    iMPACT 10/29 thread

Curry, I agree. Quite a few of these TNA X guys seem like strong ring workers but they are just....guys. As in bland, boring white boy cruiser types. They wouldn't look out of place jobbing for food on a 1988 Superstars episode. Know why Sonjay Dutt won that 4 way at the PPV? He at least has a bit of personality and seemed somewhat different from the other 3 guys. Dutt might have been Sabu's slave but at least that's a gimmick. TNA could use someone like Heyman booking things. He'd develop some of these guys on the mic and give them a persona.

    NFL Week 8

I actually think the Bears seem reasonably decent and should finish above .500 in that division. I'm calling them at 9-7. Anyone else think the Giants might be the best in the NFC?

The Story of XTREME PRO WRESTLING

XPW is so depressing. I used to watch it on TV sometimes back in 2000 but then stopped after the whole Heatwave 2000 debacle. They were so bush league, showing up at ECW's PPV and then getting their asses kicked. XPW along with some of that ultra sick Japanaese death match stuff is the only wrestling I've ever watched and then felt dirty afterwards. Hearing about these guys like Rizzono is sad. Some untalented indie bum trying to literally kill himself to make a few hundred bucks. XPW is full of these stories, like that dude Supreme as well. It's not worth paralyzing yourself, not for a fleeting moment or two of glory working for a porn producer in a 3rd rate shit fed.

    OVW Results Thread...

This was the best OVW show I've seen in a long time, maybe since the show I saw that had Dinsmore/Snow and Trailer Park Trash/Flannagan (this was like 5 years ago).

    A Brief History of TNA

I disagree about the Lynn/Styles matches being better than Lynn/RVD. There were some truly awesome 3 ways with Lo Ki involved but the singles matches between the two were slight misfires I always thought. The feud itself was very good though.

Oh God, that heroin needles scene is something that will stay in my mind for a long time. It's even sicker once you end up realizing that...

This week in college football: 10/27 - 10/29

I'd love to see that happen. Is it really a sure thing though that UCLA will beat both Zona and ASU? They seem to struggle with everyone. That Tennessee game by the way was a loss on the night they retired Peyton Manning's jersey. There's something amusing about that, I guess they figured they'd lose to Steve Spurrier once again in Manning's honor.

    SAW II

I dunno about him but it had a couple of unintentional laughs in it. There's a lot more graphic sick shit in this one compared to the first, which mostly had the notorious Elwes "hacking the foot off" scene and maybe a couple other things. But this? Dear God, people dying in really sick ways all through it. As far as the big twist at the end, I actually guessed that about 20 mins. into the movie.

A look ahead towards college basketball...

Okay, I get that. But they lost their most notable player (Villanueva) and were only 2nd round and done last year....and had a 2 seed they didn't remotely deserve. I am just unsure how this = #2 in the nation, whereas Villanova seems like a team more ready for a big run.

A look ahead towards college basketball...

