I dunno about the fucking Lita part on live TV but maybe they could make out or something like that while Matt watches. I'm telling you, Edge could get all sorts of insane heel heat out of this Lita thing, because it would be acknowledging that they do in fact listen to people chanting at the arena. Thing is they'd have to bring Matt back for any of it to work. I do think that Edge has to win the title at some point in this angle. To win the tourney and have the money in the bank shot and lose both would forever kill his chances at the main event. He can lose the first time but he has to win on the 2nd.

Something mentioned on Raw about ECW ONS
cabbageboy replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in The WWE Folder
Look, they HAD to do some kind of advertising of this PPV. I think what they meant by it not being heavily promoted is that it simply doesn't fit in with whatever storylines they have on Raw (which makes sense). It isn't a storyline driven PPV, it is a bunch of guys who worked for ECW getting together to kick it old school. I'm probably one of the few who agrees with the Hammerstein locale over the ECW Arena. Let's face it, the ECW Arena was a shithole and it looked like something a bunch of hack indie guys would wrestle in. The Hammerstein looked like a small venue but it had some amount of class. -
Nah, Rey is simply too small to be a believable world champ. I mean it is called the heavyweight title for a reason, you have to be so big to compete for it. Rey might be US title worthy though.

This Raw wasn't as good as last week's show by any means, and I think some of it had to do with HHH just killing all joy out of the gate. I'm glad he's gone home or whatever for the time being, cause this whole "Wahh, I want my belt" bullshit is REALLY getting old. Batista did have several good points, stuff like "I beat you for the title, won the rematch, you lost 1st round of the tourney...you aren't fit for a shot." Oh and no one mentioned but he jobbed to JR. I don't think next week is exactly right for a Lita turn. I have no idea if Kane is a heel or face at this point, so he could play heel vs. Batista and then more of a face vs. Edge if Lita turns later on. They haven't had any real build for a Lita turn, aside from everyone knowing the deal with her and Edge. Anyone besides me miss Chris Masters tonight? I kept waiting for him to interrupt Stacy tonight, but got Simon Dean instead. Bah.

To be honest I don't think Raw at this point cares much about the whole heel/face thing. I mean they've been having Jericho and Shelton fight each other despite both being faces, and Kane/Viscera made no sense on a heel/face level either. So you could have Angle just say "Punk you are stealing my challenge gimmick, now I'll break your lame little hold." Gotta love those shadings of gray.

My brother and I have a running joke about how bad Chris Masters sucks. It's to the point where I actively look forward to his appearance on Raw just to see my bro run for the hills, dive on the floor with his head in his hands, etc. Oddly enough I think that this and the Angle Invitational could have a crossover if Kurt is traded to Raw. Let him break the Master Lock, then Masters can go after the gold medals. If they really wanna elevate this bum that'd be the easiest way to do it.

You know it's funny but whenever I go back and listen to these older Pearl Jam albums it makes me wonder why these guys got so popular. I suppose it is the nearly 15 years of constant overplay on the radio but I can't hardly stomach Jeremy, Alive, or Evenflow anymore. The more I hear them the more I pick up on how dull and overly long the songs are, how much pointless jamming PJ was prone to. PJ was the safest grunge band, not as bizarre and punk inspired as Nirvana, not as dark and hard as Alice in Chains or Soundgarden. Hell, when I first got a PJ CD I put it on and listened to it with my parents and it didn't annoy or offend them, and isn't that half the fun? I guess that's why they sold so many records, they didn't really scare or offend much of anyone. It's funny but I remember getting two CDs around Christmas in 1993: PJ's Vs. and Nirvana's In Utero. I listened to Vs. first and it was...ok. Nothing real thrilling, nothing terrible, just there. Then I put on In Utero and it grabbed me by the balls and didn't let go, it stunned me. Anyway, as far as local radio goes, 100.5 the Fox plays Metallica and Tool stuff out the ass. APC as well. It's funny since The Fox is a station preferred by the redneck elements of the city, as compared to 105.1 which is the more alternative station. I think Tool and APC have a more redneck following than some think, haha. Not sure WHY exactly but it seems to be the case here in Louisville.

Well, half of these current series could be cool but it depends. I think we all know Spurs/Sonics is a shitfest, especially if Ray Allen is injured. The Heat/Wizards series should be a jobber squash as well. I think the Suns/Mavs series is easily the best 2nd round series, but why would the Suns winning it all be a shock? I mean they had the best record in the league. The Pacers/Pistons series could be interesting but it depends. This is one series where there NEEDS to be violent thugging and gooning. If not the games will be really awful, boring, low scoring, and badly played. It would actually benefit from some Knicks/Heat style brawling and weirdness.

