  1. If I'm Edge I'd be pissed about this....not only does he not get the WWE title match at SS but he's going to have to face the guy whose chick he was fucking on the side. Can't say I'm saddened by it though.

    British Bulldog

The two matches aren't really comparable in either style or tone. The SS 92 match was a scientific match between two guys who really liked each other, whereas the WM 13 match was a bitter feud between two guys who wanted to kill each other. I'd have to put the SS 92 match ahead of WM 13 for a couple of reasons. 1. It just meant more to me personally and signified the end of the old style WWF (SS 92 in general was the last sweeping epic type PPV before WM 17). 2. The match is a feel good story, the hometown boy Bulldog wins the IC title, makes up with Bret, Diana gets in the ring and celebrates....hell I get misty eyed thinking about it. 3. To my way of thinking a classic scientific match will always be better than a classic garbage brawl....garbage wrestling is at the end of the day still garbage wrestling and really beneath someone of Bret's talent. 4. The Bret/Austin match has a dramatic visual as a finish, but the finish in the end is still a cheap way of not having anyone say I Quit. At the time it amazed me that Austin kept going with his "Toughest SOB in the WWF" gimmick...I thought "Dude if you were that tough you would have WON the match. Bret beat your ass, thus to me he's tougher."

What Do You Think Eddie's Secret Is ?

Has Rey ever tried to book anything before? And further, why would Eddie go along with all of this stuff considering it might make him out as a child molester in addition to jobbing constantly? I mean if he was going to molest Dominic couldn't he at least win a few against Rey? Let's face it, if it just turns out to be "Eddie is Dominic's dad" then this is lame. If it turns out to be Eddie the Molester then it's REALLY bad and UPN will step in again, haha.

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

Ultimate Warrior over Papa Shango Randy Savage over Ric Flair Bret Hart over Shawn Michaels LOD over the Beverly Bros. British Bulldog over Repo Man UT over Berserker Tatanka over Rick Martel Let's see if I can recall. Macho and Flair feuded throughout the year, in fact they kept dicking around until after they had BOTH jobbed out in the world title scene and Bret had the title. By this point Razor and Perfect got involved, and the whole thing was dropped soon after since Flair was leaving. There was maybe 1 TV bout on Superstars where Flair won the title, but that's about it....no conclusive blowoff. Warrior/Shango as mentioned was just dropped after a point. Bret/Shawn was totally dropped as a feud and then finally they did have a match at S. Series but it wasn't the same feud I didn't think, if that makes any sense. Bret had long since lost the IC and won the world title. LOD/Bevs was never blown off on even Prime Time Wrestling, as LOD just started feuding with Money Inc. again until they left. Bulldog/Repo was likewise dropped without any mention. Ditto UT/Berserker as they brought in Kamala and forgot this angle. The only one of these that was legit blown off in my view was Tatanka/Martel, as Tatanka finally reclaimed his feathers and won at Series 92. I actually saw Bulldog at a TV taping the night right after he lost the IC title and he squashed the Berserker. It seems odd to put him over someone strongly like that if he was just going to be fired.

    The Hummer Angle

Oh man, you have no idea. Actually I think the "Who hit Austin?" angle was a spoof in some ways of how horrible and contrived the Hummer angle was. I know it was the first thing I thought when I saw Austin get hit..."Oh God, now the WWF is doing their own Hummer angle!" The only reason the Austin angle lasted so long is due to his long injury. It was forgotten till he returned, then Foley went around investigating and revealed the "blonde driver" was Rikishi. At least the Austin angle had a payoff (even if it killed Rikishi's career).

    UPN Bans Hassan Permanently

If they had put the world title on fucking Hassan I would have had to boycott Smackdown. I mean that's just....god, I can't believe they would even consider it. And this better fucking not lead to JBL winning tomorrow. Look, just have UT win and then have Batista win. Then at SS you do Batista/UT to further put Batista over. I mean I assume they are building to Batista/Lesnar at some point when Brock returns....who would buy that if Batista went around jobbing to a bum like Hassan?

What Do You Think Eddie's Secret Is ?

In Taz's defense he actually did start to quiz Eddie on his possible relationship with Rey's wife. To be honest I have no idea what this secret is if it's not Eddie being Dominic's real father...or maybe Uncle Eddie: Child Molester. Either way I am compelled right now but I have a feeling once it's revealed it could seriously kill both Eddie and Rey's careers.

