a run on some of the best, I figured I'd grab one of the young up and comers in the business. He's also shown he can work well with the hosses, so that's a plus, too. -

Tully Blanchard Former NWA TV champ, US champ and Tag Team champ. My next pick and opponent for RVD, The Wild Child himself, Tully Blanchard. I was going to take Styles if he was here, but Tully was my back up plan. I think he'd do well using his ring savvy against RVD's high flying style and counter with his straight forward offense. -

The Great Muta With my next pick, I'm going international. IMO, one of the most gifted workers to grace the ring, and most likely will be in my main event. He's adapted his style to injuries and lengthened his career by changing up the image of his character. I think I'm going to pair him against Taker and play up the "mysticism" that each one possesses. -

Rude was definitely up there on my board as well. I figured he had no chance of slipping to me, though. -

Rob Van Dam I'm selecting the Whole F'n Show. He's versitile and the fans love him. Although, I'm not totally sure I'm gonna pair him up against Taker just yet. I might have something else in mind.... -

The Undertaker I was hoping for Savage at this spot but I'll certainly take the Phenom at this point in the draft and build around him. Boston, MA TD BankNorth Garden -

Agreed. Bourne been getting some nice pops from the crowd, lately. I just wish Kofi was still in ECW, I think he could have a nice little spotfest with Bourne that would really get the crowd going.

1. TheOriginalOrangeGoblin- Probably has the most albums I could listen to front to back and really enjoy. 2. "Hail" bps21- As mentioned earlier, just a good collection of listenable albums and artists. Solid picks all around. 3. Milky- Just for the insanity of it(I mean that in a good way.). I can't believe the Geto Boys slipped my mind completely, that was a great pick. Honorable mention to StevieKick's first 10, the list kind of fell apart after that, but that top 10 has a lot of good stuff on there.

Ric Flair vs. Jumbo Tsuruta/NWA Title/2 out of 3 Falls/AJPW/June 8th, 1983 For my final pick, I'm taking two of the best in their primes, fighting for the NWA championship. This was in Japan, Flair and Jumbo had wrestled a few times previously to this one, but I think this is the best out of the bunch. A little strange for a 2/3 falls match, Jumbo takes the first fall about 30:00 minutes in, and the 2nd fall is the 60:00 minute time limit, so Jumbo took a fall, but because of the time, Flair walked out still the champ. Just a great match that builds and builds, with Flair working the leg and knee and Jumbo continuing to make the superman comeback time and again only to get stopped short due to the time limit. If you want to download the match, go to http://www.theditch.biz and its under the 4/17/08 update on the page.

Eddy Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko/2 out of 3 Falls/ECW/August 26, 1995 The final matches for both both Eddy and Dean in ECW. A nice technical match showcasing each ones abilities. The ECW crowd is quite vocal throughout the match, chanting "Please, Don't Go!", but really appreciating what they both bring to the table skill-wise. The first fall is a little sloppy, as Eddy gets a quick rollup on Dean aftr some submission and mat wrestling, Dean gets a fall of his own fairly quickly after that with a submission off a Texas Cloverleaf. They finiish with a great sequence where both of their shoulders are down with the 3 count, so it's a draw. I would definitely take the post match thank you's of Eddy and Dean to the ECW crowd, and the locker room emptying to celebrate two of the best.

Yes! Great match, I was thinking about grabbing that one earlier.

RVD vs. Jerry Lynn/ECW TV Title/Living Dangerously/March 21st, 1999 Seeing as their Hardcore Heaven match has already been taken, I'll grab their match from Living Dangerously, which helped show people Lynn was a serious worker in the business. Some nice highspots in this one as RVD and Lynn go back and forth trading shots and moves(and each missing shots and moves), RVD finishes Lynn off with a Van Daminator followed by a nasty 5 star frog splash(changing direction in mid air) to a standing ovation from the crowd, to retain the TV title.

Edge vs. The Undertaker/World Heavyweight Championship/Wrestlemania XXIV/March 30th, 2008 Well, there's been a few of the matches selected already, so I'm going to take the one I enjoyed 2nd most(first was HBK-Flair). I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, I figured Taker would win, but Edge put on a great match with both guys kicking out of finishers and of course, Taker winning with the submission. A cool match and a great way to end a giant spectacle like Wrestlemania.

Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog/WWF Championship/WWF In Your House 5: Seasons Beatings/December 17th, 1995 Another great Bret vs. Bulldog matchup. A nice 20 minute back and forth match. Diana is in the corner of Davey Boy, who is looking to defeat Bret like he did in Wembley in 92. Some nice technical work by Bret countered by some good brawling and power moves of Davey Boy. Bret does a deep bladejob, turning the mat and Davey's trunks pink from all the blood. The only downsides to the match are Diana's bad acting(and the fact they have it split-screened on her and the match half the time.) and, of course, Vince's annoying commentating. Normally, Vince doesn't bother me that much, but he really grates on me in this one. Anyway, Bret wins with a La Magistral cradle(!) to retain.