Well if he is convicted of tax evasion he'd be a bit preoccupied with prison to continue his career, wouldn't he? I doubt Selig would officially ban him, it'd be one of those Canseco deals (pre book) where it would be understood that NO ONE could employ the guy. At this point they can't possibly have Bonds break the record though.

I saw the film today and no it really isn't as good as Gladiator if you want to compare it. The main problem is that Balian's motivation isn't as clear or interesting as Maximus. Max basically had his family killled and wanted to fuck up the Romans, the Emperor, etc. Balian has this vague motivation to repent his sins and his dead wife's by going to Jerusalem and all that, it is difficult to put into a short summary when explaining to someone who might want to see it. Here's some spoilers: The movie starts off fine with Neeson saying he's his dad and all that, but then man once Liam dies the movie dies with him for the next 30 mins or so. The whole section where Balian arrives in Jerusalem really got dull. Also, the film is never sure exactly what point it is trying to make. It almost needed someone of De Mille's bravado to just take a side and say "These guys are the good guys, these guys are the heels, someone is going to win here." Instead we get basically a few rogue knights messing with the Muslims until they decide to attack. The main problem is that who is the average filmgoer more likely to identify with, the Templar Knights or the Muslims? Orlando Bloom also does a lot of really stupid shit in the movie I thought. First, he refuses the leper king's request that he have Guy and the other rogue knights whacked, thus paving the way for him to marry the princess, take charge of the army, and keep the city out of war with Saladin and the Muslims. This essentially causes Guy to take command of the throne later and start a holy war with Saladin, thus leading to the city being sieged. Dumbass. Second, near the end and after countless bloodshed Balian basically just gives up the city (without consulting anyone, mind you) to Saladin after fighting constantly...hell he could have just negotiated that shit to begin with and everyone could have left in defeat. Oh, performance wise I dunno if this was the big breakout debut Bloom needed. My mom thought he was a sissy and not nearly macho enough for such a role. Neeson was great in what little of the film he was in, Irons solid, but it was Edward Norton as the leper king (with a bizarre face mask!) that really steals this thing.

Well Van Helsing in theory was a fanboys wetdream: A chance to see VH go up against the whole array of Universal's monster roster of Drac, Frank, and the Wolfman. No shock that it opened big. Kingdom of Heaven looked good in the trailer I thought but I wondered how good a Crusades movie would do with Orlando Bloom in his starring debut.

I've always maintained that Rocker simply said what a lot of people from the Southeast would say visiting NY or LA. I'm from Louisville, KY which has its share of minorities and gays, but is hardly like NYC I would think. I went to Los Angeles a few years ago and it was quite a culture shock. Seemed like everyone was a foreigner who couldn't speak English, homeless people practically accosted me begging for change in Santa Monica...it's kind of an alienating experience.

Has anyone ever thought of doing a trifecta bet on every possible combo? This trifecta today would have paid over a million if anyone had it. Just go down the list and bet money on every horse. Living in Louisville, I'm just glad it's over. This time of year we have all sorts of nuts visiting this town.

These games tonight illustrate exactly why the 1st round has no business being 7 games. There is NOTHING that we couldn't have had in 5 tonight. Houston finally laying down at Dallas isn't a totally huge shock given the whole Van Gundy mess with the league, but man what happened to Boston tonight? I figured the Pacers would win that series, but Boston flat out tanking a game 7 at home? And by the way, Detroit isn't sweeping shit. Hell, they couldn't sweep the fucking Bucks last year and couldn't sweep the Sixers this year. I can't see them sweeping a team that wants to kill them in brutal ways. NBA Eastern Conference: If it can't be good, it may as well be violent.

Weekend Boxoffice Report, April 29-May 1
cabbageboy replied to Youth N Asia's topic in Television & Film
Let's review: I SUPPOSE the original House of Wax had Vincent Price, but that wasn't the original version of the same story. That was Mystery of the Wax Museum. My point is that the original film is ignored for reasons I can't understand, and it's not the whole "It's in black and white" thing since it was in early two color Technicolor (in 1933). Hell, this remake that just came out doesn't even have a mad sculptor in it...how the fuck can you do a House of Wax movie without a mad sculptor? A remake with someone like Anthony Hopkins would have been cool, but lord knows they have to make it a typical cheese slasher to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Fuck them. If they want to remake something why not do a remake of The Most Dangerous Game? The plot has been done dozens of times but there's only really been one direct remake I think. Or as long as we're remaking 30s classics, let's do another Atwill/Wray movie: Doctor X. That movie is better than Mystery of the Wax Museum or House of Wax. Rant over. -
Black and Corduroy weren't singles huh? I dunno, I seem to hear Black on the radio a lot even now, and Corduroy and Better Man are still played. I still think the Vitalogy album was so utterly shitty aside from a couple of decent songs that it flat out killed their popularity, and their album sales post Vitalogy tend to back this up. I still remember getting Vitalogy and listening to Eddie Vedder dick around on accordian, rambling about bugs, spelling privacy for a whole track...I thought it was a joke.

