Alro, I have no idea why no one in the fucking state of KY can beat fucking IOWA! I went off on a huge tirade about this last night actually. I mean fuck it's just Iowa, they are a semi talented Big 10 JTTS. We all know Alford's bunch will start strong, win some unexpected games in the pre conf. tourneys, and then once the Big 10 season starts they'll go in the tank as usual. UK's biggest problem is that they don't have anyone to just give the ball to in a clutch situation where Tubby can say "Get the hell out of this guy's way." Rondo is way too out of control and erratic. U of L isn't worth a shit this year but at least we've got Taquan Dean to give the ball to. Oh, and WVU truly choked away that game against Texas. And they got a bit screwed on that non call at the end where Gansy was blatantly fouled. UK will lose to WVU tonight most likely as well.

As someone who used to never get a PPV and used to just rent the tapes a month or two later I can tell you it isn't quite the same as seeing the show live. On the tape or DVD they always change a few things around (maybe muffle crowd reactions they deem inappropriate). Placebo, hell the Benoit/Booker US title change on Smackdown recently was a nice ***1/2 type match. I do agree that the Best of 7 is kinda overrated but they can certainly get to *** most of the time. As far as Angle/Cena goes, they have to do the title change here. Cena's getting booed, Angle's got a big following right now, Daivari is the corrupt ref....they have to have Angle win here. Look, if Angle jobs here even with his own handpicked crooked ref then he's done.
-
I think Benoit/Booker will be better than **1/2. But yeah after Eddie's death this PPV isn't terribly important. Maybe they are hoping Cena won't get booed in front of the Eminem loving Detroit crowd?

It's not so much that she's anorexic but she could definitely use a few lbs. in the right places. Not much to grab hold of as is.
-
Not that this matters but I wonder why U of L dropped from 18 to 20 in the new BCS? I mean Boston College is now ahead of us? WTF? Guess it was the bye week? Getting to stomp the Cuse next week won't do wonders for the BCS standings either.
-
Would Hogan be willing to put over Cena though? There's no other point in doing the match if not for that. And by the way, there's no way Austin is winning if he faces Hogan. His recent walking out pretty much put him in the position where he'd have to job there.

I'm not saying that Cincy exposed the Colts as a team, but giving up 37 to a team that quite honestly isn't an offensive juggernaut is a bit disturbing. The Bengals are a good, solid offense but only got to 30 points previously against the defenseless Titans and the Vikings (when Culpepper threw about 5 INTs). In a bizarre way it's actually a relief that the Colts get the Steelers and Jags coming up, since those will be slugfests to test that D and force them to play better. San Diego is a good team but right now they won't even make the playoffs as wild as that sounds. Where is there room for them? You've got the Colts, Pats in the east, Steelers and Bengals will get in most likely, Denver unless they fold, and the Jags.
-
I agree that the Colts D got horribly exposed today. I warned everyone that a competent offensive team like the Rams could put up numbers on them (28 points). 37 points was a season high for the Bengals today, matching what they put up on the Vikings. In other words the Bengals offense usually isn't THAT great, not putting up insane pinball numbers great. The thing is, does this really hurt the Colts badly? They've shown they can win an ugly defensive struggle, and they've now shown they can flat out outscore people too. Get out in front of them like the Rams did, it just makes Manning angry. Colts have won games in all shapes and sizes. In fact I'd say the most impressive team I saw today was the Bears?! Their D actually IS incredibly impressive. I think if Orton continues to improve they could seriously make some noise. Incidentally, what's with the unrelenting hate for the NFC North? The AFC East is worse, the NFC West is putrid aside from Seattle, so it's not like that division is the worst ever seen.

