    The OAO Raw Homecoming Thread

Well, the Orton thing didn't make much sense. I've seen Foley job to him 2 times and don't wish to see that again. I don't want to see Orton vs. Piper period. So really there isn't anything good that can come from this segment. Also, there's just something sad about the Ortons being among the first guys you see on the big epic homecoming show on USA. Add to it that Orton isn't even on Raw and that was one puzzling segment.

    NFL Week 5

Here are some predictions: Baltimore at Detroit 1:00 p.m....I'll take Detroit in an awful, ugly mess. Chicago at Cleveland 1:00 p.m....Guess I'll go with the Bears in another battle of jobbers. Miami at Buffalo 1:00 p.m....I'm hesitant on this, but I'll take Miami. New England at Atlanta 1:00 p.m....Atlanta in a close one, should be a good game. New Orleans at Green Bay 1:00 p.m...Surely the Packers have to beat SOMEONE? Seattle at St. Louis 1:00 p.m....The Rams own Seattle. Tampa Bay at N.Y. Jets 1:00 p.m....Bucs should run it to 5-0. Tennessee at Houston 1:00 p.m....God I dunno, guess I'll take Houston since it's a home game. Indianapolis at San Francisco 4:05 p.m....total asskicking for Indy. Carolina at Arizona 4:15 p.m....In a mild upset I'll take the Cardinals, who can be tough at home. Philadelphia at Dallas 4:15 p.m....Eagles in a tough one. Washington at Denver 4:15 p.m...one unbeaten goes down, Denver in a possible beatdown. Cincinnati at Jacksonville 8:30 p.m....Could go either way, but I think the Bengals can slip through and remain unbeaten. Monday, Oct. 10 Pittsburgh at San Diego 9:00 p.m....San Diego is on a roll, they're at home, I'll take them.

    The OAO Raw Homecoming Thread

I too wondered what was up with that opening segment. I mean your first segment on USA and you have RANDY ORTON of all people interrupt Piper and Foley? Aside from it being, you know, Randy Orton the guy isn't even on the show. The Austin segment was fun up until the point where he interacted with Linda. I found that really bizarre, tasteless, and it soured me on the whole bit. They need to realize that stuff like Austin stunning Vince and Shane is hilarious, but Austin stunning a middle aged woman like Linda isn't amusing. It reminded me of when he stunned Stacy Keibler for no good reason.

What year did WWE start to lose their edge?

Well to me the signs were there once HHH won at WM in 2000, which pissed me off to the point where I would have considered not watching anymore if not for the Judgement Day PPV here in Louisville, which kept me interested. Lots of people have a fondness for 2000 that it really doesn't deserve. To me that year was HHH jerking off in front of everyone and the general direction started to suck. I'd say the events and storylines surrounding the TNN move is what really started the WWF decline. To wit: --At this point we had the long running "Who ran over Austin?" angle payoff with Rikishi killing his career by being the driver. --The HHH/Steph/Angle love triangle fizzed out and didn't have a decent payoff. --The actual ratings declined due to being on a shitty network like TNN. People piss on 2001 a bit much I think. Mainly due to some vague orgasmic dreams of what the Invasion should have been. 2001 actually had a very solid amount of in ring action.

    A History of Violence

Having seen the 2005 Crash and now History of Violence I personally think HOV is easily better. Crash has just WAY too much stuff going on in it and no one gets enough screen time. The stuff with the son isn't pointless at all though. See, once he starts seeing his dad morph back into Joey and waste these guys he realizes deep down in his own DNA is that same sort of vicious nature.

    The OAO Raw Homecoming Thread

I do agree that 1999 wasn't a real great year for the WWF or WCW in terms of actual wrestling (in my view ECW was actually the best for in ring work that year). The WWF mostly got by on shock TV because their actual roster once you got past the top tier was pretty shitty. It was entertaining at the time, but go back and watch most any PPV from 1999 that the WWF did. Most of them are pretty bad.

    NFL Week 4- Sept. 26-0ct.2

Anyone wanna take a shot at predicting what the Colts do to the Niners next week? Name the score. I'll say 42-7. You know what would be the worst scenario for the Colts? To finally get past the Pats in the playoffs and then lose to someone else (Steelers, Bengals).

