    BCS Week 6 Standings

Bear in mind that Cal barely escaped against Oregon recently by 1, so they might not stomp Michigan. I want to hear why Georgia passed U of L in the BCS. I guess it's better to play NO ONE than squash a jobber.

    history of ECW DVD

Having watched every minute of ECW after said Dreamer title win I can tell you there is little storywise to discuss. Just Justin Credible's awful title run, being cancelled by TNN, and staggering to bankruptcy. There WERE some individaully great matches during this period however.

    BCS Week 6 Standings

How come no one has pointed out some total bullshit involving Louisville? Last week U of L is #10 in the BCS and did nothing wrong (in fact we squashed Houston bad). Yet lo and behold Georgia (who I don't think even PLAYED) and Miami (jobber squash) somehow passed the Cards in the BCS for no apparent reason. Yet neither team passed Boise, who moved up. I'm personally pissed at this. I thought U of L would move up to about #7 or 8 in the BCS given the Michigan and FSU losses, and maybe still have a very slight shot at the BCS if a few teams are upset. Fuck the BCS.

No, the Big East cannot become a mid major! U of L is joining next year. I refuse to go from one shitty mid major league to another! Heh. I have a lousy feeling that U of L will end up #7 in the BCS at season's end, meaning they'll get screwed. We do need to take care of Cincy though, they've been jobbers on fire of late. If Cal or Texas loses then this gets very interesting. I think Auburn would get a BCS bowl at 11-1, even if they lose to TN.

UNC loses preseason opener to Santa Clara...

Isn't the Final Four about as far as you can go in basketball? Anyway, OU lost to Kansas in the title game in 1988 by about 2 pts I think. Never a good thing to play the same team 4 times, heh. Ask UK in 1986 about that...they beat LSU 3 times that year and yet faced them again in the Elite 8...where LSU upset them by 2. The irony is that if UK had just won that game it would have been a Bluegrass Apocalypse: U of L vs. UK in the Final Four!

    Return of the King EE.

I'm glad he used the Army of the Dead, since it caused a major markout for me when Aragorn and the Dead Army showed up in Gondor. How else can they explain how the city was saved?

    history of ECW DVD

When someone mentioned Corino I immediately thought of his two crowning moments in ECW, both of which involved getting the shit kicked out of him: --His match at Hardocre Heaven 2000 where he did a massive bladejob and Tajiri just BEAT his ass. His hair was totally red from blood and Tajiri knocked blood off Corino ONTO THE CAMERA. --The aforementioned Jerry Lynn "DIE" match. It certainly proved Jerry could be a sick bastard if need be. Incidentally, the Van Terminator wasn't totally perfected in ECW. The best one I saw RVD do was when he nailed Heyman using the chair himself, instead of having someone hold it. That was awesome.

    history of ECW DVD

Does anyone think that the excellent sales of this DVD might cause Vince to stop and think that maybe ECW has a fanbase out there, and that restarting the company with Heyman and CO. under the WWE umbrella would be a good idea? I think Corino was one of the most vocal guys about Heyman not paying near the end, thus Heyman still has ill will. Besides what are you gonna put with Corino, that he blades a lot?

    history of ECW DVD

Oh this is the best WWE produced DVD simply because most people tell it like it is. As I said I haven't seen much of Benoit's ECW work so I can't rate his match with Al Snow. I also like the RVD/Sabu series from 1996. There isn't that ONE match that I'd take to a desert island, but they're all just crazy shit. The Stretcher match, the one with the broken ring (the most dangerous match I've ever seen without gimmickry), etc. If you like diamond cutters off the top rope (with Rob's legs getting caught..he damn near folds backwards!), DDTs through tables, and monkeyflips onto the poking legs of chairs, this is the series for you! It's the most violent wrestling I've ever seen that doesn't include Japanese death shit with explosives and barbed wire, just standard wrestling with maybe standard ECW use of tables and chairs.

    Return of the King EE.

I actually prefer TTT theatrical. Let's face it, no one gives a shit about Merry and Pippen dicking around with the trees and arguing over who is taller. The theatrical version cut out a lot of useless crap. There was maybe one awesome scene in the EE, namely Boromir/Faramir/Steward and that backstory. ROTK will have all sorts of pertinent stuff added though. Hell, they dropped entire subplots like Faramir and Eowyn.

UNC loses preseason opener to Santa Clara...

Dama, for whatever it's worth I think OU is the best program that's never won it all in basketball. They were the best team in 1988 and frankly I thought they were the best team in 2002, but never quite got it done.

