    College Hoops: December

I'll put it this way, Iggy. Without Redick I think Duke could have Sheldon Williams carry them and maybe give some more shots to Melchionni or Paulus, or whoever. Without Morrison Gonzaga couldn't win A GAME.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more said about this, but my god does UK ever SUCK. I mean they are just putrid, revolting, all kinds of bad. 53 fucking points? Hell, they had maybe 29 with 5 mins. left and had to go on a wild run to get to that 53! I'm worried now. U of L hasn't really had a tough game or even a road game yet, but next week we go to Rupp. It's a no win situation right now, considering UK is ultra shitty and U of L will be #4 and expected to roll them. A win won't impress anyone, but if we lose it'll be humiliating.

I really, really wish I hadn't made that Texas prediction, haha. Dear God they got exposed big time out there today. That said, if you look at it Redick and Williams had most of Duke's points, so my theory on them is still realistic. It's just finding a team that can shut down Redick or Williams. Maybe someone should just goon Redick? Hell, I'd do it rather than let him go for 40 on me. Oh, and U of L finally squashed a jobber today! We beat Akron 111-85. With Texas embarrassing themselves today U of L is now going to be....#4???

As someone astutely observed, isn't the actual point of this UT/Orton feud to get Orton over as a serious main eventer? How the hell they think this feud is getting him over is beyond me. Much like with Justin Credible in ECW, I can see WWE just has a hard on for this guy and will put the title on him again despite there being zero chance that it could actually work. I wonder, how much does it take for them to finally give up on someone? I mean if they have Orton be the sole survivor 3 years running, beat UT in HIAC, win the Royal Rumble, and then win the title at WM and the guy STILL has no heat, would they finally get the picture?

    Gary Barnett out at Colorado

I was amazed that Gary Barnett kept his job as long as he did. I mean hell, I'm bewildered as to how Rich Brooks still has a job at UK but his biggest crime is taking over a probation riddled program and having shitty teams. Gary Barnett? This guy should have been fired, then rehired, and then fired again just to make sure he got the point. Didn't the university president step down, the AD step down too, and yet somehow this ass kept his job?

Yeah but when all is said and done I don't think the Pats will be remembered as one of the absolute all time teams, and it's mainly due to winning all sorts of boring 17-14 type games. I mean they won't ever be up there with the 49ers or the Cowboys, who just put assbeatings on teams (55-10 over Denver for the Niners, 52-17 for the Cowboys over Buffalo). Call me crazy but I think the Pats' destiny is to be the NFL version of the 1988-90 Detroit Pistons.

Paul Davis from MSU? Yeah he's a very solid, underrated big man. I had no doubts he'd hold his own vs. Sheldon. I have no idea why people thought MSU had little chance vs. Duke in the tourney last year (most had Syracuse over MSU in the 2nd round). Perhaps no one recalled MSU taking Duke to the buzzer at Cameron? As far as Taquan Dean goes, right now he's having to carry U of L singlehanded. It's weird too because on paper we should have SOMEONE else surely. Juan Palacios can be a very good player, David Padgett is supposed to be a solid big man...but right now neither is 100% I don't think. One thing that scares me about U of L is we actually have about 4 white dudes. Padgett, Gianiny, Current, and Millard. There's something really freaky about U of L having white guys, it's like a brave new world or something. Either that or we're the 1994 UK team, minus the gorgeous outside shooting of Travis Ford and Jeff Brassow.

    SummerSlam (name some good ones)

