Eric's right. Just level someone up with the right magicite and they can have really high magic or really high <insert stat here>. Using everyone's favorite river loop, I built up Edgar into this insane magic user, and Celes became a tank. Not exactly what their roles are supposed to be.

The place was called Canada though. Someone could have been "Upper Canadian" or "Lower Canadian", which is still technically Canadian. Canada didn't beat the US though. Like you said, nobody ever mentions the "Canadian" invasion that was repelled by the Americans. I think there were five invasions back and forth. It was a pretty lame war. Then the Brits finished up with Napolean and could send troops over, leading to the White House burning and an eventual truce. It's hard to argue that was a victory for Canada. I'm pretty sure the Americans sacked York, right? So it was pretty much even.

And here I figured it would be Lance Storm.

Randy Orton is a legend-killer. Bob Orton is a legend. Tease that Orton turns face and is going to leave Evolution, have Bob save him from an Evolution beatdown, then have Randy absolutely destroy Bob in a tag match against Evolution. And I don't mean destroy as in chairshot + RKO or something. Like, as brutal as they can get given Bob's age and whatnot. That should generate some damn heat.

Put him in a spray-painted Stormtrooper mask and rename him. Something like Jolt-Lord. That's never been done before.

The US didn't win the war of 1812, but they didn't really lose. Sure, the White House was burned down (by Brits, not Canadians) but it's not like the US surrendered or anything. In the same vein, Canada didn't win or lose that war either.

Well, you would expect that, would you not? If I was a cat and I was suddenly drafted on to an NBA team, I'd be confused as well. The Grizzlies should just give up and suit up some actual Grizzlies. I would pay to see that.

I think Ragnarok esper is much easier to find, though...you can stumble upon it without a guide or whatever. I did my first time through. The only reason to breed Chocobos in VII though is to get KOTR. Chances are you didn't know about it until you heard from a friend or found out from an FAQ or something. With that being said, KOTR is way more overpowered than Ultima. It's been a while since I've played FFVI, but I'm pretty sure you can't just blast off an ultima or two and kill off the end boss.

I'm not sure about the recent FF games starting strong and ending weak. Didn't play IX, and I find it hard to judge X and VII. VIII fits the bill, but it seems like VI actually started slow and ended strong (to me anyways). Though VI isn't exactly recent. With X2, I actually did think it ended stronger than it started. I understand why you'd stop playing though. If I didn't like the supporting cast, I probably would have stopped too. It's tough playing through a game when you want to kill everyone that you're supposed to help. As for the villian, they actually are not as strong as Kefka. Who is? I did like the villian though, it was pretty interesting and worked in the context of the story. I do think X2 is close to X in terms of quality. The story of Yuna "finding herself" is more interesting that Tidus' story IMO. I'm not saying you have to like X2, but you can't say anyone who compares it to X is retarded when you haven't played the whole thing through. I actually agree with you on a bunch of points (I like the battle system in X better, and Auron was a far cooler character than any of the cast in X2). I think if I hated the supporting cast we'd actually have pretty similar opinions on the games. But a comparison doesn't work well when you compare a game you completed to one where you didn't get to see the crux of the story (since a story gets fleshed out as you progress and the earlier stuff starts to make more sense in terms of the overall themes etc). Do you sorta see my point here?

US bans Europe from bidding on Iraq reconstruction

Apparently Canada is bankrupt, according to Fox. News to me, since we've had six straight years of budget surplus. I agree about our lack of a military though. -
The villians aren't at the same level as Kefka etc because you don't even know who the main villian is yet. But hey, it's ok to call anyone who thinks it's close to FFX in quality a retard, especially if those people have bothered to play it through. They obviously have no idea, right?

US bans Europe from bidding on Iraq reconstruction

I understand why the US gov't would do this. What I don't get is why didn't they just keep the policy to themselves? Let a bunch of Germans bid for a contract, who cares. Just award it to whatever pro-US company you feel like awarding it to. By announcing it to everyone, it becomes a big deal. Say nothing and maybe a couple of articles a few months down the road show up, which everyone promptly forgets about the next time a celebrity does something stupid. Though, to be honest, I don't have a firm grasp of how the process works. If I'm blatantly wrong somewhere, feel free to shoot me. -
In no particular order, 1) FFX-2 2) Disgaea 3) ESPN NFL Football I haven't played enough of KOTOR or Prince of Persia to list em, but they're both quite fun.

I gave up on the fight after getting my ass kicked, then went back later. It's quite beatable. Alchemist + Megapotion is your friend. That plus some poisonproof makes the battle a *lot* easier.

Jesus, Angelslayer, the guy asked to mark all spoilers. That's a pretty giant spoiler.

Or any other book that Eddings has written, since they're all pretty much the same. What a hack. Belgariad was a very fun read back in the day though. Getting back on topic: FFVII is not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination. Sure, there are some plot holes, but if you go into it not spoiled at all with the story, you should like it. Much better than IV or IX, that's for sure.

It's too bad Mooch is locked up with Detroit, I think he could have worked for Atlanta. Who else is going to be available in the offseason? Whatever they do, they better not hire Bill Callahan.
-
So who will eventually be hired as head coach? Jim Fassel? Bleh.
-
Ugh, Jeremy Shockey sucks. Can you believe that guy was nailing Vida Guerra? Blah. If the guy gets some terrible injury that kills his football career, I could see him jumping to WWE. He's stupid enough to do it, and enjoys trash talking so he could probably cut a decent promo.

The Rams are not that good, people. They barely beat the freaking Browns last night. The only reason they won is (a) Aeneas Williams rules (b) Cleveland has suckass QBs The team is constantly turning it over. Sure, they have a lot of takeaways too, but any team that can limit their turnovers and can contain Faulk should beat em. They'll beat Detroit in week 17, because Detroit sucks. But Seattle might be able to win, and I have to think the Bengals have a chance here. Either way, once St Louis runs into a team that doesn't turn it over in the playoffs, they're done.
-
Congrats to everyone who made it into the playoffs. Looks like every match could go either way. Sucks to be Marvin, who ended the season with four straight wins but just barely was edged out. Good show, man.

Gah. It's tough but worthwhile. If you really find it too tough, you might want to play FFTA...it's quite a bit easier, and lets you get used to the way a tactics-style game plays. Or just grab Disgaea.
-
Kahran is right. Make sure to equally build up your characters, and really make sure that Ramza learns Jump (that Wiegraf battle is nigh-impossible without Jump). The game is very tough, but worthwhile...the story is among the best FF stories, if not the best straight up.
-
Well, I beat it. Might as well chime in with my thoughts. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I got the "good" ending. I loved FFX ending the way it did, with Tidus biting the bullet. But you sorta knew they'd have a cheesy happy ending to X2. I think the game is stronger with the "normal" ending (ie no Tidus reunion hour), but the cheesy ending pulled on the old heartstrings. And even the cheesy ending pushed Yuna's characterization a bit ("You've changed"). I enjoyed the Shuyin/Lenne stuff, as a sort of "what might have been" if Tidus had failed to save Yuna. Their story was just as interesting as Yuna's path of self-discovery. Plus Shuyin whipping out all of Tidus' old overdrives was awesome. I'm happy with how the game turned out. We got to revisit a world that I really enjoyed, and sorta see what happened. It even potentially ties into FFVII, with the whole Shinra discovering the lifeforce of the planet thing. That was crazy. Wonder if they'll use that in the FFVII movie. Who knows.