Back to Utah for a moment. Believe me, this is the friggin BCS, they'll find a way to fuck someone out of a bowl if they can help it. I'm not entirely sure WHO would pass them to get to #6 though. That said, I'd like someone to explain to me how Texas would get screwed out of a BCS game if they are ranked HIGHER in the BCS than Utah, have played a harder schedule, and the 1 loss was to a team in the title game. That said, I kinda hope Texas loses and U of L can somehow sneak into one of those BCS spots. It's damn near impossible, but hey, Michigan and FSU are out of the way now.

    HOLY FUCKIN SHIT

In an odd way I think Artest might be a pioneer here. Fans have gotten to the point where they feel that anything is ok to do to the players: throwing batteries, beer, hell I recall a game between U of L and Memphis St. back in the day where a KNIFE was thrown on the court. Artest is going to be punished for his actions, but it might have a chill effect on idiot fans if they know think a player might retaliate to the abuse.
  14. cabbageboy

    HOLY FUCKIN SHIT

The skeptic in me says that Artest and Co. won't be suspended beyond the Christmas game. They HAVE to be back for that one. After all, there are ratings and money to be considered here. I can see giving someone 30 games for attacking a fan outside an arena, or going after some idiot fan who was badmouthing you the whole night. This moron actively threw a beverage at Artest, so I have no sympathy for him.

UNC loses preseason opener to Santa Clara...

I have no idea why people continue to overrate UNC. Dean Smith ain't walking through the door, folks. Rashad McCants is still an idiot who will take entire games off mentally. Sean May, still injury prone. That said, yeah I know UK waxed a jobber today but I can't see them coming into Freedom Hall with a bunch of freshmen and taking out a veteran U of L team. Yeah I know U of L fucked off today and beat BYU of Hawaii by only 10, but that was in Maui and we all know U of L dicks around in those Hawaiian games. One thing really impressed me with UK today: the backcourt. Sparks and Rondo should be one of the better backcourts in the country.

What a shock! Chris Rix with the interception! I've been figuring this up, the possible BCS games. Wanna know what I've figured? Utah is still fucked. Yes, you heard me, they are fucked up the ass. Consider a few things in regards to the major bowls (Orange, Sugar, Rose, Fiesta): --Orange Bowl is likely going to be Oklahoma vs. USC. Unless one of the two loses, and even then they'll still likely end up somewhere in the BCS. --Rose Bowl will obviously want the Big Ten/Pac 10 matchup with Michigan (I assume?) vs. Cal (at #4 in the BCS with the one loss to USC by 6, how can they be denied?). Sugar Bowl likely will put Auburn vs. somebody from the ACC (Miami, Va Tech, who knows?). That leaves the Fiesta, which will have to take the Big East winner (BC most likely) vs. someone else. Guess what? If Texas beats A & M they will likely remain #5 in the BCS and take that last spot. Thus Utah is likely still fucked. Which is good, since they'll play U of L and I wanna see that one bad.

    history of ECW DVD

I can't believe anyone would have the lame Living Dangerously RVD/Lynn match in a top 5. The ref almost gave Lynn the title in a TIME LIMIT DRAW. That's the single most retarded thing I've ever seen on ECW. ECW had so many good matches it's tough to single a top 5. But I'll try. Bear in mind I haven't seen all the good Eddie/Dean stuff or much of Benoit's work in ECW. RVD vs. Bigelow, TV title. I remember jumping literally out of my chair at this match when RVD did the insane flip into the 5th row. One of my fave matches ever and made me a big RVD fan. Mikey and Tajiri vs. the FBI. The discs talk some about Mikey during his initial lucky jobber period, but he was a shitty wrestler then. He actually got quite good for a while with Tajiri, and this match from the neglected 2000 time period is a classic. Only the Sal E. run in knocks it from *****. Tanaka/Awesome...there were a million of em, but I'll go with Awesome regaining the title on New Year's on TNN. Someone desperately needs to bust out a sit down powerbomb from the top again. Eddie vs. Dean, 2/3 falls. Finish was a copout since both guys were leaving, but otherwise swank. RVD vs. Jerry Lynn from TNN, Sept. 1999. This one is forgotten in the RVD/Lynn canon. The LD match had the dumbass booking I mentioned, HH had too much RVD stalling, but this match was inspired. It had the most heat (ECW Arena), the best in match story (Lynn's ribs hurt by Impact Players but he fights it out), etc. I do think the title should have changed here, but I guess Heyman thought RVD would look bad jobbing to Lynn with broken ribs. ______________________________ Stuff like Raven/Stevie vs. Pitbulls is a fun match, but it's sloppy as hell and I have to wonder why Keith would give it *****. I'd never give a match with so many run ins and so many fucked up spots *****. Also, the Rey cruiser stuff isn't really notably better than his WCW work, so I can't really list that. It isn't really representative of ECW anyway.

