    Non-BCS Bowls

Oh I know. Tech can post some numbers. It wouldn't shock me if Cal lost that game actually. It's the Kansas St. phenomenon. Recall when they went 11-0 and then lost the Big 12 title game to Texas A & M, then fell all the way down to the Alamo Bowl against a Drew Brees led Purdue? Hell of a game, but KSU was clearly not 100% into it and Purdue ended up winning. Same thing could happen here, as Cal could just say "It's the Holiday Bowl, who gives a shit?"

    NFL Week 13

Actually I think Manning's stats are padded but not due to garbage time. It's because they constantly jack it up inside the 10 yard line! Seriously, watch a Colts game sometime. Edge hardly ever gets to finish a drive off: Peyton has to get his TD. Still, Manning is leagues above anyone else in football right now. As far as choking goes, I meant this year. The Vikings have done their share of choking in the past to be sure, but I have yet to see them do something on the level of what the Seahawks did last night or against the Rams so far this year.

    Most Disappointing Movie(s)

I'm telling you, Stephen Sommers got away with shitting all over the original Mummy movies, mainly because aside from the Karloff original (which isn't exactly how one THINKS of the Mummy) and maybe Mummy's Hand (which IS how everyone thinks of the Mummy, bandages and such) there really weren't too many quality Mummy movies. So when Sommers had a bald Shane McMahon as the Mummy I was a little irked but not up in arms over it. But in Van Helsing he had that idiot as Dracula (Lugosi must be rolling over in his grave), and I might be the only one who was pissed at the way the Wolf Man was used. The Wolf Man is a SPECIFIC CHARACTER, Lawrence Talbot. I didn't see Lawrence Talbot in this film, did you? There were werewolves in the film, but NOT the Wolf Man. The Frankenstein monster was actually done fairly decent in this film, though I've never gotten used to an articulate monster. The way it was done originally with the Monster being mute in the 1st, then learning to speak in the 2nd was the best way to do it.

    Non-BCS Bowls

Boise also had to go OT to beat San Jose St. and barely edged BYU by 1. Aside from the Miami loss U of L only had one other game that was even a contest, and that was Memphis. Poor Cal...they go from the Rose Bowl to playing a jobber like Texas Tech.

    NFL Week 13

It's funny but during the game last night I took a look at the Seahawks over the past 10 years. I think they are about 77-83 over that time, which is about as mediocre as you can get. All the years ranged from 6-10 to 10-6. They are never much more than a mediocre team. I've never seen a team so consistently mediocre: Not good enough to win anything big, but not bad enough to laugh at. Hell the Saints have been mediocre as well but at least they will toss in a 3-13 year that is entertaining in its awfulness. Just took a look at Seattle's remaining schedule. They have the Vikings and Jets on the road (likely two more losses), then the Cardinals at home. So basically they'll be about 7-8 when Vick and Co. come to town for the finale. The only thing I used to like about the Seahawks was those awesome teal/blue/green jerseys...and they changed those.

    NFL Week 13

Seattle has to be the biggest choke artist team in football...take a look at this one tonight and the Rams game from earlier. Both of them HOME losses. Just wondering but why exactly was Seattle this buzzworthy team before the season? Matt Hasselbeck hasn't ever been that great, defense is just sorta average, and their receivers are pathetic. When an ancient Jerry Rice is your best receiver, you're not that good.

    Most Disappointing Movie(s)

Revolutions was actually 2003. I expected NOTHING from that after Reloaded however. I gotta go with Van Helsing on this as well...I love the Univeral horror movies and this movie (especially that ass that played Drac) pissed all over those movies. Kill Bill Vol. 2 kinda disappointed me mildly. The first 90m or so was good but once the Bride met up with the Mexican pimp the movie just became a talky bore. Spidey 2 also mildly disappointed me...I don't go to see a movie called Peter Parker 2...I go to see SPIDER-MAN 2. That movie had way too much dreary talk and not enough of Spidey fighting Doc Ock. As far as Azkaban goes that was a real good movie, best of the series thus far. Certainly better than Shrek 2 or Spidey 2 among the big summer sequels.

    Non-BCS Bowls

U of L vs. Boise St. is easily the most notable non BCS game. I can't really see Boise putting up 50 or whatever people think on U of L's defense...we've been playing great lately on D.

I'd like to see U of L vs. Cal actually. Wish we'd had S. Miss on our schedule this year but for some reason it skipped that game this year. I won't argue that Cal had a tougher schedule than U of L. But I will say that Utah doesn't deserve it over U of L...they didn't play anyone near the level of Miami (and on the road to boot).

