Yeah but CM in 2 of those matches you list Cena was either in a 3 way where he didn't do a huge amount or was being carried by Jericho (and neither of those are really great matches). As far as the JBL/Cena match goes...even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally. If I had to go with a MOTY I'd say the Money in the Bank. I think more people would pick it if the long term point of the match had come into play yet, which is namely Edge cashing in the title shot.

I'm not going to get on Cena's case for these Raw ratings because these shows are essentially lame duck offerings. Even the most casual fan can tell they are tanking it until they get back on USA. One problem they are having is not having this tangible USA debut to promote (I'm assuming because Spike doesn't want WWE pimping USA). At least Smackdown built to the Friday debut show and announced things on TV ahead of time. I'm assuming they will have to mention something on the last Spike Raw. The inherent problem with Cena right now is that there is really no tangible reason for his push other than his past raps on the mic that got him over. I mean his popularity never has had much to do with his mediocre wrestling ability...it was his wigger rap act. Yes it was a bush league, midcard gimmick but at least it was SOMETHING. Now he's not even doing his raps for heat, so really what does he have? Not much. His ring work is iffy and his mic work and character are 2nd rate Rock lite.

U of L vs. Oregon St. will likely be a better game than the line would suggest (which is U of L by 13 or 14). Oregon St. just came off beating Boise in a thriller and they seemed pretty decent.

Okay JustJoe let's check it out here: Boston College--Won't do shit in the ACC. Duke--The lone really major contender next year from the ACC. Georgia Tech--They lost everybody. Maryland--I kinda think they've had their run. North Carolina--Lost everyone off the title team. North Carolina State--just a JTTS. Virginia--also a JTTS Wake Forest--Wake me up when they win in March. I think what Dragon meant is that it seems like the ACC never has ALL these teams going strong at once. It's either Duke/UNC/Wake or Duke/Maryland or UNC/Wake at one point. The others are mostly there to be jobbers. That said, the absolute worst main conference this year will be the SEC. It's been fucking horrible for the past few years anyway but Florida doesn't even have Walsh, Roberson, and Lee now, Bama lost some guys in foolish NBA decisions, and no one else is much aside from UK.

How about RVD winning the TV title from Bam Bam? The insane somersault into the 5th row made me leap out of my chair watching at home. I'll also agree on the Wrestlepalooza 97 show from Raven/Dreamer till the Taz/Douglas match. ECW never had a better show. I got that show on a DVD a while back and it was like being taken on a wild ride.

On a side note, what exactly IS going to happen with Smackdown next year? I think we're all assuming UPN is going to ditch WWE when the contract is up....so what then?

Let me put it this way regarding Raw. If you knew going in this was a placeholder show before they go back to USA and didn't expect much, you could have some fun with this show. If you expected greatness, this show was horrid. Interesting someone brought up Goldberg because I thought about his WWE tenure the other day. Think about this: Goldberg beat down The Rock, Chris Jericho, HHH in their lone singles match, likely Kane as well though I'm hazy on it, and the notorious Lesnar win. That's pretty mindblowing, isn't it? The weird thing is that I assumed he was merely brought in to job to Austin in a match, and be built up a bit and then job out to Lesnar on his way out.

Availability is a big issue here. In the 1990s at various points I watched the WWF, WCW, USWA, and even Global on ESPN. Then ECW debuted in my area and I watched that too. Now I'll watch OVW sometimes as well. Have I ever watched much Japanese stuff? Not really, aside from those death match things that were sickening). The reason is that it's simply not on TV in this country and I've never worried about it enough to get heavily into tape trading (and it's always hard trading with these guys since they have what I already have. There might be some Mexican wrestling on TV, but if so it's on a station that's entirely Spanish that I rarely watch or a channel I don't get. Basically, if you put the shows on TV I'll watch em. If ROH got a TV deal, I'd watch them in a heartbeat. I'll probably watch NWA: TNA when it debuts, though it'll be on at the same time as OVW so something will have to be taped there.

I am sick of the constant RVD bashing on this forum. In this thread alone there have been comments like "Anyone saying RVD should be pushed need to be banned" and "RVD can't wrestle a lick." Can we please drop this shit at least until he gets back from injury? If he stinks up the joint after returning then fine, but just drop it.

I thought it was pretty good but did anyone else feel like it was 2 hours of a 3 hour movie? And really, it had some truly absurd coincidences that keep bringing the characters back together. If you watch it again you'll see what I mean....I can't see in a huge city like L.A. people crossing paths so often by accident.

Well sure Smackdown was better than Raw has been of late. Thing is, Raw is a blatant lame duck show on Spike TV at the moment. They are just doing whatever crap to get by until Oct. when the heavy hitters return on USA.

Why is that scenario so bad that someone should be banned for suggesting it? I'd take that scenario over "HHH beats Cena (or a transition champ Angle) and holds the belt till WM before the predictable job back to Cena." I actually saw a Cena/HHH match on a house show and believe me, it's going to SUCK.

WM 19's buyrate being bleh is due to a variety of things, but mainly I'd say it was due to their not being a real clear cut draw type match on the show. HHH/Booker? Decent RAW PPV main event, hardly a WM title match. Angle/Lesnar? Lesnar isn't really charismatic and it didn't help he made Team Angle chumps almost all the time. Vince/Hogan? Nobody wanted to see Vince in such a major match nor did anyone buy him as having a shot at beating Hogan. Austin/Rock? Jesus this was STALE by this point. At the end of the day WM 19 was a show that didn't really have a blowaway type match on it or anything you could point to and say "This is a mega main event draw." What does it say about the show's lasting appeal when I saw the PPV down in FL on vacation and never much cared about seeing it ever again and my parents and brother never even bothered to get it at all?

I watched the whole game today (ND/Michigan) and I wasn't terribly impressed with Notre Dame in it. Maybe the 1st drive but not much otherwise. Michigan fucked up so many times in that game: Henne's INT in the endzone, the idiotic fumble at the goal line, and so on. Notre Dame had what 60 yards in the 2nd half? Maybe they were just playing conservatively, I dunno.

Yeah because putting the title on Shawn and pushing him has always led to SOOO much money being drawn. I can tell you exactly what the finish needs to be here: Masters gets the masterlock, Shawn goes into the ropes, flips back on him, 1-2-3. Masters keeps it on after the bell and a slew of officials and jobbers has to break him off. Shawn gets the win, Masters keeps his finisher intact. How hard is that?

Anyone else interested in the Oregon St./Boise St. game today? I'm probably gonna check out a big of it on Fox Sports if nothing else than to see whether Oregon St. is any good or not (U of L plays em next week). That said I do like our chances against OR St. next week since it's at home and starts at noon, which is 9:00am for them.
