Velocity just aired here Benoit vs. Regal

Yeah I think this is really just a tryout for a potential feud. They can't possibly come up with a single reason why Orlando Jordan should retain at the PPV. If he does, can you just imagine the bitching and bile on the net? Put this on a PPV, give it 15-20.

    House Show Report

Well I am likely going to the Louisville house show tomorrow so we'll get this same card. An ominous sign for the future that Edge is being replaced by HHH in these matches with Cena.

WWE 24/7 Recieves Clearance on Cox Cable

It's really weird. When someone says WWF they beep out the F, but when someone says World Wrestling Federation that is ok. If you can figure that one out you're good. Bah, I wanted to see GAB 90 too. Sting beats Flair for the title...Midnights vs. Southern Boys, Mean Mark on a PPV...

WWE 24/7 Recieves Clearance on Cox Cable

Yeah Alro, I actually got the Insight WWE 24/7 this week. I watched most of Foley's Greatest Hits and Misses, BATB 96, I did a DVD recording of WM 7, and watched some ECW on there too. I want more, dammit! I heard they are going to show GAB 90, which I wanna tape as well.

    Why is Cena.....

The RVD/Angle pseudo feud was a bit more important than given credit. It was that little mini feud that to me seriously hurt Angle's chances at ever being a top level face. RVD at that point was a heel in the Alliance (albeit cheered like mad) and the crowd responded to Van Dam more than Angle whenever they had a match. It was also the zenith of the time when RVD was busting people open left and right. Who could forget Kurt being left in a bloody mess in the SMDN match that gave Austin his title shot by proxy? I guess quite a few people. As far as Cena goes, he's like a more mainstream version of The Truth. Actually the Truth would have more street cred (he's actually black and doing the rapper thing, which helps). And frankly Cena's title run will likely end up similar.

    The Boogeyman

Leviathan: Conjured up by Synn from the depths of the Ohio River. A Demon who shall haunt and torment all in OVW. Pretty decent gimmick, in a cheese USWA sort of way. The funny thing about this Cornette thing is that apparently word hasn't gotten out yet to everyone here in town. On the radio they had Jimmy Hart call in to 100.5 The Fox and he talked with Tony Vanetti (local DJ and occasional OVW heel) about what a good job Cornette was doing with OVW!

    The Boogeyman

This is what I'm saying...Cornette smacked this kid around and cost himself his job over...THE BOOGEYMAN????? Even if the kid laughed at it, shouldn't this be more of a sign to Cornette that maybe this Boogeyman guy kinda, you know, sucks? But hey what the hell, bring him up. If WWE is going to suck they might as well have some truly shitty gimmicks that people can have some fun laughing at.

OAO SD! Thread July 14th 05

No really, has there been a decent theory on what the secret is? Everything seems to be either "Eddie is Dominick's real father" or "Eddie is a repressed homo" or "Eddie is a child molester." I have to admit I am intrigued to some extent but I have a feeling that this is going to be really, really BAD when it's revealed. I'm assuming Eddie has to win at the PPV so he can reveal it. No one has ever answered the question I posed a while back: Why are they jobbing Eddie out to Rey so much? Let's face it, Rey is simply not a heavyweight title contender, so giving him all these wins over Eddie doesn't really do much for his upward mobility (we all know Batista would kill Rey, ditto JBL) so I'm baffled as to what the point of this is. Eddie has just turned heel and with a couple of wins he's right back in the title hunt, and unlike Rey he actually could beat someone like Batista. Very odd booking.

OAO SD! Thread July 14th 05

This Eddie/Rey secret angle is a storyline that seems like it could seriously kill Eddie's career if it's what has been hinted at. I mean seriously could Eddie's career survive being "Uncle Eddie, Molester."

Band who reached their potential too early

Yeah I'll admit that Supertzar is a silly theatrical song, it's probably the only thing on Sabotage I usually skip (that and the minor instrumental separating tracks 1 and 3). As far as The Writ goes, the strings and Ozzy's over the top delivery near the end is the sort of thing that's kept parodists happy for decades.

    Why is Cena.....

I'm actually kinda hoping they do a non finish to the inevitable Carlito/RVD match. As in RVD wins by DQ and Carlito retains, etc. There's a lot of potentially good matches for RVD and Carlito is NOT one of them. RVD/HBK could work now since HBK is a heel (before they tried it face/face). RVD/Angle is one of the better mini feuds that never quite became a major feud. RVD/Shelton is a good potential matchup too. If RVD is booked to not be a total jobber he'll get more over with the crowd than Cena. Being from the mean streets of Battle Creek, RVD has that street cred, yo. :-P

    The Boogeyman

Not sure what you mean by "Who saw him?" I mean this was widely reported on virtually every wrestling website, so the entire OVW roster must have seen it.

    Why is Cena.....

I'm sure Boston, like a lot of towns, has some bad neighborhoods. But I mean it'd be like me saying I'm from the street since I'm from Louisville....yeah Louisville has some bad areas too but it's hardly like saying "I'm from the mean streets of Detroit." Sure Cena isn't as much of a wigger as Jamie Kennedy in that movie, or the kid from the Pretty Fly For a White Guy video. He has to be taken seriously to some degree. I'll tell you what Cena reminds me of, because I've seen the type. The sort of white guy who will listen to rap, be influenced by black culture, but not really like any black people. And the Road Dog entertaining?? When was this?
  15. cabbageboy

    Why is Cena.....

