I can't say I'm surprised at any of this silliness on the PPV. But here is one bit I found on 1wrestling.com that I'll share. It seems feasible: "Frustration among ECW Originals is said to be rampant in the lockerroom, and 1Wrestling.com reports that two top ECW names could be on their way out. Rob Van Dam's contract is due to expire in six months, and his colleagues say that the frustrated wrestler is counting the days until he's done with the company. Sabu, who has scored backstage heat for behavioral issues, is reportedly acting in a way that gives the impression he is almost 'trying to get fired.'"

Not that I am all that shocked, but how the hell is USC STILL ahead of U of L in the BCS standings? What an insult. Anyway, I am gonna take Ohio St. is a fairly boring game over Florida (10-14 points). Fiesta: I'll go with Boise pulling a mild upset over OU (upset?). 38-34. Sugar: As most have said, this is a beating. LSU 42-20. Rose: I think Michigan won't give a shit quite honestly, feeling screwed by the BCS. And you know how teams do when they feel screwed by the BCS. USC 24-17. Orange: I'm obviously biased here, but I think U of L will beat Wake's ass badly. It might as well be at Papa John's since U of L will have most of the crowd (Wake has no fanbase). In honor of the 1991 Fiesta Bowl team's win over Bama, I'll say U of L 34-7.

Florida's 12-1 on the season but aesthetically they are the drizzling shits. Beating Vandy by 6, UGA and FSU by 7 (when both are way down) are dubious wins....yet they did beat LSU and Tennessee, etc. Those who pose the question "Who would win between Florida and Michigan?" are missing the point. It doesn't matter. If the game is in Gainesville, I'd take FL. If it's in Ann Arbor, I'd take Michigan. Neutral site, I have no idea. Frankly I don't think FL is all that much but I'd grudgingly have to say let them in the title game. 12-1 and SEC champ is a better resume than 11-1 and tied for 2nd in the Big 10 with a tiebreaker over Wisconsin. Besides, one of my pet peeves is seeing a Rose Bowl that isn't even Big 10 vs. Pac 10. Michigan/USC is the game I'd prefer there, rather than some bizarre crap with LSU going to Pasadena. Conversely, if Michigan/USC happens then LSU can stay in state for the Sugar Bowl and maim ND. I'll take it a step further. We know FL can beat LSU, but do we know they can beat U of L? Could FL beat Boise (probably, but I doubt they'd wanna venture to the blue turf)? What I'd like to see is the playoff, but if we can't have that why not a more feasible system of ranking teams? For instance, I've ranted on LSU being entirely too high in the BCS considering the 2 losses and technically finishing 3rd in the SEC west. I think teams that finish ahead of someone should automatically be given considerations over another team (in this case Arkansas and Auburn both should be BCS over LSU). Once again, I apologize on behalf of U of L for us losing to Rutgers. If we don't blow it in the 2nd half, there's no controversy.

Living Daylights isn't a terrible theme if you can stand overproduced 80s stuff like A-Ha. Die Another Day? That one truly sucks. It might even be worse than Man With the Golden Gun. At least MWTGG sounds somewhat like a real song, not just robotic mumbling.
-
I'm still just pumped over that game. One of the best games ever, but maybe I'm biased since I obviously am thrilled at the result. Who is Rutgers going to play in the Texas Bowl anyway? At this point I bet they phone it in and lose to whoever it is.
-
YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was flat out jumping up and down for that finish. We're going to the BCS baby!
-
Oh lord, after that Ga Tech/Wake shitfest I am practically licking my chops hoping that WVU wins tonight. Does anyone not think U of L would destroy Wake by like 30? The Orange Bowl has to be crying right now. They either get a Rutgers/Wake game that would be another 9-6 turd with zero fan interest, or they get U of L nuking Wake 42-10.

Well, look at what WCW's top drawing feud ever was. Hogan vs. Sting. Hogan being the NWO heel in the feud and Sting the face. It was ludicrous to assume fans would simply start cheering Hogan again at the drop of a hat and boo Sting. Sting had been a face as far back as WCW fans could remember.