My thoughts on at least some of this: 1. Duke--This is a no brainer. Duke is the only team with seemingly everyone back. Whether that's good or not is up for some debate. 2. Connecticut--I don't really get this. More on past rep than anything. They lost some guys off a 2nd round team and don't some of their players have legal trouble? 3. Texas--Did they have some insane recruiting class? Christ, they lost 1st round last year. 4. Villanova--Finally a pick that makes sense, they seemed like a team on the cusp of greatness last year. 5. Michigan State--No real problem with this pick either, made the FF last year and still have quite a bit. 6. Oklahoma--I dunno. If they can actually hit the broad side of a barn, maybe. Otherwise...no. 7. Gonzaga--No Turiaf, dudes. They're going nowhere. 8. Louisville--Right now U of L isn't even a top 20 team, sad to say. Injuries all over the front line, but we have nobody good but UK until conf. play so hopefully we'll heal up. 9. Arizona--I think Stoudamire went pro, right? I think this Zona team has all the earmarks of their usual choker tourney teams. 10. Kentucky--Dare I say UK might be a bit underrated? If they actually step up the pace as Tubby has said they should be a lot more exciting. Morris' eligibility is a question mark, but he ain't THAT great anyway. 11. Boston College--If they can get to the Sweet 16 they'll be doing good. 12. Memphis--Should be the class of C-USA now, not that anyone gives a shit. 13. STANFORD--Should finish decent enough in a bleh Pac 10. 14. Alabama--Ludicrously overrated. Hell, they don't have Kennedy Winston anymore off a team that was also overrated to hell last year. The SEC is just UK and a bunch of jobbers. 15. West Virginia--Here is a team I think is underrated. Returning nearly everyone from a team that was an eyelash from the FF. 16. Syracuse--They still have McNamara so they'll be ok. 17. Illinois--I know they lost some guys but doesn't this seem a bit low for the runner up? 18t. UCLA--I'd probably pick them 2nd in the Pac 10 over Stanford, but then I'm just marking for the UCLA name. 18t. Wake Forest--I have no confidence in these guys to do anything. 20. Iowa--Just a Big 10 JTTS. Maybe an 8 seed in the tourney, gone 2nd round as usual. 21. Maryland--Can they actually put it together? In a really down ACC they can make a run. 22. Indiana--IU is total garbage. 23. Iowa State--I have no idea, maybe like Iowa just an 8/9 type seed, gone 2nd round at most. 24. George Washington--Might be a nice little sleeper team to win a game or so in the tourney. 25. Nevada--This dude I know from Reno swears they will be at least Sweet 16 like in 2004. Truthfully I think the best teams by year's end will be Duke, UK, Nova, and maybe someone we aren't thinking about as much (OU?). Does the SEC suck or what though? Dear God, 2 teams in the top 25, one of which isn't any good (Bama). I'd rank LSU ahead of them easy, even losing Bass.

    SAW II

I'm not going to be too hard on Elwes in the first film. Hell, how could anyone play the climax of the movie and not have it be really bizarre and/or unintentionally funny? I don't think it matters who was in the role, nobody could play that scene. I really liked the first one though, hopefully the 2nd is cool. I am probably going to see it due to it being near Halloween. This time of year what would anyone see...Saw 2 or Legend of Zorro?

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale

Stephen Dorff is a mystery to me. I'd have thought after Blade that he would have gotten somewhere, but nope. Maybe the guy has a really bad agent?

If there was one PPV that defined WCW...

I've actually never seen that Souled Out show but it sounds so bizarre that I wish I could find it. The thing I never liked about the NWO was the way they tried in vain to pimp them as a completely separate organization. I mean at the end of the day they were merely a heel faction in a promotion, not some different entity. The hugest fundamental problem with the NWO angle is that all through it they constantly joked about how much WCW sucked and then proved it by beating their asses at every turn. Make no mistake about it...WCW was never hot, it was the NWO that was hot. Once the NWO angle ran out of gas note how fast interest in WCW waned. The big problem was that fans had been taught for so long that WCW sucked that once the big NWO angle fizzled out there was nothing else people cared to see. I think WWE is making a similar mistake with Smackdown right now, constantly having the Raw guys joke on how bad and 2nd rate the show is, how much the show sucks. When you condition your audience to think that a show is inferior and second rate, they eventually believe it. The sad thing is that Smackdown is quite a bit BETTER than Raw.

    OAO 10/28/05 Smackdown Thread

I would have used that tag match tonight to elevate someone else, not just put the titles on the already jobbed out and tired MNM act. I'd have put the titles on Regal/Burchill there. It's amusing that they job a team out for months and then put the belts back on them again as though nothing had happened. What is the point of this Piper stuff anyway? Smackdown is doing some good stuff right now but I don't have any idea how anyone could think bringing Piper back is a good idea. He's really the only legend that I frankly don't think brings shit to the table. I can see people saying "Gee I wish Hogan would come back sometime." But who would sit around wishing Piper would feud with his lackey (Orton) from 20 years ago?

