The Orange Bowl Thread, Take 2

Sure, Cincy is also leaving C-USA for the Big East (which was primarily for basketball but they had to take the football jobbers as well). I believe S. Florida is also joining the Big East so they could have an inroad into Tampa, even though no one down there cares about USF.
  2. I think the thing about Brady is that even though he has won two SBs there's this vague aura of "I am a lucky motherfucker" about him. He's really never had to do something jaw dropping or make some insane comeback that would make people stand up and say "This guy rules." Against the Rams in the SB what did he do besides huff and puff his way just enough for a FG at the end of the game? Or last year against the Panthers, he goes just far enough for another FG after John Kasay KICKED THE BALL OUT OF BOUNDS. I've yet to see Brady truly do that defining drive when his team is down 4 and needs the TD to win. Most of his wins are these unimpressive 14-10 type wins over the Browns or Texans.

How come no one has mentioned Louisville as a potentially awesome BCS team next year? The transition from LeFors to Brohm will be relatively easy and we're headed to the Big East where the best team is that bunch of Pitt jobbers that Utah maimed. I doubt we'll be nat. title worthy (Big East sucks after all, and we might lose a game or two in a transition year), but if we don't make the BCS there will be some pretty pissed off people here. As far as White goes, yeah I know he was hurt last year but quite honestly I saw no real difference in his performance this year when he WAS healthy.

    Live Smackdown Report

I can't believe I just saw a match result of "Doug Basham pins RVD." What in the name of fuck are these people thinking? Could this be some sort of punishment for RVD not going to Iraq?

You know, as I sat back and watch this ass raping tonight I couldn't help but wonder what was going on in here with Dama. For some bizarre reason I couldn't help but think before this game that OU was going to win...perhaps I actually bought into his White pimping and the media's infatuation with White "redeeming himself." Yet a part of me deep down sorta realized that this was going to happen...I recall asking my dad about the BCS fiasco recently: "Who would you take out of this game for Auburn? USC or Oklahoma?" "I'd take out Oklahoma...that White asswipe is a flat out bum. Is it true they are going to repossess his Heisman?" It's funny, but I think we all knew that White was going to choke and stink up the joint again tonight. Even when Dama blathered on and on about how White should get his 2nd Heisman (and check threads, I was basically the only one who called him out on how much of a joke that really was). Anyway, I remember him saying that he considered going to U of L at one point so I won't trash him any further.

A-10 surpasses non-BCS leagues in FB ratings

The A 10 being ahead of C-USA is a joke....think any of those division AA teams want a crack at U of L?

Anchorman- The Legend of Ron Burgundy

That was Tim Robbins who was the public news leader. Surprised no one said it. On a 2nd viewing there were some plot problems or general issues I had with it. Mainly is that the audience is sorta supposed to side with Christinia Applegate being oppressed for being the lone female reporter, yet she reveals herself to be such a bitch (those who have seen it no how) that it's impossible to really side with her. I'm just saying if I'm Will Ferrell I'd have a VERY hard time forgiving that shit.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

This is so fucking stupid. Thing is, they are NOT IN LA! I mean, literally not in Los Angeles county. They are in Orange County, and that is not the same as LA.

    Shaun Alexander

I think he is more pissed that they didn't give him enough carries to get the rushing title. Hell, he may have had an incentive in his contract and might feel that they intentionally prevented him from getting the rushing title to save money.

    NFL Week 17

Why isn't anyone joyous that Carolina isn't making the playoffs? That was a doomsday scenario in my opinion, because they might well have had a puncher's chance against anyone. God bless the Saints, I swear I was the ONLY person who said they were going to win that game today. The Vikings backing in after losing to the Redskins is a disgrace. My jaw dropped when I saw that score, I mean I just thought "How the fuck can they LOSE to the Redskins with the playoffs at stake???" I am also very impressed with the Steelers. They won at Buffalo today with basically their backups, right? It's weird that no one seems to think the Steelers will go to the Super Bowl at 15-1, most seem to pick either the Pats or Colts out of the AFC. Denver is awful. They are having trouble beating the Colts with Jim Sorgi, how sad. Question: if Denver loses to Sorgi, what happens then? Do the Ravens get in? Jags? If the Jags then the Colts outta just HAND the win to Denver, since the Jags is a much harder matchup for the Colts.