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

What was the whole story behind Bulldog losing the IC title to Michaels in late 92? I bought one of those Survivor Series 92 programs and it actually had Bulldog/Mountie listed as the IC title match, but somewhere it ended up the odd choice for main event Bret/Shawn with both men holding titles. I was stunned to hear 1992 was the most financially disasterous year for the WWF considering I love that year. Rumble was great, WM was good, SS 92 is one of my favorite shows ever, and S. Series was good as well. I think what happened was that in the spring/summer post WM there was an incredibly stale house show circuit where jack shit was happening. Literally every house show for 3 months had: Ultimate Warrior over Papa Shango Randy Savage over Ric Flair Bret Hart over Shawn Michaels LOD over the Beverly Bros. British Bulldog over Repo Man UT over Berserker Tatanka over Rick Martel It didn't help that none of these feuds ever really had a legit blowoff on a PPV or on TV, aside from maybe Tatanka/Model.

But here is the thing....having a guy pretend to be the discriminated against Arab would be fine....if the guy was actually Arab! By the way his name is actually Mark Copani, I read that on imdb.com. Magnus is his OVW name. I don't know of a single way you can do this without killing the guy's career. Virtually any angle would involve him admitting he isn't an Arab, and thus the fans will turn on him viciously. If they just repackage him and ignore the Hassan gimmick then a decent amount of people will realize and turn on him, or flat out not give a shit about him since he isn't any good anyway.

So when is RVD coming back?

Well to some degree RVD was handcuffed in ways Heyman wasn't. If RVD insulted half the WWE roster he'd eventually have to show up and work with those guys in the ring. Heyman on the other hand just said whatever he wanted and badmouthed everyone, knowing it didn't matter at the end of the night. There's one problem with RVD turning heel: Raw desperately needs someone, ANYONE that the fans actually like. The face side of Raw is horrendous right now, and RVD could be in good shape on the face side as the #2 guy behind Cena. After that just wait for the inevitable Cena backlash and they'll have little choice but try him.
  11. cabbageboy

So when is RVD coming back?

He needs to stay away from that direction unless they're planning to turn him heel. Making the occasional insider comment is fine but I honestly can't think of anyone who ever got over by bemoaning their fate in every interview (Bret I suppose but this ended up hurting his career in the long run). I think the reason this doesn't work is that for it to work it implies that you are booked to lose or not say the right things, which shatters the illusion of wrestling. Yes, people know that wrestling is booked....but for the most part, no one wants this actively discussed on TV. In an example of how this should work within the worked wrestling environment, RVD should just come back, make no real allusions to being held back by writers, and just speak up more on TV. Which I think is what will happen, since ONS isn't a recognized show in the WWE universe aside from whatever the invaders did.

    UPN Bans Hassan Permanently

Oh I agree. The main point is that now we're at least spared a really wretched direction of Hassan main eventing. I personally don't think Magnus has a hope in hell of amounting to anything at this point...the only reason he got as much TV time as he did was his ultra cheap heat gimmick. Without that crutch he's merely going to be another substandard OVW guy, and not a terribly talented one at that. I actually saw Magnus at an OVW taping and he made zero impression as anyone who had skills (then again, neither did Carlito or most of the OVW roster). I think The Rock's success really was bad in one aspect. Since he got so good by his 2nd or 3rd year they now think they can take any rookie trainee and make him a world champion within 3 years. Thing is, hardly anyone has that once in a lifetime charisma.
  13. cabbageboy

So when is RVD coming back?

It was hardly horrible, but it depends on the direction he goes in from here. If he drifts back into his near silent stoner schtick then it was a waste of time, but if it sends him off in another direction then I'd think it was fairly successful. The best mic work RVD has ever done was at Barely Legal in his post match rant against ECW, where he said he was making himself available to whoever wanted him on Monday nights. This was a prime example of how RVD should be used on the mic: He was given a general direction to go in (namely the WWF/ECW crossover) and went from there. The ONS "shoot" was totally adlibbed stuff that had no ties to a current storyline.

    Hulk Hogan has Creative Control?

