Shannon Tweed is too old, heh...though she does have a striking resemblance to Sable I think.

Actually yes I did think Cena would job to Jordan because he's really the only rational guy that makes sense storywise at this point in that he's JBL's lackey and now JBL can get off the crap like "You couldn't beat my slave, how you gonna beat me?" I'd say this means Cena is winning the title.

Eh those stats are dubious because it depends on who plays who really. By the way anyone see IU absolutely get fucked tonight at Wisconsin? Those refs had to be bought and paid for. I mean Jesus, IU simply got nothing that whole game foul wise, while any time Mike Wilkinson touched the ball it seemed like he got FTs.

Anyone care to ponder why the RPI has the Pac 10 listed as the 2nd best conf.? I mean aside from Wash and Zona the conf. doesn't really have anybody. UCLA is perhaps going to get in due to simply being UCLA...Stanford is really down this year, etc. Oh by the way, ouf of CUSA I think Charlotte could perhaps make some noise in the tourney given the right bracket. They come to Freedom Hall on Thursday and the CUSA title is on the line. U of L absolutely HAS to win that game, we cannot lose that game. Not with the conf. title on the line on Senior Night...god that would be humiliating.

Well, the Hogan/NWO era was a different sort of thing...it was an era that didn't really lend itself to clear cut heel/face definitions since the NWO was widely cheered and liked, even though they were heels. Hogan was also quite absent during a lot of this, hell I bet in 1997 he defended about 4 times the whole year heh. Incidentally anyone wanna help me out on that? What exactly HAPPENED in WCW in 1997? The whole year seemed like nothing but NWO beatdowns on everyone, Sting hanging around the rafters, and random cruiser matches. I know WCW was leading the ratings at that point but the WWF was kicking it into high gear at that point and I tend to recall much more about WWF of the time period (Bret/Austin and such) than I do WCW.

I've never been one to hark on the so called realism in film but there are basic things that need to be addressed when you write something. That's what really pissed me off about Million Dollar Baby and I for one see where Bayless was coming from (Skip Bayless is on ESPN2's Cold Pizza with Woody Paige, also 1st and 10..it's the same show really). For instance: The champion and her blatant cheap shot tactics were ludicrous to me. What truly pissed me off is that after the fight took place there was NEVER any mention of her being stripped of the title, being banned for life, doing jail time, etc. It was just stuff like "Oh well Maggie, you jobbed so just lie in your bed paralyzed and live with it." I say fuck that for a few reasons. 1. She didn't lose the fight. I assumed that if anything she won the fight by DQ, and I'd think the ref is within his rights to award her the title. 2. Though never stated as such we are left to figure that the Bitch basically retained her title and had no consequences for crippling an opponent with a blatant cheap shot. Is there anyone else who had as big of a problem with this as me? Add to it that all this led to was a 30 min. subplot about euthanasia and I was quite pissed and ready to exit the theater. Perhaps there will be a deleted scene on the DVD showing what became of The Bitch in the aftermath of the fight, but then we're still stuck with 30 mins of borderline unwatchable crap with Hilary paralyzed in a nursing home.

I've never understood the long term heel champion. It's a recipe for disaster since it by definition sends fans home unhappy. A heel champ can work for a while (think Flair at Rumble 92 through WM 8) but the fact is long term heel champs hardly ever work. People will say Flair in the 1980s NWA, but the fact is the company was a distant #2 to the WWF back then and basically went bankrupt before Turner bought it. Know why? People got sick of heels constantly winning. It's become some bizarro world in WWE, a place where the heel is booked long term and the face is booked as a transition champ, when in fact it should be the exact OPPOSITE! A dominant face champ can draw all sorts of money. The reason HTM's IC reign drew was because he was still in the end a 2nd tier guy. I can assure you if they had tried putting the WORLD title on HTM people would have been mega pissed, but with the IC? Eh, not so much. Also, HTM wasn't going over most of the upper midcard guys either...he won the title on a fluke and mostly got himself counted out and DQed. So essentially he got heel heat and didn't destroy anyone else's in the process. With Bradshaw he's been actually beating people, albeit in screwy fashion. HHH is a different sort, he plays a cowardly heel sparingly so when he does it's more effective and seems like he is actually scared. It was a good point to mention Bradshaw's shitkicker past rep. He wouldn't need this help to beat the Big Show...hell I saw a match in person where Bradshaw beat Show clean (this was APA era).

