    King Kong

Mega classics shouldn't be remade. If you do it too different like the 1976 film (Jeff Bridges looked like he was auditioning for The Dude there, haha) then people cry sacrilege. If you film it again scene for scene, people trash it like the 1998 Psycho. What would be sad is if this King Kong actually overtakes the original in popularity much like the Pacino Scarface did the original.

Just wondering but why was Michigan St. ranked #10 in one poll? I mean I know they are about 14-4 but doesn't 10 seem ludicrously high for them?

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

To answer some of this...I have seen Rondo gouge people in the eye in roughly FOUR games this year, so he's either trying to goon people or he's just reckless as hell going for the steal. Either way fouls need to be called. As far as the block on Hayes, that's just a typical iffy charge/block call. Those can go either way. The Sparks play at the end was actually reviewed at length. I'm mainly seeing the Bama goofs in chatrooms. Like last week they beat Ole Miss by 8 and Auburn by 5 and then come in the chat saying "We are awesome, we're going to the Final Four!" Meanwhile I'm thinking "You just beat Auburn by 5...."

Oh joy, now I get to go off on a tirade on the U of L/UK game. Let's review: 1. Yes I will admit Sparks went all white boy on fire against us. 2. UK gooned Palacios. I swear all Rajon Rondo can do is steal the ball and eye gouge. 3. Without Palacios we had no inside game and had friggin Ellis and Otis out there handling the ball at the 3 pt. line...not good. 4. Sparks travelled before he was fouled on the last play. Add that all up and it was just a bullshit, tainted win for UK. Be proud of the comeback, not the win itself. I usually hate talk of U of L and UK being in the same bracket, but this year I'll make an exception. I want UK again with a healthy lineup, say a 2/3 game in the Sweet 16. And yes, the SEC sucks all sorts of ass this year. That league might get about the same as CUSA really...4 bids. UK, Bama, FL, and maybe Miss St. if they get their act together. Alro, have you noticed these Bama idiot fans? These people who think that they are going to the FF this year. I mean Jesus people, don't you realize that Elite 8 was a FLUKE last year?

    Emmitt Smith

Barry Sanders is like the Ken Griffey, Jr. of football...the guy who puts up all the numbers but didn't really make his team notably better or win anything in the postseason. Add to it retiring early and he's not really the best ever by a long shot. I think Emmitt outta play one more year for the Cowboys and go out with them....hell it's not like they aren't signing every old bum they can find anyway.

    King Kong

Oh god, Adrien Brody as the HERO in this version? Isn't there some sort of macho dude out there that could have done this better? Naomi Watts is ok but not remotely on Fay Wray's level of hotness. Jack Black as Denham is an interesting choice though, I kinda like it. Why do I have a feeling that this movie won't make as much money as they are hoping? My feelings on it are "It might be ok, but why remake King Kong? I can just watch the original and it still holds up quite well for its age."

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

You know why I think all 5 get out of CUSA? Because there will likely be some god awful 4 way tie atop the conference. That's the reason jobbers like DePaul got in last year. The best teams in CUSA can play with anyone. Yeah I know U of L lost to UK by 2 but anyway who saw that game knows the deal there. Cincy lost by 4 to Wake, close game. Charlotte lost in double OT to Bama by 1. I do agree that the bottom feeders in CUSA significantly hurt the league.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

That loss to Houston was with Taquan Dean not playing due to back spasms and Otis George was hurt as well...and we of course were fucked by the refs, haha. I hope we get them again in the CUSA tourney so we can kill them by about 40. Incidentally, how is CUSA all that down this year? I know Memphis is crap and Marquette has taken lumps with Diener hurting, but take a look...there are 5 teams that will likely get in from the league. U of L, Cincy, Charlotte, DePaul, and UAB. You know with U of L finishing top 10 in football and now ranked top 10 in both basketball polls it made me think....is it possible U of L can become a real rarity, the program that is good in both? Right now there really aren't many like this, maybe Texas and Oklahoma is all I can currently think of.

