I don't think UK is even a top 10 team. I've watched the games, yeah I know they are 19-3 but there are a few of those that they flat out had no business winning (U of L, Ole Miss, even Arkansas to some extent). I don't get why everyone is now saying "I wouldn't wanna be Miss St. on Sat." Why not? They're getting Winsome Frazier back, they have a shot in Rupp. I mean I can't see UK trashing them by 20 or anything. I want a UK/Pitt Sweet 16 matchup. Know why? Because UK is basically a mirror image of PITT at this point. Hell, Pitt's games at least have their amusements to them....UK depressed me at times. A lot of the crap Tubby gets isn't due to not winning per se, but it's just that his teams are so much less entertaining than Pitino's at UK. For anyone who watched UK then, watching them go out and stink up the joint in a 60-51 game is just sad. Say what you want, but aesthetics do matter. Whereas Pitt fans are just glad to win at all, UK fans expect more than these stagnant, dreary wins (or even losses). UK fans want actual performance virtuosity, actual shooting. Not shock clock violations, turnovers and barely putting 60 points on the board. I'm not saying U of L is God's gift to basketball this year, but at least we usually play an enjoyable, exciting style and get roughly 80 pts a game. This stuff matters to people.

It's not that people don't like Kansas, but it's just that they are choking bitches. Yeah I know they made some FFs under Roy Williams, but in for instance 2002 who in that bracket was a serious threat? They're kinda like Zona in that regard, when people expect things from them they choke, and when they are ignored they do well. I'm telling you, playing constant close games comes back to haunt you. UK last year is a prime example, I bet they won half their games with scores like 68-66. If you don't squash a JTTS type team in the tourney, it will come back to haunt you. As far as U of L goes, it's just a matter of time at this point before we're basically out of the Top 25. Yeah we'll make the tourney since we already have 21 wins, but anything higher than a 6 seed would amaze me. We're doing the usual Feb. fade that every U of L team has done since about 1988. That Memphis game was essentially the death knell, as we have to play Marquette, Memphis, and DePaul all on the road, and get a tough Charlotte here. Comparing Michigan St. not losing to jobbers to U of L is bizarre. The Big 10 doesn't really have the bizarro world rivalry games that CUSA has (mostly dating to the old Metro). To the outsider, U of L getting trounced by a shit Memphis team is shocking. To me, I know Memphis hates our guts so it's not real surprising. Bear in mind U of L players have had KNIVES thrown at them in road trips to Memphis. Stuff like this is why I'll be glad to get out of CUSA. It's a conf. where a bunch of teams hate us, but we don't really care about them either way. That's why we'll never win it.

That is the sad aspect of the DVD. I don't think anyone really believed deep down that it was going to be it for ECW. They put it on Rhino in hopes of building a big feud with RVD where I assume Rob would have finally won the title. If they do this ECW PPV are they going to follow the angles left open by the last PPV? I guess it depends on if RVD is back for it.
-
UConn is basically that 1 road win over Cuse away from being on the bubble. I can't see them going past the 2nd round this year, much like 2000 when they were defending. Iggy, time to give up the Ga Tech thing. There's no way a team that goes 19-11 or so two years in a row will make 2 straight FFs.

I think Jericho is past the point of no return in terms of ability to draw. The guy has been jobbed so hard and made out to be such a tool by HHH, Shawn, and Co. that there really is no way to make him viable again. Not on Raw anyway. He might have a mild hope of regaining his previous form on SMDN, but who would he feud with? But RVD? He can certainly draw if given the chance. Hell it's right there in front for them: The ECW DVD is selling, RVD is hurt and when he gets back will get a huge pop, etc. And yes, I still stand by my original comment that RVD would get more of a crowd than Cena. Cena is over due to getting pushed and his cheesy raps, but he is not legit over. If Cena started jobbing to people I can assure you his popularity would diminish very quickly. Van Dam is legit over.
-
The really idiotic thing about that HHH comment is that Rob Van Dam connects with fans INFINITELY more than he does! I mean hell, HHH fucked around getting jack shit in terms of heat or crowd response for a good 4 years in the WWF. RVD shows up and gets over in about a week. HHH has to beat the entire Raw roster and get 20 mins of rambling interview time a week to stay over with the crowd...Van Dam is jobbed out and I dare say is STILL the most popular guy on SMDN if you wanna look at it close. I mean, in a match with RVD and Eddie, who is the crowd gonna go for? I'd say RVD (though Eddie would probabaly morph naturally back into a heel in that one). Or RVD and Cena in a match? The crowd would go for RVD. Hell bear in mind that the crowds rooted for Van Dam against the ROCK in 2001, so to say he can't connect with a crowd is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Hunter outta eat everyone on this board's cock for that remark.

