I don't really buy the whole "Savage can't be controlled and hates Hogan" thing. There has to be more to it than that. I mean hell they actually wanted to work with the Warrior on that DVD until he told them to fuck off and they did the burial. The whole Stephanie thing would seem plausible in terms of making Vince so angry he'd never want Savage back, but the dates here don't add up. She's about 30 now, right? So this would have happened in roughly 1990 or so, but Savage was around for another 4 years. Maybe it's one of those things where Steph told him years later (if it happened).

I liked this show better than Raw actually, possibly because it doesn't get much better than seeing HHH and Bradshaw both job in the same night (to Eddie's best friend and his nephew no less). Those matches both seemed eerily similar right down to the sleeper spots used to start the "Eddie" chant. Oh and as far as the convoluted RVD chair spots, he did that springboard moonsault with the chair several times in 1999-2000, not just at Hardcore Heaven 2000 vs. Lynn.

Worst 2-Hour or More NITRO or RAW...

Hey, the Jericho 1004 holds skit may have just been a minute or two but that's at least a couple mins. of fun Jericho stuff. That's better than the Fingerpoke show or half the garbage that was on Nitro in 1999. As far as the Raws in 1999, at least people liked those shows at the time. Maybe they don't hold up with time though. Lushus, I don't remember much about the HHH rocking chair interview. Then again, when I see HHH alone in the ring with a mic in hand I tend to either tune it out or change the channel. -
Would it be that simple though? I can't help but think Vince will propose ideas involving Shawn for WM and Bret will have to either accept it or just not appear at the show. Maybe just something as simple as Bret congratulating Shawn after his match, or making up with him, etc. I dunno if that would ring true or not though. What I noticed is that Bret seems so sad, not that he was in a bad mood but just that he seemed so world weary and sad. This coming WM will be the most somber WM in history, with what will be undoubtedly more Eddie tributes and also Bret.

That whole scenario actually worked out better in reality than it sounds on paper. The fans mainly wanted to just cheer Austin again and boo Angle, so it worked ok. It mostly fed into Angle being a dick about how "loyal" he was to Vince that he acted as a mole. I always thought Bulldog's heel turn in 1995 was incredibly stupid. The guy's tag partner runs off to WCW (Luger again), so they turn him heel by having him betray KEVIN NASH (?!?) in a match against M.O.M. and think that can possibly draw. It didn't help that Davey Boy was about the least threatening heel imaginable. He never cut many heelish promos, or really even wrestled much of a heel style. But hey, he had Jim Cornette as his manager so he must be evil...right?? Bulldog at least got a decent haircut when he turned heel, so it wasn't a total loss.

McNabb ought to just go ahead and get the surgery. At this point continuing to play with the hernia is only making things worse and I kinda doubt Philly is going anywhere this year.
-
Booker almost has his yearly heatless heel turn before everyone forgets it and he just goes back to face again. At least the Big Show has been somewhat stable of late, though he seems similar as either heel or face. Speaking of heel turns, how about Luger? This dude turned heel so many times I lost track.

I remember reading that rumor in a Hyatte column a while back. I have no idea if that's actually true, but it might explain the ill feelings towards Savage. I mean it has to go deeper than "the guy is just nuts, fuck him." Right?

Well I don't guess there should have been a huge amount of Stampede necessarily but I'd have rather seen the Dynamite Kid match and the Bad News ladder match on the DVD rather than the pointless time limit draw tag matches with the Bulldogs and the Killer Bees. I'd have perhaps also rather seen the 2nd tag title win over Demolition instead of the WM 7 loss to the Nasty Boys, though I guess since that might well have been the last match he and Anvil tagged (at least until the 1997 HF rebirth) he felt the need to include it.
-
Yeah, I dunno if he actually says "Yes, I invented the ladder match" but my god they show a bit of footage with him vs. Bad News Allen from 1982 and it's a ladder match. It seemed really sweet too from what they showed, I wanted to see it all. Wonder why they didn't include any Stampede matches on the extras? Maybe Bret hadn't seen them in so long he'd forgotten them, or maybe thought WWE didn't have access? I too need to rewatch the Bret/Bulldog match from 1995. If I recall that match is awesome, almost as good as the Wembley match.

I kind of enjoy games in awful weather too but not for the championship. That has to be who is truly the best team in a nice environment, so no one has any excuses. Anyway, I said the Jags would finish about 10-6 before their 2nd half schedule was posted on here. It's a joke. I think it is slightly possible they could win out to go 13-3, but given their stagnant offense they'll probably stumble a couple of times. They might go 11-5 or so, losing to the Colts and some jobber like the Texans on the road.

If that one Nitro has the Jericho "1004 holds" schtick it can't possibly be the worst. How could anyone forget the Fingerpoke of Doom Nitro? Actually I'd say pretty much any of the shit they were turning out in mid 1999 is easily worse than those 1998 shows. The Hummer angle, Rap vs. Country...it's like a who's who of wrestlecrap. -
Just wondering but what is it that Vince has against Macho that keeps them from doing a DVD of him, etc.? I have an old tape that I got at Wal Mart that has some old school Memphis stuff on it. The Macho/Lawler match was pretty fun but they have to put the famed match with the Rock N Rolls where he put Morton through the table.

