    They're Actually Doing It

Well, thing is you know they'd love to get Arnold eligible to run (frustrating thing the Constitution). The GOP would salivate over those 55 EVs that CA would bring. But they'd also take Giuliani as well since he might well carry the 31 from NY. I think if Giuliani ran that'd be the inroad for Hillary to run, saying she's the only one who could protect the holy NY 31 EVs from the GOP. I'm hoping for something sane, like McCain vs. whoever.

    Nader attempts to challenge results

Just wondering but why of all places would Nader challenger NH? Was there really all that much in the way of tampering or fraud there? I guess he can't challenge OH since he wasn't on the ballot there...but what about FL? To be honest I'm not all that worried about FL right now. There may well have been some shady doings there this time, but hardly enough to cover 377,000 votes. OH is another matter. I watched Keith Olbermann's show last night for the first time since he was going to report on some curious election numbers. I think to some extent this stuff is conjecture and bullshit: FL counties that are heavily registered Dems going for Bush, the locked doors while counting in Warren, OH, etc. With those it is entirely possible that in those panhandle areas of FL and the GA border that the registration is technically highly Democrat...it's just that they haven't voted that way in years (much like rural KY...heavily Democrat but they don't VOTE that way). Also, there really is no evidence in Warren, OH that they manipulated votes or anything, just that they had some goofy terror warning and locked things down. There ARE some aspects in OH that need to be looked into however. The nearly 3900 votes that Bush got extra in Columbus is a good example. Was this a one precinct fluke, or did it happen in other places across the state? Also, the 93,000 extra votes in Cuyahoga Co. (Cleveland) than actual voters seems curious to me, it'd be nice to have a legit explanation of this. Also, Olbermann mentioned 92,000 "spoiled" ballots, which I assume are akin to the hanging chad ballots of FL in 2000. OH actually has a standard for such ballots I believe, so is there a plan to count these? I am not asking the Democrats to ask for recount after recount like Gore did in 2000. But an accurate final count might be nice.

    MNF: Vikings-Colts/NFL midseason

Anyone want to start taking bets on who the Eagles will have their 4th straight NFC title game tank job against? Will it be the Falcons? A resurgant Seattle? Maybe even a Cinderella Packers?

    MNF: Vikings-Colts/NFL midseason

My god, did anyone look at that Falcons schedule? The Bucs and Saints twice? Oakland? Carolina? Hell, the only reasonable tests they have are the Giants and Seahawks. Falcons should be no worse than 12-4 and the #2 seed in the NFC.

Dave Wannstedt resigns as Dolphins coach

Well you knew this was coming but I can't help but feel sorry for the guy. Wannstedt is no great shakes, but how do you possibly overcome the whole Ricky Williams fiasco, the injury to David Boston, and a nonsensical signing of AJ Feeley?

    Weekend Boxoffice Report Nov 5-7

The Grudge wasn't all that bad, saw it this weekend. It has some scary moments. Let's face it: the creepy sound on the phone is going to be spoofed for years. I know I'll call up friends and make that silly sound. Lot of stuff coming out next week, with Polar Express, Finding Neverland, and After the Sunset all out. I don't care much about Polar from the previews, and I hesitate on After the Sunset due to it being 1. A non Bond Brosnan movie and 2. It's rated PG-13 when it looks like it should be R. Thus, it looks like Depp will get my money.

This Week in College Football 11/2 - 11/6

Ah, U of L up to #12 in the new AP poll. Highest ranking ever. Now if we hadn't have blown it against Miami (grumbles). Given the schedule left (TCU, Houston, Cincy, and Tulane) a 10-1 record and top 10 finish is quite possible. If Auburn wins that game next week I can't help but think they'll play for the national title. Bama isn't good enough this year and they already smashed UT. By the way, ND might well have a shot against USC. They've already given UT a home loss and gave Michigan their only loss.

    NFL Week 9

I'm not exactly sure how you prepare for Jerome Bettis plodding for something like 3.5 yards a carry. That's essentially what the Steelers did, run the ball twice for 3.5 yards a carry, then either run it for another 3 or do a pass. That sorta thing is hard to defend and eats up a ton of clock.

Wisconsin isn't going to get much BCS love people, in fact I dare say that if Michigan wins out the Rose would take them over WI. Yeah I know Michigan lost to ND, but given that ND also beat TN yesterday the Irish really aren't that bad.

Miami losing again tonight is sickening. I suppose I'm bitter because U of L should have taken them, but essentially what that game did was totally expose Miami's weaknesses for everyone else. Ah well, I kinda hope Utah gets screwed out of a major bowl so we can get Louisville vs. Utah in the Liberty Bowl. Let's see the Utes put up 49 on us....oh wait they probably COULD, but we could put it on them too. Besides, who else is U of L gonna play? Anyway I am off to watch the Fog Bowl.

