The OAO Raw Thread - Dec/5th/05

Here's one thing that makes no sense about the McMahon/Helmsley Era II though: Vince seems to like Cena. Pretty much any sort of HHH/Steph conniving would have to involve Vince on some level, but right now it makes no sense for Vince to do this. I mean he just fired Bischoff for various reasons, one of which was his abuse of Cena. I actually posed that question in another thread last week. Is Vince pissed at Bischoff for conspiring against Cena, or is he pissed at Bisch for conspiring against Cena and fucking it all up? The reason this all seems bizarre is that Vince is schmoozing with Cena lately and it doesn't seem right given what we know about Vince. I mean does Cena really fit his image of a proper champion? Anyway, tonight's show was far too much talk but I have to admit the Edge/Hayes thing was really off the wall. Oh and I loved Maria breaking her dumb announcer chick character to rant on Bischoff.

WWE Files A Very Interesting Trademark

Please God let it be so. I have always thought WWE sounded incredibly lame. I think what they should do is simply do a technicality and have the announcers call it the "World Wrestling Federation" and beep out "WWF" if necessary (much like on 24/7).

    NFL Week XIII

You know, I love Woody Paige (same last name, after all) but man he needs to quit with this Broncos bullshit. Since Week 1 he has constantly said that the Broncos were going to beat the Colts in the AFC title game. I'd like to know what about Jake Plummer or the Broncos would make anyone think they could go into Indy in the playoffs and not get beaten 45-20.

Duke outta be absolutely in panic that they beat a jobber like Va Tech on a hail mary. They most certainly should not be rushing the court over it. This weekend, Texas beats their asses. I'll put it to you this way: U of L is shitty this year. But if Va Tech came to Freedom Hall we'd beat their asses by at least double digits.

Yeah I know that the Jags beat the Seahawks, Steelers, and Bengals but the Steelers game was with Tommy Maddox. I guess my problem with them is that they are the most boring and bland team I've ever seen that just keeps kinda winning somehow. They're like the AFC version of the Panthers. I'll make this prediction for the Jags. They will go 12-4 due to their joke of a 2nd half schedule and then play the struggling Pats the 1st round. And the Patriots will beat them by about 3 points on a Vinatieri FG in the last minute.

Smackdown spoilers (Dec. 9th on UPN)

You know, I've said that they outta do a Best of 7 series that ends in about 5 or 6 matches. It'd probably die in terms of crowd heat if it happened though. That said, Benoit is now going to make a huge rally and take it to match 7. The problem with all Best of 7 series in wrestling is that it makes both guys look less impressive since they both end up jobbing 3 times to the other before the 7th match. I hope this means that JBL has now fired Orlando Jordan as Chief of Staff?

