What the hell consitiutes a "cameo"
cabbageboy replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in Television & Film
I think Walken actually got a billing though, so that's more of a small role than cameo. I think a cameo is something that isn't really necessary or even billed, just someone showing up to say "Sup?" As in Anchorman, I'd say the Stiller, Vaughn, etc. appearances are cameos. Just notable names showing up to fuck around. Ditto Bruce Willis in the new Ocean's 12. One of the funnier cameos I've seen was in another Hope movie, The Princess and the Pirate. At the end Hope seemingly has won the princess (Virginia Mayo) and then she runs off into the arms of her "true love." And it turns out to be Bing Crosby! Hope fires off a classic line: "I work hard for 9 reels only to lose the girl to a bit part player from Paramount? This is the last picture I ever do for Goldwyn." Come to think of it, pretty much all the Hope/Crosby movies have out of nowhere cameos. The Road movies for instance. Does Brian Dennehy's so called cameo in the South Park movie count? Or was that even him doing the voice? That was funny as hell. -
Am I the only one who didn't think "Oh my god, Eternal Sunshine was the best movie ever?" It was okay I suppose. Ironically I thought Winslet would get the nomination here, and likely the script will get nominated since it's a nice gimmick and all. But the best movie I've ever seen? Wouldn't even make the top 100. Incidentally there are a bunch of no name indie art house movies that look to be nominated this year: ESOFSM, Sideways, Kinsey, Finding Neverland, etc. I do want to see Finding Neverland but it hasn't been on at a convenient theater near me. Whatever happened to movies getting released to a lot of theaters? Do we really need 3 theaters taken up for Blade: Trinity?

This reminds me of the Chris Rock routine on infidelity, where he says something along the lines of "When you cheat on your wife, she basically has a Get Some Dick For Free card. And she can cash it in at any time."

I don't know why some critics have trashed the movie saying "Blade should be a loner." The irony here is that in the comic books I remember Blade was merely one of the Nightstalkers to begin with! They did it sorta ass backward in the films, since he was a loner and then the group appears in this film, instead of the usual "Dude in a group breaks off" stuff.

The Vikings always mystify me. You look at that team and you'd think they have the talent to do what the Eagles are doing...then week after week they fuck off and find ways to lose games. My brother rants about it constantly and we're not even Viking fans, heh. He's like "These idiots do not have a clue how to use their talent on offense...they should be going to Randy Moss, not Burleson or Wiggins or these other jobbers." It's funny but use the Vikings on Madden sometime. They are AWESOME when you just jack it up to Moss. Then try using the actual offense suggested by the game (which goes to a bunch of different receivers) and see how mediocre they are.

The Reason is more overrated than actively bad, if that makes any sense. As in if it was a song on the album but wasn't a main single you'd like it, but it getting played constantly wore it out.

Just wondering but is there really a QB in this year's draft that will be a surefire 1st round pick? I can't think of anyone that jumps out. Frankly, the Heisman ballot has just become a popularity contest for the guys on the best teams. It lost all credibility to me when Charles Woodson won it over Manning in 1997. The guy parlayed half a dozen nice plays into winning the Heisman. Given Manning's recent run that voting looks even more idiotic than it was at the time.

Pretty interesting call having Marquette ranked...I don't know of a poll they are ranked in but they are unbeaten right now and did just take out Wisconsin. I disagree with Ga Tech being #1 though. Illinois thus far has looked like a pretty solid #1 team to me....Tech barely beat UIC by 1, though they've been solid otherwise.

Dama, all season I think I kept trying to tell you there was no way White was going to win another Heisman, no matter what he did. There was likely a sour taste with voters on the free fall he had last year after securing the Heisman votes, and it hurt him here. Besides, voters had one thing to think about: Did they really wanna give the most prestigious college football award TWICE to a guy who might not even make an NFL roster, or likely would be 3rd string if he did?

Is it just me or does Swayze get overshadowed by some madman supporting actor in a lot of movies? In Road House Sam Elliott and in Next of Kin Liam Neeson. Hell, even Busey had his moments in Point Break. Road House also had the immortal fight scene with Swayze ripping the guy's throat out after the dude says "I used to fuck punks like you in prison." How can you NOT like this movie? Haha. Anyway I thought Team America rocked, no disappointment there for me. I was baffled about the statement it was trying to make, but it was certainly funny.

I think that hate comment meant it was X Pac type hate. Heh. I'll hopefully go see this sometime soon. Gonna see Ocean's 12 tomorrow though. As far as Blade goes, I think #2 is the best of the series. The first film is a little slow going, kinda like it needed about 20m cut out of it somewhere. It has a better storyline than Blade 2, but I think 2 is the better actual film, if that makes any sense. It has a good enough plot, absolutely bitching action scenes, and who can deny the awesomeness of.....REINHARDT~!?

Oh god, speaking of those Korn covers the other day I heard their version of "Another Brick in the Wall" on the radio. It was so hilariously terrible I had to wonder if they were doing it deliberately. Hell, they even ended the song EARLY on the station, going to the DJ as the song limped to its end. Oddly enough I thought the Word Up cover was surprisingly ok.

I put down the Ravens. Most of these teams aren't really good enough record wise to think they'd be a legit playoff team anyway. Ravens might have killed their chances vs. Cincy though. Ravens screwed the Ravens!