Anyone have a copy of SS 95 so I can check it out? All I've seen is the Ladder Match via the 24/7 online. It's a show that represents the height of my apathy towards wrestling, what with Mabel in the main event title match and all. I don't care what they do in the future, nothing is as bad as that (aside from maybe pushing Vis AGAIN). As far as my thoughts go on each show, here goes. Bear in mind I haven't seen some in years. 1988 was a fun show with some nice old school moments (the main event, HTM getting his ass finally kicked by the Warrior). 1989 has some really good action like Warrior/Rude, the Harts/Busters, and a nice 6 man. Main event with Zeus was crap of course. 1990...never much liked this show, not sure why. Main events are both bleh and aside from the fun tag title match there isn't much here that I remember liking. 1991 is one of my favorites. Hart/Perfect is one of my favorite matches and all the faces go over in glorious fashion (LOD winning the belts, Bossman kicks the Mountie's ass and sends him to jail). Classic. 1992: My feelings on this are posted above. My favorite show. 1993: I haven't seen this in about 12 years but I don't recall liking it much at the time. The main event was a gyp, and I just hate the booking of Bret/Lawler (the old DQ after the match is OVER finish). 1994: Fairly solid though not among my favorites. Bret/Owen is good, the IC match is fun, but UT vs. UT is flat out hideous. 1995: Haven't seen. 1996: This show sucks. Boiler Room Brawl has moments but is far too long, the Michaels/Vader match is not as good as it could have been, and the rest is trash. 1997: Lots of fun gimmick matches here but there isn't much that's any good on it unless you want to see Austin's neck broken, or maybe see Ken Shamrock go nuts. It has moments that flirt with greatness, but no actual great matches. 1998: Wonderful storylines and booking, but I seem to recall being underwhelmed by the actual wrestling on the show. I might need to watch again. 1999: I sorta liked it at the time, but it doesn't have much that requires multiple viewings nowdays. 2000: Lots of good matches here (TLC, Benoit/Jericho) but it isn't much more notable than lots of other PPVs from that year. 2001: Great show. Austin/Angle was excellent, Rock/Booker is decent, RVD/Jeff ladder was a fun spotfest. Only downside is Jericho blowing all of his spots vs. Rhino. 2002: Feelings on this one are above. Wrestling was good, booking and direction sucked. 2003: I have not seen but I have a feeling it sucks awful. 2004: Pretty forgettable really, though some are fonder of the Orton/Benoit match (not me though especially). 2005: I liked it pretty well. Main event was as good as it could hope to be and at least the faces went over in the right places.

Yeah I was about to say that if Batista is getting smaller it might well be due to his injury. I wonder, does him being injured exempt him from the steroid test since he could very well have a prescription to use them till he's healthy? Lighten up, guys. This UT stuff is just goofball fun. If I burst a blood vessel over every cheesy and bad Taker angle I'd be in the shape Orton's mind is in right now. The sad thing about Randy is that he's so disliked by even the heels on the roster that he couldn't find 10 jobbers to help him beat UT, even if he desperately wanted to.

Seattle also barely beat the Niners by 2 points due to a missed 2 pt. conversion...so who knows with them really? Here's the litmus test for how good a team is: Could they go on the road and beat the teams they are beating at home? Yeah, the Seahawks beat the Cowboys in Seattle but would they win that game in Dallas? I doubt it. I'm fairly sure that the Giants would beat them by at least 10 points at Giant Stadium, ditto Carolina (Carolina might beat them home or away really). I doubt Seattle could go to Soldier Field and win either. Hell, the Redskins are one of the few .500 teams the Seahawks played on the road and they lost that game. The Jags beat them soundly in Jacksonville as well.

    Iggy's (rough) College Basketball Rankings

Iggy, it saddens me to say it but U of L isn't worth a shit right now. I know we were FF last year and 4-0 thus far (playing nobody...and struggling with some of the nobodies). Truthfully I haven't seen anybody that screams "This is your title team" so far. Duke is very beatable, Texas can be beaten with a decent effort (WVU had them beat), UConn much the same too. Villanova has brilliant guards but I think a team with a really solid inside game and any sort of quality guards would take them down. As far as the rest of it, let's see: Michigan sucks, Vandy sucks, Georgetown will get trashed in the BE, Indiana St. just beat IU but isn't any good particularly. I feel dirty saying this, but Memphis is about the best team I've seen thus far.
  12. I love that Rob Roy fight scene. In fact Tim Roth in that (as Cunningham) is the best heel in film history. Really the only time where I felt if I even met the ACTOR on the street I'd want to kick his ass. Just a fucker. I mean that in a good way.

    SummerSlam (name some good ones)

Summerslam 95 did have Michaels/Razor Ladder II on it though. The rest is pretty crappy from what I can tell, though I've never actually SEEN the show and I've seen damn near every SS aside from that and 2003 (when we had a cable screwup). The best Summerslam is without a doubt 1992. The biggest crowd in WWF history at 80,000+ at Wembley Stadium, some really good stuff like Warrior/Macho and Michaels/Martel, and of course my favorite match ever in Bret/Bulldog. 2002? Yeah the wrestling itself was good but the overall company direction and booking was bullshit. Hell, Edge's ludicrous no selling of the shoulder vs. Eddie is enough alone to drop that show out of top 3 SSs ever.

