    The Slowly-Dying Death of RPG's.

Most RPG plots really aren't that unique. Person with mysterious parentage is exiled from home village (or home village is destroyed) and he/she joins up with a rag-tag group of adventurers to stop someone bent on world domination. Every other SNES RPG has that formula for their story.

This is a really good point. There were a ton of cut-scenes in FFIV, FFVI, and Chrono Trigger. Remember all of the flashbacks in VI, or the big cut-scene explaining Frog's past before he blew a path through the mountain? I mean, if someone hated them then and hates them now, that's consistent and something I can understand. But enjoying a 30 min cutscene ending in FFVI and hating cutscenes in the current generation is hypocritcal.

X-2 wasn't just a suit push for the horny male audience. It seemed as much trying to lure in female gamers with the whole girl-power theme. And really, if you don't like a game you don't have to play it. How anyone sees a videogame as a slap in the face is beyond me. The stuff about MMORPGs is retarded as well. Sure, a game like XI is a massive cash cow. But they are a cash cow partially because of the huge demand for them. Look at World of Warcraft. It's not like deep old school RPGs aren't created anymore. Disgaea definately had that old-school flair. So do games like Growlanser, Tales Of Symphonia, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Shin Megumi Tensei, etc. Maybe those games didn't get the hype of XI or X-2, but it's not like the market is completely devoid of older-style RPGs. Your blame on "the Suits" is very amusing. Games haven't been designed by programmers for a long time. Deal with it. If you can't handle that, go sit in a darkened basement with a copy of Dragon Warrior and the D&D Players Manual clutched to your chest, while the rest of world moves on.

Don't forget Ed Reed in that Ravens secondary. The trio of Reed/Rolle/McCallister should terrorize QBs. Especially whoever the heck Cleveland starts. Don't the Cowboys need a corner? Maybe the Raiders could ship Woodson off to them for the Cowboys 2nd first rounder. Or even a 2nd rounder, they have to ditch Woodson.

    "You screwed Matt!"

Aww, too bad it cuts off Viscera's wicked save. Those chants were amazing though, that giant "You screwed Matt" chant really freaked the girls out.

    I need an RPG........

I can't remember, watched the video before lunch. But I think it was Gau. Gau was always a glutton for punishment. And yeah, it looks like they put a lot of work into it. Pretty amazing stuff. And it reminds me of just how epic that VI ending really was.

Watch this All FFVI fans should watch that, though it does take forever. Reliving the VI ending was fun. And how perfect was X-Box as Umaro? PS2 as the Emperor?

    The Amazing Race 7

Meh, I still like her better than Kendra. At least she has a sense of humour.

Edge is a pretty funny guy. Not someone I'd want to be friends with, but still funny.

    Fantasy Football - Pre Season

I agree with pinjockey, though I see Williams being a very big redzone threat. His main assets are his crazy hands, large frame, and jumping ability. If he ends up on a team like Minnesota, you know he'll be a prime target for those corner fade routes. Jones isn't only a threat in the red zone. That psycho sub 4.4 40 means he has the ability to just blow right past a corner. He could be a big threat on deep post routes, or even fly patterns. A QB with a strong arm could just toss it up long range, and Jones has the speed and size to come down with it. I think he needs to learn a lot more about the position to be a real threat this year, though. He's more a late round flyer or FA pickup in a FF league, and it really depends on what team he ends up on (eg he probably won't be so great in a dinky-dunky west coast offense). Any QB drafted by Arizona has a lot of potential. Dennis Green loves the vertical game and doesn't have a lot of faith in Josh McNown, so a strong-armed QB like Adrian McPherson could really shine.

IIRC Setzer was never really after Kefka, he only joined the party because of Celes. The character portraits were all bizarre. Every character looked very emaciated and elongated, it might have been a good thing they ended up super deformed. So who else glitched their game? Nothing like throwing unlimited Atma Weapons at everyone, or equipping everyone with Economizers.

Another funny link I really wish I could have seen this segment. Hopefully there's a torrent around soon enough.

    I need an RPG........

