    This "week" in the NBA

Is anyone else just bored with the Spurs? Seriously these guys are like the Michigan St. of the NBA, just constantly THERE and I couldn't give two shits about them. All I'm saying is ABC better worry about a potential finals with Detroit and San Antonio. That would be ratings death given the bone and club way both teams would play. Anyone watch that Detroit/Miami game yesterday? 80-72. Yes I know Shaq was sick, but that's sad for professionals.

I was too busy noticing Del Toro's ownage to care about Brittany Murphy possibly sucking.

    Matt Hardy released

I was slightly shocked when I read this but then I figured someone was going to be fucked in this whole seedy affair, and Matt was simply the odd man out. Edge is in the midst of a big push on Raw and Lita is still useful in the womens division (when healthy), so the already injured Matt was screwed here. The only two acceptable reasons are 1. They felt having him on the roster was a risk. 2. Matt said fuck it and asked for his release. The weird aspect here is that I was talking to my friend Ian about the Hardys during WM and he said "I am glad to be right about the Hardys, I always figured Matt would turn out better." I joked "Yeah the guy is currently hurt and his girlfriend nailed someone on the side. The poor guy is probably THIS close to being on Heat and/or being released."

    Box Office Report

Well it did have a fairly big drop off in the 2nd week, over 50% really. Some of it is that directors like Tarantino and Rodriguez have their base of fans but after that interest isn't as high. Sin City will likely make about what Hellboy did, maybe as high as Kill Bill #1.

    When did the ratings change

I always found that use of motherfucker in Everyone Says I Love You completely idiotic. The rest of the movie had little to no cussing in it, yet this one off the cuff "motherfucker" during a rap concert got the film an R rating. Why Woody didn't just edit that 1 second out and get a PG or PG-13 I have no idea. The most shocking example of PG-13 I can think of was The Bride. After Jennifer Beals is created she is totally nude and you see it all, full frontal. In a PG-13 movie! I guess it wasn't R because the movie had no real cursing and not a good deal of violence either, just her naked.

    "Classic" albums you cannot enjoy

It's funny that in the initial post it said "Anyone mentioning Korn and that ilk will be trashed." Oddly in some circles Korn's 1st CD IS actually a classic, even though I think it's some of the worst garbage I've ever heard. I also 2nd the notion of Mellow Gold being better than Odelay. Odelay has some flat out mediocre stuff on it, particularly after Where It's At (Sissyneck the exception here). Mellow Gold has a really solid 9 out of 12 solid tracks, with the only crap being Sweet Sunshine, Steal My Body Home, and maybe Blackhole, though I like that one sometimes. Mellow Gold is also the funniest CD I've ever heard, without being a comedy album or parody.

    This new Weezer song.

I'm a little amused that someone trashed Hash Pipe yet no one has trashed one of the silliest songs ever: The Sweater Song. When I first saw the video for that on 120 Minutes I thought it was one of the dumbest songs ever. I actually gave in and liked some of the Blue Album but it's hardly a great classic. Pinkerton is a good album but the totally different (and more adult) material on it alienated their fans. I might need to listen to the Green Album again but 4 years ago I recall liking it fairly well. Maladroit was certainly bleh however. The new song? It's....riveting! Gripping! I might even go so far as to say it's....mediocre!

    More lawsuit information

I must argue the "RVD has been uninspired from the get go" point. In 2001-2002 RVD was perhaps the most consistent and exciting wrestler on the roster (and one of the most over). Once he jobbed a couple times to HHH though and was depushed his career stalled and he stopped giving a crap. As far as Lesnar goes, I wouldn't sign him again. What's the point? If you proceed to push him hard the wrestlers and some fans get pissed about it, but if you bring him in and job him out there really isn't any point.

After you get "The Michael Vick Experience"

These Ron Mexico jokes cannot get old. It's just so...great, haha. Hell, even JA Adande riffed on the Ron Mexico thing on ATH today. For some reason I don't think this will get the huge media attention that stuff like the Kobe trial got. There's something really embarrassing about this story, know what I mean? Hearing about Vick having herpes isn't exactly something I wanna listen to on the radio or on ESPN.

    Somewhat SmackDown! Spoilers

You know after Cena and JBL stunk up the joint at WM you might think they would say "Gee, maybe these guys wrestling again on a PPV isn't a very good idea." Having a tourney only to end up with the SAME GUY who just held the title maining the PPV is absolutely idiotic. I mean the whole point of a tourney is to get a fresh opponent.