The real revelation on the first disc is the Stampede footage. I seriously wish they had included that entire Dynamite Kid/Bret match from about 1980-81. That match looked AWESOME for the time period, hell it looked awesome even today. Ditto the 1982 match with Bad News that was a ladder match. Just amazingly revolutionary compared to the dreary snoozers that the WWF was doing at that time. I'll start watching the other two discs tonight.

Okay, so you're comparing Eddie to some dumbass who fucked a pie? In the end I have almost the opposite feeling you do though. I can respect Angle, but I can't see myself getting all that upset if he died. Maybe it's just that he's always come off to me as somewhat insincere, kind of a phony (which is why he plays that type of heel so well). Iggy, if you had watched Smackdown much from 2002-present there's no way you wouldn't be upset at Eddie's death.

4hartthreat, I haven't ever said the Jags are choking dogs. I've just said they aren't an elite level team, which they aren't. Why would I pick against them going against the crappy likes of Tennessee and Baltimore? Those are games any competent team should win. I think someone is going to get screwed out of the playoffs in the AFC. And it's looking more and more like San Diego. Yeah they are a playoff caliber team but they had such a hard 1st half that it put them in a hole. For instance, the Colts and Jags likely come out of the South, Bengals and Steelers out of the Central, and the Pats come out of the putrid East. That leaves only the Broncos from the West and the Chargers are on the outside.

I do agree that the fans were classless to chant it on Monday given the circumstances. It was one week where the "YOU SUCK" chant needed a break. I argued Austin earlier, but admit to not having any evidence that he's having serious health problems or whatever. Austin has just always struck me as someone who will inevitably meet a bad end, be it having a skank girlfriend stab him to death or having a fatal car wreck while drunk. Just something like that, wouldn't shock me. I can't see Benoit though. After Eddie dying Benoit is probably going to take extra care of himself to avoid the same fate. If I'm him I'd maybe ask for one more run on top in honor of Eddie, then I'd hang em up.

I also ordered a shirt so thanks for posting that link. I might also get his DVD at some point but not from WWE.com. I'd get it cheaper off Amazon or someone.

The HH 97 match is a classic but I don't think it's my favorite Eddie match since it seems like those two could have done pretty near the same matchup on a nightly basis back then. Not much emotional grab to it, you know? My favorite Eddie match is the Brock match where he won the title. Followed closely by the RVD ladder match.

I'm still trying to figure out who that cryptic remark was pertaining to. I'd almost have to say Steve Austin if he counts as actually being on the roster these days. He just seems like someone that is going to end up in a bad way sooner or later. I don't think HHH or Angle dying would even bring the sort of outpouring that Eddie's death has. Let's face it, HHH simply isn't well liked enough or likable enough to grieve. I can't really see myself crying over HHH, or watching countless online tributes from guys who probably didn't even like him when he was alive. Angle might be a slightly bigger news story than Eddie due to his Olympic background, but would fans grieve him more than Eddie? Not really. Flair would be huge but would people be as saddened? Nah. Flair is old, he's had a hell of a run. He wouldn't be dying in his prime (or very near it). That said, I don't think Flair is on a death watch by any means. If he was that bad off they'd probably make him retire. I'm going with Austin though.

Just wondering but why is Manning listed under the Ewing Theory? I mean hell if the Colts lost him they wouldn't even win a game. And yes, I know Tennessee won the title the next year but they had every insane, fluke bullshit piece of luck I've ever seen in order to do it. Where's Tee Martin now?

Actually no, the Owen thing didn't really hurt them much at all in terms of the actual onscreen shows. Let's face it, Owen was doing a nothing midcard comedy act as The Blue Blazer. They just plugged Jeff Jarrett into his IC spot and it was like he was never there storywise. This isn't to cheapen Owen's death by any means, if anything it's an indictment against his misuse. The Eddie story isn't getting as much national press but it's much, much more important for WWE. Maybe not for Raw, which can for the most part go back to normal next week. But Smackdown? That show is going to have a cloud over it for a long, long time. Eddie carried that show for most of his 2002-2005 run on the show. In fact I mostly tuned in to Smackdown even in the darkest days of 2004 (with Angle as GM and JBL as champ) mainly out of loyalty to Eddie. Eddie may not have always been the #1 guy on the show storywise, but he was always the #1 guy on the show in terms of entertainment value (I believe his segment ratings reflect this). Owen's death hurt them in a symbolic nature, but not really very much in terms of actual TV product. Eddie was in the mix for the world title and might have won it. I can't think of anything Smackdown can do at this point that won't have the shadow over Eddie all over it, unless Benoit dedicates one last run to Eddie and it culminates with him winning the title. It's impossible to just ignore Eddie's death.

Yeah the 8.1 was during the NBA playoffs with no Nitro, so that number is kind of inflated. The Owen comparison is unavoidable...it's the only other Raw that's ever been anything like this week's show. Also, the Owen story was all over TV news because he died in the ring in a freak accident...it was a shocking moment.
-
I actually thought it'd be much higher than that. If I recall the Owen show got about a 7.1 or so, though the base following was 6.0 or something back then.
