When's the last time we had a thread about cover songs?

I know this may be just cause for an immediate banning, but I kind of prefer Sugar Ray's version of "Abracadabra" to the original. It may be the only good thing they've ever done. Although I lost my taste for Sublime years ago, I suppose they belong on this list as well, being that most of their songs are covers either in whole or in part, so some of them are bound to be better than the originals based on the law of large numbers. This is why people that rag on Sublime give them the title of "Best Cover Band of All Time," which tends to piss off their diehard followers.

    Star Wars Transformers

Lushus, A good Transfan community can be found on the forums at the Transformers Archive. The site itself has some cool artwork, as well as fanfiction and other golden nuggets. On the forum itself, there is a folder for posting your fanfictions, in whatever stage of development, for feedback. You might want to share yours there, and see what people say.

    ENRON

The most frustrating scene in the whole movie is when two sales associates are laughing with glee about cutting out the power in California, while footage was shown of people being loaded into ambulances at intersections with dead traffic lights.

    Star Wars Transformers

Well, here's some of the comparisons that get made in hardcore Star Wars/TF Universe geekiness posts: -Mentor cut down in front of strapping young lad of destiny: Obi Wan and Luke/Optimus and Hot Rod -And at some point, Megatron actually wields a lightsaber to help him do it, complete with lightsaber sound effects. -Massive killer orb of death: Death Star/Unicron -Semi-mystical force that the young hero discovers he can wield: The Force/The Matrix -The climatic battle between the hero and the villain takes place inside the massive weapon while a huge battle takes place outside of it (and yes, at that point Unicron revealed he had a second form, but then again, so did Spaceball 1 ). -Arcee is blatantly sporting Princess Leia hair. -Others argue that Springer's personality is akin to Han Solo (and if you read a draft of the script, Springer is described in his introduction as an "Indiana Jones type"...close enough?). This brings us to: -The love triangle, where at first it seems the woman is smitten on the young hero, but in later installments, grows closer to the Solo-type (it's true that in the TF Universe, this happened post Movie). -The mystical force helps the young hero to destroy the massive weapon (I know that reference to earlier points, this means I lumped Death Star 1 and 2 together). And those are the obvious ones. I don't want to hold other points against the movie, such as the good guys' last minute escape from the exploding weapon, because at that point, they're already written into a corner. What else is going to happen? But if you want to nitpick, I'm sure we could come up with lots more, such as a parallell between the Junkions and Ewoks (savage species at first hostile to the good guys, but eventually joining forces in the greater war). Besides it was said earlier and it's true: you could compare any fantasy movie from the last 20 years to Star Wars. And at the heart of it all, TF:TM is still has a lot of unique charm in its own right, and I'll always have a soft spot for it.

    Star Wars Transformers

Well, this might make a lot of sense to the hardcore Transfans, since there have been many discussions in those circles on just how much of a rip off "Transformers: The Movie" is of Star Wars.

Whatever you do, stay away from Wrestlemania X-8. However cheap you find it, it's still not worth it.

Disney and Devo present Devo 2.0

Throw in "Peek-A-Boo!" and I'm sold. Does anyone have a link for that old music video? I haven't seen it in over 20 years, but I remember it being fantastic in it's strangeness.

Italian Court to decide whether Jesus existed

Sounds just a touch bitter about something. Well, he does have a point about the Church keeping society in the stone age. For example, Christian missionaries in AIDS-ridden Africa incorrectly teaching the locals not to use condoms, since according to them, they don't work. Of course, the reason for these lies is the Church's negative stance on any form of birth control.

    TSM's Holiday Whoring Thread 2005

Here is the dumbest signature move I have ever seen. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2274224618982599830 Although, when I think about it, Crush's Heart Punch or Kerry Von Erich's Texas Tornado Punch may be worse...

    Tony Dungy's Son Found Dead

Even worse is that we have to deal with the NFL's and network's posturing that if the Colts win next week's "emotional" game, it will make this kid's death a little easier to take. As if burying your child and a sport are even comperable. I'm only saying this becuase it pissed me off earlier this year when ESPN and other sports announcers were basically insinuating that when New Orleans seemed like a decent team ealier this year, it somehow made the flooding of the entire city all better.

    Andre The Giant's Theme Music

I need to correct myself. Andre had three video game themes--for Wrestlemania, Wresltemania Challenge, and the "Original 4" (?) song on No Mercy.

    best wrestling game for nin64

This is the way I feel about Attitude: When the best part of a game is creating everyone you know and having them rumble it out in all-COM mode, it must be an unplayable game. (still had a lot of fun sitting around with pals, drinking and watching our CAW royal rumbles, though.)

    G4 cancels G4TV.com and Filter

The entire problem is that a channel about video games will always sound better on paper than it could ever be in practice. Eventually you'll be stretching to come up with programming content, and there's only so much stock footage of people bumbling around the first levels of games that I can look at.

    vinyl vs. cd

Well, it does seem like more of an effort when it's on a cassette--after all, they had to create the tape in real time it takes to listen to it (or in sped up dub, if you have it), so it feels like the maker is more connected to the final product. For a CD, you can just drag and drop tracks so quickly and haphazardly that making the CD could take 1/20th of the time spent actually listening to it, and hence, have less forethought and sentiment poured into it. But other than that, mix CDs are just better to have.