What will Orton do at WM?

I think at this point they just need to trade him to SMDN after WM. He'll probably be jobbing to whoever he faces at WM, so it won't matter if he leaves. Loser leaves Raw or something like that. This concussion thing has bad idea written all over it. It's bound to turn out he's brain damaged now, or out of it, or suffering from amnesia. Heh maybe it's just HHH fucking with him.

I think Pitt is kinda underrated in the polls. They have put some solid wins on the board of late, and I think they're the best team in the BE. I am SO not sold on BC. Take a look at their schedule and see why. U of L not in either of those top 10s? We killed Marquette by 47 and Tulane by 36 this week and OU and Wash both lost. Actually that's ok with me since I'd rather U of L lurk under the radar rather than get overhyped like the past 2 years.

The OAO WWE Royal Rumble 2005 Thread

Don't worry about Cena, he is obviously going to Mania to take the title from Bradshaw at this point. I did the old Zapruder frame by frame on that finish and Batista's legs were both down a fraction of a second before Cena. Gee, the Rumble finish being rushed due to HHH's match going over...what are the odds? Though if anything I would have rather them shaved off some of Edge/Shawn since that match seemed overlong considering both guys were doing double duty.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

Is anyone else getting the vibe that UConn is on the bubble? Every time they seemingly have a shot at winning some sort of substatial game they are jobbing. I honestly can't think of a single notable win they have...hell their best win might be over INDIANA. Think about that! Dear god, do you guys realize UK will be in the top 5 this week due to Wake and Cuse both losing? I think U of L will likely get to 9 or so due to OK St., Wash, and Zona all jobbing.

The OAO WWE Royal Rumble 2005 Thread

I'm not exactly sure what was up with Orton tonight but he looked like he got the shit beat out of him. I think we can safely rule him OUT of the title scene at this point, he got decisively squashed. I dunno if it was mentioned in the thread but I did a Zapruder type slo mo on the final seconds and I think Batista's legs hit before Cena. Don't be shocked if Teddy Long uses this to give Cena the WWE title match at WM. In fact, it's likely. Why is everyone making a big deal out of the Vince thing? I was so wrapped up in the intensity of the Rumble and who was going to win that I could have cared less about Vince being hurt or not getting the mic himself. If anything I PREFER Finkel's professional announcement rather than a goofy Vince rant. This show was awesome tonight.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

I like Pitt, they're kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. Why is OSU such a huge disappointment? They've lost road games at Texas and OU, not really shocking upsets (they might have been underdogs in both). They lost to Gonzaga as well, that was kinda odd but Zaga is still ranked. I think OSU mainly won the conf. last year because it was a bit down, not much but just enough. Texas lost TJ Ford, Kansas wasn't that good, OU was mediocre, etc. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention UK barely escaped Arkansas by 1 yesterday. Just another game that illustrates why UK isn't going anywhere this year, I don't care how well they do in the SEC. You cannot go around winning 68-67 games in the tourney, your luck will run out (a la UAB). Anyone wanna take a guess on which C-USA JTTS team UK will lose to in the tourney this year? I'm thinking Charlotte in a 2/7 type matchup.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

I figured Pitt would win that one at home...Cuse is soooo not as good as their ludicrously inflated 20-2 record. They have mostly played jobbers and barely gotten by even competent teams. And yes, U of L did in fact squash Tulane by 36 tonight. Top 10 just in time for Cincy to roll into town. I think Dick Bennett actually retired from Wisconsin and then came out of retirement to coach WASU?

Heh, I wonder if that James Whale is related to the director of Frankenstein? Hey, someone had to say it.

Heh instead we get that epic DePaul/Memphis game over Ga Tech/Wake. Va Tech wins yet again! Hell they are about 3rd right now in the ACC. I don't think they even finished that high back in the old school Metro, haha.