Very interesting comments about HIAC though. Even though deep down I realize it's probably the better match compared to the Mankind HIAC with UT for some reason the Mankind match does more for me in a visceral way. Obviously there are the big spots, but in the original there was always something vaguely boring about the extended UT beatdown on Shawn. I said it earlier in other Bret/Shawn threads that Shawn doesn't seem like he can believably win a lot of these matches. The guy gets his ass kicked so bad that when he wins at the end it simply isn't credible. I watched the Bret/Nash match on the DVD and was impressed with it more than I was on the first viewing. While Bret certainly gets his ass handed to him he does stem the tide at several points and gets in quite a bit of credible offense, working Diesel's knee, trapping him in the corner with the cable, etc. At no time did the match seem like a mismatch. The Diesel/Michaels Good Friends match is usually considered better, but to be honest there's no "there" there in the match. Most of it is Nash just beating the shit out of Shawn, beating him with the ref's belt, taking Vachon's leg off, powerbombing him through the table. From an uninitiated viewer's perspective Shawn looks like he has zero chance of winning, as in he has no business winning. Then he simply hits a weak looking superkick and it's over. I remember talking to a guy in HS who saw that PPV and he was like "The Diesel/Michaels match was such crap. Diesel beat the shit out of him for 15 minutes and then Shawn just superkicked him and pinned him." It's the equivalent of being down 2 TDs with 2:00 left and scoring, getting an onside kick, and scoring again..then going for 2 and winning. The Bret match was more like being down a TD, then getting a tie, getting down a TD again, another tie, and finally kicking a game winning FG. Which is more credible or likely to happen?

Okay if Pitt would go to the BCS in that case I hope to God that doesn't happen. That'd be an even bigger farce than fucking South Florida. USF is at least a pretty solid team that lost a couple of games to some highly ranked teams (Miami, Penn St.). I think if that doomsday scenario happened the Sugar Bowl would take whoever would be the most credible, which would be either U of L or WVU.

Nothing is outgrossing Episode 3 this year. The Peter Jackson King Kong won't get near what the LOTR movies made, though it'll make quite a nice chunk of change. As far as the Chronicles of Narnia...huh?? Episode 3 has made almost 850 million worldwide this year. I don't see anything topping that. The last Harry Potter made about 789 million worldwide I think (and about 249 million domestic).

Hassan...Matt Striker...what was with these rookie fucks talking back to Eddie? In all honesty I don't know what to make of this Austin/Hogan thing. Somehow I doubted it could happen because you're dealing with some very major egos there. After Austin's recent antics with walking out he's obviously going to have to job to Hogan as an act of good faith. Add in Vince and Hogan are already plotting and Hogan has behaved himself of late and Austin has to see the writing on the wall.

I'm not sure why some say the KOTR 93 match with Perfect was better than the 91 SS match. I watched both back to back practically last night on the DVD and I think the SS 91 match is certainly better. The 93 match uses most of the same spots and has a bit too much sleeper rest stuff in the middle. Also, the 1991 match has a much better finish (the KOTR match has a lame small package reversal). I know Konnan did a few shots as Max Moon but Max Moon wasn't around until late 1992 or so. Bret had been doing the Sharpshooter for over a year by that point, so when was Konnan there in the Spring of 1991 or so?

Alro I saw a bit of those games and I too am mystified. Florida lost Walsh, Roberson, and Lee so I didn't think they would have shit this year. Florida always seems to have good early season runs before being exposed in the SEC. Tomorrow is where basketball picks up, with the Maui thing starting up soon and the Guardians tourney (UK vs. Iowa, WVU vs. Texas, winners face each other).

Miami hadn't done much of note all year, which is why that jarring squash of Va Tech was really bizarre. A couple weeks ago I was the first to mention the doomsday South Florida BCS scenario, but now I have an even more terrifying Big East scenario for the BCS. This is convoluted so bear with me. What if: --West Virginia loses to both Pitt and South FL to finish 5-2 in league. --South Florida loses at UConn and then beats WVU in the hurricane makeup game. --Louisville squashes Cuse and UConn as they should. Now you have four teams all tied at 5-2 in conf. and I have no idea who gets the tiebreaker. WVU would have lost to both Pitt and USF so they wouldn't have a tiebreaker over those teams. Pitt would have it over USF and WVU but U of L kicked their asses. U of L beat Pitt but lost to USF and WVU. If that bizarro world scenario actually happened, who wins the conference?

I enjoyed the movie quite well, though like Edwin I think I liked Azkaban a bit more. I haven't seen an HP movie that I thought was just OMG **** level amazing, but I've enjoyed all 4 to varying degrees. Man, the Prof. of the Dark Arts position is about like being the drummer for Spinal Tap. I've wondered for a while about this: Why isn't Snape the professor for the Dark Arts?