Ether we actually agree here, just read what I said again...I said Pitt wasn't a good matchup at all for BC, meaning that Pitt would trash em. While Pitt has lost 7 games this year most of these losses have at least been on their terms. As in games they were winning 65-62 they lost by that same score. Dama, I think the Big 12 is actually better than the ACC. The ACC is a total 3 team league right now with UNC, Duke, and Wake. Yeah there are some others that are dangerous on a given night (Maryland, Ga Tech, Va Tech) but for the most part everyone else is underachieving. Well aside from Va Tech who is overachieving, heh. The Big East is a very tough conf. from top to bottom but I don't think the league really has a truly legit title contender. BC is being exposed by the minute, I can't see UConn repeating, and Cuse hasn't proved they can beat anyone that is ranked. The Big 12 has some serious title contenders (OK St., maybe Kansas on a good night) and there are also teams like OU that I could see making a run. TX Tech is up and down, but I can see them maybe going Sweet 16 with the right bracket. Hell even jobbers like Iowa St. and Nebraska can pull the occasional upset.

I don't really object to Swank dying here exactly. Hell that's a staple of boxing movies going back to Kirk Douglas in Champion. What I would have liked instead of 30 mins of dreary crap in a nursing home would be for Maggie to go down in a blaze of glory, winning the title but then ultimately dying afterwards in the lockerroom from the cheap shots. That whole "ref didn't see it" thing is such bullshit. This isn't wrestling for fuck's sake....she did this BLATANTLY, how the fuck could the ref not see it? I know punches are thrown in boxing at times after the bell but those are heat of the moment things immediately after the bell that are quickly stopped. This was a very deliberate act a good 10 seconds AFTER the fighters were going to the corner. The producer in reality is trying to justify something that isn't justifiable...it's just bullshit. The basic script here was so badly thought out here that it can't be defended. In reality there is no way a ref could miss such a blatant cheap shot (hell she crashed into the stool for fuck's sake...did the ref not see that either?). Christ even if he DID somehow miss it, the crowd's uproar and everyone screaming about it would have cleared it up soon enough. I'm not objecting to Maggie dying...I just thought it was all wrong the way it went down and the long, drawn out tedium in which it occurred. And I really, really had a problem with the champion getting no comeuppance here, no mention of a punishment, no stripping of the title, etc. Maggie didn't lose the fight, in reality she won on a DQ and would have possibly been awarded the title (albeit it would just be held up afterwards since she couldn't defend). A film with something this fundamentally fucked up in its storyline should not have won best picture. Hell, Aviator, Finding Neverland, and Sideways were all better films than this. -
Didn't OU have some guys get hurt last year though? Bookout perhaps? Anyway Texas is struggling right now so OU needed to just take care of business tonight and they did. Dama I am quite impressed with the Big 12 as a conf. Teams in it can shoot well on a good night (OSU/KU yesterday), teams can get after it defensively, teams are tough....it's a good league, underrated perhaps. For whatever reason I kinda thought Pitt wasn't a good matchup for BC. In seeing BC this year they seem kinda like a 2nd rate Pitt that has just been luckier in some close games than Pitt. As in they play these ugly 60-58 type games, get after people defensively, but don't really score much. And let's face it, Pitt is the master of their vicious style, as they proved tonight. I still don't think you can win it all with such a bone and club style, but Pitt can beat anyone on a good night. In fact when you look at everyone in the BE at their best, I still think Pitt is the most dangerous.

Wake would not lose 1st round to anyone. I trust in teams that squash people badly, that ability alone can get someone to the Sweet 16 before the real competition begins. Note that last year UK and Stanford were both teams that had trouble putting people away, or squashing much of anyone. And they both tanked in the 2nd round. BC is very similar really, they kinda huff and puff their way past a lot of bleh teams. They'll probably stagger past someone 1st round, but after that all bets are off.

Ok I just saw Million Dollar Baby today and the first 90m or so was real good....and then the last half hour of it absolutely fucking sucked. This film much like Kill Bill 2 had a final 30m that just sucked the life clear out of it. Would anyone care to address this in particular that pissed me off to no end: What the fuck happened to the bitch that crippled Hilary here? I mean, they just act like she retained her title and Hilary jobbed even though she did a BLATANT cheap shot in between rounds. They never even refer to her again in the film actually. It seems to me that if a boxer did a blatant cheap shot in between rounds and crippled his/her opponent that would be grounds to strip said boxer of the title, be banned for life, and likely even arrested. Yet for the remainder of the film Hilary's mom and even Eastwood go around saying "You lost, etc." to her....thing is she DID NOT lose! At the least she would have won by a DQ due to that bullshit cheap shot, and I have to wonder if the ref would be within his rights to award her the title. Yet in the film the bitch never gets a comeuppance, never is shown being drug away in chains, never shown on ESPN being stripped of the title, and so on. It really pissed me off and combine this with the last half hour being excruciating with Hilary dying in a rehab center, it made me simply detest the film by the time it was over, when at the 90m mark it was headed towards easy ***1/2 to **** territory. Comments? -
First impressions are often the correct ones. I remember seeing Lita at Heatwave 99 when she was Danny Doring's ultra skanky fiancee and I thought "This chick has GOT to be a complete whore." Bear in mind she cleaned up her act considerably when she got to the WWF, she looked like they literally grabbed her out of a strip club in ECW.