Man, Chupon really was beatable???? Man, I think I need to play VI again, but it's tough to play through the beginning. When the game came out, I was too young to be able to buy it outright, and my parents weren't willing to drop 70 bucks or whatever on it, so I would always rent the game and play as much as possible. I'd usually get to around Zozo or so (depending on how long I rented it for) and then have to return it. Next time I rented, the save would never be there. So basically I played through the beginning game like a zillion times and got fairly sick of it. I would snap up a remake, though. That would be killer. This is almost a VI thread, so just for kicks here's my favorite party: Celes - Magic and physical power, plus the awesome Runic ability Sabin - Bum Rush was retarded powerful Cyan - His sword abilities were cool Edgar - CHAINSAW~ Edit: And just as I post, Gaming FM has the Black Mages doing "Dancing Mad" from VI. Good timing.

    I need an RPG........

I wasted so much time at the Arena trying to win stuff. For some reason I thought I could defeat that sneezing guy. I thought, maybe if I did just a bit more damage in my first hit I could get him. Anyone try beating WOR with just three characters (Celes/Edgar/Setzer, the only ones you have to take before hitting Kefka's tower)?

    I need an RPG........

I've never even heard of a Lufia 3. Lufia 1 was the first RPG I ever played, fun times. Lufia 2 was also enjoyable, I wasted a lot of time at the Casino in it. And Flik, it's not like you have the same guys working on script as you do on textures or backend coding or whatever. They're different departments, and in a large successful company like Square, they wouldn't have to fire script writers to bring on more programmers. If anything, they would just hire more coders based on anticipated sales of VII (which would have been plenty in Japan alone).

The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

I think everyone liked Connor for his bits in Season 5. VK was great there. It's almost like the ME writers absolutely must have an angsty teenager in their shows. Though River isn't quite angsty and about a zillion times cooler than Dawn.

    The NFL Offseason/Pre-Draft Thread

I'm sure Randy Moss would love that, "You get rid of me because I cause controversy, good idea to bring in Terrell Owens to take my place." I think Minnesota is content with taking either Braylon Edwards or Mike Williams in the draft, and they already have a roster full of underrated receivers. Here's how I would handle TO, and why I think he could work in Minnesota. The Vikings can basically make a Super Bowl push this year based on their vastly improved defense. They can pay TO a massive signing bonus, keep under the cap, and have enough passes going his way to keep him happy. They make their push to the Superbowl, and if all goes well they win. The next day, they cut TO. He's a rental player now, it seems like he will shit disturb no matter what team he is on. The guy can't be counted on to be long term, but hey, he doesn't have to know that. Meanwhile, the Vikings could still grab Mike Williams to groom behind whomever they have in the receiving corps. You're almost certainly right about the Vikes being much happier with Edwards or Williams, but I can pipe dream.

    Devil's Advocate

The ESPN Sunday Night broadcast occaisonally offers insightful commentary. Some of their in-depth pieces are not terrible. The bickering between the commentators in not the only redeeming factor of their broadcast.

Yeah, I'm closer to chaosrage then to flik here. I really enjoyed X, and I played VI to death. 7 was something I played, but I'd easily put it below X and VI.

    The NFL Offseason/Pre-Draft Thread

They already have Derrick Mason, and if TO didn't like Garcia and Mcnabb, he'll hate Boller. One team that has some cap room, has a strong-armed QB with a wide open passing game, and is in need of a WR: Minnesota.

    I need an RPG........

I thought Disgaea was fun and amusing, but La Pucelle made me want to gouge my eyes out. The gameplay is fairly deep and intricate, good stuff. The storyline is meant for pre-teens. I actually couldn't finish the game because the story was so retarded (which is kinda crazy considering I had no problem with X-2). I have to say I did like FFX and X-2. X-2 actually had a fairly solid storyline, but a lot of people are turned off by the Charlie's Angels vibe the game has. Covenant is probably the best PS2 rpg. I played it without playing the orginal Shadow Hearts, and I understood the storyline just fine. The humor falls flat at times, but overall it's quite good. I'd take SH:C over the extremely overrated FFVII/Xenogears. Chrono Trigger still holds up after a good 10+ years.

Tales of Legendia Confirmed for U.S. Release

Best rpg last year? Last year had Shadow Hearts 2, which destroys Tales of Symphonia. I played a bit of ToS. Shockingly, a young boy adventurer with a mysterious lineage gets exiled from his village. Boring.
