If Bret stayed in the wwf in 97,,

Honestly, Bret wouldn't have lasted much beyond WM 14 even if he had stayed. The only reason to keep him around that long would be to have a WM rematch with Austin and truly put Austin over and job the belt. But if he's there where do you put Shawn on the show? I figure Bret wouldn't have had much left to do beyond WM in 98, since he likely wouldn't get the title back, and Vince would have had no problems simply releasing Bret and getting out of the contract (and with no competition Bischoff could have scooped Bret up for less money too). By 1998 Bret would have seemed like an out of touch relic in the WWF, almost like Backlund circa 1994. The tension of Bret initially being out of touch in 97 created some excellent drama, but by 98 the forces of Attitude had clearly won out and Bret was anachronistic.
  2. Which is why he wouldn't end the streak. UT can get his one last title run, keep his streak intact, and then Batista can regain in a rematch or wherever you wanna go with it. As far as Edge goes, ha! Edge's heat is so far gone at this point it's not even funny. No one would remotely give him a shot at winning the title now. They might as well have him cash in the MITB at the Rumble or on a Raw before WM and quietly job him out. Either that or if he's hurt strip him of the MITB and put it up for grabs at WM again.

    King Kong

Narcoleptic, I'm telling you the Hayes/Kid stuff in the film is WAY too similar to the Mifune/Kid stuff in the last Matrix movie. Yeah, it's probably better but is any sort of comparison to Matrix Revolutions ever a good thing? Also, it's beyond any feasibility that in 1933 they would have a black first mate ordering the white guys around, discussing his military training (I'm assuming WWI here, but was the military integrated?). I do agree there was something strange about Black's reading of the famous final line. In the original Denham is quite saddened by Kong's death and believes what he's saying, but here Black says it with such a goofy, wide eyed look of a madman that it fell sorta...flat? Here it seemed like a cliche Denham would put in one of his movies, no actual sadness behind it. I'd actually recommend Son of Kong mildly if for no other reason than some decent Denham character development, where he's saddened by all the chaos he's caused, being sued by everyone in NYC, about to be indicted, and so on and thus helps Kong Jr. out on the island.

    NFL Week XVI

Yeah but the thing is, are the Cowboys actually eliminated? I mean I thought that if they win and Carolina loses next week then they get in the playoffs along with the Skins, Giants, Bucs, Bears, and Seahawks. The odd thing about the Cowboys is that they could very well beat any of the other playoff teams in the NFC. When can you say that about a #6 type seed?
  5. As I said in the Armageddon thread, Batista/UT has a lot more appeal to it than Batista/Randy in the "Randy gets the job back to have a heatless title run" match. Orton, after his loss in HIAC, has no real credibility to main event WM. He just doesn't. If they try it, it's doomed to miserable failure. UT/Batista however? All sorts of intrigue there. Batista is due to lose the title. UT is due for a loss at WM. Can UT get that one last title run? That's a match personally that I wanted to see back at SS instead of the neverending crap with Bradshaw vs. Batista. I think UT wins the match though. You can have Batista regain or go back to the Orton/UT program after WM, whereas if Batista beats UT he's left as champ with no serious challengers on the horizon.

    NFL Week XVI

Two teams today had really, really crushing losses. The first would be the Panthers of course, who I think may have seriously wrecked their chances of making the playoffs. Next week Dallas gets the Rams at home (which they should win) and the Skins are on a roll and should take out the Eagles. Carolina has a tough one against Atlanta on the road and they'll want to salvage something of this season by knocking Carolina out of contention. The 2nd would be the Bengals, who on the surface had a silly meltdown against the Bills today but in the grand scheme this may really hurt them badly. Before this they were alive for the #2 seed and a first round bye...but now? They'll likely lose at KC next week, while the Pats finish 11-5 as well, and the Pats get that #3 seed. Then the Bengals probably get the Colts in the 2nd round. That's IF they get past the Jags the 1st round, who they already lost to.