I totally agree. Having the bowls just invite whoever they feel like goes against the spirit of legitimiate competition. College football needs to be more about who has earned a spot, not just who can fill a stadium regardless of what kind of team they have. For some reason I can't see the Rose Bowl taking LSU. I can see it maybe if Florida wins the SEC title, but what about if Arkansas wins? Arkansas goes to the Sugar and there's no way in hell LSU deserves the BCS over Florida (Florida won the SEC East and also has a head to head win). I would think the Orange Bowl would want Florida if they lose the SEC title game. In other words, we'd get more backroom dealings to where the Rose Bowl agrees to take ND at that point, the Sugar gets Arkansas, the Orange takes Florida over the Big East winner, and LSU would be screwed.

WON News + Notes, 4th December Issue
cabbageboy replied to The Decemberists's topic in TNA Wrestling
I was amazed as to why Angle thinks he's going to end up running the company. Let's face it, Jarrett is a vastly superior backstage politician and if it really came down to it he would have Dixie Carter on his side. All Jarrett would have to do is rail against Angle and say he's a washed up hasbeen and has alienated most of the roster. And from the way it sounds, he'd likely be right. I can see the young guys listening to Angle's "advice" but it'd be amusing to see what happens if Angle lectures some of the veteran guys on how to work. -
The mechanics of Sting's heel turn weren't all that bad, it's just that nobody wanted to boo the guy and he himself quickly soured on the idea of being a heel. So he kinda drifted back into a tweener against Bret for a while, then just went face again. Sting had been screwed over by some many people that year alone, what with him being suspected of being the Hummer Driver and all, that people quite enjoyed him finally snapping and not giving a shit for once.

Honestly, at this point the best Nick Dinsmore can hope for is to just get sent back down here to OVW and become a trainer. Something that keeps him on the payroll. Let's face it, the guy's wrestling career is basically screwed at this point. The Eugene character has run its course and it's such an iron clad gimmick it's going to be almost impossible to do anything else. I don't even think having Dinsmore renounce the gimmick would salvage him.

Honestly, I think it would need to be 16 teams. With an 8 team playoff a lot of teams don't get a chance that likely would deserve it. Recall that to be considered for the BCS you have to be in the top 14. How do you make the judgement call on which 8 teams would make it? It'd end up being a bunch of crap like the BCS, and deserving teams get snubbed. Anyway, higher seeds get home field in the first round at the least, then it moves to neutral bowl sites. Here is my bracket: Ohio St. (1) vs. Wake Forest (16) Boise St. (8) vs. Arkansas (9) Florida (4) vs. Rutgers (13) LSU (5) vs. Oklahoma (12) Louisville (6) vs. Auburn (11) Michigan (3) vs. Virginia Tech (14) Wisconsin (7) vs. Notre Dame (10) USC (2) vs. West Virginia (15) Seriously, aren't those some great matchups or what?
-
I saw Maryland against Michigan St. and to be honest I didn't find either team all that impressive. Maryland will be their usual Sweet 16 type selves, but not much beyond that. No way in hell are they in the class of the 2002 team.

Here's the schedule for the NFL in Week 12 starting with Thanksgiving games and ending on the usual MNF game. And of course predictions. Thanksgiving 12:30: Miami (4-6) at Detroit (2-8): It's Thanksgiving tradition to suffer through a Lions game. The Dolphins are on a trademark Jobber Roll (as in a crappy team that gets on a streak that overall will mean nothing). I'll take Miami by 7. 4:15: Tampa Bay (3-7) at Dallas (6-4): Cowboys look to have really improved and the notion of a short week letdown is silly considering the Bucs have the same short week. Dallas by 14. 8:00: Denver (7-3) at Kansas City (6-4): Can you feel the Broncos starting to tank a bit? I can. I'll take the Chiefs and home by 4, and the Cutler talk intensifies in Denver. Sunday 1:00: Jacksonville (6-4) at Buffalo (4-6): Jacksonville has followed solid wins with baffling road losses this season, so expect that trend to continue. Bills aren't as bad as predicted. Buffalo in an ugly game 14-10. Houston (3-7) at NY Jets (5-5): The Jets are an up and down team but they should get a win at home here. Jets by 10. Pittsburgh (4-6) at Baltimore (8-2): Well, one Jobber Roll has to come to an end and that looks like the Steelers here. Ravens win it in close fashion 24-20. Cincinnati (5-5) at Cleveland (3-7): The Browns tend to play people tough only to lose it late, and I think something like that will happen here as well. Bengals by 6. Carolina (6-4) at Washington (3-7): Panthers have been back on track since the Cowboys squashed them. They should continue here with a road win over the Skins by about 10. Arizona (2-8) at Minnesota (4-6): The Vikings have been puzzling this year, but the Cardinals are wretched. Vikings will win this at home by 7. New Orleans (6-4) at Atlanta (5-5): The Saints are starting to tail off and the Falcons are in free fall. Can't help but think the Falcons will pay back the Saints from earlier. Atlanta by 4. San Francisco (5-5) at St. Louis (4-6): Okay, this crap with the Niners is getting a bit out of hand, haha. Rams bring them back down to earth 31-17 since they need the win. 4:00: Oakland (2-8) at San Diego (8-2): Oh God, can you say total squash? Chargers by however much they want. I'll say 21. Chicago (9-1) at New England (7-3): This should have been the NBC game of the week. I am honestly on the fence here, it depends on what Grossman does. I'll say the Bears win this by 7 but it wouldn't shock me if NE won. NY Giants (6-4) at Tennessee (3-7): Giants are reeling right now and the Titans have improved. But the Giants pretty much have to win this, so I'll take them by 3. 8:15: Philadelphia (5-5) at Indianapolis (9-1): Without McNabb everyone will predict a Colts squash, but the Colts can't squash much of anyone this year. Indy by 10. Monday 8:30: Green Bay (4-6) at Seattle (6-4): Packers are a very up and down team, and who knows what the Seahawks are like health wise. I'll say Seattle wins either way, probably by about 9.