What exactly is the point of taking Lesnar back? Bring him back and give him a huge push and the whole roster might revolt. If you job him out to everyone under the sun then he really has no heat and no possibility of drawing money. I suppose the best thing to do is bring him back, job him in a very tough match to someone high up on the roster (paying the dues), and then slowly begin to push him again.

Road House is awesome. Ditto Next of Kin. Let us all bow down to the awesomeness of Swayze! (In all seriousness Liam Neeson is cool as hell in Next of Kin.) I heard about Drac being the heel in Blade:Trinity and thought to myself "Isn't this a bit....anachronistic?" I mean, Dracula represents the oldest of old school vampire gothic horror, whereas the Blade series represents vampire movie as actioner. Just try to picture Bela Lugosi or even Christopher Lee busting out the kung fu against Blade (well ok I can imagine Lee since he fought Yoda). Holy shit I stumbled onto a good idea: Why didn't they get Christopher Lee to play Drac in this? He's older than dirt but as Ep. 2 showed he can do a bit of physical stuff. Get a stunt double to do the really strenuous stuff.

This is the definition of a waste of time and money. None of these guys will ever see jail time (well maybe the couple of fans) so I don't see much point in this. I guess it's a token "Yeah we gotta arrest somebody" thing.

WWE News and Notes from the 12/13 WO
cabbageboy replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
It's funny how everyone seized on the "Vince wants Bradshaw in the title scene for all of 2005" part of this, because that's exactly what I nearly choked on while reading. Just wondering but WHY do the TE guys draw more ratings than anyone else? Is it people just curious to see who is eliminated next? Fascinating to see that Angle loses so many viewers, and that guys like Eddie and RVD draw viewers. The curious aspect of this is that RVD never used to have that kind +100,000 effect on Raw. -
I don't think so actually. The Steelers are the worst possible matchup for the Colts. Oddly enough if I'm the Colts I'd feel optimistic about a Pats rematch, since they should have won the previous matchup (seriously is Edgerrin James gonna fumble twice in the Red Zone again, Manning get sacked like that again, another INT in the endzone again?). But the Steelers? They grind it out on the ground. If you recall Denver had success vs. the Colts last year doing this in the reg. season game. Get those 3-4 yard runs, keep the clock moving, Manning gets no time of possession. That'd be a difficult matchup for the Colts.

I do agree that hanging around too long can hurt your legacy. Thing is, you have to look at it from a couple of decades (like 2025 or so). By that point SURELY Flair would be retired and then we will begin to forget his mediocre later years. It seems like everyone has them: Jordan, Rice, Unitas, etc. It's rare that a great player or wrestler hangs em up when the time is right. Elway is one of the few who did, but he accomplished his main goal of winning the SB late in his career.

Switchfoot isn't really horrible or anything...they just aren't anything either way. I'm glad someone mentioned 3 Days Grace. Those guys are fucking garbage. I Hate Everything About You is an excruciating song, one that prompts me to flip the station every time. Just Like You isn't quite as bad but it's close. I liked someone's analysis on how rap/country could work, but stuff like Big & Rich does it no favors. It's like they just haphazardly throw a rap midsection into a song for the sake of being different.

Yeah but sometimes you gotta jettison some of the more soapish stuff in the comics. I mean, I for one was relieved when Singer tossed out the constant Cyclops/Jean Grey crap that bored me to tears on the old cartoon. Instead of downplaying this stuff Raimi actually focused on it. Thing is, that stuff is the SIDEPLOT, not the main plot. The main plot should be Spidey stopping the madman Doc Ock for destroying the city, with the Mary Jane/Aunt May/personal crisis stuff as the sideplot. I liked Troy a lot actually, but I've never read the Iliad so I wasn't up in arms over liberties taken.

Do not deny the greatness of Christmas Vacation.
cabbageboy replied to The Mandarin's topic in Television & Film
A Christmas Story is a nice movie but for some reason it's never been high on my list of stuff to watch in Dec. Maybe I first saw it when I was too old? I dunno. It's a bit too droll for its own good and really is more significant for someone who grew up in that time period. Personally I could give a shit less about a BB Gun. Christmas Vacation is great, I can practically quote the whole movie. That said I'm probably one of the few who thinks Eddie weakens the film once he gets into it (not much just a tad). -
It's weird but any time I get the urge to go to a club show something like this or the Great White fiasco happens. I know Pantera broke up, but don't recall the story behind that. What happened?

Heh, that OSU/Cuse game was the bone vs. club borefest I thought Pitt/Memphis would be. Well that game was too but at least I saw Memphis get the shit kicked out of them, which is always nice. Memphis is AWFUL this year, if U of L dares to lose to that bunch I will wear a sack over my head. In regards to Pitt, I figured out their blueprint: Start out 15-0 via a crap non conf. schedule, get to the top 5, then whine when they get a 2 or 3 seed due to their bad OOC schedule. And then be gone after the Sweet 16. Seriously, Pitt eventually just runs into someone who can actually SCORE and it's problematic for them since often times they can't.

I've always found Michaels incredibly overrated. This isn't to say I haven't liked some of his matches, but it was mainly him getting his ass kicked all over the place. This makes for a bad top face IMO...you shouldn't WANT to see the top face get the shit kicked out of him and take joy in it. Know what I mean? Shawn was always a terrible face as a singles wrestler, I know I never ever liked him or got behind him. Then again I've hated Michaels' guts ever since he beat Bulldog the IC title in 1992, so I'm biased.
