Recently I picked up a movie at Suncoast that I'd heard about for years: Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (it was in the cheap section for about 6.00). I'd avoided this movie for years since it usually gets a BOMB and is considered one of the worst movies ever. But you know what? It's shockingly good. I don't even really mean in an Ed Wood "so horrible it's good" kind of way. These guys Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo are funny as hell (they are basically Martin and Lewis impersonators). Petrillo in particular does an AWESOME Jerry Lewis. My mom came in and saw the movie and was like "Is that Jerry Lewis?" Anyone else pick this cheap DVD up?

One fun thing I recall about WM 14 though were these goofs in the crowd with a big sign saying "The Icon: Rob Van Dam." I remember thinking it was odd since RVD hadn't quite yet won the TV title and gone on to big things in ECW at that point.

Industrial is kind of an abrasive style that is difficult to do, and hard to define really. Imagine someone doing a metal version of techno, with simulated hard guitars, machine sounds, just really abrasive and fucked up sounding stuff. I'd get Pretty Hate Machine for some vital tracks like Head Like a Hole, but man that CD doesn't really stand the test of time as well as Downward Spiral does. It has a slightly dated late 80s synth style. Downward Spiral made my head spin when I first heard it, but be warned, it's REALLY abrasive and full of headache inducing songs if you aren't into this sort of thing.

With the Oasis thing, I was speaking of 1996 or so....I too haven't heard much from them post 97. I dunno about ATL. but here in Louisville Tool and A Perfect Circle have always been played a lot on rock stations. When I was a freshman in HS Tool was kind of a scary band, what with the weird videos, creepy pics inside the CD, and dark songs. I mean who wasn't just a bit weirded out by Prison Sex back in the day?

The Sandlot is a nice little film but having a direct to video sequel to it isn't anything to be up in arms about. Just ignore it.

To be honest some of that stuff seems like the kind of hearsay that Scherer and CO. would report. Not like it didn't seem plausible. If it said "They'll trade Mark Jindrak to Raw and have him win the title" then I'd be suspicious (I read something similar to this last year).

I dunno if Iverson is on that high of a level, is he? Or if he is it's kinda like hearing about Pete Maravich with LSU. "Yeah, that Pistol Pete was awesome, he went for 50 against UK that night, but UK still won by 10." Iverson did get to 1 finals but the Sixers were merely sacrificial lambs vs. the Lakers.

You know it's funny but I really could care less if I ever see the Dudleys again. They might get a pop for a couple weeks but they'll go back to being stale as shit within 2 months. Look at it this way in regards to Christian jobbing on Raw. When a guy would leave the WWF for WCW (or vice versa) they'd job him to some people on his way out. In their minds Raw and SMDN are separate so it shouldn't matter if Christian jobs here if he gets a fresh start on SMDN in a few weeks. After all, why job Kane out to him when Kane will still be on Raw and Christian won't be? And yes, plenty of Eddie, Chavo, and Rey on my TV is always good.

You have to wonder what Romero will do to kick it up a notch, differentiate between his style and the newer zombie stuff. Will he stay with the slow, lumbering zombies? Or by this time have they evolved a bit?

Christian's move might be predictable but it's GOT to happen at this point, otherwise they've been dicking around having Christian trash John Cena with no real payoff. You know, oddly enough the Angle/Masters stuff might have promise. They could have Angle break out of the full nelson and take the $$, then the next week Masters could take the Angle challenge and somehow cheat his way to winning the medals. It's a fun way to pay off a couple of running angles.

Yeah I know every Oasis song is #1 or whatever in the UK, but in the US Don't Look Back in Anger didn't get much beyond token airplay. Maybe a bit of MTV play too (possibly cracked the top 20 countdown but not a smash). In the US both Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova got infinitely more play. Special Delivery actually was a brief single off Conspiracy of One. I know I heard it a few times on the radio when I visited L.A. Either way Want You Bad was a better single type song, and I think Come Out Swinging was killer too. Offspring have always been bad at releasing the proper singles and maximizing the album's potential success. I wonder if it's intentional? A Perfect Circle get all sorts of airplay on rock radio, but Maynard has always been an acquired taste to the general public.

I kinda think that Gordon got the 6th man award and thus Okafor will get rookie of the year. Sure, Gordon maybe took the Bulls from a borderline playoff team to a 4 seed, but without Okafor the Bobcats wouldn't have hit double digits in wins. They'd have been one of the worst teams ever.

When I think propaganda films I think of stuff like Gung Ho with Randolph Scott. It depends on what you want, as in documentary stuff or movies. Pretty much any US film during WW2 has an edge of propaganda in some way. Triumph of the Will is a strange experience. I saw it in college and was expecting all this evil Nazi shit, and I got a bunch of would be boy scouts and political speeches not all that different from today. No overt evil Nazi hate speech, no atrocity stuff....come to think of it, that's probably why it's disturbing.

