People were tired of the depressing shit. They wanted music to be fun again. Then the Spice Girls came along in '97, began the new millennium pop revolution, that ran its course, and here we are today.

Yeah, that little pub area in North Wildwood. You know--from about the Beach House to Keenan's. There are beer vendors in the streets and they have signs at the borders of the party saying "no alcohol beyond this point".

Teen Found Chained to a Bed and nearly starved to
Skywarp! replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
They need to put him on the Morgan Spurlock diet, quick. Of course, his heart would blow up at the end of the month, anyway. -
And someone dropped thirty-one bucks on a pen.

Have none of you read "MacBeth"? What makes you think that killing detainees will stop the beheadings?

Saddam plans to run for President of Iraq
Skywarp! replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
I don't think someone in jail could run for president. Then again, if he's on the ballot, and he wins, well that would be like saying this whole horrible mess was just a waste of time. -
Yeah, the pub scene in North Wildwood is going to be packed. There's going to be drunk kids/adults clogging the streets. You can have alcohol outside within certain borders. I went a couple times, but I hate huge crowds, so I avoid it anymore. However, have fun.

I'm temping for a major publisher. I was a marketing coordinator, but they hired someone for that position and now I'm temping as a publicity assistant. That won't go perm for me either. It's unnerving waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Great. More stuff not worth watching on that station.

Awesome. Can anyone verify this? Paging Snopes...

The man is a disgrace to his own legacy.

If you're a punk, then it could be shameful to not know who the Clash are. Otherwise, it's just not that person's taste to care or seek them out (rap or country fans). Should they be chastized for not hearing about them? In a way, it seems like people that live in pop-culture caves must be doing something right. I know everyone in here read in jealous awe of the person who doesn't know Metalica. We would be a better society if less oozed through our bullshit filters.

Ignore what people are saying Shoes Head; this is a great read. The people bashing you are just trying to shake off their own guilt of the random chance of being born into a comfortable situation. And I like what you're doing. Too many of us white, privaleged people take our comfort for granted. Most of us don't have to worry about when the electric goes out and no one comes to fix it for 5 days, or not having hot water or a working stove. By gaining perspective, you'll never take anything you've been handed just from the luck of being born white and upper class, again. Your experiment is more than I can hack, I'll tell you that. My girlfriend is a social worker though, so she sees these kind of enviornments firsthand. Looking forward to the next installment...

That excuse no longer holds water, because even with machine guns the American citizens couldn't overthrow the government. They have helicopters and cruise missles that can kill all rebels from miles away, not to mention tanks. If Bush announced a dictatorship tomorrow, even if we were all packing, we couldn't do a damn thing about it.

[Onion] Hundreds of Republicans injured
Skywarp! replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in General Chat
The last two superb issues were the 9/11 themed ones. The Onion is funny enough, it's just not as uproarious as it used to be. The "What Do You Think?" piece is the only one worth reading every week. That, and The Onion AV Club. They are the only critics in this nation that are consitantly on-point with music and movie reviews. -
This needs bumping.

I'm finally going to admit that I had a thing for Demona from "Gargoyles." Anyone remember Chun Li's shower scene in "Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie?"

It probably has to do with the fact that if the word "Smackdown" wasn't first, people would think it was more directly related to the shitty "Raw" brand of games. Being called "Smackdown!" is the popular franchise's identity, where for the other two systems, changing the name and trying to emerge as a brand-new entity (Like "Wrestlemania" to "Day of Reckoning") could only help.

I'm surprised no one called Paul H. on saying that sexual orientation strife is uncomperable to racial strife. He said: "So the fact that you use the comparison to the Black struggle for Civil Rights digusts me.Blacks where burned, hung, raped and humiliated for hundreds of years, yet gays are blocked from only playing house and somehow it's the same, right?Get a grip." Ok, because no one was ever beaten to death because they were gay (Matthew Sheppard) or burned (the term "fag" originated in England as a synonym for "twig". When they would burn a gay person to death, they'd say "gather up the fags"). Gay people have been killed throughout history, we just have better records of blacks in peril with first-hand accounts of American slavery. You say that gay oppression has nothing to do with civil rights. The point of civil rights is to make everyone equal, that is, eliminate discrimination, right? What are the ways you can discriminate? As a reference, most paperwork for employment contains the clause "we do not discriminate based on: race/ethnicity, religion, age, sex, and SEXUAL ORIENTATION." I'm probably even forgetting a few. Your ignorance astounds me more with each post you bring.

1001 Things to Hate About The Convention...

What was I supposed to laugh at?... You have to admit that the Jeremy Irons one was good. -
Since when is the U.S.-given right to protest "ludicrous?" Also, Kerry's camp has distanced themselves from it. Kerry hasn't discussed it --- honestly, it would've been an infinitely bigger problem if, say, Dean won --- that I've heard. And since when is the American right to protest "ludicrous"? Well, when you're advocating communism and anarchy, which would do a bang-up job of removing that right. -=Mike Funny, since removing the right to protest would be communistic.

Who's not voting in this presidential election?
Skywarp! replied to Youth N Asia's topic in General Chat
A shitty two-party system is in place because you've been brainwashed to think that a choice for President has to be EITHER/OR, despite the fact that there used to be 4-way elections between 4 similarly powerful parties. Nader's point in running in the '00 election wasn't to win, he and his supporters knew that, but to get something like 5-15% of the vote. I forget the actual number, but the point was if he reached that number, then the party would get a great deal more funding to be a real threat in the '04 election. He was tenths of a point away from that number. So no, voting 3rd party isn't throwing your vote away. If everyone who wasn't going to vote anyway (and, more than any other case, literally be throwing their votes away) decided to vote 3rd party, just for the hell of it, major change to our political system might someday be achieved. -
Well, Playboy is going to run some nude CGI images of video game chicks in an upcoming issue, such as the Bloodrayne chick.

What is this recent wave of Russian terrorism about? First the blown-up airplanes, now this?