To some extent I see Hogan's point on a bit of this. The way Lesnar crushed him the first time having Hogan come back only to get stomped again wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. Thing is, neither would jobbing Brock out to the old Hogan. Basically that one shouldn't have been booked.

    UPN Bans Hassan Permanently

Do you know how many bad angles UT has been involved with? When I first read the spoilers for this angle it reminded me of RR 94 with 10 idiots tossing UT in the casket. I think that's more of what they were going for to be honest, just your typical cheesy Taker angle. I think there's a world of difference between Owen not wanting to do an angle with Debra and Hassan not wanting to be portrayed as a terrorist. It's hard to say really because I don't know what Magnus was thinking...maybe he wanted to do this angle. I'm fairly sure they didn't realize the uproar it would cause, it was mostly horrible timing. Incidentally the Owen argument is a bizarre one since I kinda doubt they set him up to die as Blue Blazer in revenge for him not wanting to do the Debra angle. In fact he was likely to win the IC title from the Godfather at that PPV. Anyway, I have no idea what you do with Hassan now. He'll be back down here on OVW but I have no idea what new gimmick he'd do. I say just put a mask on him or something. Bring him back up, have them wonder "Who is this masked man?" to get him moderately over, then have him be unmasked revealing that he's Hassan. From there he does a sitdown interview and attempts to explain things. Either that or just release him.

    Triple H Update

Yeah I don't think anyone would argue Bockwinkel couldn't wrestle or didn't deserve to be a champ at any point....it's just that his act got incredibly stale and fans wanted Hogan, but Gagne didn't put the title on Hogan.

    UPN Bans Hassan Permanently

Well, I'm not saying Magnus should have refused the initial gimmick...he probably just thought he'd end up playing the usual evil foreigner and get some cheap heat. Whatever to get to the big time. I can see why he didn't refuse to do the gimmick. I refer more to the recent angle. Hassan has at least been around a slight amount of time now, so yes I think he should have said "This isn't something my character would do." I should think some of it is because he's not really an Arab, thus it all amounts to play acting. Look, they wouldn't release a guy that they've invested some serious TV time in for refusing to do one really stupid and potentially offensive angle. At the end of the day UPN is doing them a favor. SS with Batista/Hassan would have tanked horribly (though the show still might), whereas Batista/UT might have some interest.

    Quite Frankly

You know, if they're going to have these guest hosts on PTI why not to Mariotti/Woody? Thus, Paige can still do his Cold Pizza and 1st and 10 stuff on a monitor (like Buster Olney has done of late with Bayless) and then host PTI with Mariotti. It'd be nirvana for all the Woody Paige marks out there.

So when is RVD coming back?

Shelton Benjamin??? The guy is getting frequent boos against fucking CARLITO of all people. You think he's in any way over enough to put in a main event face spot? If anything I think he might make a more natural main event level heel. The Jericho claim is dubious as well, observe: Rock, Austin, Angle, Benoit. RVD has beaten the Rock nearly every time they fought aside from the one WCW title match where Steph did a botched run in. RVD beat Austin a lot cleaner than Jericho did as well (Angle's music played vs. the NWO run in ). RVD beat holy hell out of Kurt quite a few times, especially the time he won and left Angle bloody. RVD also beat Benoit in the oh so trashed SS 02 encounter to blow off that pseudo feud.

So when is RVD coming back?

These arguments against RVD are silly. RVD does in fact have more credibility than Jericho. Head to head I'd say RVD has beaten Jericho twice as many times as Jericho has beaten him. Sure, Jericho held the world title but it was that very title push that ended up killing his credibility. Orton doesn't draw shit and is a bland in ring wrestler. Cena might be over but I've said this a million times on here...it's because he's GETTING PUSHED. Yeah he might be more popular than RVD at this exact moment, but it's because he's getting pushed. Also, how is RVD stale when he's been injured for most of the year and when he did return on the Cabana he got a huge response? The past 2 times I've seen him (ONS and the Cabana) he did seem like he's changing his laid back stoner character, so that argument doesn't fly either. All I'm saying is this. It's only a matter of time before the fans turn on Cena. It's going to happen, the very nature of his wigger gimmick makes it a certainty. Thus, Raw is going to need someone that the fans actually like and really RVD is the guy who makes the most sense right now. Who else is in a position to be a major face on Raw?
  21. Even if something this silly happened I hardly think it'd be the main event of WM. It might be a goofy special attraction type match. What's this hard on some people have for the Warrior anyway? Sure maybe 7 or 8 years ago some wondered what happened to him and wanted to see him again, but after the fiasco of Halloween Havoc 98 I never wanted to see him again EVER.