Iggy's Week 4 College Football rankings

I can already see the "Petrino to Michigan" rumors starting now. Why should he limit himself to flirting around with SEC programs? It's no shock to see Iggy overrate Georgia Tech. He constantly pimps them and overhypes them for reasons that kind of elude me. Incidentally I won't argue FSU's ranking since they are 5-0, but don't they seem like a lame top 5 team? Personally I think any of USC, Va Tech, or Texas would eat them alive. But they don't have Chris Rix, so I guess that counts for something.

    Box Office Report...

I've read some other criticism on imdb.com of the opening scene of History of Violence and I don't really get what was bad about it. It was during the opening credits and personally I'm not used to an insane amount of action happening while trying to read the cast names and director, etc. Just wondering fanofcoils but.... If you look at it more along those lines I think it's a more interesting film.

    The OAO Raw Homecoming Thread

I thought it was pretty much written in stone that Matt will go to Smackdown. Hell, didn't Jim Ross mention as much recently? I'm not sure I grasp the entire point of this, since Matt will merely join the parade of midcard faces on Smackdown while Edge could provide the show with a notable heel. I assume no one is giving Eddie a hope in hell of winning at this PPV? The show is on his birthday, maybe they'll give him the title as a present? Anyone keeping the title warm for Orton is so wrong. In case no one's been watching Smackdown lately (which might be true) it's safe to say the guy has ZERO heat. None. Zilch. Nada.

    OAO 10/1 Impact Thread

I can understand the hostility towards pushing the old WWF and WCW retreads. I think it's a bad idea quite honestly since those guys all in some way have a negative buzz (aside from someone like Raven, who most people probably still kinda like....and of course they jobbed him to Jarrett to set up this current scene).

    NFL Week 4- Sept. 26-0ct.2

I actually used the Bills last night on Madden and good god does JP Losman SUCK. Ditto Holcomb. I mean honestly, Losman is the main QB on the game that flat out throws the ball 30 yards away from the receiver. Why do I get this sickening feeling that no matter how shitty the Patriots get this year they'll still find a way to get a lucky fluke win over the Colts in a few weeks? Edgerrin James will fumble 3 times near the endzone or some dumb shit.

    Box Office Report...

I went to see A History of Violence today. It was awesome and it's surprising no one has started a thread about the film. There was one thing I found curious about Viggo in the film though, and if anyone else saw it feel free to comment:

    OAO 10/1 Impact Thread

I agree with that much. TNA fills the void of just wanting to see some guys bust shit out. I mean watch some crappy Carlito match on Raw with his boring restholds and headlocks....then watch that wild 3 way tonight. TNA's main problem is the same thing that plagued WCW's cruisers, namely that most of these guys haven't got much of a persona to get people interested in anything besides the moveset. I didn't know two of the three guys in the 3 way match (I did know Sabin from some of the weekly PPVs, he had an awesome match with Juventud). Why not give these guys a bit of mic time to introduce themselves, rather than just being "Anonymous cruiser/X guy who does wild shit?"

    Any First Time Viewers Tonight?

Yeah I'm still a little baffled as to what the big deal is with Monty Brown. I saw him when I first used to watch TNA in 2002 or so and he didn't really impress me then. I couldn't tell tonight if he's improved much since he just squashed some jobber.

    Into The Blue

I'm amazed anyone would think Alba would be nude in this considering she was a stripper in Sin City and didn't get naked there.

This Week in College Football 9/27 - 10/1

Miami beat USF 27-7...not quite as bad as I was thinking it would be. I was expecting 49-7 or so. I actually don't think Miami covered here, so at least USF accomplished that much. I have no idea who will win the Big East. It's a bunch of mules fighting over a turnip. I'm guessing whoever wins the game in a couple weeks with U of L vs. WVU.

    Any First Time Viewers Tonight?

I watched it quite a bit in 2002 but once I saw too much of Russo and Paul Bearer on my TV I tuned out. Then for no good reason I picked up watching again in 2003 and watched again for a little while, till I moved to my own apt. and getting weekly PPVs wasn't exactly a priority.

    OAO 10/1 Impact Thread

I really wish they had 2 hours, it would make things so much easier. I always thought their older PPV only shows were solid shows, but that they seemed more like a better Raw. As in a good 2 hour show for TV, but not really a PPV. If they could get 2 hours and put on those type shows I think they'd be great. Having not seen much TNA stuff in the past year I don't know these guys The Naturals. Why not just job them out to AMW and then have that obvious Dudleys/AMW feud for the tag belts?