Meatwad, I kinda know what you mean. Jackson has this hard on for using slo mo at any possible opportunity. I loved The Two Towers but one moment that always struck me as odd was the ultra serious slow motion death of that one Elf dude at Helm's Deep. Yeah, he brought the elves...why else should I give THIS much of a shit about him to where he deserves a slow motion death? Hell, in the theater I remember people were like "Oh shit, did Legolas just die???"

If Bret stayed in the wwf in 97,,

I think they would have done the same stuff, but I don't necessarily think it would have worked as well. A lot of people got into the WWF right after the Montreal Screwjob, it was a landmark moment. Without that I'm not sure when or if they would have passed WCW.

    NFL Week XV

Maybe it's a bit soon yet but here's the thread, with my predictions: Saturday: Tampa Bay at New England. I'm not sure on this due to Brady's possible injury, but I do think that the Bucs have a real shot here. Pats have looked good the past couple weeks but it was against the dregs of the AFC. I'll take the Bucs in a minor upset by 7, though their futility in freezing weather worries me. Kansas City at NY Giants. Another good matchup, and both teams need it. When in doubt go with the home team, so I'll take the G-Men by 5. Denver at Buffalo. Denver looked mediocre last week but the Bills looked hideous. I think the Broncos will win here but won't cover the 9. Sunday: Pittsburgh at Minnesota. Okay guys, the fun is over. Time to start jobbing. Steelers by 10. San Diego at Indianapolis. I think Dungy will play his guys the whole game, and if so the Chargers are screwed. Indy by 14, something like 38-24. San Francisco at Jacksonville. Bleh. Jags should win here but I doubt they remotely will cover that 15. Jags by maybe 10. Seattle at Tennessee. I am amazed that the Seahawks are only favored here by 7. If I was a betting man I'd lay some down on this one. Seahawks by 3 TDs easy. Arizona at Houston. Dear God. Do we doubt the Texans lose here by about 3 again? NY Jets at Miami. The Jets are crap and Miami seems to be doing well right now. Dolphins keep it mildly interesting in the AFC East and win by 10. Carolina at New Orleans. Surely the Panthers won't lose AGAIN to the Saints...right? Carolina by 14. Dallas at Washington. Pretty much a must win for the Cowboys and they'll wanna avenge that fluke loss. Cowboys by 7. Cincinnati at Detroit. Bengals might well struggle again here but should still win by double digits over the crappy Lions. Cleveland at Oakland. I have no idea, dreadful game. I'll go with the Browns since Charlie Frye has been pretty decent so far. Browns by 4. Philadelphia at St. Louis. Who knows? Both teams are tanking, but somehow I think the Rams can score enough at home to beat the Eagles. Rams by 7. Atlanta at Chicago. Very interesting game. Atlanta really, really needs this one to stay alive, and the Bears haven't stopped the run as well lately. Falcons by 3 in a nailbiter. Monday: Green Bay at Baltimore. Somehow I think the Packers will win this one....who would YOU take between Favre and Boller? Pack by 6.

    Christy Hemme is

I'm pretty sure Steph gave up the asshole well before they were married. At least if you believe a HHH interview on Howard Stern from a few years ago. Or was it Steph that did the interview? Either way, I'm pretty sure anal sex was mentioned.

    College Hoops: December

OU is a lot like UK. They can be a physical team, a tough team, but not a particularly skilled team in terms of shooting. I figured WVU would beat them, though not by THAT much. The question this brings up is how bad is the Big 12 this year? Going in Texas and Oklahoma were supposed to carry the conf. but those teams have gotten beaten bloody in the non conf. schedule. Kansas is too young, TX Tech is doing shitty too. Right now OK St. might win the conf. by default for being the least inept. I'm actually going to the UK/Iona game at Freedom Hall tomorrow night. It'll be fun, first UK game I've ever been to actually (this being UK's annual 1 shot at Freedom Hall vs. some jobber). Iona is actually undefeated right now, so this could be tougher than expected.

Actually the Rambo where he fights rednecks was the original First Blood. In part 2 he fights the Vietnamese and some Russians (WTF?) and in part 3 he's in Afghanistan.

