    The Summerslam Thread

In regards to Rey/Eddie, hey if all the wins Rey has gotten doesn't make him somewhat bulletproof to a job then it wasn't worth the effort of jobbing Eddie so many times. Look, Rey is simply not ever going to be a legit main event level guy...he's just way too small. WCW tried having Rey beat really huge guys like Nash and no one really bought it because it isn't believable. It also isn't getting Rey over because the fans are starting to seriously turn on him for beating Eddie so many times. I haven't seen a feud this one sided since RVD/Lynn and even then Lynn got a couple of pointless wins later on. Most of Rey's wins have been ultra cheap too, like last night with Dominick and Vicki and whoever running in. Or Eddie doing something stupid and Rey rolls him up from nowhere. Or a DQ. Further, what else is this feud building to if not an Eddie ass kicking win? I mean if Eddie just gets a lame "feet on the ropes" kind of win and then Rey beats him the next week in the blowoff that's going to kind of....suck. It is the Roadrunner/Coyote feud, where after a point everyone will get sick of the Roadrunner constantly winning and want the Coyote to eat him for lunch.

    Rumored Bret Hart DVD Matches

Okay what, Yokozuna has had better matches than RVD? I guess 10 minute long rest holds and nerve holds do it for you. Yoko fucking sucked, I haven't seen a match with him that would hardly escape DUD. I'm pretty sure those star ratings were just from various Keith rants. I wouldn't put the Strike Force match on there since the Harts job pretty convincingly. It was pretty good though, nice ***ish type match.

    Rumored Bret Hart DVD Matches

They mainly put the Bret/Goldberg on there since it was his last notable match for all intents and purposes. The match that ended his career. Dude, I was AT that Raw in 95 for the Hakushi match and that one rocks the friggin universe. Hakushi busts out a standing moonsault from IN the ring to the floor if I recall.

I'm assuming they wanted to get Dominick out of the storyline and the only way to do that is for Rey to win. If Eddie wins then Dominick is on TV for a long while in tedious skits with Eddie teaching him the Guerrero way. They might as well go with Batista/Orton now since Orton just beat UT and Eddie is SO not in contention right now. That's kinda what happens when you job to the same guy (who isn't a world title contender really) 7 times in one year. I'm telling you, they need to just do a big time Eddie beat down on Rey in a match where he takes him out 1-2-3, leaves him laying, and maybe that would be the equal of 7 jobs. Not a Benoit/OJ type squash but a serious match that is 20m or so, Eddie goes over clean and just beats holy hell out of Rey.

I wonder though, if the fans do consistently turn on Cena what is WWE's backup plan? Angle has never really worked long term as a face, oddly he gets cheered more when he's supposed to be a heel. Maybe Angle can be a kickass tweener? What this show illustrated more than anything is that there are a certain amount of guys that fans simply have respect for (Benoit, Angle, Eddie, even Jericho) and when they go against guys who in some way don't seem credible (Jordan, Eugene, even Cena when it comes to in ring work) the crowd goes with the more talented guy regardless of heel or face.

The only thing I would have liked better about the Benoit match would be if he truly destroyed Jordan for about 10 mins. I'm talking no offense for OJ, just a total "Dean Malenko beats the shit out of Disco Inferno" type ownage. Thing is, Orlando can't sell like Disco. Big Show had a pointless US title run but at least he's CREDIBLE holding the belt. Orlando Jordan holding it is a joke, the guy has literally no redeeming value as a wrestler. In fact I'd look for him to be fired as Chief of Staff soon and released. This was almost Warrior/HTM level markout though, although for different reasons. But then again I've made my opinion on Jordan and the GAB debacle known. One thing that has been lost in this is that SS is the first sign of the fans turning on Cena. I didn't think Jericho had enough heat or credibility to rally the fans against Cena, but man he sure did on this show. I'd say more of the crowd was for him. I said it in the "Fans turning on Cena" thread: Nobody turned on Cena while he was on Smackdown because he wasn't wrestling anyone worth a shit, just guys the fans have no respect for like JBL, Jordan, Suzuki, Dupree. Put him in there with someone worth a shit, even a jobbed out Jericho and the fans turn on him. Wait until they put him in with a now red hot Angle....the whole crowd will be for Kurt.