Spike to hype TNA all day Saturday

Constantly pimping UFC over TNA is a bad idea that won't ever really pay off much for Spike. At least I don't think so. Ultimate Fighting is way too much of a cult type sport with limited appeal. As has been said, there is very little crossover appeal to wrestling audiences (I can't say I watch much of it). TNA could be a hit show for Spike if it was in a better timeslot and had the right promotion. I think at some point TNA will get a better time on Spike, but for now they have to pay the dues and be a glorified Velocity on Saturday nights at 11.

    Wrestlers Being Pricks

Since OVW is here in Louisville my friend Chris and I have run into wrestlers here and there. Once after helping Chris move we chilled at a Hooters where several OVW guys came in. Shannon Moore was cool as hell, chatted with us and gave Chris an autograph for his cousin. Matt Morgan was with Shannon as well, and brought two blondes with ultra huge fake tits (I wondered if they were OVW divas?). The only guy there that seemed like a sulking jerk was Luther, he wouldn't give anyone the time of day.

This Week in College Football 9/27 - 10/1

If USF stays within 3 TDs of Miami today (on the road) I'd be shocked. I'm not all that offended that U of L lost to South Florida, in fact we lost to them 2 years ago in a great OT game down there. They aren't a hideously untalented team. If this had been a similar tough loss I wouldn't have been embarrassed, but it's like there was no real effort shown...the D couldn't stop anything USF did. Going in, U of L was supposed to be about 10 notches above whatever dregs the Big East had to offer (actually USF was a previous C-USA jobber, making this more inexcusable since they should have been familiar). That loss for U of L last week was program killing kind of bad...Big East losing its BCS bid level bad. I watched this similar scenario unfold for U of L in 2002, coming off a great 11-2 year. It was predicted then U of L could be the first non BCS team to crash the dance...and then we went like 7-5. In regards to Pitt, they're even more of an embarrassment. I'm amazed anyone can defend Wannstedt here and try to trash Walt Harris. Hell, Pitt was a mediocre team last year but somehow won the BE at 8-3 and got to the BCS. Wannstedt is using most of the same players and the record likely will be reversed (3-8).

Dixie Says Break Even Point is Near

Yeah but how can they not be the NWA? They're sorta locked into it really, and it's not like WCW where nobody realized the subtle difference or cared when they pulled out of the NWA (to most people the Crockett and later Turner owned promotion WAS the NWA). Also, the NWA TV show was already World Championship Wrestling so it was easy to just call the promotion itself WCW without anyone knowing or caring about the difference. How can TNA just say "Fuck it, we're not the NWA anymore?" Let's face it, some people care about guys fighting over the NWA world title...who would care about two guys fighting over something called the "Total Nonstop Action Heavyweight Title?"

This Week in College Football 9/27 - 10/1

The Big East is dead in the water. How horrendous is it for the two teams they were hyping (Pitt, U of L) to both tank all to hell? Pitt is pretty much a lost cause this year, not sure on U of L yet...we'll see if that USF game was a one time nightmare or a sign of the future. It won't help the BE much when USF gets a bitchslap from Miami to the tune of something like 49-7. In a way I'd like to see U of L still somehow get the BCS bid, but in a way it'd be embarrassing. I'd almost prefer not to be like Pitt last year, a total joke in a BCS game without doing anything to deserve it. I think WVU is the most likely to get the BCS bid though.

Dixie Says Break Even Point is Near

I dunno, I read last week that WWE has trademarked "Rob Van Dam" and it'd be truly hideous to see him go to TNA as Robbie V or something lamer than that (Rob Van Deadly?). Right now, what is the real incentive of a WWE guy to defect to TNA? There is far less money in it, and in the end you'll just be Jeff Jarrett's job bitch instead of HHH's. NWA: TNA can be a nice little alternative on Spike, but to me they are competing with OVW more than WWE (quite literally, both shows are on Sat. at 11:00 here in Louisville...I'll have to tape one or the other). I still think they outta emphasize the NWA part more. TNA is a fine name for the show itself, but it's hardly a name for the promotion itself. It just sounds...cheesy?