Oh my, where to begin? At this point I hope Fred Durst just keeps on releasing stuff just to either piss people off (and amuse me). The whole nu metal/rap metal thing was always garbage, but I do admit that I kinda like a few Limp Bizkit songs. Rearranged isn't bad, My Way or the Highway was a good WM theme, I even sorta enjoyed that cover of Behind Blue Eyes aside from the goofy spelling bridge part. But man when Durst sucks he REALLY sucks: Break Stuff, Rollin, My Generation (what is WITH Durst riffing on the Who?).

The Bears in the Super Bowl? Ha! Frankly I'm also sick and tired of the Pats either, there is nothing all that compelling about them to make me wanna see them constantly in the Super Bowl. They're like the HHH of football. And yes the Pacers desperately must win this game tonight. The Celtics are boring, have no heat, and would merely provide a jobber squash for the Pistons. The Pacers might actually DO something in the next round.
-
I'm just glad this Bulls/Wizards series is over. Neither team is any good really, just JTTS types destined to lose in 5 to the Heat. In fact the East has the potential to be god awful in the semis, what with the Heat/Wizards and maybe Pistons/Celtics. I know David Stern will cringe if the Pacers advance but it's the only thing that will have any intrigue in this round. The west however is set with two solid series. Spurs/Sonics could well be a 6 game type series, and the Suns vs. either Mavs/Rockets should be the highlight of the next round.

Weekend Boxoffice Report, April 29-May 1
cabbageboy replied to Youth N Asia's topic in Television & Film
You know what I am sick of hearing? That the Vincent Price House of Wax is the original House of Wax. Bullshit. The original version was Mystery of the Wax Museum, with Lionel Atwill and Fay Wray. I am flat out sick of this movie being so shamefully ignored (hell it's an extra on the House of Wax DVD and it's a better movie). The sad thing is that this new House of Wax is probably a bad remake of a movie that was an inferior remake itself, merely designed to show off the new 3D of the day. Watch it without the 3D and it's not really any good. -
Oh, next week Eddie has to come out and give the Interview From Hell, just ranting all over his descent from the main event to dicking around with Rey in nothing tag matches over meaningless belts. Just a bitter, venomous tirade. He should vow to beat the shit out of Rey should he mess with him again, and also that he is sick of being a bum and is going to win back the WWE title since he never should have lost it. Eddie doing a heel turn is great since it totally fits his deceitful character. Anyone who has watched long term had a smile last night as he beat holy hell out of Rey.
-
Yeah that was one of SMDN's most effective matches and angles in quite some time. Is Eddie perhaps going into full blown "I don't give a shit about anyone" mode? The crowd reaction was actually exactly what it should have been. The whole "Eddie sucks" chant thing isn't exactly appropo for that moment. The crowd was just in utter shock, note how many people were really disturbed by it.

But hey, if Yao starts getting away with those illegal screens there is only one thing left for Avery Johnson to do.... Send in the GOON, baby! Mavs in 6 tonight, make it happen.
-
I know, I know...I don't get it either, this jobbing someone who is going to another show. I mean hell, it's not like it's a REAL new start. You just go from one WWE brand to another. See, when a guy is jobbed and goes from WWF to WCW no one thinks anything of it (even a mark realizes a guy was just cashing the paycheck his last month or so there before coming to a new company). But jobbing a guy out and sending him to SMDN? It presents a problem in that it makes him look weak now, and then makes SMDN look weak when he starts winning there.

News on HeartThrobs, Gangrel, Stevie, and more
cabbageboy replied to JoeDirt's topic in The WWE Folder
I always kinda liked Gangrel and it'll be good to see him back. When Viscera kept making Raw appearances I ranted "Why the hell did they sign him again and yet haven't brought Gangrel back full time?" If they do it I hope they play off the inherent silliness of his gimmick, make him Christian's flunky (or Edge's, either way). One advantage Gangrel will have is that unlike Val Venis for instance he hasn't been around nonstop and thus his gimmick will be fresher (although originally from the same time period).