I think the two best themes have to be Live and Let Die and Nobody Does it Better. Great themes and yet seem like actual songs on the radio, and are timeless to boot. View to a Kill is ultra overproduced and 80s sounding, not as timeless.
-
First off, I don't really know who is conclusively better between Michigan and USC. It's irrelevant really since Michigan didn't win the Big 10 and to me if you don't win your conference you don't play for the title. It's not like Michigan is getting fucked over THAT bad...they've got the Rose Bowl, after all. I've watched Florida a few times this year and frankly they don't amaze me one iota. They're kind of a dull team to watch. And even moreso I don't honestly buy into the SEC as this juggernaut of a conference this year. Hell, UK finished 3rd (and really should have finished 2nd) in the east and UK is still a team any legit team should maul. I don't care who Arkansas had hurt, they still got the shit kicked out of them 50-14 by USC at home.

Best Song: Nobody Does It Better. Worst Song: Die Another Day (I almost said TMWTGG but at least that is an actual SONG, not robotic rambling). Best Bond Girl: Tracy from OHMSS Worst Bond Girl: Miss Goodnight from TMWTGG I was soooo close to saying Jinx on that. But Ms. Goodnight wins out, since she was by far the most inept, embarrassing Bond girl ever. I thought of saying the chick from Living Daylights too, but at least she could play the cello. Ms. Goodnight though? She actively sabotages Bond at several points in the film by being totally clueless. In regards to Jinx, I have something to ask. What was the point of the entire character being in the movie? Rewatch Die Another Day and you'll understand what I mean. She has zero point even existing. Bond could still go to Cuba, find the gene therapy lab, go to Iceland, etc. She contributes jack shit. Add to it Rosamund Pike (as Miranda Frost) being a much more critical character, as well as being a lot hotter than Jinx.

This Borat aspect can't be for real, can it? If so then Kid Rock sounds like a total douche. Why would he have such a problem with her being in the Borat movie? Aside from the scene showing some of the sex tape there wasn't an especially negative portrayal of her.

Why exactly hate USC to that degree? They've been a great team the past few years, I don't think they've screwed people out of a BCS bid, etc. I can see hating Notre Dame for the ludicrous bias they get from the BCS and TV networks. I can see disliking Texas a bit as well for using the good old boys network in the Coaches Poll to sneak higher in the polls than they deserve. What has USC done that is so bad?

As someone from Louisville it's hard for me to separate the notion of OVW as a local fed from the idea that people around the country don't know what it is. I think it's been around long enough and referred to enough that most fans kinda know OVW is a minor league fed. The biggest mistake for these guys in the Spirit Squad is that they actually pushed this lame gimmick. If they did this goofy schtick for a couple of months and then veered into different directions they would have been fine. But they actually pushed them into a spot vs. DX that nobody bought them in, and they got killed. And then kept the tag titles on them entirely too long, then kept the group going far past anyone's tolerance.
-
Yeah it's hard to feel sorry for the Spirit Squad too much. They are beyond any level of stale, and since I'm from Louisville I got a blast out of the OVW bit on the box. The talented guys in the group will come back from this (Doane, Jeter), while guys like Nemeth and Mitchell will get released. Not sure about Mike Mondo, maybe he can be a crazy little guy with a big tag partner like he was in OVW.