    NFL Week 17

The Vikings can still end up getting in the playoffs anyway, can't they? Even if they find a way to lose they'd be 8-8 and could get in. How the hell could a team with that kind of talent go .500 though? How could they consider keeping Mike Tice under that scenario? I'm hoping the Colts don't just tank it today and let the Broncos have a free ride. It'd just be like last year anyway, Colts would get them the first round and crush em.

The Daily Bowl Discussion Thread: January 1st

Auburn won't kill Va Tech. Tech ain't no jokers, heh. I think it's mainly just that everyone thinks Auburn is getting screwed by the BCS and that the game itself is uninteresting. I'd find it really ironic if Va Tech beats their asses though. Hey, it happened to Cal. Question: Should Utah get a share of the nat. title? Seriously, when has a team gone 12-0, won a major bowl game, and not gotten ANY consideration for the title? As far as that Pitt fiasco last night, Palko has to get rid of the ball. Obvioulsy he wasn't a real fast scrambler, so just toss it, get rid of it. He had all sorts of time on a bunch of those sacks, but he wouldn't just throw it in the crowd. Those weren't "Holy shit I had 1 second" kind of sacks, he had about 5 seconds on several but had no idea what to do. Looks like U of L will have to save the Big East's automatic bid, heh.

That Utah/Pitt game was a total disgrace. Pitt had absolutely no business being in a major bowl game. I kept kinda hoping they wouldn't suck as bad as they did tonight, mainly since U of L is going to the Big East and I don't want the conf.'s bid in jeopardy. I would have loved to see U of L play that Utah team. Win or lose it'd have been a blast to watch. Dama is correct with his feelings on Utah I think, and I'll even go further and say Utah may well be the best team in the country. Jesus, I loved watching that tonight. They run an offense that's seemingly light years ahead of what everyone else is doing, and man I loved that blitzing defense. Fuck doing the prevent, just blitz a jobber like Palko and he was clueless. Palko seriously has to improve his reactions to a blitz. How many times did he have all day back there and just stumble backwards and get sacked for a loss of 10? Tonight showed everyone what to do against Pitt, just blitz the shit out of them. Shame to end a great day of football with that garbage game. LSU/Iowa, Texas/Michigan, and Georgia/Wisconsin were all good to great games.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

Well the reality is that Ga Tech wasn't really THAT great last year in the tourney. It's not like they were the 1996 UK team or something. These guys beat N. Iowa by 5, BC by like 3, Nevada by 5, Kansas in OT, and OK St. by 2. That's like the least impressive tourney run for ANYONE who has ever made the title game. I'm fairly sure they are a 1 year wonder and this year will likely get upset in an early round rather than go back to the FF. Incidentally, aren't Kansas some lucky bastards? They were basically garbage in that game yet the crowd seemingly willed them to that win today. I couldn't help watching that Kansas will get SOOOO exposed next week when they journey at long last outside their home court and play UK at Rupp. Now, anyone who has posted here knows I'm not real high on UK this year, but they'd have to be truly ass this year to lose to Kansas AT Rupp. I think UK is like 30-3 lifetime vs. Kansas.
  15. Rudo is dead on re: Angle's promos. I dunno if anyone else has delved much into this, but here's another reason I am hesitant to regard Angle highly. He rips people off too much. Angle's matches often revolve around him doing the anklelock (Ken Shamrock), the triple belly to back suplexes (Benoit), and sometimes he uses the old figure 4 around the post (Bret). It's like watching an indie guy pay tribute to the serious wrestlers he's seen on TV. Rudo is also correct in pointing out that just getting the crowd to pop during your match isn't the same as having a good match. There's a certain....manipulative aura to Angle's matches. The Austin ones for instance, or the Edge series. They are mainly "Hey I'll hit you with my finisher and you kick out, then you hit me with yours and I'll kick out!" I recall that one PPV with Angle/Edge and people raved about it, whereas I much preferred the Eddie/RVD match on the show. It didn't have as many near falls, but the actual flow and psychology (in an RVD match?!) was better.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

On Cold Pizza yesterday Woody Paige said his title game would be a UNC/UK rematch. Huh? Has he seen something to UK that I haven't? All I see from UK come tourney time is a bunch of freshmen and the inevitable Patrick Sparks 2 for 14 shooting night. Yeah I know Sparks royally fucked U of L in the ass, but that was his career night. It's really just fool's gold, since at WKU Sparks shot them out of some critical games. Frankly I don't think either U of L or UK is worth a damn this year, neither will even get to the Sweet 16. Right now if I had to guess a FF it'd be Illinois, UNC, maybe someone like Pitt can finally break through, and perhaps Gonzaga if Turiaf is healthy.