I'm not so worried about Shawn as I am Eddie. They have just BURIED Eddie this year, almost to the point where the fans are actively siding with him when in theory they are supposed to be for Rey. The really weird aspect of this feud is that winning all the time has totally killed Rey's heat. Rey isn't the sort of wrestler who should dominate a feud, he isn't credible or big enough for it (he works better getting his ass kicked a bunch of times, then maybe getting a win...it builds sympathy). Seriously, why should anyone sympathize with Rey right now? He's humiliated Eddie in every match, made fun of his past drug/alcohol addiction, and now Eddie's own wife has turned on him to deny Eddie custody of his biological son. That said, the result tonight was for the best since it gets Dominick out of the storyline. But really now, what's next for Eddie? If they end it now for good, he's jobbed SEVEN times to Rey and hasn't got 1 single win back. His career is down the tubes right now and he's so far out of title contention it's not even funny. At the end of the day that's what makes this feud so bizarre to me....Eddie is someone who can be pushed to the main event again, while Rey isn't a believable main eventer. Ask yourself this: Could Eddie beat Batista? Well he beat Brock, so yes he could. But could Rey? No way.

    The Summerslam Thread

Man, everyone is trashing this show it seems but hey, my goals for the evening were simple ones: 1. I wanted Orlando Jordan to get the shit kicked out of him. He did. 2. I wanted Batista to finally kill the god awful JBL push. He did. Look, some of these matches needed to be ass kicking squashes. Eugene had no business facing Angle, so he got his ass kicked and booed out of the building. My feelings towards this year's GAB have been documented on various threads, so of course I was overjoyed to see Benoit kill Jordan tonight (now release him). Hell, I know everyone is whining about Michaels jobbing like a bitch, but really look at the big picture. This is a matchup of two eras: 1980s WWF vs. mid 90s WWF. 80s WWF was insanely popular, mid 90s WWF was crap. The funny thing is that if this match had happened 10 years ago it would have been similar to what we saw tonight. If you look at this show for what it was you'll like it: An apology for the hideous GAB PPV and for some bleh Raws of late. Anyone sick of JBL, Jordan, Eugene, and the Eddie/Rey feud would be satisfied with this show tonight.

If Jericho wins there is no way he holds it more than a day or maybe 2 weeks. They have given no one a reason to think he has a hope in hell of winning here. As I said, all I want tonight is the Cabinet jobbing. If at the end of the night both JBL and Orlando are looking at the lights, I'll be satisfied.

    OVW Results Thread...

Last night's TV show was even more bizarre than this. Jeter came out and made fun of Cappotelli, calling him a cripple and even cut off his phone call (played aloud) to the Davis Arena. Brent Albright came out to confront Jeter, but the lockerroom emptied and they restrained Albright...and of course Jeter smashed him with a chair. Announcer Dean Hill then flipped out on Jeter, calling him an asshole, told him to fuck off, and then stormed off the set! Al Snow was getting set to fight Jeter and then the lockerroom guys surrounded Jeter in the ring. Danny Davis then came out and ordered the guys to the back. Then he proceeded to smack Jeter around and knock him down, until Jeter snapped and nailed him with the belt...and then whipped Davis with the title belt HARD several times as the show went off.
  11. The only Orton match I'd say is really worth going out of the way to see is the Foley streetfight match. Other than that one I find most of his stuff bland and uninteresting. I don't think he has "it."

    40 year old virgin

As I said I liked the movie but I almost wish there was a comedy that was totally goofy shit. It seems like all the comedies I've seen of late have some real serious stuff going on. I found 40 Year Old Virgin funny but yet sad at times really...some aspects were very real and not at all funny (not that it wasn't entertaining). Wedding Crashers got a bit serious in the last 1/4 as well, ditto the Longest Yard (though that serious subplot is a carryover from the original). How about some really crazy Naked Gun type humor? A movie that is literally a laugh a minute.

Maria is also on OVW and she's a sweetie on there. I liked on there last week Brent Albright was intense waiting for someone to arrive and she was like "Brent Albright, what are you doing looking at the door?" I too was puzzled as to why Ken Anderson is now Ken Kennedy. Is there some purpose behind this name change?

    College Football is almost back

Kingofthe909, I did hear that Oregon St. kicker didn't miss anything the rest of the season...but let's face it, what does anyone remember about the guy? His 3 missed PATs vs. LSU that single handedly cost them that game.