    NFL Week XIII

Okay let's have a look at my predictions for today and see how they held up: Tennessee at Indianapolis 1:00 PM: Biggest upset ever! Not. Colts in a squash, about like the previous matchup if not worse. (Hit this one on the head, but that was easy) Green Bay at Chicago 1:00 PM: Favre always wins in Chicago, but the Pack seems to find ways to lose this year. Bears by 6. (Bears won by more than that actually). Jacksonville at Cleveland 1:00 PM: I am so torn on this. On one hand the Browns suck, but on the other Leftwich is out and I'm not 100% sold on David Garrard. Also, I've thought the Jags would find some way to lose 1 of the 3 road jobber games of late and this would be the one. So I guess I'll go Browns by 3 with serious reservation. (My upset pick didn't pan out here...god the Jags have to be the lames 9-3 team ever, next week they get an asswhooping). Minnesota at Detroit 1:00 PM: The Good Ship Viking keeps cruising with an assbeating of helpless Detroit. Vikes by 10. (Vikings won by only be 5 I think). Dallas at NY Giants 1:00 PM: This one is huge. Surely the Giants can't keep making these great comebacks only to fall short. NYG by 7 in a very good game. (Am I good or what?) Tampa Bay at New Orleans 1:00 PM: I'll go with Junior Simms here by about 10. (Tampa won by 7 instead of 10, ah well). Buffalo at Miami 1:00 PM: What a jobber matchup here. Miami has quit trying to win (right Saban?) so I'll take the Bills by 7. (I dunno what the hell happened here, but it's two jobbers so who cares). Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 1:00 PM: In these games you have to ask yourself who needs it most? The answer is of course the Steelers, coming off 2 straight losses and they can't afford a 3rd straight at home. (Bengals showed me something today, I didn't think they'd win in Pittsburgh). Atlanta at Carolina 1:00 PM: Carolina doesn't really amaze me, but this one is pretty tough to call. I'll go with the Falcons by 3 just to make the NFC South interesting. Vick seems to have Carolina's number like TB has his. (Ok now I'm starting to suck, Panthers killed them). Houston at Baltimore 1:00 PM: Winners: the fans! God I dunno, I guess Baltimore by about 6 in an ugly 12-6 type game. (Mostly right here, it was a shitty, ugly 16-15 game). Arizona at San Francisco 4:05 PM: Oh God. Another shit game. I'll take the 49ers by 3 in OT since they always beat the Cardinals. (Two jobbers again, Cardinals get off the snide vs. SF!). Washington at St. Louis 4:05 PM: Ryan Fitzpatrick baby. Redskins might be done, so I'll take the Rams here at home by 7. (The awesomeness of Fitzpatrick has been exaggerated). NY Jets at New England 4:15 PM: Ah, back to playing jobbers for the Pats. NE by about 6 in their usual boring fashion. (They won by 13 instead, shitty game). Denver at Kansas City 4:15 PM: Denver soooo needs to lose to someone like RIGHT NOW, and it'll be here. KC by 10. (KC won by 4, good game really). Oakland at San Diego 8:30 PM: Easy pick here, SD by 21 in an assbeating. (The asses were beaten as predicted). Well I got 9 winners right out of 15. Not real great but not horrid either.

I actually heard that Duke's fans stormed the court after beating....Virginia Tech???? Is Duke falling so far that they storm the court now after beating old Metro jobbers?

I think I actually called that Va Tech Gator Bowl selection earlier, when pondering who U of L was going to get killed by. I think the reason they didn't select Miami was that U of L already played Miami last year and will in theory next year too (though I've heard Miami wants to back out). The funny thing is that as corrupt and crooked as the bowl system is, there's usually a very deserving national champion. As in no #8 seeds coming out of nowhere to win the national title like Villanova or NC St. in basketball, which would be like Northwestern winning it all this year. My main problem with the BCS is the other games that make up the big BCS paydays. They end up with stupid shit like Pitt at 8-3 or FSU at 8-4, teams that have no business being there. Meanwhile you have great games like Miami/LSU, Bama/TX Tech, U of L/Va Tech in these nothing bowls that nobody cares about outside of those towns.

Ether, the Michael Bush at QB idea is one a lot of U of L fans have had lately. I'm not sure if Petrino will do it now though, since Hunter Cantwell performed admirably in his first start on the road. I hope Bush does at least take some snaps or run some gimmick type plays in practice since it might really fool whoever we play. Agreed, the Big East isn't anywhere near as bad as people think it is, at least not on top anyway. If the BE has any of these teams improve (Pitt, USF, UConn, Rutgers) it could be a very solid conf. For now though it's just going to be WVU and U of L duking it out. Oh, and no one has really mentioned it but Georgia over LSU yesterday was hardly an upset. LSU was perhaps the most overrated team in the country, basically Bama with slightly more offense. They barely edged AZ State, lost to that shitty Tenn. team, lucked out vs. Bama and Auburn in OT, and damn near gave a game to Arkansas. Georgia meanwhile had Shockley go down and lost a tough one fo Florida, and lost a nailbiter to Auburn.
  11. Not to mention the fact that there are simply guys I don't want to see twice a week on a regular basis. I don't really want to see HHH, Bradshaw, or Randy Orton on my TV twice a week. I guess we are seeing Big Show and Kane twice for now but it's just a temp angle (not to mention they have totally different roles on the shows).