Weekend Boxoffice Report, Feb 11-13. 2005
cabbageboy replied to Youth N Asia's topic in Television & Film
I think the better question is why do these Carrey movies get sequels WITHOUT Carrey even being in them? I swear I heard about 10 years ago that Carrey was going to be in the Mask sequel, but obviously not. Enemy of the State I think finished #15 at the box office in 1998. Not too bad really. -
Dama, you sound like my attitude towards Cincy. In 2000 they were #1 in the country, and during the CUSA tourney my mom was in the hospital and my car broke down and I damn near had a wreck. I got home to find out that Kenyon Martin broke his leg, thus ending Cincy's title hopes. It made my day. I think Zona is such a perennial choker pick that it's almost bound NOT to happen. Zona can at least squash a jobber. When looking at highly ranked teams to go down, I always look at those teams that seem to struggle against shitty teams for no real reason. That's why I have Kansas and UK on my list of those bound to get tossed early.
-
Hey, U of L is possibly 2nd in that inconsistent category. Today we huffed and puffed our way past SOUTH FRIGGIN FLORIDA by 8 pts. We were just about as awful as against Memphis, but it's just that USF is truly horrible so no one will care. UK was wretched today as well, staggering past a truly pathetic Georgia team that plays mostly walk ons I bet, 60-51.
-
Here's a fun game. Let's play "Who will be the high seeded teams to lose early in the tourney?" Extra points go to those who name the 1 seeds that will lose the 2nd round, 2s that lose to 15s, etc. No real monetary rewards, just smartmarks bragging rights. Heh. I'll start it: I say Kansas is gone 2nd round. Possibly UK as well if they get a 1. Not insanely bold picks I know, but they make sense.
-
I have likely seen both of those. The LD one I certainly remember, where RVD was like "Jerry, these people know you didn't beat me, you know you didn't beat me..." Funny as shit. I always loved the stuff where he'd torment Sabu in promos, poking fun at his various injuries (the broken jaw, etc), saying the Shiek liked him better, etc. The amazing thing is that when Sabu FINALLY turned on him Sabu was the heel in the feud, haha! I mean RVD verbally trashed the guy for years and Sabu finally had enough and turned, yet Sabu was the guy in the wrong. That's wrestling for ya.

Where was the Heatwave promo on the DVD? I don't recall seeing it listed.

Usually these are the unrated versions, not really the R rated versions. The really annoying thing is only when a movie that blatantly needed to be rated R like A vs. P comes out and it's PG 13. When EVERY film in a series is rated R (hell both series) you can't just go PG 13 without pissing people off. The silly thing is that AVP would have made the same amount of money I think.
-
I dunno, dude. When Skip and Woody argue and tease you can tell they are just doing a schtick. I can't imagine Mariotti and Woody even wanting to be in the same room together.
-
1st and 10 is actually a concise version of what Bayless and Paige do on Cold Pizza. I've become a reasonably big fan of that show. Bayless still comes off like the biggest queen, heh. At least he and Woody seem to be buddies offscreen, unlike on ATH where Woody and Mariotti really seem to hate each other. And yes, Woody is more relaxed than his usual ranting on ATH.