Oh no, I wasn't insinuating that Miami could go to the playoffs, I just meant they could finish above .500. Hypothetically who gets in the playoffs if Jacksonville and San Diego both finish 11-5? I was thinking last night....even if the Pats win that 1st round would they necessarily play the Colts? I'd think if Pittsburgh (or whoever that 6th seed is) beat the Bengals (I'm assuming #3 seed) then the Steelers play the Colts, right? And the Pats play the Broncos? Basically we'll likely end up with two ultra stale playoff scenarios: Colts vs. Pats, then Colts vs. Broncos. I'm almost hoping for Colts vs. Jags, then Colts/Bengals. It'd be different at least.

    Best/Favorite Games of 2005

--How could anyone forget U of L vs. West Virginia in the Elite 8? Better than UK/MSU or Zona/Illini (and yes part of that is cause my team won). --Speaking of U of L/WVU, how about the 3 OT football epic as well? It was on at the same time as USC/ND though so no one watched. --USC and ND of course, though the wrong team won here in my view. --Speaking of awesome U of L games, how about the C-USA finals vs. Memphis? Darius Washington missing the FT at the end is one of the indelible moments in college hoops. --And as a tie, both the UK/MSU game and the Zona/IL game. Oh and my brother just reminded me: Wake Forest vs. WVU in the 2nd round, 2 OTs and it was 111-105.

    Better wrestler poll

Carnival pretty much hit the nail on the head re: Daniels. He's just...a guy to me. For instance in the 3 way with AJ and Joe he was by far the least interesting to me. Maybe I've never much cared about him due to not liking his gimmick much, or the collar he sometimes wears. It's hard to fully explain, but he never quite looked right to me somehow. Like his neck is too big, something isn't proportioned right, just something that would justify Vince never signing the guy. Know what I mean?
  16. Scuba, just wondering but why those matches? I mean Shelton is being jobbed out hard, he's certainly in no position to challenge for the title. Batista/UT is a good idea, title vs. streak. But Orton/Benoit? No thanks, I've seen enough of Benoit jobbing to Orton. Booker/Chavo has no appeal to me, HHH and Angle have fought 1000 times, and Shawn could have a more interesting match with someone besides Show. I'd like to see another Money in the Bank actually, maybe Cena/Hogan with Cena turning heel. Maybe Van Dam against Angle or Shawn?

    NFL Week XVI

The Bucs can be decent enough on a good day, but they can in fact seriously suck ass. I mean this team did lose to the Jets and Niners this year, not to mention they got beat down by about 20 at home by Carolina (then BEAT Carolina in the rematch, go fig). Suffice to say they are up and down. With Chris Simms and their notorious futility in any kind of cold weather below 40, the Pats spanking them was likely. The only thing preventing me from thinking Miami has a shot is that it could be very cold weather in NE. They have actually been playing well of late.

    Better wrestler poll

I must be one of the few who voted for Angle. Daniels is one of those guys who has never done "it" for me. Maybe it's a first impression type deal and I remember that WCW 2000 match he had with Mike Modest where they both blew spots left and right. I've seen Daniels in some excellent tag matches vs. AMW, I've seen him in some 3 way X division matches I liked, but I can't think of a particular singles match with him that I thought was amazing. I haven't seen all of his work however.

