This was a decent show tonight, not really amazing but not too bad. I enjoyed Flair/Foley though I thought the ending was a bit lame with Foley quitting to protect Melina (aside: there were too many chicks coming out during matches tonight). I'm trying to figure out what the point of this Rey/Chavo feud is. Neither man was really over tonight and it's making crowds feel uncomfortable. Hogan/Orton was actually a bit better than I was thinking it would be, mainly because it was kept short enough to where Orton didn't get to do nonstop headlocks. That said, I was begging for Hogan to no sell the RKO and a whole match of legwork, then nail Orton with the bad leg and drop the bad leg for the pin. I think I got some of that, but not all. I was glad to see Edge retain tonight though he'll likely job now in Toronto so Cena can have the belt and promote The Marine. As far as Booker/Batista goes, man Batista has looked really crappy since he's gotten back. He almost had a Steiner moment tonight with the powerbomb.

2Gold, get this. I took a look on boxofficemojo.com and Chronicles of Riddick made 115 million worldwide (it cost 105 million). Poseidon has made 180 million worldwide with a 160 million budget. Neither has been a Pluto Nash level disaster. The 2004 Alamo however? Oh God. It made 25 million or so worldwide and cost 107 to make....that is a FLOP! Pluto Nash by the way made 7 million worldwide and cost 100 million.

Well, with Shelton he doesn't seem to have much in the way of mic skills or charisma, and that hurts him in terms of ascending to the next level. If you could take MVP's charisma and mesh that with Shelton's ability, you'd have something.

Thing is, I saw Masters last night on OVW and he's still doing the Masterlock Challenge and all that. Honestly, they need to just repackage him or release him. Put a mask on him and let people wonder who it is, then finally unmask him.

I am amazed anyone is trying to defend X Factor. Surely you guys are being ironic...there's no way anyone could legitimately like X Factor.

The Austin/Bret feud never flat out ended I don't think, it just ended up being a part of a bigger Austin vs. Hart Foundation feud. It segued into Austin vs. Owen. The flat out blowoff to the entire feud was Survivor Series 1997 where Austin came back from the injury and squashed Owen for the IC title. The last actual Austin/Bret interaction to me was the Raw show where Austin destroyed Bret's leg and attacked him in the ambulance.

Augusta, GA for ECW? What a weird, arbitrary place to have a PPV. You'd think they almost want the show to suck. That said, since it's ECW brand only it'll draw out whatever psycho rednecks that are into ECW in that area. Bringing in Ron Killings is a great idea, since TNA shits all over the guy. But why put him in a loser gimmick like a reformed Too Cool or even worse another X Factor? Why not let him be a hard edged rapper character and let him either team or feud with John Cena? They kinda have to do it if they sign him. At least I would think so.

Here is a question, and I'll assume that these polls aren't being rigged (which might be a big assumption. Why exactly is anyone anticipating the McMahons vs. DX? It won't be much as a match and we all just know Vince and Shane have to get their asses kicked.

Yeah I was surprised that the theater didn't really have very many people either when I went today. It was a 1:35 matinee though. Get this: I think a guy had a heart attack in the theater. His wife and son were begging the usher to call for an ambulance. I guess SOAP is too intense for some. As far as the movie goes, I laughed my ass off at it and generally had a good time. Not too many laughs from most of the theater though. Do people not understand these cheesy movies anymore? Here is one thing that kinda bothered me about the ending:

I don't see why they couldn't have put UT/Khali on the PPV now. I thought that was a shockingly good match and likely is better than a couple of the matches on the PPV itself (DX/McMahons, Hogan/Orton). As long as I don't take this Rey/Chavo thing seriously SD is a very good show. It's at least a breath of fresh air compared to the tired nostalgia show/variety show that Raw has become.

Yeah but the only point of doing the Christian heel turn is to turn him and also job Sting out to Jarrett in a way that doesn't hurt him. Then set up the obligatory Sting/Christian feud. Right now Sting is like "Fuck Christian, I don't care about him. I still want Jarrett and the title." I guess that attitude is refreshing in some ways, but it's just not how booking is done. It's supposed to go "Okay Jarrett, I am going to kick Christian's ass now but I'll be back soon for the title." Bobby Roode is a nobody. As I said in another thread, he was something like the 4th most talented guy in Team Canada behind Williams, Young, maybe even Devine.
-
Yeah but I think they even know that the whole Edge deal was a dumbshit move. Besides there were other factors like HHH and WM to consider there....where is there to go on SD? I'm not too excited about the idea of a Tatanka heel turn. Maybe it's because I recall his SS 1994 heel turn on Lex Luger. It pretty much killed his career.

I can't see Booker losing the belt to Batista at SS. It seems like he just won it, and let's be honest about Batista....the guy hasn't been all that over since his return. It's kind of like once Mark Henry got hurt it deflated the crowd for Batista, and he struggled somewhat in a feud with a guy who has also lost momentum in Ken Kennedy. Then there's the whole embarrassing outing on ECW. In short there's really no good reason to put the belt on Batista at the moment. If so, where do they go with it? Aside from Booker getting a rematch there's really nothing much in the way of challengers for Batista.

I don't think will have the enduring popularity of Road House though, but maybe I'm wrong. Road House works a gray area where its target audience of redneck trash can watch it and take it seriously, while everyone else can watch it for the cheese factor. My birthday is on Sunday. I'll probably go see this.