    NFL Week XIV

Just wondering but why would the Jags be talking shit about the Colts? They are playing an unbeaten team while using their backup QB. Oh, and why exactly are the Seahawks this clear cut #2 team in the league? This is quite possibly the most lucky team I've seen since the 1999 Tennessee Titans. If Jay Feely simply kicks a 40 yard FG or Drew Bledsoe doesn't fuck up royally, we'd hear a lot less about the Seahawks.
  15. Lushus, well Orlando Jordan probably has a phantom finisher on a video game too. That doesn't mean he has one in reality. I mean honestly, how can a promotion be idiotic enough to put major titles on guys who have no discernable finisher??? I mean shit, if you're a wrestler you gotta have a main move! Without one the matches have no basic psychology of "Gee, I better avoid that lethal move." Watch a Carlito match...they build to nothing. He has no finisher. Even as boring as Orton's matches are with his headlocks and crap, it at least can be rationalized that he's wearing down the head and neck for the RKO. Every wrestler has to have 2 basic things to get over: A good ring name and a good finisher.
  16. No, he does NOT have a finisher. A finisher to me is defined as "A devastating move a wrestler uses to finish off his opponent and win a match." Does Carlito have anything that resembles that? And yes, I know he's done the Roll of the Dice a couple of times (against Foley on the floor, against Rey in the Smackdown sneak attack) but to my knowledge he's never won any notable match with it. The amusing thing is that in the recent Michaels match they did a finisher reversal sequence out of that Roll of the Dice move, but the crowd had no clue since he's never actually WON A MATCH with it.

12/3 Ratings and a surprise at TP

I checked out that Dixie Carter pic and info and I liked the trivia listed: "While residing in Hackberry Creek Apartments in Las Colinas, Dallas, Texas in 1986, Carter lived next door to her future business associate Jeff Jarrett." I think we all know Jarrett was banging the shit out of her back then. Hell, he might still be.

    Benoit to TNA?

I joined Rantsylvania in either late 1999 or early 2000, right around the first time I had net access at home. I'm pretty sure I was just Cabbageboy then too, it's been my ID forever. Think I'm getting stale? Mainly I used to post on the Rant Crew, in fact I was one of the net pioneers of HHH hate. Even in 2000 when the net was in love with the guy I used to rant on him not ever jobbing and how it was going to end up biting them in the ass. I also wrote some fun ECW rants on the crew as well, in fact I basically outlined what precisely it was they were doing wrong and what they needed to do to fix it. Wish I still had that but it's long gone now due to reformat my hard drive. And yes I remember that Tom the Actuary dude. He used to bust out crazy stats for everything, mainly with the idea of proving Shawn Michaels couldn't draw.

    WON questions

I will get it on a special occasion type deal, such as when the British Bulldog died or this past year right after the ECW PPV when he had all sorts of ECW stuff in an issue. A lot of it is focused on MMA, Japan, Mexico though, stuff I either haven't seen or am not interested in.

    NFL Week XIV

In regards to the Jags vs. Colts this week, keep in mind that the previous meeting Indy played about as bad on offense as they possibly could, putting up a season low 10 points (this was in that early stretch where the Colts couldn't score for some reason). It's hard for me to imagine JAX with David Garrard putting up enough points here. I'm thinking it'll be a 24-10 type game. I still don't really buy Seattle. And no, them beating the Colts on Christmas Eve would mean nothing since the Colts will likely be resting their starters by then. In fact I dare say that Seattle would win that game somewhat unimpressively, then maybe make the Super Bowl where the Colts would put a Niners/Chargers level beatdown on them.

Ah well, we'll see on that Moulds thing with Buffalo. As far as the Giants/Eagles game goes, I can't help but think that the Eagles will show up for it, but in the end it won't be enough.

    College Hoops: December

Duke's biggest problem is that they are still essentially a 2 man team. Do they even have anyone besides Redick and Williams that average double figures? I'd just double Redick and let Williams get his and take my chances on anyone else beating me. I think Texas will take Duke out this weekend, they just seem to have more weapons, and enough size inside to counter Williams.

    NFL Week XIII

I can't really fault Manning for that Titans loss though. Let's face it, after the Music City Miracle the previous week there was no way in hell the Titans were losing that game. In fact I dare say that without the Music City Miracle the Colts would have gotten to the Super Bowl that year, though I'm not sure if they would have beaten the Rams or not. Denver owns Indy in the regular season because Indy is usually resting starters or generally not giving a shit late in the season.

    NFL Week XIII

Seattle isn't at the point where I actively hate them, but they do sort of annoy me. I used to kinda like them back when they had the ultra pimp jerseys, but once they changed to their current look I stopped caring. The past couple of years Seattle annoyed me because they got hyped as being so great in the preseason and then come the reg. season they would tank. After tonight the Seahawks will be 10-2, but they aren't remotely a 10-2 caliber team, so in that respect I can see why Dama dislikes them. The Seahawks are a total 10-6 type team, but are getting those miracle bullshit plays much like the 2001 Bears.