And now to see how I did on predictions: Thanksgiving 12:30: Miami (4-6) at Detroit (2-8): It's Thanksgiving tradition to suffer through a Lions game. The Dolphins are on a trademark Jobber Roll (as in a crappy team that gets on a streak that overall will mean nothing). I'll take Miami by 7. (A lot easier than this. 1 for 1) 4:15: Tampa Bay (3-7) at Dallas (6-4): Cowboys look to have really improved and the notion of a short week letdown is silly considering the Bucs have the same short week. Dallas by 14. (Ended up Dallas by a lot. 2 for 2) 8:00: Denver (7-3) at Kansas City (6-4): Can you feel the Broncos starting to tank a bit? I can. I'll take the Chiefs and home by 4, and the Cutler talk intensifies in Denver. (KC won it at home, 3 for 3) Sunday 1:00: Jacksonville (6-4) at Buffalo (4-6): Jacksonville has followed solid wins with baffling road losses this season, so expect that trend to continue. Bills aren't as bad as predicted. Buffalo in an ugly game 14-10. (Not so ugly, but the result was accurate. 4 for 4) Houston (3-7) at NY Jets (5-5): The Jets are an up and down team but they should get a win at home here. Jets by 10. (Jets won this one easy enough. 5 for 5) Pittsburgh (4-6) at Baltimore (8-2): Well, one Jobber Roll has to come to an end and that looks like the Steelers here. Ravens win it in close fashion 24-20. (Ended up a total rout for the Ravens. 6 for 6) Cincinnati (5-5) at Cleveland (3-7): The Browns tend to play people tough only to lose it late, and I think something like that will happen here as well. Bengals by 6. (Another total squash here. 7 for 7) Carolina (6-4) at Washington (3-7): Panthers have been back on track since the Cowboys squashed them. They should continue here with a road win over the Skins by about 10. (Skins stepped up here and got the slightly surprising win. 7 for 8) Arizona (2-8) at Minnesota (4-6): The Vikings have been puzzling this year, but the Cardinals are wretched. Vikings will win this at home by 7. (Vikings stagger but hold on here. 8 for 9) New Orleans (6-4) at Atlanta (5-5): The Saints are starting to tail off and the Falcons are in free fall. Can't help but think the Falcons will pay back the Saints from earlier. Atlanta by 4. (Falcons in total freefall. 8 for 10) San Francisco (5-5) at St. Louis (4-6): Okay, this crap with the Niners is getting a bit out of hand, haha. Rams bring them back down to earth 31-17 since they need the win. (Not this bad but the Rams did manage to win it. 9 for 11) 4:00: Oakland (2-8) at San Diego (8-2): Oh God, can you say total squash? Chargers by however much they want. I'll say 21. (Not really a squash at all, Raiders are doing better. 10 for 12) Chicago (9-1) at New England (7-3): This should have been the NBC game of the week. I am honestly on the fence here, it depends on what Grossman does. I'll say the Bears win this by 7 but it wouldn't shock me if NE won. (Wasn't shocked that the Pats won here. 10 for 13) NY Giants (6-4) at Tennessee (3-7): Giants are reeling right now and the Titans have improved. But the Giants pretty much have to win this, so I'll take them by 3. (Ouch, the Giants are in big trouble. 10 for 14) 8:15: Philadelphia (5-5) at Indianapolis (9-1): Without McNabb everyone will predict a Colts squash, but the Colts can't squash much of anyone this year. Indy by 10. (Mostly a squash. 11 for 15)

Yeah I didn't much care for the show tonight and most of it was due to the insanely rushed nature of the eliminations. In a really good Survivor Series these things take 30 mins. or so. I guess it was amusing to see Team RKO get trashed, but it didn't make for much of a match. And it sucked that RVD and Sabu basically went out like chumps in Philly.

The SEC did not have a very good day yesterday with LSU and Florida both losing to teams from Kansas. I think the MVC lost its status as a mid major when CBS showed the title game at 2:00 on the Saturday before Selection Sunday. Of course the game ended up being that S. Illinois/Bradley clunker, but Bradley ended up making a good tourney run. Do you guys realize that Pitt may end up being #1 in the nation? If not this week in all polls then likely next week.