I remember a Led Zeppelin tribute album about 10 years ago and I thought the Hootie and the Blowfish cover of Hey, Hey, What Can I Say was better than the original. As was STP's version of Dancing Days. Sheryl Crow's D'Yer Mak'er was awful however. I think I feel this way mainly because I have never much cared for Robert Plant's voice. I think Juice Newton's version of Angel of the Morning is better than Merilee Rush's version. I'm amazed anyone would say Metallica's lousy cover of Sabbra Cadabra. But then again I think most Sabbath covers are hideous, including the covers Ozzy himself has done with others.

Well, AMW could have added something to either Raw or SD's tag division at the time....but good grief how could they not sign Abyss? They bring in dipshits like the fake Kane and Great Khali, yet pass on an actually good worker who could have a money drawing feud with UT or Kane? Make way for the Taker's crazy cousin Abyss!

I've thought Chris Harris had singles superstar all over him for a while now. He strikes me as a combo of Edge and Bret Hart in terms of look. He can move in the ring too. Just needs to improve his mic work a bit. Wonder why some of these TNA guys who have been there forever don't try to go to WWE?

My brother told me the other day that the guy who might end Joe's streak is Bobby Roode. I thought that was the most idiotic shit I've heard in months. Roode is like the 4th most talented guy out of Team Canada for crying out loud. What does it say about Roode when he had that handicapped match with Rhino and the portions with Scott D'Amore and Rhino were BETTER than when he was in the match? FroGG, the notion of Jarrett as a parody of himself is one reason I don't actually mind his absurd screwjob wins in the main event. He's such a weak champion that it's amusing...hell he's not even a proactive cheater! He won the title with Larry Z. and Hebner screwing everyone, not due to his own cheating. He retained over Sting due to a Christian heel turn. Hell, if Jarrett would at least do some cheating for himself people would get off his case, haha. Not only can Jarrett not beat any major star without ludicrous screwjobs, but he can't even beat non contenders. What kind of heel champ can't beat ANYBODY at all without copious cheating for his faction or people doing heel turns? Flair at the height of the 4 Horsemen could beat some guys without blatant run ins. HHH has beaten a bunch of guys clean as a heel. Jarrett would need Steiner running in, a ref bump, and a heel turn to beat Taka Michinoku.

As I said, RVD and Sabu are better off being tag partners than being opponents. Going against one another they tend to do the exact ultra difficult and insane spots you saw last night. It's watching one guy who does crazy spots against another guy doing crazy spots.
-
Dear God, can you imagine what this would have been like with an injured, deteriorated Angle involved? Someone would have gotten seriously fucked up tonight. What the hell, throw in the returning Jeff Hardy and do a sequel to Monster's Ball from the TNA PPV. I don't mind blown spots in matches like these, because it's like a demolition derby. Where else in the year 2006 are you gonna see this kinda crazy shit? I'll take it over anything on Raw last night.
-
Well, after tonight I'm almost thinking RVD does show up at SS on Sunday and will cost Big Show the title against Sabu. Hopefully that match is at least extreme because I have no clue why you'd book an ECW title match on a Big 4 PPV without it being violent. Big Show having the title till Dec. for that PPV is a decent idea in theory, until you look at the fact that the BIG SHOW will have a world title till Dec. Five months is roughly one month longer than Wight has ever been able to hold anyone's attention as champion (his longest run was 4 months in WCW circa 1996). What the hell, this show was fun as hell tonight. The main event was a riotous match with an original finish to say the least. Who didn't think it was hysterical to see Sabu eating the contract? I have to admit I saw at least a couple of things I've never seen before in that match: --RVD leaping for the contract from the top rope. Really weird. --RVD monkey flipping the LADDER onto Sabu, a spot that cracked me up to no end. --Obviously the finish with Sabu on Show's shoulders retrieving the contract, then eating it. If they actually void the match at SS due to Sabu eating the contract I'll laugh my ass off, since it'd make total sense.

Just wondering but why are they going back to Orton/HHH anyway? Like that feud produced such great results in 2004/05. That said, I figure Harry will get some kind of win in the feud to establish him, but Orton eventually gets the last laugh if he's moving on to HHH.
-
There can't be any way this goes off as planned. Or maybe I can see Joe getting a shot before BFG, either at No Surrender or at the TNA prime time special. Seriously, I find most of these Jarrett antics amusing since I look at him in almost a spoof sort of way. As in he's parodying what a serious heel would do. But there is no way they can justify keeping the belt on him past BFG given his total lack of positive heat.
-
I've said it a few times on here before, but Orton is the definition of a guy who would have been released 10 years ago. The way he was buried and jobbed in major feuds is like the way Nash was jobbed out before he left in 1996. After they've done this and jobbed him out for various reasons....what can you really do with him? Regardless of whether he wins the Hogan match or not there are simply guys they won't sacrifice to get Orton over. HHH is going to want the belt back at some point, so he's going to go over Orton en route to an Edge feud. I also doubt they will want to job Cena out to Orton, since Cena would be coming off of a loss to Edge in that feud. I also heard they might go with Orton/Smith at Unforgiven. I dunno what to think of that match, mainly because I have yet to see young Harry in action.

It's just weird. They used to get on WCW's case for having a bunch of old guys, but at least that stuff was a part of the main roster. At this point Raw has become this bizarre environment where 80% of the show is "retired legend vs. should be retired legend" or "old legend vs. young punk." You can do a properly built Hogan feud once in a while, but not so much when you've got Flair and Foley in an old guy feud, as well as Vince dicking around with DX. It's almost as if years of ill fated pushes for green OVW guys has finally caught up with them and the only guys that are still over are the old bastards. And by the way, what the fuck is Hacksaw Jim Duggan doing on my TV in the year 2006? Seeing him once was tedious but I could bear it. But why are they bringing him back on a seemingly semi regular basis?