    RVD has knee surgery today

In all seriousness, this is actually a good thing for RVD career wise. Look, he hasn't been going anywhere for the past 2 years anyway so it's not like he's in the midst of some career defining push. He's going to be sorely missed on SMDN (he's one of the few guys the crowd actually LIKES without prodding). When he gets back he'll blow the roof off and I think definitely be a contender. I'd have him come back and feign teaming with Rey again, only to just DESTROY him and turn heel and ignite a feud. From there RVD can go after whoever has the title, provided the Bradshaw disaster has ended.
  19. The Sixth Sense ruined horror movies in so many different ways. 1. It made popular the lame twist ending or "it's not over yet" bullshit that we see in every other film made today. 2. It started the excruciating genre of freaky little kids that are seeing ghosts or are possessed in some way. Yeah I know The Shining did it earlier but it didn't cause such mass imitation at the time. 3. It started every horror film/suspense film producer wanting to go for the PG-13 in a genre that has always been on the exact other end of the ratings spectrum. There's also the recent zombie flicks like 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead remake, and Shaun of the Dead. I like Shaun best mainly because it actually grasps the concept of zombies.

No Terrell Owens in Super Bowl

Thank you, Steve Smith! At first I actually thought Freddie Mitchell was doing a sort of postmodern irony type joking with all his People's Champ stuff and the various silly names and hype. Kinda like a jobber that knows he sucks, we know he sucks, but he pimps himself hard and we laugh. The disturbing thing is that now I think Mitchell takes himself SERIOUSLY, as in he really thinks he is all this stuff.

    The 2005 Oscar Nominees

Moulin Rouge is just one of those movies I don't GET. The whole thing with busting out into Teen Spirit and everything else in 1900 Paris....I know it's trying to be anachronistic, but that's still stupid. Guys, you have to realize that the Oscars are for so called prestige pictures, artsy stuff. And yes I know Eternal Sunshine is an artsy type flick but maybe the voters didn't think it was THAT good. Hell, I wasn't all that enthralled with it...I mean it was going ok but once Jim Carrey started hiding from the procedure with Kate's help I thought "This is getting really goofy." Forget Spidey 2 being nominated for best picture...it's slow going stuff really, with a heel that is drastically underused. I go to see Spidey fight a megalomaniacal heel bent on taking over the world, with a bit of Peter Parker's personal life on the side...not a bunch of shit about his love life and woes with a little bit of Doc Ock thrown in. I think I liked Hellboy better, at least it balanced his love life crap with the action part of the plot. And no, Hellboy shouldn't get nominated either.

Did we ever put an assraping on Marquette last night or what? It was sorta tainted since Diener was hurt but that was unmitigated bitchslapping right there. I actually turned off Duke/MD when Duke got up 8 in the 2nd half. I figured hell this is over at Cameron. I wasn't shocked to hear Maryland won though...Duke isn't shit this year.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

Dama, I know OSU got to the FF and they were a deserving team since they basically went through all the tough guys in that bracket (Pitt, St. Joes), but they were the weakest of the four teams left. They lost to Ga Tech in what wasn't particularly an upset, and I think either Duke or UConn would have beaten them by 10. Tonight we have Marquette...KILL DIENER!

    Largely forgotten

It's a 1989 movie, yo. SOMEONE had to use a skateboard in it! Haha. By the way someone mentioned Cry Baby earlier but I do believe that was 1990.

Funny, I would trust Sampson more than the guy who ran the greatest basketball program in the country nearly to oblivion. Maybe that's just me. Surely there is some sort of Red Sox type curse on Eddie Sutton for that crap at UK. OU is a nice team but it seems like at some point in the tourney they just can't shoot for shit. It happened against IU in 2002 (that year I swore OU was the best team too), and in 2003 they didn't do shit vs. the Cuse zone. Thank God Illinois beat Wisconsin tonight. It's not that I care about either team, but at least this means Duke won't be moving up to #1. I swear this bleh Duke team being #1 is the national nightmare.