What will Bischoff say next week?

I say screw it and hold it up till the Rumble, put it up for grabs there....the thing is I'm not sure what would happen if a SMDN guy wins.

    Weekend Boxoffice Report, Dec 3-5

I'd say that Blade opening early is a good idea since I want to see both it and Ocean's 12. Not entirely sure how to do that though, might see one on Sat. and the other on Sun. Ocean's 12 is almost guarranteed huge money at the box office...look at that cast (Clooney, Pitt, Damon, Roberts, Zeta Jones, etc).

    NFL Week 13

From those schedules I'd have to agree that Denver would get in at about 10-6. Jax would end up about 9-7 I'd say since they'll likely lose at Lambeau. Ravens ditto at 9-7 since they have two road games vs. Colts and Steelers. Bengals look like 8-8 as well since they have the Pats and Eagles left, neither of which is all that winnable. Bill look like 8-8 or maybe 9-7 if they can take the Bengals. Texas are basically finished once the Colts stomp them again next week, they'll go about 6-10 or maybe 7-9 at best.

    NFL Week 13

Well, JAX is essentially done for in the powerful AFC. At 6-6 they have almost zero chance in the division since the Colts are just the bitchmasters right now. I guess that with the Ravens and the Broncos both losing they are still just 1 game out.

For the 4th time in 5 Years

I'm sorry dude but I SAW Cal last night against S. Miss and that is no national title caliber team. Auburn or OU would have stomped S. Miss (who is having an off year quite honestly...they were about 4th in C-USA). Hell it took a bizarre miracle play on an extra point for Cal to hold them off. But anyway they were totally fucked over in favor of Texas...a decision that makes NO sense whatsoever in that it gets rid of the traditional Pac 10/Big 10 Rose Bowl matchup in favor of a Texas/Michigan game with no sizzle at all. Nevermind Boise St., I think U of L should play Cal in a game of those fucked in the ass most by the BCS.

This Week in College Football 12/2 - 12/4

Dama, I'm glad that OU stomped the shit out of Colorado tonight. There's no way I could stomach GARY BARNETT and that bunch of trash in a BCS game. Since Cal didn't lose there is no way in hell they should be left out of the Rose Bowl. It would be utterly pathetic if they didn't do the Big 10/Pac 10 matchup when it's RIGHT THERE for them. I mean really, is there ANYONE that cares about the choking bitches at Texas? Sorry guys, you don't beat OU, you don't win the conference, you don't go to a decent bowl. U of L squashed Tulane 55-7 today, first team ever to score 50+ in 5 straight games. We'll make it 6 since I can't imagine Boise stopping us. Whether we can stop them is another matter.

This Indiscriminate time period in College Hoops

I am going down to Union Co. to visit some die hard UK fans on the 18th. If U of L wins I get to rub their noses in it, but man if UK wins they'll give me all sorts of shit. Heh. UK better worry about IU though, they are due a win. IU has played pretty well in two losses.

So Bonds admits to using steriods "Unknowingly"

I actually believed Sheffield since he was upfront about it in the media. Also, I put myself in his shoes. If someone handed me a cream would I figure it was a steroid or illegal in some way? Not really. Now if someone handed me a needle... Anyway I don't think this will end up amounting to a hill of beans. Bonds will still break the records, he'll still go to the Hall. The guy whose career is essentially over is Giambi...by being the most honest he essentially committed career suicide.

    The Machinist is in theaters

I don't think actors should do this. This sort of stuff can be very dangerous. I remember reading that Laird Cregar (a really solid 300 lb. actor from the 40s) lost about 100 lbs. for a role in the movie Hangover Square. The weight loss was so sudden however that he had a heart attack and died. Also, why risk your personal health over a movie that few people are going to see or give a shit about?

Breaking News: Urban Meyer accepts Florida job

Well, being from Louisville it's only a matter of time before the rumors about Petrino leaving start. Thing is, why would Petrino leave a program on a serious uptick like U of L--that is going to the Big East next year, BCS land--to go to ND?

WWE News And Notes From 12/6 Observer

"The final Saturday Night’s Main Event on Fox drew a 6.1 rating on October 27, 1992, with Warrior and Randy Savage v DiBiase and IRS in a tag title match as the main event." This is actually inaccurate info. Know why? I WENT to the big TV taping that happened right after this Sat. Night taping. The taping date is correct, since I went on Oct. 28. I remember being shocked at the time because they announced Michaels as the New IC champ, whereas nobody in the arena knew because his match with Bulldog hadn't been on TV yet (it was just the previous night). That match and the show didn't air until almost mid November, if you can imagine that. In fact I saw a Bulldog IC title defense on Prime Time Wrestling AFTER I knew he'd already lost the belt! If you are wondering how I remember this with such vividness, it's because I was a huge Bulldog fan and that match made me hate Shawn to this very day.