    HOLY FUCKIN SHIT

I think Ben Wallace is actually the one to blame most here. If he hadn't been a moron and overreacted to a routine tough foul this whole episode wouldn't have happened. This is like Heat vs. Knicks X 100 though. Gotta love it.

    OaO Oklahoma Football Thread

I don't think I'd put Michigan that high on the all time list...they don't really have all that many nat. titles. They're kinda like the Kansas of football in that regard, heh. Sure in basketball Kansas has all sorts of wins all time, but can you seriously put them up with Kentucky, UCLA, Indiana, UNC, and Duke when they only have 2 titles? I'm hazy on the exact # of titles Michigan has but I recall in 97 when they won it they said it was their first in about 50 years. Dama, look. They don't like giving two Heismans to someone and they don't like giving it to a freshman...thus White and Peterson will kinda cancel each other out. It'll go to Matt Leinart or something.

    history of ECW DVD

There should have been a bit of Tajiri on the discs. He wasn't a particularly huge star in ECW but he was well liked and was quite over. They could have put some stuff with him vs. Super Crazy (the clean shaven, blue trunk wearing Tajiri!), but I still insist on the Mikey/Tajiri vs. FBI match. That was just awesome...I bet 3/4 of the guys in that match had a career night. If I was to rate the match, I'd deduct maybe 1/4 of a star for the Sal E. run in, but that's still ****3/4. It's certainly a better match than Raven/Stevie vs. the Pitbulls (the only ECW match Keith ever gave *****). Quality of work was so much better than that match, which was sloppy as hell really. It's a fun match from a story standpoint, not a work standpoint.

It's kinda disturbing that Jason White would even be considered for a 2nd Heisman. In reality he'll probably split the votes just enough with Adrian the Frosh and neither will win it. I'm sorry, you cannot convince me that the guy who fell flat on his ass against Kansas St. and LSU last year deserves ONE Heisman, much less two. Oh, and I know Tommy Frazier won two national titles at Nebraska but I can't see him being the best college player ever. Perhaps it's my bias against option oriented offenses, I dunno. Seems to me to be considered the best QB you'd have to be able to PASS the ball with some decency, and Nebraska QBs have never done much of that.

    history of ECW DVD

The odd thing is that TNN produced some of ECW's best matches: --I recall the Christmas and New Years Tanaka/Awesome matches where the title changed a couple of times. Those were brilliant matches that smoke anything the WWF or WCW was doing at that time. --RVD vs. Jerry Lynn from the ECW Arena, where Lynn had hurt ribs but kept going. Personally I'd have changed the TV title here and moved RVD up to the world title, but such is life. I consider this the best RVD/Lynn match since it had the least amount of stalling, the best in match storytelling, and the most heated atmosphere. --Mikey and Tajiri vs. The FBI. Insanely great match, but overshadowed in a great year for wrestling (2000)

    history of ECW DVD

Yeah I have had stuff like RVD/Lynn since it originally aired. Also have Pitbulls vs. Raven/Stevie on an ECW factory tape as well as most of these matches. Only thing I hadn't seen was Sabu/Scorpio and I wonder why, since that was a damn good match (I just watched it).

    BCS Week 5 Standings

I read an article today in the Courier-Journal (Louisville's newspaper) saying that the Liberty Bowl might want to keep Memphis at home to play U of L AGAIN should Utah get a BCS game. This is such a mindboggling, awful, pathetic idea on so many levels. First off, the game has already happened. It's a conference game for crying out loud! Bowls are supposed to be for new, intriguing matchups like U of L vs. Boise or Utah. Stuff that would garner lots of interest. Besides, we kinda owe Boise some payback from the 2000 defeat on that shitty blue turf in the Humanitarian Bowl. This is if we can't play Utah, mind you. One overhyped undefeated team is as good as another.

    history of ECW DVD

Well, it stands to reason since RVD was likely blitzed when he wrestled that match. If you look at ECW era RVD stuff he often had a hazy look in his eyes. It's odd that he isn't featured more on the main program though, considering he you know, CARRIED the company from roughly 1998 till it closed. From what I have read they seem to focus more on the 1995-96 period of stuff more than the 98-99 era (which is mainly when I watched ECW). I personally think that in the late 90s ECW had the best in ring product of the 3 main companies, given the Russoization of the WWF and WCW's rapid decline. And no Justin is a good thing. When the guy won the title ECW was still on national TV and had a loyal fanbase. By the time he jobbed to Jerry Lynn TNN had canned them and the fan interest was minimal.