Two Stars Suffer Serious Injuries at RAW

You know, Edge is very injury prone. That's likely why he's never been given that big main event push, because they have no confidence in him to actually be healthy.

    Jerry Jarrett at WWE Headquarters.

I remember this now. The USWA went under in 1997 due to it being sold to some assholes who proved to not be financially solvent or something. I didn't realize that this bunch also got control over the Memphis footage though, since that stuff was pre USWA Memphis (or at least a lot of the notable stuff was). So....who DOES own the Memphis footage? Is it kinda like ECW before Vince finally bought it?

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale

Yeah I mean has being in a Boll film actually hurt anyone? It's just extra money. Some may say Tara Reid's career is in the tank but I dunno if Alone in the Dark was a major reason. That said I have no idea what Stephen Dorff was doing in it.

This week in college football: 10/27 - 10/29

Iggy, what is with this constant pimping of Ga Tech in everything? Va Tech has beaten BC easy and schooled WVU in Morgantown. Those teams are both better than Georgia Tech, who is really just an ACC JTTS type team. As far as the big road win, I'd say beating WVU by 17 is a quality win. Ask U of L if it's easy to go in there and win. People seem to have this bizarre opinion of Ohio St. as though they've actually done shit this year. Beating them isn't really any better this year than beating WVU or BC...well maybe a little better (like 4 spots in the BCS or so between OSU and BC). As far as USC goes, I think Arizona St. is hurting them a bit. ASU is a much better team than their 3-4 record. What happened is that once they lost those tough games to LSU and USC they've gone into the tank.

    World Series-Astros vs White Sox

There might be something to that. The Angels in 2002 were about as boring and whitebread of a team as can be, aside from Garrett Anderson. The Astros this year had pretty much an all white lineup. Those two series were the lowest rated series ever. So I guess it can be said that white guys can win games and get to the World Series, but can't draw any viewers.

    New BCS Standings

Bama seems like a team that wins by the skin of their teeth. I can't see them going undefeated with Auburn, LSU, and Georgia in the SEC title game all left. That Va Tech/Miami game is in Blacksburg, correct? I think the Hokies will beat them by about 2 TDs. This is not a real amazing Miami team, though still in the top 10. And I think Va Tech will smoke FSU should they meet in the ACC title game.

I'd love to see some old school Memphis stuff on the 24/7. By all means let's see some old school Lawler, Dundee, Jarrett and Billy Travis, etc.

    Future WWE Main Eventers

I'm bewildered that anyone thinks Carlito can ever become a serious main event guy. Let's say the guy manages to actually learn to not suck in the ring. Let's say he actually gets some intensity. Let's say he actually uses that roll of the dice finisher now. Let's say somehow people forget that Cena owned him in less than 5 mins. in most of their matches. Let's also say somehow people forget that he tapped TWICE to the Figure 4 and let Flair hit the top rope move. Even after all that the guy is still barely 200 lbs. and has zero physique. He's not even Alex Wright. Thus far I disagree about Lashley being gone in 6 months. If anything I think he'll be feuding with Batista at some point. After maybe 3 SD appearances my mom said "I'd like to see this guy against Batista, he might actually be a match for Batista."

    Kane Movie Starts This Saturday!

Dama, when did you talk with JR? OU football game or something? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say if both Kane's movie and Cena's are released to theaters that Kane's will draw more money. Look if utter crap like Boogeyman can be #1 at the box office in a given week (which had absolutely nobody in it) then a cheesy horror flick with Kane can make a decent amount.

Am I the only one who thinks Va Tech should get the Rose Bowl if they win out? I mean they would have wins over Miami, FSU, BC, WVU, etc. Or does playing Duke in conf. and then jobbers like Marshall and Ohio OOC hurt them?