For some reason I can't see Benoit leaving. If he was I don't think they would have had him beat HHH clean even if it was an Eddie memorial show. He could have done his speech in tribute instead. Everyone assumes they are going to put the title on Orton again (even me) but let's think about the WHY. Has he done much to earn another title run? Is he just SOOOOO over? Is he going to draw all this money somehow that he failed to draw before? Of course not. This is where WCW being out of business hurts, because after the way Orton was booked from Sept. 2004 to March 2005 he needed to just be released and sent to WCW for a fresh start. It would have happened 10 years ago. But now despite not getting over for shit before they think he can magically draw money on a severely depleted Smackdown roster whose main ratings draw just died? Putting the title on Orton again would be like keeping Kevin Nash in 1996 and saying "Gee, I think we should put the belt back on this guy. Nevermind that whole year where he was pushed and didn't draw a dime." I think putting the title on Orton again is a desperate move. He makes a lousy face, and as a heel his "Legend Killer" schtick is a midcard act more befitting a guy who was a green rookie and not a serious world champion. -
I predict Bobby Lashley will break the Masterlock at Survivor Series and make Masters his bitch.
-
By the way, what is with all this "Spurrier is Coach of the Year" talk? I took a look at last year under Holtz and they finished at 6-5. This year under Spurrier they finished 7-4. I mean, they really didn't get all that much better, just 1 game.

Michigan St. wasn't a better team than UK...hell they were a 5 seed with no real momentum and had done zilch of note the entire year. They just got hot over a couple of days. To be honest in that Austin bracket there was no one that was a Final Four caliber team, thus SOMEONE had to come out of it. Duke was an undeserving 1 seed, UK was a very fragile 2 having just lost the SEC title to FLORIDA, etc. As I've said, I don't really hate MSU...where I'm from they aren't a real big rivalry with anyone (the UK thing is more of a pseudo rivalry). Teams I actively HATE are total scum like Cincy or maybe Memphis (though not so much now that U of L is in the Big East). U of L may not get exposed at this point though, nothing but jobbers until the trip to Rupp on Dec. 17. We beat TN Martin today in unspectacular fashion. I'll go on a limb and predict this upset: IU over Duke. Marco Killingsworth is a big plus for IU.

There are quite a few people that would agree, but lately I haven't had it in me to trash HHH. When he inevitably gets the belt back and starts burying people again, then I might. KNK, I never said Orton refused to job to Cena but why even book the match if they were going to do such a stupid finish? How about have Cena squash whoever and not have Orton on the show? Or maybe just have Cena do his tribute and walk away like they did, with no match? It made Orton look bad whether or not he thought of it when every other match had a clean finish.
-
I'm not sure of the time period here. When was Konnan in the WWF? Bret was using the Sharpshooter in 1991 or so, but I don't recall what Konnan was doing during that time period. Konnan's Max Moon stint was more like late 1992 wasn't it?

Smackdown Title situation updated

Well yeah I'd do a Batista/Orton rematch somewhere down the road but it'd be a non title situation. The only real backstory Orton/Batista has is that Batista stole the spotlight from Orton when they wanted to push Orton, and then kicked his ass the night after WM. Do they really want to remind fans of what a gimp Orton is? -
Not sure HHH fits into the greenhorn failure category. The overpushed, overexposed son-in-law category? Check. But yeah the ending to Smackdown was a lot better than the ending to Raw. That DQ just left a really bad taste in my mouth. Of all the matches this week every one had a clean finish aside from fucking Randy Orton. New Jake might be flaming the guy big time, but here the criticism is justified. Who the fuck is he that he can't go out and job on Eddie Memorial night, to the world champ no less? HHH and JBL both went out and took a pin, you're telling me this dipshit couldn't?

It's impossible not to have Eddie's ghost hanging over the proceedings though. They aren't going to make fans forget Eddie so why not play into it a bit? Here's what I'd do: --Since Batista is hurt I'd have Orton get the title from him. He can defend vs. UT or whatever in the meantime. --Around the time of No Way Out I'd have Benoit win a contender tourney. In this tourney I'd have Batista and UT get into it and set up a big time match at WM with UT's win streak on the line. --Benoit can win the title from Orton, dedicating the win to Eddie and FINALLY getting a win over the punk. UT/Batista could go either way depending on if UT is feeling it.