When I said Ga Tech's tourney run was a fluke, it's not so much that I didn't think they were capable beforehand (lord knows they beat UConn and Duke in the reg. season)...it's just the run itself was flukish. They didn't do anything real impressive, just barely scraped by one game after the other (N. Iowa by 5, BC by 3, NV by 5, Kansas in OT, OSU by 2). Also, they came out of an upset riddled bracket, with both UK and Zaga going down 2nd round. People have fluke runs that they won't ever replicate, much like the Carolina Panthers. Hell Syracuse had a flukish run in 1996...just a token jobber in the title game for UK to take out. I mean can you serioulsy look me in the face and say that Ga Tech was the 2nd best team in the country last year? Or that Alabama was really one of the 8 best teams in the nation? Fluke runs happen all the time in the tourney, it's one of the drawbacks of a 1 and done format. Sure the NBA playoffs get boring as shit with all the 7 game series, but at least the best team wins. Realistically Ga Tech is looking at a 4/5 seed at best. They'd get someone about the same 2nd round, and then the 1 seed most likely in the Sweet 16. No way are they getting the same breaks as they did last year.
-
Oh jesus, here's this Ga Tech crap again. Look, right now these guys would be hard pressed to MAKE THE TOURNEY. Sure, Elder being back will help them probably get in at least, but their run last year was a blatant fluke (I don't think they beat anyone by more than 5 pts. the whole tourney). If anything they might be a pick for a 5/12 or 6/11 type upset. Carolina is basically invincible at home, but take them away and friggin IU got close to beating them. That's the game that has made me wonder about UNC, it really is. But hey, at least UK doesn't do stuff like U of L did last night. If they had lost to FL by 17 at Rupp, that's basically what we're talking here. Actually wait, FL is decent....how about if SC beat them by 17 at Rupp?
-
Hell, I'll go further. I don't think ANYONE in the ACC will make the FF. Duke is still lame this year and will be ripe for a Sweet 16 type loss. Wake plays no defense to speak of which will kill them at some point (maybe a regional final). UNC is still the best bet I guess, but I haven't seen them beat anyone good on the road. On ESPN they had the 1 seeds right now as Illinois, Kansas, Wake, and UK. Illini aside that is possibly the weakest bunch of 1s ever. Hell, 2 of them are bound to lose the 2nd round.

I have a feeling it'll be just a matter of time before Stone and Caray are back. I for one don't even care about watching the Cubs on WGN unless Stone and a Caray of some sort are announcing. Reciting Farnsworth's career stats is futile, they don't truly measure his level of suck. It seemed like every time I saw a Cubs game this year he was walking the bases loaded, giving up a 4 run lead, letting the other team get an extra run, etc. And he also hurt himself trying to kick an electric fan's ass.
-
Well Turner used to back when the channel started, didn't he? Perhaps he had the hard on for creaky early talkie stuff.
-
I'm shocked at the lack of U of L badmouthing from last night, so I'll do it myself. We fucking SUCK. I said a couple months ago that I'd start wearing a sack over my head if we lost EITHER game to Memphis this year...and lo and behold we get this shit kicked out of us by Memphis' worst team in years. Seriously, that was "plane crashing into the mountain" level bad. It looks like yet another Feb. tank job for U of L at this point and it just makes me sick. Not like I wasn't waiting for it either, I just figured if anything it'd happen last week vs. Cincy or UAB. I'll be so glad to not have to play these assholes like Memphis anymore. It's just one of those rivalries where they care more than we do...frankly we're just sick of Memphis and want them to go away. Now we get to job out to them again at their place in a couple weeks, and maybe again in the CUSA tourney. Fuck Calipari. I used to kinda like him at UMass but now I see him for the ref baiting scumbag that he really is. No wonder John Chaney threatened to kill him some years ago.
-
It was hilarious watching UK and FL last night, god Billy Boy just can't buy a win vs. the Cats, particularly at Rupp. Will the Wed. pattern continue tonight? A U of L win at 7, followed by a Duke job at 9?
-
I am frankly shocked anyone WANTED Farnsworth. I gotta go with Czech on this one, that guy is just awful. Revolting. Pathetic. I can't think of enough adjectives. I saw him at least two times completely fuck up and blow 4 run type leads vs. the Cardinals, including the game that basically killed the Cubs' season (Cub fans know the game I speak of...Cubs could have tied St. Louis before the break, but noooo). How can anyone say the Cubs gave up on him too soon? The guy was there SIX YEARS. He couldn't get his shit together in that time?

Edge and Orton In the Midcard !
cabbageboy replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in The WWE Folder
I actually think Edge will be a perfect candidate if Batista wins the title. If Edge does win it though I think you'll see his character start to chill out and drop the gimmick of never getting the title. In effect, a face turn. -
Hell, it's TED FUCKING TURNER, he can air what he wants in whatever form he wants (thankfully not colorized anymore). Actually I do recall TCM having cuss words and stuff edited out, but that's when they used to not show many newer movies (as in post 1970 or so). But now they show a lot of R rated stuff and it's kinda fraudulent to say "We show stuff uncut and uninterrupted" if they actually CUT the film. TCM is actually quite different from when I first got it 10 years ago. Not as radically different as AMC (a station I now detest and refuse to watch), but they have subtly changed their lineup over time. Now they show stuff like Jaws at 8:00, safe programming that'll get ratings. Thing is, TCM doesn't really get any ratings per se. What happened to the days of having a Wheeler and Woolsey marathon in prime time? The world demands creaky RKO early talkies!
