    WWECW Report Fitchburg, MA

I can't really imagine it being more vicious than that Philly crowd. The Hammerstein PPV audience wasn't enormously vicious to people not named Orton or Cena.

    Box Office Weekend Numbers

Honestly I thought that the kid's ailments in Superman Returns were phony, stuff that Lois had him do to make him seem the furthest from the truth. I'm still not sure how the kid has any sort of powers though. Superman Returns was good (in fact I prefer it to POTC: DMC) but it really doesn't offer anything we haven't seen before. How many times do we need to see Lex Luthor try to wreck the world only to have Superman thwart him?

    Miami Vice

Curry, I can't say I share this much of your enthusiasm. It was at best maybe a **1/2 movie, maybe worse than that if you're a fan of the show. The whole first half of the film was extremely dull (I had to fight to stay awake and that rarely happens). I've noticed a strange trend in Mann movies where he doesn't explain enough shit. Sure, going in I'd think most people have some working knowledge of Crockett and Tubbs, but I'd have liked if they gave a run down of the rest of the cops. I didn't even realize these were the same actual characters until checking imdb.com, since I don't recall anyone's name being mentioned aside from Trudy. And with Trudy I then had to strain to recall if she and Tubbs were ever dating on the TV show. I agree on some of the good stuff though. The new Gina had the best moment in the entire film with the trailer scene, which also drew a round of applause at my theater. Ditto the finale with Tubbs being a bad man. I missed stuff like Elvis the alligator on Crockett's boat though. It added humor and also humanized the character. To me, this film wasn't a huge debacle but also not really one of Mann's better works. It's a curio for fans of the show, who will then want to go home and watch the box set for Season 1.

    Scorsese's THE DEPARTED

I saw the trailer for this before Miami Vice yesterday. It looked really good I thought, awesome cast.

So do I. I just got through watching all the cartoons tonight. I think disc 2 is a bit better than disc 1 of those. Disc 1 is a bit more pointless and pointlessness is hard to do unless you're Beavis and Butthead.

I thought it was amusing that J and SB were still selling drugs despite having the royalty money from the comic and movie. Guess they were just keeping their hand in, huh? I don't think Smith can make "real movies" at this point. He's too entrenched in his little film world to the point where it's tough to do anything else.

OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread for 7/25 (Week 7)

Raw did a 3.8, that doesn't seem too bad really. And I actually can see why HHH, Vince, and Shane not being there might knock it down a bit. I'll have to see the DQ stuff go anywhere to believe it. They aren't really hyping it that much from a storyline standpoint.

OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread for 7/25 (Week 7)

Yeah but if he came back a week earlier that would be just 28 days, and thus not the 30 days for which he was suspended. Not everyone can be Orton and be brought back a week early, you know.

OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread for 7/25 (Week 7)

I have the feeling that Sabu will end up being a sacrificial lamb to the Big Show when all is said and done. Maybe RVD comes back as well and then they do the blowoff to Show/RVD at SS. This isn't exactly a feud I want to see drawn out until that ECW PPV in Dec. I mean it's kinda weird seeing the heel Big Show take on all comers (Flair, UT, Kane). It makes more sense to have a face like RVD with the belt and Heyman throws everyone he can think of at him.

    LAX the Next NWO?

Konnan lost an arm wrestling match to Bullet Bob Armstrong. I am supposed to take his lame heel faction seriously? Homicide and Hernandez may well be talented guys, but seriously....it's Konnan in the year 2006.

    Clerks II Offcial Thread

Though I already saw this at the theater I am considering going again, since the sound kept going in and out and the theater ended up giving me 2 free tickets for whenever I want. In the meantime I might watch Clerks and Mallrats, have a mini Kevin Smith fest.

OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread for 7/25 (Week 7)

One problem with this is that Sabu has never been the sort who can be a long term champion. I mean his ECW title runs were both pretty short (hell the one was only a week after the Funk barbed wire match). ECW is such a frustrating show. I mean on one hand I thought Show/Kane was easily their best match ever. I also really dig Heyman being terrified of Show facing Sabu, which puts Sabu over big time. But my god this shit with DQs on ECW has to stop like yesterday. It wasn't so bad in the Sandman/Knox match since that at least set something up, but why the hell was there a DQ in Balls/Credible? Is it now Justin's gimmick that he only picks up these lame DQ wins? What sucks is that I LOATHE Justin Credible and actively want Sabu or Balls Mahoney to kill his ass.

OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread for 7/25 (Week 7)

The goofy thing is that it's not like Show is some sort of serious longterm champ. Once RVD comes back they'll probably just have him beat Show at SS. I personally think all these guest stars of the week are there for filler till RVD gets back, since lord knows they haven't hyped anyone on ECW's actual roster. They could go with Sabu, but maybe don't want to have him job out to Show this early.
  14. Fear Havoc has an interesting point. Is this Khali liver situation so bad that he can't come in and wrestle his scheduled match, get "killed" off, and then be sent packing? Ditto Lashley...is his liver deal so important that he can't wrestle ONE more match on the PPV before being written out for a while?