I don't think U of L's schedule is all that easy really. It's not like being in the SEC or anything but here it is: UK (this should be cake but who knows with rivalries). Oregon St. (glad this one is at home...do they still have that crappy kicker?). South FL (should win this, but they did beat us two years ago). FL Atlantic (squash, this is Schnellenberger's coming home game). UNC (might be pretty decent though we killed em last year) WVU (this is on the road and a possible loss) Cincy (we'll beat the shit out of them) Pitt (very tough game, thankfully at home) Rutgers (dunno much about them, should be them fairly handily here) Syracuse (they could be pretty decent, but should be a win) UConn (on the road this might be a possible ambush) Basically I'd just like U of L to go about 9-2 and make the BCS for the first year in the Big East. I figure at WVU is the best chance at a loss, and maybe one like Pitt or UConn.

Yeah it looks like it will be the #1 movie this week based on the Friday box office thus far. The budget was about 26 million so it won't have to do THAT much business to be solid. Am I the only one who found him maybe a bit too lame at times though? I mean a 40 year old man apparently from S. CA who can't drive a car? Otherwise I enjoyed the movie.

Is Shawn Michaels really turning heel?

Hogan would be the face I think vs. Austin. Austin is now in that bad place that Hogan was in circa 1993 or so, namely that he's about 7 years from his peak of popularity. Austin is someone very much of his particular time period, whereas I think Hogan is a more timeless character.
  18. What was this Raw classic they had last year? I know I saw it since it was the day after SS but I don't really remember much about it...was this the show where HHH and Evolution turned on Orton post match? Nobody is really talking about it because it was...just a match. Nothing amazing really, just what you'd expect with those guys given 20 mins.

Your 3 new Inductees into the WON Hall of Fame...

Well you can say that Heyman at least innovated a different style with ECW...Bischoff however? Let's face it, the guy tried to destroy the WWF in the mid 90s, eventually did get the best of ECW by raiding the roster, and then mismanaged his own company and got canned. In other words Bischoff had a major hand in WCW's demise, ECW's demise, and tried his best to hurt the WWF. I can see why he wouldn't be in.

Will one night stand stand the test of time

It's just an aesthetic feeling really. WM 17 ends in a negative light while WM 3 ends happily. That's really what it comes down to in the end. If WM 17 had ended with Austin winning, not turning heel, and then shaking the Rock's hand I might feel different about the show. It's still a great, great show either way.

Why the hell does Canada love Hogan?

I think it is also due to WM 6 where he may have lost to the Warrior but it was a really huge show done at the Sky Dome and I think Canadians still have a fond memory of it.

    Brosnan out as 007

Jason Statham is cool but I don't think he's really a very suave, ladies man type. He looks more like an English Bruce Willis What happened to that Daniel Craig dude anyway? He was rumored for Bond a while ago and I didn't think that made much sense.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

I loved the quote about Bischoff saying the new look Nitro would do a 7.0. The hilarious thing is that I remember reading that at the time and they never really hyped that they were changing the set! One week on TV DDP and Hogan had a match and destroyed the old set...and then the next week they just kinda debuted the new set with little fanfare. I doubt they'd have done a 7.0 anyway but shouldn't they have hyped this new look?

Yeah I agree that bringing Bret in to ref this match would be on short notice. They've mentioned him but having him actually show this quick might not be the best thing. Oh, and in regards to this Edge thing....does anyone care about this subtle difference in the WWE title and World title? Let's face it, all Edge is going to get is a quick match at a nothing PPV or even Raw where he jobs to Cena and that'll be his title shot. Anyway, predictions: Hogan vs HBK Winner: Hogan, though I have no idea. There's a million different ways this could go. Batista vs JBL Winner: Batista. I think my views on this one are well known. Put the title on JBL again, I boycott Smackdown. Cena vs Jericho Winner: Cena. Jericho hasn't a hope in hell. OJ vs Benoit Winner: Benoit, hopefully in a total squash. My thoughts on Jordan are established as well. Rey vs Eddie Winner: Eddie. I've heard Eddie is next in line at Batista so he's got to win at SOME point and get this feud over with. Angle vs Eugene Winner: Angle, in a total ownage. Give Dinsmore a new gimmick. Hell, tag him with Conway. Matt Hardy vs Edge Winner: No one, I think it'll be a crazy double DQ. Undertaker vs Randy Orton Winner: I'm one of the few who will say UT. Orton has screwed UT over of late and while he might get a win in a later blowoff, Taker might win this one. If Eddie is next for Batista then they might as well hold off on Orton going after Batista.