    NFL Week XVI

OK here are the predictions: Buffalo vs. Cincinnati: This should be an assbeating. Cincy by 20. Tennessee vs. Miami: The Dolphins can finish .500 with a win here, I think they can do it. Miami by 7. Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland: Steelers cannot possibly afford to lose this (well if the Chargers lose they might but..). Browns will play them tough in the rivalry game, but Steelers should win by 6 or so. San Diego vs. Kansas City: I think the Chiefs might well be done after that hideous outing in NY. Chargers could be on a roll now, so I think they can get a win here by about 10. Won't matter most likely. NY Giants vs. Washington: Skins were great last week, but I'll have to see Chris Cooley score 3 times again to believe it. Giants by 7 to wrap up the division. Dallas vs. Carolina: Cowboys are so finished. If Carolina loses this one it speaks volumes about their chances. Panthers by 14. Detroit vs. New Orleans: Oh God. I have no idea, two jobbers here. I'll go with the Saints here by about 3. Atlanta vs. Tampa Bay: I have no idea on this one either, both teams got smacked last week. I'll go with the Bucs at home by 7. San Francisco vs. St. Louis: Surely the Rams won't lose TWICE to the hapless Niners. Rams by 10. Jacksonville vs. Houston: This was one a few weeks ago I had earmarked as an upset. Jags can afford to lose it really, since they'd still have a tiebreaker over the Steelers. What the hell, Houston by 3 in a somewhat major upset. Philadelphia vs. Arizona: Which jobber is the best? I'll go with the Eagles and Mike McMahon by about 3 in a tough game. Oakland vs. Denver: Surely the Broncos won't tank this one with the division title on the line. Broncos by 17. Indianapolis vs. Seattle: In theory this should be an epic, but the Colts have things wrapped up and might rest people. Thus, Seattle should wrap up home field here in a meaningless game. Seattle by 10. Chicago vs. Green Bay: The Pack is finished at this point. Bears are looking very solid, at least on D. Chicago by 10, something like 17-7. Minnesota vs. Baltimore: Ravens looked good on Monday beating the Packers badly, so I'll take them here in a mild upset. Baltimore by 9. New England vs. NY Jets: Ah, the parade of jobbers continues for the Pats. NE by about 15. They might lose to the Dolphins the last week though (resting people?).

The Spirit Squad (Ken Doane) - Coming to RAW?

I don't really see them bringing Sosay up with him. She's decent enough looking for some chick on OVW, but I dunno if she's hot enough (or has fake enough tits) for Vince. Still, I remember Jillian when she was on OVW and it's like seeing a totally different person now due to the plastic surgery.

Dude, I can practically guarrantee you guys I could bust through that ROH copyguard with ease. I have DVD Shrink, it'll remove the copy protection. So if anyone's got some ROH goodness with Joe by all means PM me and we can arrange something.

    Shelton Benjamin

It's gotta be RVD as the answer here. The jury is still out to some degree on Shelton, and to be honest he's never been all that over or connected with the crowd. The others listed here like Jericho, Taz, DDP, and so on have at least had some sort of run on top of a promotion. RVD didn't even get his much deserved run on top in ECW.

The Spirit Squad (Ken Doane) - Coming to RAW?

This is one of the dumbest fucking things I've heard in a long time. Doane is a great asshole heel on OVW and should simply translate that character to WWE. He'd need to drop the RKO as his finisher and get something else of course, but otherwise he's fine as is.

    King Kong

You know, I watched the old Kong on DVD some the other day and slow motioned the nipple slip scene and I really never saw anything. I've even seen the pics of it too, but couldn't catch it on DVD. Anyway I saw the old Kong at a revival at Baxter Avenue theaters in 1998, it's the closest thing to an art house theater in Louisville. They also showed The Big Sleep that same year and Forbidden Planet later on as well. The Palace also has a Classic Movie Series, but it's sliding downhill in my view. I mean last year they had Jurassic Park on it. I mean WTF? That's hardly an old film that I'd consider "classic" just yet. I kinda regret not seeing Gold Diggers of 1935 at the Palace when it first reopened....if it'd been GD of 1933 instead I would have gone.

Hell, even if it was upper 30s that is still too cold for the Bucs. Aren't they like 2-100 lifetime when it's below 40 degrees? Add in Chris Simms and you had to figure they'd get killed. Besides, this team lost to the Jets and Niners this year, so you have to wonder about how good they really are. Look, it needs to be said right now: The Patriots aren't going to the Super Bowl. I'd like to know how in the hell they are going to beat Jacksonville (at home), then the Colts on the road, and then the winner of Cincy/Denver most likely, also on the road. I mean shit I have them losing the first round to Jacksonville, who unlike the Bucs won't be as crappy in cold weather. If they beat Jacksonville it'll be on some Vinatieri FG in the last 2:00. Then the next week--if they advance--the Colts would surely beat their asses.