This show sounds really cool this week. On one hand it's good to see Carlito actually WRESTLE but yet I'll kinda miss the Cabana this week. Maybe he should do both? I'm amused by the love for Velocity on here. That's just a show I could care less about. SMDN is the B show anyway and Velocity's the B show of SMDN. At least Heat has a consistent timeslot...I can't ever remember when Velocity is even on. This Eddie/Rey stuff is really bizarre, almost sounds like some crazy Dreamer/Raven angle on ECW with Raven teaming with Tommy one week, then kicking his ass, then pseudo teaming again....

I don't think anyone understands what I mean. When I say Dooku/Yoda/Anakin/Obi Wan is the best fight of the series, I mean it as a stand alone fight. I never exactly thought of the Empire and Jedi Luke/Vader battles in those terms. That always seem like the actual story of the movie, rather than a duel. As in Luke and Vader fight a while, Emperor talks shit, they fight more, come on and turn to the dark side, etc. Am I the only one who thinks Return of the Jedi is underrated? The Ewoks get hated on and thus people don't get what a gloriously satisfying end to the series it is. -

I was about to say, James Evans? I recall William Sadler being the lame heel Colonel in it and Franco Nero was the dictator dude....I also think Robert Patrick and John Leguizamo had bits as heels. It's not that Die Hard 2 is a bad movie, it's just that it is maybe *** at best while the original and third are, I dunno, ***1/2. The 3rd has Samuel in it, thus by divine right is better than part 2. And the 1st has the best heel in the series, though I also kinda like Simon too. -
It's odd that Christian has been a glorified jobber thus far on Raw this year and yet once they gave him the slightest notion of a push he started getting fans. I think he is certainly going to SMDN at this point...what else can they do with him? And if that's the case I can see the logic in not having him win vs. Kane last night. Why job out a guy who will be there to a guy that is leaving?

Best city in the world right now for music?
cabbageboy replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Music
The reason Seattle isn't thought of as #1 anymore is that even though the scene may be solid still, it's just that there's no way to replicate the insane success of the early 90s. As in it seems down but for most places it'd be good. -
I always thought the Offspring really dropped the ball when it came to singles. Admittedly stuff like Bad Habit and Smash had too much cussing to get a lot of airplay, but why not release Genocide off of Smash instead of the lesser Gotta Get Away? And when Ixnay on the Hombre came out they had All I Want--a song that is hardly even 2 mins.--as the 1st single. It basically killed the album's momentum out of the gate, though they did release some good singles off it later. And also Spare Me the Details should have been a single off of Splinter instead of Can't Get My Head Around You. One song that WAS a single but didn't quite get as huge as it should have was Oasis' Don't Look Back in Anger. I always loved that song, but it didn't become that mega hit that I thought it might. Is it because Noel Gallagher sang on it instead of Liam?

I like how Ebert gave Die Hard **, then Die Hard 2 ***1/2, and DHWAV ***. I'd think virtually anyone with a brain knows Die Hard 2 is by far the weakest of the 3, what with the Skip Bayless looking dude as the heel and all. -
I too am baffled as to why Kane beat Christian tonight. It just made no sense at all. The guy is getting over, Kane is his usual stale self, and lo and behold...Christian jobs. Fairly easy. Hell the same thing happened with Shelton later against Michaels. Just more of jobbing out younger talent to old bums and has beens.

The RAW Thread for 05-02-05: Show Comments

Am I the only one who really KNOWS the WWE mentality? I can't help but think Kane will take this thing, mainly because they always give him his lame one main event push per year and this is about the time for it. Also, they might think having Batista beat a big dude makes him look good somehow. Raw was a good show tonight. Man, Shelton is just the man right now. What I wouldn't give for him vs. a healthy Van Dam. -
Maybe Mark Cuban will sympathize with Van Gundy and pay the fine for him? Haha. Why exactly is Ben Wallace a bigger name than Tayshaun? The guy can play D and rebound, but I don't think he even avgs. 15 a game. Prince is a game changing defender and also can erupt on offense.

Anakin/Mace is a fight I figured we'd see in this next movie. I mean hell Mace obviously has to be whacked somewhere in the film I would assume, and he's too hardcore to go down to some guards or whatever. For whatever reason I never even thought of the two Luke/Vader duels as...well, duels. I thought of that more as plot being developed while two guys were fighting. On that basis it's the best stuff in the series, but I think the Dooku/Yoda/Obi Wan/Anakin fight is the best pure fight. It also made everyone in the theater I was in mark out like bitches. I mean did anyone exactly mark out for the first Luke/Vader fight? I was more stunned by that one than anything. It's like comparing the story driven Macho/Warrior WM 7 match to a Rey/Eddie thriller. -
It's becoming an odd trend with Raw guys trashing SMDN guys and getting no response. Remember when HHH used to badmouth Angle, even though they were on different shows? Or JBL recently? Now this whole thing with Christian trashing Cena. It'd be fun if SMDN's guys fired back with their own comments but for whatever reason have not. Either: 1. They are trying to look like the better men by not commenting. 2. They are being booked to look like pussies who take all sorts of shit from the mighty Raw. 3. There is complete miscommunication between the two booking staffs. Anyone wanna figure out which it is?