Yeah I agree Ether, but it's just lame to have a jobber get to the BCS under any circumstances. FSU's bizarre dominance of the ACC (even though they suck now) is an eyesore to football. I remember a couple years ago they were crappy and got to the BCS, then Georgia or someone just wasted them. That might have been 2002 when U of L beat them. Now they get an undeserved 15 million payday and get an assbeating from Penn St. Even when the BCS gets the main game right, they manage to totally fuck up everything else. Hell, the secondary bowls are going to be leagues better. The Big East is fine actually. WVU is a very respectable BCS team and they very well could win that game vs. UGA. You know, it's sickening now that U of L went 9-2 to look back at the WVU game. That screwjob illegal onside kick that was allowed to stand really wrecked that game for us, but since the ND/USC game was going on at the same time nobody cared. Ah well, with Brohm hurt I doubt we'd stand a chance in a BCS game anyway.

Houston MIGHT actually be decent. I know it sounds insane but it could happen that they would be solid. Bear in mind they beat LSU at LSU and then beat Zona tonight. They had some signs of life last year, I remember they beat U of L by 3. Speaking of U of L we looked like a totally different team with David Padgett in the lineup. I know all we did was squash Prairie View today but that beats almost jobbing to Div. 2 teams.

I am so sick of FSU going to the BCS when they are a total joke and have no business being there. The odd thing is that I am applying to grad school there, haha. U of L had an admirable win tonight over UCONN on the road, 30-20 without Brian Brohm. After this debacle tonight for Va Tech would they now slide into that Gator Bowl spot vs. U of L? Cause let's face it, they ain't sniffing the BCS at this point.

After today you can go ahead and write UK off. If you guys wanna hold me to that statement, go ahead. But unless Randolph Morris magically regains his eligibility AND learns how to not suck UK is going nowhere this year. They lost at home to a UNC team that lost their top 7 players. Anyone else thinking that after this year you might start hearing the calls for Tubby's head? I mean moreso than usual. Memphis just beat Cincy in Cincy by 10. You know, of the teams I've seen this year I'd say Memphis might well be the most impressive. I know they lost to Duke but in a rematch I think it could be a different story.

If that scenario holds up, I'd think the winner of Dallas/NYG would beat the Seahawks. If both the Bengals and Broncos finish about 12-4 who would get the home field?

Considering Nevada is ranked in quite a few magazines and polls that's not much of an upset. Why is it shocking that Kansas is no good this year? They lost a lot of guys off a team that jobbed 1st round to BUCKNELL.

    Favourite narratives/voiceovers

Does Webb from Laura really count as narration though? He opens the film with a brief bit of narration and then from there the movie isn't told from his perspective at all. If there was ever a movie that could be remade now, it'd be Laura. I can just imagine the portrait of Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Dama, the Chris Simms push was the biggest example of nepotism I've ever seen in sports. If he wasn't Phil's boy there's no way in hell Mack Brown would have ever started his ass. It's amusing that he's now on the Bucs with Brian Griese. It's like Team Nepotism.

Okay hang on. Did Manning never beat Florida? Yes. But he certainly was never anywhere close to being a bum like Simms or Rix. Simms and Rix actively made their teams worse by just being there

I do agree to some extent that Notre Dame has been wildly overhyped this year. Quite honestly, they haven't really beaten anyone. The only really good win they have is over Michigan...and Michigan isn't too great this year. Anyway, this weekend. I gotta agree with Dama on Colorado. They're likely going to get their asses kicked. Va Tech will probably roll FSU big time. UGA/LSU, I have no idea but I'll say Georgia since it's in Atlanta and LSU will run out of luck. UCLA might have a shot at USC if they score, score, score.

    Scott Stapp at Denny's

I was always amused at how a really well known band like Creed broke up and seemingly NO ONE cared. Does anyone know someone that was just heartbroken when Creed broke up? It's one of those double edged swords. When I heard about Alter Bridge I said "Who gives a shit about the other Creed guys without Scott Stapp?" Then I heard Scott Stapp went solo and thought "Why would anyone care about Scott Stapp if he went solo?"