Lashley and Khali removed from GAB PPV

Yeah but you'd think they would have designed a cage or something already with this match and PPV in mind. It'd be a total waste of money to not at least use the cage.

Lashley and Khali removed from GAB PPV

I have yet to hear anything official on it, since wwe.com still lists Khali the last I checked. Maybe he'll be killed off before the match? That'd set a new UT record for this PPV, killing someone BEFORE his actual match.

I wonder if porch monkey is more of a northeast slur? Here in Louisville we more or less go with the standard terms that Randal also tossed out. That might be why there isn't any controversy over it being used in the movie. It might not be a nationally known term and since Randal kept assuring them he didn't mean anything racist by it the watchdogs don't really care.

    Clerks II Offcial Thread

Smues, I am with you. I have never heard of a porch monkey either, but my god that was funny in the movie. Get this, I saw this at the lame Dixie Dozen theater and the sound kept going in and out. Then at one point the picture went out totally. Ended up getting free tickets out of it and eventually they fixed the picture and sound. Anyway the movie was awesome. I loved it. Found it hilariously funny and also surprisingly touching near the end. The ending was spot on perfect right down to the Soul Asylum music. The soundtrack itself was excellent too, well aside from the goofy Silence of the Lambs song.

Lashley and Khali removed from GAB PPV

No, this stuff now doesn't touch WCW Souled Out 2000. Nothing can ever touch that. As stated above that whole debacle included: --A world champion (Bret) and US champ (Jarrett) both being injured and unable to defend. --The main booker, Vince Russo, is banished for wanting to put the title on Tank Abbott in a battle royale. --Kevin Sullivan is made head booker and half the roster riots. The guy they put the vacant title on (Benoit) QUITS the company and demands his release, as well as Eddie, Malenko, and Saturn. Yeah, this GAB is an injury plagued debacle but what exactly is being hurt here? Lashley no longer has the US title and he'll likely be back soon, thus Regal and Finlay will have a kick ass singles match. Big Show/UT is a better match than Khali/UT. For this to be Souled Out 2000 level we'd also need Rey to be hurt in a career ending moment, then do a match with Booker/Batista and then Batista wins the title and decides "Fuck it, I'm going to TNA." Then Finlay, Regal, and Booker all agree with him and want releases as well.

"Lady in the Water" reviews & thoughts

You know, back when The Village came out I said that Shyamalan was a carnival con man with a sense of self importance. The major problem he has is that he simply cannot tell a story without resorting to a crutch like The big problem with The Village is that the big shock plays itself out over such a long period of time that there is no suspense. And the scenes that are effective like are actively sabotaged by the fact that we already know the truth! I might go see this at some point but I really run hot and cold on M. Night's efforts. I must be one of the few here who really enjoyed Signs, though I found it much more effective in the theater where tiny bits of business like a dog barking can cause a chill (whereas it's a ho hum scene at home). Unbreakable was pretty decent mainly because it wasn't so hyped that I already knew the ending, though it kinda runs out of steam before the twist. In fact I think Sixth Sense is easily his lamest movie. It's a one trick pony. Once you know the "shock" ending you can't watch the movie again and give a shit, which is ironic given the kind of repeat business it did.

HEATH LEDGER CAST AS THE JOKER!!!

Someone mentioned Weaving but I think he would be better as Two Face. I gotta say this: I think doing the Joker again at all is a big mistake. There is no one who is going to touch Nicholson. No one will be as well liked in the role, at least not in a live action film (Hamill's cartoon voice work is awesome). Why not do a totally new villain, or at least do a villain that was fucked up before and do him right? That's why Two Face is a better idea. He wasn't done well in Batman Forever and he's still a big enough name. I might also suggest doing a movie with Bane as the villain.
  22. Yeah I don't think that meant anything. At the moment I don't really mind the Raw or SD guest star of the week stuff, but if they are still doing this 3 months from now then I'll be upset. I think they are just doing it at the moment because guys like RVD and Angle are absent. Once the trial run is over and ECW is picked up (which I'd say is all but a lock at this point) then I'd expect the cross promoting to wane and ECW will develop its own main event scene. At least I would hope so.

Lashley and Khali removed from GAB PPV

Nah, as thin as this PPV lineup is they will have to devote a serious amount of time to the US title match. I bet Booker is now sweating. Since I bet he's getting the title I doubt he wants to complete the trifecta of hurt black dudes on SD.

    5 Star Tag Matches

It's very hard for a tag match to be 5 stars and I'll tell you why. Too many tag matches fall into the typical "Face in peril with a heel beatdown, ref misses tag, hot tag, go to the finish" formula. Maybe this is different in Japan, but in the US that is the style.

    *Smackdown Spoilers*

I think they should do Batista vs. UT at some point. How about that at WM? It's really the only thing SD has that could be a big money match. Rey/Batista? Bah. Would anyone give Rey a chance after the way he's been booked this year?