    Yankee dynasty officially over

That was some fascinating info on creoles. I too have often wondered about the term since sometimes it means mixed or black, yet I've also seen it used in other ways (such as the Elvis movie King Creole, or John James Audubon having a Creole wife) that implied someone that was French from Louisiana. Anyway, I think since A-Rod is from somewhere like Miami he's probably Cuban. And I can't see why it's a shock that the Mariners and Rangers got better without him....they used the money that he would have gotten to get players in other areas.

How to ruin Die Hard 4....

Yeah Affleck is kinda old to be Bruce Willis' son in a movie. Unless Bruce knocked some chick up when he was like 14. Anyone know what kind of heels will be in this new one? I think the Germans have been kinda played at this point, though Germans are always the best Evil Foreign Heels. I mean compare a German heel to say whatever Eurotrash heels are in movies now....no comparison.

Problem is, U of L doesn't really have a total thug goon to put in against Illinois. I guess there was Otis George but he was playing like crap. Still, Otis DID waste that dude from Washington with one of the best LEGAL screens you'll ever see.

How to ruin Die Hard 4....

It might sound goofy but McClane's family life was something I found underdeveloped in the Die Hard series, so I can certainly understand why they would do this. Anyone notice a pattern in Bruce Willis' career? Does Die Hard then is in crap for a few years, then does a hard hitting cool film like Pulp Fiction/Sin City for street cred, then goes back to Die Hard. Now he just needs to do a big dumb "save the world" actioner and a supernatural thriller.

    Somewhat SmackDown! Spoilers

Since they are already hyping Cena/JBL as a rematch for JD this whole tourney thing is a horrible idea. It's obvious that they are going to have to put Bradshaw yet AGAIN over the entire roster just so he can do a meaningless job to Cena in another bad match. Hopefully once JBL jobs out again they'll finally give up on this crap. What is the overall theme on SMDN right now? There's some good individual stuff like Eddie/Rey but I don't sense an overall theme to the show. Sure people are bored with HHH but at least Raw has a theme, even if it's a bad one (HHH doing whatever he can to stay on top). Take a look on Raw and you'll find at least 3 major things: --Batista crushing everyone to prove he's a legit champ. --HHH yet again going after the guy who beat him for the title to prove it was a fluke. --Edge observing all this and waiting to cash in his title shot. What is SMDN doing right now? Rey/Eddie is amusing but ultimately has zero point because Rey can only go so far (too small to get a truly huge singles push), so unless Eddie goes heel due to this and thus goes after the title again I fail to see what this accomplishes. Angle is now back on the treadmill again, squashing jobbers. Booker has no direction as usual. Hopefully this tourney will set up some new feuds and angles for the summer, but I have a sick feeling that it will be a vehicle to put Bradshaw over.

Isn't Watchmen also a Frank Miller title? I think maybe he's just a sick bastard, hence the various amounts of dogs eating people, cannibals, etc.

When should Edge cash in his title shot?

I think what Edge is going to do is hold off for a while. He knows he can job out to everyone under the sun but still get his title shot (which is why Benoit's win, while courageous, meant zero). In fact Edge might be going easy on his current opponents in favor of studying up on Batista for the exact time when he's ready. Thing is, when Edge finally cashes his chance in he really does need to WIN the match, or else it is essentially pointless.

Well, Roy could GET to the FF in the past, but his guys would choke at some point or just get beat by a better team. By the way I'm glad someone mentions the Illinois illegal screens. I noticed throughout the U of L game that the Illini were bumping the hell out of our guys but nothing was ever called. Garcia in particular had trouble with this. Not getting illegal screen calls? SEND IN THE GOON, BABY~!
  19. Oh the whole movie buries the WCW roster so bad, haha. I mean hell an overweight, not terribly muscular Oliver Platt beats half the roster's ass in the film, not to mention the Stu wannabe. The funny thing to me is that the movie really does play like a Russo storyline from WCW during that time period. It's like at some points they want to tell you "Wrestling is fake" such as the opening part where Pantaliano is shown booking the finish to a match and such. But then it wants you to believe what you are seeing is real, like when Jimmy the King gets his revenge on DDP in the triple cage match with EVERYONE doing very obviously scripted run ins.

I can't see anyone actually ROOTING for Kevin in the film. Yeah I know Marv was also a sick bastard in his own right but at least the guy was attempting to follow some sort of code of honor, even if he was wasting everyone in sight.