So Bonds admits to using steriods "Unknowingly"

Why is anyone shocked over this? I assumed that at least Bonds took the cream stuff once Sheffield came out with his anti Bonds rant about how Bonds and Co. gave him the cream and he took it unknowingly realizing it was a steroid. For the most part I believed Sheffield since he was so open about it in the media. From there you obviously know Bonds was using the cream himself. So in essence all they have on Bonds is the same stuff that Sheffield already admitted to using without any consequences. When someone comes out saying "I saw Bonds stick the needle in his ass" then this becomes truly huge.

What is Angle's hometown challenge building to?

I was wondering about this last night myself, kinda thinking "Aren't they wasting Angle on this? He's just squashing jobbers and trying to hook Luther up with a married chick" (Joy, if you recall Carmella's bashing didn't deserve a job because she was married and had kids...I can't believe I remember the details of the Diva Search). I would assume he'll keep this up a few weeks and then finally they'll get to someone's hometown and a real star will challenge Angle.

This Indiscriminate time period in College Hoops

The ACC/Big East conspiracy pertains to basketball, not so much football where the Big East especially is crap. Here goes: Since most of the major media is around the east coast they actively want teams from the ACC and Big East to do well, thus they give them the most media coverage and send the top announcers to those games. I ask you, where was the Big East before ESPN? Sure, the ACC was a credible conference before that but it took on added importance when you hear announcers like Vitale constantly pimping it. Ditto Billy Packer and his ilk. You almost NEVER hear the major networks or announcers give historically important programs like UK, IU, Kansas, or UCLA their due. And note how virtually anything west of the Mississippi is treated almost with contempt (Pac 10, Gonzaga, etc.). Even a league like C-USA that had a FF rep. in 2003 and SIX tourney bids last year is treated as a mid major joke. It's all "The ACC is great" and "The Big East is awesome" and after a while it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and all the best coaches and recruits go there and the leagues themselves expand to add it new members, of which my boys U of L are a newbie to the BE. Also, come tourney time it seems like these teams conveniently get draws right in their own area. Whenever Duke cruises to a Final Four, it's usually in part because they get two rounds right there in NC (Greensboro, Charlotte, Winston-Salem). I realize that UConn won both nat. titles coming from the west (though quite easy draws), but how about Syracuse getting to stay in state for the 2003 regionals? Meanwhile, Kentucky will get shipped to Birmingham (somewhat hostile SEC territory), or maybe up to Minneapolis (where they have to play nearby teams like Marquette or Wisconsin). Thus, it's all a vast conspiracy that no one especially ends up objecting to, unless you are a fan of teams like UK, OK St., Illinois, Kansas, etc. My team finally said "If you can't beat em, join em" and is headed to the Big East next year. So perhaps I'll have to amend my conspiracy to The ACC Conspiracy. Heh.

This Indiscriminate time period in College Hoops

Most announcers these days suck Favre's cock, so it's nothing shocking. Vitale can be effective when he's NOT calling an ACC game, but when he's calling the ACC, mute the TV. I would go off on my usual tangent about the ACC/Big East conspiracy, but since U of L is JOINING the Big East next year I'll refrain. Heh.

    Nirvana - Nevermind

In Utero was the album that changed the way I look at music. It's just an overwhelming, emotionally shattering experience for someone that is a freshman in HS. I've still never heard something like it. I got into Nirvana more around that time than Nevermind. I got it a few weeks later and I love the album (in fact listened to it in the car today), but it seems more like a great collection of songs than anything. But my god just LOOK at that album: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come As You Are, Breed, Lithium, Polly, etc. I'd put that first 6 up against anything. In Utero is a unified album. Imagine how much greater it'd be had I Hate Myself and Want to Die and Verse Chorus Verse had been included. I also picked up Incesticide and that's a very solid album as well. It isn't really a coherent whole (just a collection of outtakes) but I'd say about 11 of the 15 songs are good. Bleach is an acquired taste to be sure. I don't think the album has ever been released in a truly remastered form. The version on the CD of About a Girl sounds much worse than the version on the NIRVANA compilation from 2002. I'm a big Nirvana fan, but anyone who thinks Bleach is their BEST album is loony. Someone should start a thread on the new box set. I'll probably get it for Christmas.