There is just something so wrong about the statement "Two time Oscar winner Hilary Swank" however. To win 2 Oscars you have to have SOME kind of drawing power....you can't just give 2 to some chick who can just play men. Christ this chick was in The Next Karate Kid for God's sake, and that film wasn't really THAT dissimilar from Million $ Baby if you think about it. Although I do believe Glenda Jackson won 2 as well. -
Well U of L managed to stagger to a win last night vs. Memphis in that epic rematch. Wonder if ESPN is glad they hyped it as their Sat. night game now after it was 53-44? Haha. We're not out of the woods yet though, gotta take out Charlotte in what is the REAL big game (this Memphis game was overhyped). If we lose to Charlotte on Senior Night with the conf. title on the line, we're a disgrace. If BC gets a 1 seed this year they might be a 1 who could perhaps lose to a 16, or more likely have a very dangerous win by less than 10. Keep in mind BC has struggled against teams like Yale.

Alro, maybe it's just me but I thought that was the best half UK has played all year. I mean man that was just awesome. Sparks has to be the most up and down player in basketball today. I'd love to see a Duke/UK matchup with Sparks and Redick both on their game, but likely one of the two would go 3 for 13, haha. This one should end all the "Bama is a FF team" nonsense. You can stick a fork in them, they're done. Hell they might not win the SEC West at this point, LSU is tied with them now I think.
-
Today is a big day for hoops in KY: UK plays Bama at 1:30 and can lock up the SEC title (not that that is really a big accomplishment, haha), though I imagine Bama is looking at this as a Super Bowl or something bigger than it really is. At 9:00 there's U of L vs. Memphis and I hope to God we don't job twice to those scum. Getting swept by Memphis would be a fiasco. There's also some good stuff today like Zona/Wash for the Pac 10 title, Pitt/UConn, and so on.

Could Van Dam be a viable WWE main eventer?
cabbageboy replied to Superfly Snuka's topic in The WWE Folder
RVD always has credibility to the fans mainly because no one cares about him jobbing to Renee Dupree or whatever...they remember either his ECW TV title run or his awesome first year or so in the WWF where he beat Austin, Angle, UT, Jericho, Eddie, and Benoit. RVD could beat anyone on the roster and nobody would find it at all goofy (as opposed to say Orton beating Benoit). When RVD comes back they basically HAVE to push him...I don't even think they are dumb enough to have him come back from a 6-12 month injury and then put him right back in a tag situation with Rey or whoever. I'm not saying he shouldn't be involved with Rey initially, because it's only logical for RVD to come back and turn heel and just DESTROY Rey (there's always the old "You didn't have my back and didn't give a shit when I got hurt" motive...and in this case it makes total sense). -
I can't believe no one has thought of this possibility: She is cheating on him with KANE~!

I liked this movie but it wasn't remotely as rollicking as Hellboy. Hellboy had some really bizarre humor thrown in that I enjoyed. And it had Ron Perlman. And the cool looking Nazi heel.

If you go back a few pages here you know that I loathe John Cheney anyway and think it was a joke he got put in the Hall of Fame. It's not like this is something NEW though, hell as mentioned above in 1994 he threatened to kill John Calipari at a press conf., haha. Given Calipari's revolting manipuation of refs though, he might have a point. Anyway, the biggest problem Cheney had here was being honest. Coach K brought in a goon, but didn't SAY as much. If Cheney hadn't really made it public nothing would have even come of this. As bad as it sounds, I have often ranted when someone is putting up 25 on U of L stuff like "Let's put in a goon on this guy!"

If the Colts can work some cap magic they should BEG Ty Law to come there. At least he won't be INTing Peyton anymore, unless maybe in practice, heh.

I didn't know about Sam's but I got totally screwed on this thing....ended up getting it at Best Buy for about 65.00. I looked on the site and it said it was about 55.00 too...so it actually jumped 10.00 when I got to the store! I was so pissed. Anyway I ended up making my dad copies of all 6 and he gave me 20.00 for my efforts, haha. Am I the only one who thinks Roaring 20s is the best of all these?
-
Hell BC rushed the court ranked #6 when they beat Syracuse who was ranked LOWER than them. That sort of stuff is idiotic.
-
Alro, half of UK's problem is that they seem disinterested half the time, and with the likes of Auburn and GA who can really blame them? But you gotta SQUASH the jobber, it's written in stone. He who is top 5 must squash the jobber. Hey at least UK put up 81 last night....don't worry so much about an 81-73 win...worry about those 60-50 type wins.