I agree on the heels, this movie had some of the most memorable heels in recent memory, what with Kevin (Elijah Wood) and the Cardinal in the Marv story and of course YB and the Senator in the Hartigan story. Just wondering but did anyone talk to someone who didn't like the film because it was mainly B and W?

    The Official Sin City Thread

Constantine? It was ok, but Reeves was wrong for the part really...in the hands of a better (or cooler) actor that role could have been a bad ass dream. I liked it reasonably well. Sin City is the closest thing to comic book as film art that I have seen however. I figured it would cause a huge amount of controversy though, especially with the Pope dying and all. Just bad timing really. I think that the film isn't crapping on organized religion as much as it is badmouthing priests/cardinals/etc. who are counterfeits and lose the faith. Perhaps a brief scene with Marv on death row talking to a legit priest would have chilled people on this, since all we saw in the film was the Cardinal and the other corrupt priest who was involved. I saw it again today, I think it might have been BETTER on a 2nd viewing. I don't get the talk of the 2nd storyline being weak, hell Del Toro was just the man there. Think Dr. Gonzo crossed with Dennis Hopper from Blue Velvet, haha.

    So how was wrestlemania

I'm glad someone else recognizes the coolness of Rockers vs. Barby/Haku. That to me is the perfect sort of opener. Stuff like Bret/Owen isn't ideal opener material since it sets the bar WAY too high out of the gate (never have your best match as an opener). That WM 7 tag match was a real fun, rollicking little match with the right guys winning and getting the crowd stoked for the night. Cam Ams vs. Orton/Muraco from WM 3 is a similar fun opener. As far as this show goes, I loved the ladder match a lot. Michaels/Angle had me going by the end and the finish was kinda ballsy really. Orton/UT was fairly fun too, with Bob running in with the CAST making it a minor classic, haha. Eddie/Rey was a little odd and disappointing (Rey's mask troubles, lack of Eddie heel turn or cheating) but I think they can do better on a SMDN. The stuff that was crap was indeed crap, like the women's match and the sumo stuff. Why not have Big Show go after Orlando Jordan's US title? The main events were both fairly bleh stuff, though the Raw match was certainly better. I think most fans were just glad to see this Bradshaw bullshit FINALLY come to an end, but even I was a bit baffled as to him just getting pinned with little fanfare. I figured if Cena was winning he'd have to survive run ins galore from Jordan and the Bashams, and it would have played better if Teddy Long had banned everyone from ringside. As in JBL was a bum against anyone 1 on 1 with no help, that kind of thing. The Batista/HHH match for the first 10 mins or so was the sort of crap HHH always does, namely dominate with his shitty offense that is like watching paint dry. This match should have been the exact opposite, Batista should have maimed his ass from start to finish with maybe a little bit of HHH offense to keep him respectable. I guess once HHH bladed he got his ass kicked quite a bit though. Anyway I knew these main events wouldn't be particularly good. The show overall was really good stuff however. Any show where Michaels and HHH BOTH job by definition is a good show.

Pretty much every part of me is saying Illinois should win this tomorrow. They are much tougher than UNC mentally. Last night was like pounding my head against a wall, I swear. U of L would go down, miss a shot, then they would simply hit a 3. This happened seemingly 5 times when we were quite close. They had an answer EVERY time. UNC might have better talent but I dunno. The only thing that keeps me from saying Illinois 100% is the whole "Teams with 1 loss never win it all" thing. As far as Garcia goes, believe me everyone in Louisville knows about his family situation and what not. It's a tough decision really because he BADLY needs his senior year to get better, the guy is simply not ready for the NBA. Just get in his face defensively and he'll go in the tank, bump him off screens, etc. In the paper this morning it said that he was reconsidering going pro and was going to test the waters (not hire an agent) and if he was below top 20 then he'd come back but if he was in the top 20 he'd go pro. If he comes back I think U of L has to be the favorite to win it all next year. If not, well, just another setback on the way to world domination, haha.

Eh, I'd say the Dwight storyline ended pretty well for him and Gail. It was really the only one that ended in any kind of happy way. That was Carla Gugino as the parole officer, and yes, she was smoking. She's the MOM from Spy Kids movies by the way. This was a really wild movie, it was like a film noir done totally over the top on roids. As I said the only real problem I had was that it was kinda repetitive (a bunch of characters had their nuts cut off, there were a couple of beheadings, even the head into the toilet thing done twice). I think this was better than Kill Bill, especially given the way Kill Bill ended in Vol. 2. As far as comparing it to Pulp Fiction though...let's give it about 10 years of perspective.
