Die Another Day sucks all sorts of cock. There is a reason they jettisoned Brosnan and did a reboot on the series. BVD, here's the problem with your For Your Eyes Only analysis: Bond movies are NOT based in any sort of realistic world. They are escapist fare. Sure, the villain is more realistic I guess...but he just sucks either way. He has no standout quality. The henchmen are standard KGB or German thugs that could be in any actioner of the early 80s. I also like it when a film reiterates what the goal exactly is, but in FYEO the decoder is mentioned maybe once early in the film and then forgotten. The stunts are very good however. It's a middling Bond outing. Not notably bad, but lacks the spark of greatness. It's....filler. OHMSS would have been the best in the series with Connery. As is, it's still very good and one of the best. Certain scenes just don't work right with anyone but Connery, like Bond cleaning out his desk and the various themes from previous films play as he remembers the adventures. Lazenby wasn't in those films so it doesn't work right. With Connery it would have been a downbeat finale to Bond's hellfire 1962-69 period that sent Bond in a new direction for the 70s. With Lazenby it was an oddball one shot deal that was quickly forgotten in continuity aside from the occasional brief mention of Teresa (in Spy Who Loved Me, also FYEO at the beginning).

For some reason I don't get the love some have for For Your Eyes Only. I just rewatched it over the weekend and I don't really get why it's anything more than a **1/2 movie. Has a mediocre, rehashed plot (let's get another decoder!) and the villains in it are among the weakest in the series.

I don't get the argument that the Pats with Tom Brady are really the epitome of well balanced offense. The past couple of years Brady has been a superstar QB, but with the Super Bowl teams? He was mostly the epitome of a game manager on a high level. Brady usually never went nuts on someone, the Pats just played good defense, kicked the ball well, didn't turn it over much, and had solid special teams. Then won seemingly all their games 17-13 or so. As for the Colts, I have to wonder....has the D REALLY cost them the past 3 years? In the 2 Patriot losses they gave up 24 and 20 points. That isn't really terrible if the Colts offense shows up and scores 28. Last year they gave up 21 to the Steelers, which isn't awful either. I don't much care for these game manager QBs either. History won't remember teams like the 2000 Ravens or the 2002 Bucs as being all that good, certainly nowhere near teams like the 49ers, Steelers, Cowboys of the past. The 2000 Ravens are a bit of a guilty pleasure, but I don't think they played anyone in the playoffs that year that was worth a damn.

I think some Bond movies have more rewatchability than others. I am going to rewatch the box sets to gear up for Casino Royale. Most of the Connery outings are highly watchable. The only one of his that I find a bit drawn out and dull is Thunderball, since it has way too much underwater stuff. The crappiest Bond movies in my view are these: Man With the Golden Gun, View to a Kill, Die Another Day, Tomorrow Never Dies, and maybe Octopussy (though Octopussy scared me big time when I was about 5...I hated seeing the clown die). It's odd that I have 2 Brosnan outings on the crap list, since I actually rank him as the #2 Bond overall. It was like I enjoyed him as Bond, but thought the plot of the movie sucked or that it was way too overproduced. If I had to give a top 5 it'd go like this: 1. Goldfinger (Best Connery outing, coolest villains, great women, killer plot and gadgets) 2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Lazenby holds this back from being the best, but it's got the best female lead of the series, and the most emotion and characterization) 3. Goldeneye (The best Brosnan outing and jumpstarted the series again after Dalton damn near wrecked it) 4. The Spy Who Loved Me (Best Moore outing, great villains in Stromberg and Jaws, excellent theme song too) 5. From Russia With Love (either this one or Dr. No but I give FRWL a mild edge).

Oh I think ND if they win out definitely would play for the title. I don't really see it happening, but it could happen. Here is my point about why this stuff is corrupt. Whether or not WVU may or may not be better than U of L is irrelevant. U of L beat them. Think about the logic here of the BCS. U of L and WVU may both finish 11-1. U of L has the head to head win....and yet WVU goes to the BCS? Is there anyone who can defend something this utterly retarded? Want more corruption? U of L finished #10 in the BCS in 2004. Conveniently the rules were changed this past year to where someone ranked #12 from a non BCS league can go. That is the biggest fraud of the BCS, namely who actually gets in it. Notre Dame can finish #14 and still be considered over a U of L team that could finish #6 or so in the BCS standings. There absolutely has to be some kind of rule saying that one team ranked higher in the BCS cannot be passed over for a lower ranked team in terms of selecting the at large teams.

I don't have much sympathy for the guy at the rodeo. The frat boys didn't really say much that was all THAT shocking to me, since if you know those kind of guys the behavior isn't that odd. The guy at the rodeo lectured Borat on not looking too Muslim, and also basically said he wanted all homosexuals taken out and shot. The things I find repeatedly amazing about this film are: 1) Why do these people actually agree to participate in a dubious Kazakhstan documentary? 2) After meeting Borat why do none of them realize he's putting them on? 3) Why do they say all this stuff with a camera present?