That would be my guess, Gert. I believe Jericho started wrestling with WCW in August of 96, so that's probably right.

AC/DC- T.N.T. 1975 Might as well grab this classic with one of my last picks. Contains a lot of the songs found on the American released "High Voltage" album. This is the follow up to the Aussie "High Voltage". Anyway, just a great hard rock album with tracks like, "It's A Long Way To The Top(If You Want To Rock 'N Roll)", "T.N.T.", "Rocker", "Live Wire" and a cover of Chuck Berry's "School Days". This is one album I always go back to listen to. The White Stripes- Elephant 2003 For me, this is the most consistant album of theirs. I love the others but this one is closest to what I thought their sound should be. Nice contrast in heavier tracks("Seven Nation Army", Black Math", "Ball And Biscuit", "The Hardest Button To Button") and more melodic("I Want To Be The Boy To Warm Your Mother's Heart", "In The Cold, Cold Night", "You Got Her In Your Pocket").A good listen all around. Living Colour- Live From CBGB's 12/19/89 2005 Last but not least, I'm taking Living Colour. I figured since I love live music, I need a live album. They are pretty close to their peak at this point, Corey Glover's vocals are great, as is Vernon Reid's guitar playing. Muzz Skillings and Will Calhoun hold down the rhythm section wonderfully. I really like how they open with their biggest hit "Cult Of Personality" and really focus on the material that would later end up on their "Time's Up" album. This also features unreleased songs "Soldiers Blues" and "Little Lies" and a cover of Bad Brains "Sailin' On".

Chris Jericho vs. 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Pitbull #2 vs. "The Franchise" Shane Douglas/4 Corners Match/ECW TV Title/Heatwave '96/July 13th, 1996 40 minutes of awesome. That's about the only way to descibe this one. Jericho comes in the champ and is the first one eliminated. 2 Cold Scorpio does his usual great high flying offense but falls victim to a superbomb. The match just builds and builds and, of course, the real story in this one is the fued between Douglas and Pitbull #2. It comes down to the both of them and here is where Francine turns on the Pitbulls, joins Douglas and she gets powerbombed through a table for her efforts. A great ending with Pitbull #2 kicking out from shots from a broken table, a chain, brass knucks and a shot from the title belt itself. Douglas finally gets the win with the belly to belly suplex to clinch his 2nd TV ttle.

Nice pick...That one was next on my list.

Joe Bonamassa- Blues Deluxe 2003 Continuing my run of blues albums, here is one from one of the best young blues guitartists around today. Joe's first true blues album(his previous releases had a more rock feel to them), he covers some great ones including John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Elmore James and Albert Collins. The title track, was written by Rod Stewart when he was with the Jeff Beck group and Joe does a fantastic job covering it. Definitely one I need to have if I was stranded. Standouts are "Blues Deluxe", "Woke Up Dreaming", "Burning Hell" and "You Upset Me Baby".

Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit/Cage Match/RAW/June 11th, 2001 Great TV Match between these two. Angle missing the moonsault off the top of the cage, Benoit with the diving headbutt off the top and Austin on commentary just makes this one so fun to watch. Austin on Benoit: "I can't stand the little snaggletooth bastard!" Good stuff all around.

Dynamite Kid vs. Tiger Mask/NJPW/April 21st, 1983 Widely considered one of their best, IMO it is their best. When these two were in the ring, they just clicked. Fun match and I don't think there was anyone at the time that could match the speed of Tiger Mask except for DK, awesome reversals and it built off of their previous encounters nicely. I believe this was ranked #2 in the "Observers Top 100 matches of the '80's" list.

Awesome pick. That one completely slipped my mind.

Vader vs. Cactus Jack/WCW Championship/Texas Deathmatch/Halloween Havoc/October 24th, 1993 Here is a great one from WCW '93, granted, WCW kinda sucked back then, but this match is an awesome one. Foley takes some nasty bumps(what else is new...). This was the blow off to the infamous "amnesia angle", it was also a Texas Deathmatch and Vader just beats the living hell out of Mick. In the end, Vader gets the victory after some assistance from Harley Race.

The Great Sasuke vs. Jushin Lyger/Semi-Finals/NJPW Super J Cup 94/April 16th, 1994 Seeing as Ravenbomb stole the finals match from me, I gotta grab the semi-final match that's just as good. Sasuke gets his ass kicked by Lyger in the beginning, Lyger is busting out crazy submissions and leveling Sasuke with stiff shots. Sasuke battles back in amazing fashion hitting moonsaults and other flying moves. Oh, did I mention the crowd is HOT for this one? Anyway, if you haven't seen this tournament, you owe it to yourself to check it out. One of my favorites and the one that got me into puro.