Yeah Cena was a great heel about the point where he was feuding with Eddie over the US title. In fact the parking lot match on SMDN was Cena's best match until the JBL I Quit topped it. Cena is becoming the singles version of the Nasty Boys: Excels in hardcore matches, but for the most part sucks ass in a standard match unless someone carries him (Angle=Hart Foundation, Benoit =Steiners). I can't help but think when I watch Cena that a better looking, better build Road Dog is holding the WWE title. Let's face it, the guy's matches look like Road Dog matches.

Band who reached their potential too early

I'm not saying Sabbath's debut album isn't a landmark milestone. It's just a difficult listen in some ways, especially the exhausting Warning with all the Iommi soloing. It's fun at first but in the end is FF material. The Satan stuff is hit or miss I think....NIB is still chilling and one of Sabbath's best songs, but the title song is campy. Take a look at Sabotage: Hole in the Sky (awesome song), Symtom of the Universe (really awesome song), Megalomania (probably Sab's best prog type song), Thrill of It All (quite decent), Am I Going Insane (ok there's some synth here but it's catchy), The Writ (another awesome prog epic). It's just a matter of preference but I'll take this over the 1st album, though I do admit Sabbath got too into the prog stuff after Sabotage.
  17. cabbageboy

    What Bands

Yeah but you overstate the actual hooks on Weezer's debut. They flat out aren't that great, Buddy Holly aside. No One Else? Decent little song, but nothing I'd write home about. My Name is Jonas? It's ok, I can listen to it every now and then, but nothing to send to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's a nice album, but when you only have 10 songs they better all be great and there's some uninspired stuff on it.
  18. cabbageboy

    Why is Cena.....

Well the hilarious thing about Cena looking like a suburban wigger that isn't from the street is that, well, that's true. I mean the guy is from a suburb of Boston, isn't he? I'm not sure where W. Newbury is but it hardly sounds like the guy is from Compton or East St. Louis. MA is associated with bluebloods, Irish drunks, and paranoid Red Sox fans. It's not exactly a place to be from if you want thug street cred.

Band who reached their potential too early

The whole Sabbath argument is a misguided one. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage are both really awesome albums and showed the band going in some interesting directions. I'd take either of those over the muddy sounding Vol. 4, and I dare say I might take either over the debut (never cared for the 10 mins. of Iommi soloing, and the title track is a bit theatrical for my taste).

    It's that time again

Whitlock is ok on the Sports Reporters but there he has Lupica, Ryan, Albom, etc. to call him out on whatever bullshit he comes up with. When he actually gets to present an entire side of an argument that's when he comes off like a dick. As far as the 400 lb. ladies man goes, hey it works for Viscera. As far as LeBatard goes, does he really play the heel? If so I'd say it's X-Pac type heat cause you can hear everyone around the country groan when he shows up.

    The Boogeyman

Oh I dunno who that guy was that Cornette smacked around. Just some OVW student who was paying his own way. The student cracked up laughing at the SCARY Boogeyman and Cornette smacked him around backstage for ruining the segment.

    OAO WWE released talent/staff thread

Well Cornette being released was another story. He was fired over smacking the OVW student around due to the kid laughing at The Boogeyman.

    The Boogeyman

I'm hazy on that whole late era USWA, but I do remember the fake Razor showing up. Whatever happened to that guy? The USWA stuff I remember was more like the 1992-93 period, with the Moondogs wreaking havoc (manager Richard Williams blew a whistle in an annoying Alfonso precursor). I also remember a guy called the Spellbinder, who had a cup of coffee in the WWF with a cheesy magic gimmick. He was pretty good on USWA.

    The return of Matt Hardy!!!

The amusing thing is on the weekend recap shows they edited that little bit of business, with Cactus and Funk showing up at the end. I think when they did this Kane/Edge feud and people wanted Matt back I pondered this exact storyline flaw. In storyline Lita was still with Matt but forced to marry Kane. It would take an admission of "This is all bullshit, Lita and Kane were never married" for it to work. I mean yeah everyone KNOWS they weren't married, but this is wrestling and thus pretending is a part of it.
  25. cabbageboy

    The Boogeyman

Yeah but the USWA fucking ruled. OVW is basically like a feeder system version of the USWA (OVW being Louisville, whereas the USWA was Memphis). In fact announcer Dean Hill worked for both leagues and OVW in its infancy used to advertise on USWA TV. The Christmas Creature was something that fascinated me at the time, roughly late 1992/early 93. Take away the Christmas lights and such and it's really not hugely different from Kane's 1998 look. What needs to be said is this however. These shitty gimmicks were great on the USWA because the promotion made no attempt to really be a REAL promotion. It was a 2nd tier regional league that pushed Lawler and Jeff Jarrett, and had a bunch of guys with laughable gimmicks. I still miss Sat. morning Memphis wrestling, it was the shit.