Okay lemme check the results: Sunday 1:00: NY Jets (4-4) at New England (6-2): NE is usually solid coming off a loss and the Jets don't really rock my world or anything. Pats by 10. (Jets surprised me a bit in miserable weather today. 0 for 1) Kansas City (5-3) at Miami (2-6): Will the Dolphins keep it going after beating the Bears? Will Huard continue his hot play? I'm not real sure either way, but I'll go with the Dolphins here to keep their jobber run going. Miami by 3. (Nailed this one dead on. 1 for 2) San Diego (6-2) at Cincinnati (4-4): The Bengals flat out must win this game if they want to stay in the playoff hunt. That said, Chargers are better so unless they really screw up they should take this. SD by 7. (SD rallied to win by 8 actually. 2 for 3) Buffalo (3-5) at Indianapolis (8-0): I can't see the Colts losing that 1st game at home to the Bills. Yet I also don't think this is a huge squash for some reason. Indy by 10. (Well I was right about it being a trap game for the Colts and not a squash. 3 for 4) Baltimore (6-2) at Tennessee (2-6): The Ravens are the epitome of a man's team. They should keep it rolling hear and smash the Titans fairly easy. Baltimore by 14. (Well, the Ravens didn't play so manly but still managed to edge the Titans. 4 for 5) Houston (2-6) at Jacksonville (5-3): The Jags seem back on track with Garrard in the game. Sure, Houston shocked them earlier but it won't happen twice. JAX by 13. (Well it did happen twice. Really odd. 4 for 6) Washington (3-5) at Philadelphia (4-4): A curious matchup. Oddly I think both teams might be better than the record indicates, and since Philly has this at home I'll take them by 7. (Wasn't even close. 5 for 7) Green Bay (3-5) at Minnesota (4-4): Packers always have had trouble in Minnesota, and the fliratation with decency looks to be over. Vikings by 9. (Packers get a nice win in the dome, surprising. 5 for 8) San Francisco (3-5) at Detroit (2-6): How the hell are the Niners 3-5? I think the Lions can be dangerous at home, at least enough to beat the Niners. Detroit by 4. (Hard to predict these jobber matchups. 5 for 9) Cleveland (2-6) at Atlanta (5-3): The Falcons are a baffling team, capable of looking wonderful one week and losing to the Lions the next. Still, this is the Browns we're talking about here. Atlanta rebounds and wins by 14. (What the hell is up with Atlanta? Losing to the Lions and Browns? Yeesh. 5 for 10) 4:00 Denver (6-2) at Oakland (2-6): This should be a boring affair similar to the first meeting. Raiders have been surprisingly dangerous at times at home, but I can't see them winning here. Denver in another snoozer, 17-3. (Raiders played better than I figured, still a typical Broncos snoozer though. 6 for 11) New Orleans (6-2) at Pittsburgh (2-6): Steelers are reeling and the Saints continue to do well this year. For some reason though I can't help but think the Steelers bear down at home and pull this one off, 28-24. (Ended up 38-31 for the Steelers. 7 for 12) St. Louis (4-4) at Seattle (5-3): First matchup was great, this one I dunno so much. Rams really should have won the first meeting and I think they will take this one 34-31. (Man, Rams just can't buy a win against these guys. 7 for 13) Dallas (4-4) at Arizona (1-7): The ultimate humiliation for the Cowboys would be to lose here. Not even I am so cruel as to predict that however. Dallas by 10. (Easy one here, Cowboys won by 17. 8 for 14) 8:15: Chicago (7-1) at NY Giants (6-2): Giants are incredibly banged out right now and the Bears will look to rebound from the embarrassing loss last week. I can't see the Giants winning one. Bears by 7. (Bears won it by more than that. 9 for 15)

Man, I know the Colts staggered to 9-0 today but they looked like shit. Utecht fumbled the ball on a drive, then of course Dominic Rhodes fumbled late and could have cost them the game. Thankfully Rian Lindell decided to suck for the Bills. Just wondering, but why not feature Addai at this point at RB? He's clearly better out there.

Let me get this straight. U of L loses on a last second FG to an unbeaten team on the road and falls 8 spots in the fucking coaches poll. And of course falling behind WVU, who we just beat. Is there any doubt college football is the most disgraceful sport on the face of the earth when it comes to blatant corruption? Fuck it, we're still going to the BCS. Cincinnati, you've got to come through and beat Rutgers. Then WVU will obviously crush them to end the season, thus U of L can go 11-1 and have the tiebreaker.
-
I thought it was interesting that the village was mostly a bunch of gypsies, considering the way Borat badmouthed gypsies in the film. As far as the villagers go, at least they are getting some press now in regards to how shitty the conditions are in the area. I hardly think anyone watching the movie takes it literally.