Lushus, Carlito doesn't even cheat like nuts. He does the ho hum routine "heel puts feet on ropes or grabs ropes" crap that was tired by 1990. He's literally like if you made HTM into a Puerto Rican. Honky was also crap for the most part but at least he could sell. Isn't it interesting whenever it comes time to push some Evil Foreign Heel that circumstances get in the way? Hell, they were going to put the title on LUDVIG BORGA back in the day, but thankfully he got hurt and that was scrapped and Bret ended up getting the title again. Same case here. Also, pushing Hassan to the main of SS is idiotic beyond just the gimmick. He's in no position to main event. This guy just got squashed in 3 mins. by Cena in his last Raw match...are people just supposed to forget this and buy a PPV with him headlining? Hell, Hassan had all the heat of Rob Conway in La Res and Conway is the far better wrestler.

    OAO Great American Bash Thread

The only thing I can think of is that she is pissed at hubby Kidman getting released. Anyone know of another possible reason? World Championship Batista © vs. John Bradshaw Layfield.....I can't see them bringing Batista over to SMDN and jobbing him quickly. Besides, Batista/UT is a new matchup and JBL/UT was shitty last year at SS. WWE Tag Team Championship MNM © vs. Road Warrior Animal & Heidenreich.....I'm almost tempted to say the New LOD, but I think common sense will prevail. MNM. U.S. Championship Orlando Jordan © vs. Chris Benoit....If Jordan wins I am possibly smashing my TV. This should be a total Malenko/Disco asskicking, just 10 mins or so of Benoit utterly killing Orlando. Jordan is garbage, he's the most heatless guy with a title maybe ever, and at least Benoit could restore some competence to the US title. Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio If Eddie wins, he will tell Rey's "secret". If he loses, he will never reveal it. Doesn't much matter who wins as long as the secret is revealed. Eddie seriously needs to get the win here and reveal the secret, but I can also see him being a dick and revealing it anyway out of spite if he loses. After all, he lies, cheats, and steals. Number One Contender Match The Undertaker vs. Muhammad Hassan....Thankfully this whole Hassan debacle is going to prevent him from picking up a screwy win and becoming #1 contender. Maybe UT will bury him in cement a la Paul Bearer? Bra & Panties Match Special Referee: Candice Michelle Melina vs. Torrie Wilson....I'll say Torrie wins, simply because everyone's seen her nearly nude (or totally nude) and we haven't checked out Melina much yet. Booker T vs. Christian....I think Booker T, since he just did a mega job to Christian on SMDN and needs to regain some credibility. The Mexicools vs. The BWO....Mexicools, for simply being the better team.

The most horrible thing ever would be a Smith/Bayless show though. I've seen the Old School/New School segments and remember them doing PTI last year, and lord did they suck. They shouldn't have two guys who are both annoying blowhards....1st and 10 works better simply because Bayless' boorish act is countered by Woody.

    UPN Bans Hassan Permanently

Actually, yes he should have said no to the recent UT angle. Look, these writers are dipshits...but the thing is no one simply says "This idea is retarded, I refuse." I'm not saying he needs to become Shawn Michaels circa 1995 in terms of being a backstage nightmare, but he can't say "No, having a bunch of terrorists attack UT is not the direction I'd like to take my character in?" Having read Foley's book I didn't get the impression Vince was one to fire someone for disagreeing. Upon being given the gimmick Mason the Mutilator and a costume of chain mail, Foley simply told Vince "I hate this gimmick, can't we do something else?" The problem Hassan has is that his character was so patently offensive that it'll be hard to do a "real life" piece along the lines of the Mankind and Goldust things that JR did. It also doesn't help that 99% of the audience has never heard of Mark Magnus (while most had heard of Cactus Jack and Dustin Rhodes) so it wouldn't have much perspective. The silver lining of this debacle hasn't been mentioned all that much: At least we don't have to watch this sap main event SummerSlam now.