The Daily Bowl Discussion Thread: December 31st

Well I guess the theory on college football is to root for the teams your team plays because their results affect how your team fares in the BCS or some such crap. I'll put it this way in regards to basketball. C-USA had 6 bids last year. Do you seriously think I was glued to my TV cheering on the dubious likes of Cincy, Memphis, and DePaul?? If anything I wanted them all to get stomped the 1st round. Ideally I want my team to do well while rivals go down to bitter defeat, heh.
  18. I actually don't like Angle's mic work THAT much. It's smarmy and amusing but that's not really what I want from a top guy. You have to take a top guy seriously. Oddly enough despite his crap wrestling I think Bradshaw is much easier to take as a top guy on the mic than Angle. Angle has always been too comedic and a joke, it's hard to take him seriously as someone who could kick ass.

Amen Shadow...I feel the exact same way. I'm a Louisville fan (earlier I screwed up and was posting under my bro's ID on here, spideyfan) but there's no way I'd cheer for Cincy AT ALL. Hell, they got killed by Illinois tonight in basketball and it amuses me greatly. Hell, when Kenyon Martin broke his leg against St. Louis in 2000 it made my day (there were extenuating circumstances there). Besides, why would I even CARE what C-USA did in the bowls? U of L is leaving now anyway so fuck em all.

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King EE

I actually don't think that is accurate...I remember we discussed this stuff before the movie came out, the Sauron stuff. I'm not 100% but I think he did have a form in the book, but just doesn't technically APPEAR in the book. Ah well I'm sick of arguing it.

The Daily Bowl Discussion Thread: December 30th

I said two things when Cal got "screwed" out of the Rose Bowl: 1. I thought Texas getting it was a joke since it marred the usual Pac 10/Big 10 matchup and it made no sense. 2. Cal isn't that great. I saw them huff and puff their way past a less So. Miss team, barely edged Oregon, etc. I would go off on a rant like "U of L would take these guys" but I have a BAD feeling about tomorrow. Petrino has been rumored to go to LSU and I have a feeling we might be distracted and tank the game against Boise. I say let the fucker go if he wants to so bad. The program is in tip top shape right now...we could just hire anyone fairly competent and go to the BCS next year.

Mizzou is fairly tough at home and Gonzaga had the obvious letdown after OK St. Besides, isn't Turiaf kinda hurt? Not a bad loss really, they'll cruise in the WCC from here, doubt they even lose another game. I gotta go with the line of reasoning that Kansas will lose 2nd round. They have NOT been impressive thus far, beating S. Carolina by 4 and Vermont by 7. With Simien hurt they'll probably get waxed by UK (although with UK we're dealing with another overrated team, but it's at Rupp so they should win). NC St. got punked by St. John's of all people, WTF?

    ESPN's Top 10 games of 2004

OK St. and St. Joes was good but I'm always hesitant to put a game that is 64-62 as a top 10 game of the year. Such a low score reflects poorly on the shooting at some point.

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King EE

I certainly agree that the movies are awesome, but that little Sauron thing has just always bothered me a little bit. I assume the "Not a Christian?" comment is referring to the devil as an unseen heel. At least in movies the devil is THERE however (Pacino in Devil's Advocate, Claude Rains in Angel on My Shoulder, etc.).
  25. cabbageboy

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King EE

Well, the entire basic setup is flawed....I mean a heel that is an unseen presence? What kind of shit is that? It wouldn't have been that hard to do though. I think Sauron actually WAS in human form in the book, although it's vaguely mentioned as such. I thought he might just be hiding in his tower or something, then we see him blow up when the ring is destroyed. Thus, he could be in human form but not really all powerful because he didn't have the ring.