I'm assuming Umaga is supposed to be the main challenger on Raw at this point for Cena, but nobody takes him seriously at that kind of level or gives him a chance in hell of winning the belt. Umaga shouldn't be in the title scene right now. He's not remotely over enough to put the title on, and yet they probably want to keep his unbeaten run going. I'd personally keep Umaga undefeated until WM and then do streak vs. streak with UT. And of course UT beats him.
-
You guys are still horribly overrating Rutgers. I mean Rutgers going undefeated? They're more likely to get smashed by WVU 35-14 to end the season and maybe lose to Cincy to finish 10-2 than they are to go 12-0. And even in the new BCS poll I can't see Rutgers moving up to anywhere beyond #7. I can't see them passing Florida, USC, or Notre Dame. In fact the Big East may well have the 7, 8, and 9 spots unless Arkansas moves up into the top 10.
-
Personally I think it was a combo of the Edge feud and also the ECW angle that got Cena back over. The whole bit against RVD and to some extent Sabu got Cena over since it showed he could go against serious odds but still come back for a fight. Of course, focusing the angle on "Gee, can Cena overcome the odds at One Night Stand?" was totally the wrong thing to book in my view, but even accidentally it helped Cena in the long run.

Slayer I am happy for KSU too since that does nothing but help U of L's SOS. For all those Big East haters I have to mention U of L owned KSU in Manhattan without Bush or Brohm. I just really, really hope U of L can stay ahead of WVU. That's the key. Since if they take out Rutgers and we win out, it's very likely U of L can stay atop the BCS from the Big East.
-
Hmm...I have to wonder. With Florida struggling and looking shitty today, Cal losing, and Auburn tanking will U of L really fall terribly far due to the Rutgers loss? Let's see, there's Michigan and OSU on top, I'm assuming Texas or Florida will be a wholly underserved #3 and the other #4, USC at #5, ND at #6, and maybe from that point Rutgers at #7? I'm still terrified that U of L will somehow end up behind WVU even after just beating them (and if that happens be prepared for me to go off on an anti BCS tirade the likes of which hasn't ever been seen on this board). Not sure I see anyone else besides Rutgers really making a huge leap in the rankings. I'm hoping U of L just drops to #8 or so.

Yeah but did the woman really deserve to be fired over a silly Borat appearance? It was foolish perhaps to not do much research, but he didn't really do serious overall harm to the show.
-
Is there really anything to the notion that Smackdown draws way less than Raw in terms of TV ratings or PPV buyrates? Since SD has moved to the CW I'd say the number of viewers is right around that of Raw. And I do recall reading that the Judgment Day buyrate ended up higher than Backlash.
-
Lashley has one major problem if he goes to ECW and gets the title as a top face: He's not going to be anywhere near as over as RVD. But man after reading his interview there is there anyone who isn't burying Batista these days?
-
I'm glad to get back mostly to the old school tag matches. What the hell, why not do the Ultimate Survivor thing at the end again like in 1990. Of course we all know it'd be HHH and HBK surviving, so maybe it's best not to bother. The 1994 show also had Bret/Backlund in a submission match. That's a match that time has been surprisingly kind to. The cross face chicken wing, there's a finisher awaiting a new user.

Okay what? These guys were engaging in behavior they wouldn't normally engage in? Let's see, these guys were a bunch of white frat house boys getting drunk, watching the Pamela Anderson tape, and rambling about how minorities and Jews are hurting the country. They might call it unusual behavior. I call it a typical night at a frat house.

The Colts should squash, but this is the team who only beat the Titans by 1 recently. Could be a mild letdown after the insane Denver/NE back to back. Still, JP Losman trying to end the Colts' streak? Incidentally, why does CBS only show some games in HD? Fox has all their games in HD. I know Houston vs. Jacksonville has all the appeal of a damp rag, but if you're a major network you need to show all the games in HD.

Does anyone else think it's time to strip a conference of its BCS bid for a given year? As in not outright strip the conference, but do it on a year to year basis. For instance, there isn't anyone in the ACC that is legit BCS worthy. Thus there are 4 BCS bowls and the title game, so just take the top 10 in the BCS and do it that way. If this sounds insane, ignore it. I got next to no sleep last night after that game.
-
Yeah but if U of L ends up ahead of WVU and Rutgers in the BCS standings it's a moot point. We'd get the BCS bid from the Big East. I'm really hoping to keep the at large aspect out of it, because that leaves gray area and gray area leads to screwjobs. That said, USC, Cal, and ND all play each other and FL and Auburn might have a rematch. I have to wonder...is Auburn really BCS worthy if they don't make the SEC title game? The teams most likely to screw U of L out of a BCS bid would be Boise St. and whoever wins the ACC.
-
Then it's imperative that U of L stay ahead of WVU in the next rankings (which in a just world we would). From there if U of L wins out, it's BCS time.
-
And you can cheer next week for Rutgers as they lose to Cincy. At the very least Cincy will take them to the wire in that game, and I think they can pull it off. Yes, that is wishful thinking. Anyway, I dunno what will happen to U of L in the rankings at this point. It would be horribly unfair to drop out of the top 10 after losing by 3 to an unbeaten team. The million dollar question is this: What happens if U of L, Rutgers, and WVU all finish 11-1. I think it depends on what U of L goes down to this week. We can all agree if WVU simply beats Rutgers then Rutgers is toast and not in any discussion for BCS. But who goes to the BCS between U of L and WVU? U of L SHOULD still be ahead of WVU in the next BCS due to head to head win, so if we win out I'm not sure whether they could jump us.