U of L is a schitzo team defensively. At times this year they've been brilliant (UNC, UK, USF). But man some teams like Miami and Memphis have just trashed them. I sorta suspect that U of L doesn't have much in the way of a secondary considering Brock Berlin and friggin DANNY WIMPRINE lit them up.

Carlos Beltran has gone off the deep end...

I'm glad his actual stats this year were brought up, because aside from his playoff series against the Cardinals and being a thorn in the Cubs' side, he wasn't amazing. It seemed like most of the year he was hitting in the .260 range. Given the way he hit at Wrigley I can see why the Cubs would want him. But would he hit that way over 81 home games?

    Jack Nicholson

Here's a fun challenge to determine how good an actor is: How would he fare playing the major male roles in Dracula? I mean the Count, Harker, Renfield, and Van Helsing. I say it since those are a variety of roles that could show an actor's versatility (alluring vampire, sap hero, lunatic, wise professor). Let's face it, Nicholson could maybe do a good Renfield and nowdays might be a passable Van Helsing, but he's suck ass as either Harker (I'm talking younger Jack here) or Drac. Now take for instance Johnny Depp. Depp would be potentially interesting as Drac, he'd make a marvelous Renfield, he could play Harker in his sleep, and in another 10-15 years he would make an intriguing Van Helsing. Thus, by the Dracula Test Depp> Nicholson.

Yeah boy. U of L manages to hold off Memphis's best effort of the year tonight and get the payback. Thus, U of L has now beaten Memphis and S. Florida and the 3rd payback from last year is next week when we'll stomp the shit out of TCU. I'm bitter about that Miami game, particularly when a team U of L crushed 34-0 (UNC) actually beat the Canes. It was funny someone mentioned that UAB/S. FL game from last night. I watched some of that. I remember hearing about UAB QB Darrell Hackney saying "Louisville better be glad they don't play us this year, they don't want none." Then UAB went out and lost to friggin TULANE and now South Florida by 25. Keep in mind U of L beat S. FL 41-9 recently. Trust me Hackney, you don't want none.

Best team in the AFC after Week 8

Regardless of injuries the Steelers just physically manhandled the Pats. Wasn't the Steelers' one loss to the Ravens in the game where Maddox got hurt? I wasn't saying earlier that I thought the Colts were the best team in the league, since right now they aren't. I'm saying that they have the potential to get there and should be on this list ahead of the Chargers or Texans, etc.

    Jack Nicholson

Nicholson isn't really the best ever mainly because he only excells at one type of role: a raving nutjob. I mean think about it, what are his most notable roles? The Shining, as the Joker, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, etc. In later years he's shifted to playing the middle aged/borderline senior eccentrics (As Good As It Gets, Something's Gotta Give, About Schmidt) but it's basically a variation on his basic character. Basically, most of Nicholson's whole act is taken from Richard Widmark in Kiss of Death (maybe exaggerating a bit). Thing is Widmark could play a better selection of roles and despite not ever winning an oscar is to me a better actor than Nicholson. De Niro is great no doubt, but he and Pacino have long since lapsed into caricature. As far as guys who are perennials and seem to always deliver no matter the role, I gotta say Hackman and Duvall. Superman IV aside, when has Hackman ever sucked?

Best team in the AFC after Week 8

I'm surprised the Colts weren't even a choice on this list. I know they are just 4-3 right now but if their defense could simply stop allowing fucking 35 pts. a game they'd cruise to the division title. They should get back on track this week with an ass kicking of the Moss less Vikings. I'd always take Manning over the Texans or Chargers. Best team in the AFC right now is the Steelers. How can the Pats be at this point? The Steelers crushed them and now Ty Law is hurt for 4-6 weeks. What I noticed that the Steelers did was stuff that no one else has done to the Patriots: they BLITZED the shit out of Tom Brady (Why hasn't anyone succeeded in this before? Guy isn't that mobile), they got up early, and they stuffed the run down their throats. Steelers vs. Jets in the AFC title game perhaps? As far as the NFC goes, I don't even know who would play the Eagles in the NFC title game. It's that mediocre of a league. Vikings have the talent but always seem to screw up. Rams and Seahawks are both lame. Falcons can be real good but they can be REAL bad (see 56-10 vs. KC). I might actually have to go with the Giants if Kurt Warner can stay upright.

    CNN Live projections

What does Kerry's concession actually mean in terms of ballots being counted in OH though? Does anyone know? I mean, I guess they have to actually count them (it might take 10 days). The reason that I find this concession curious is that there are likely between 175,000-250,000 votes in OH yet to be counted. I read over at www.dailykos.com that Gore got 85% of such provisional ballots in OH in 2000. Maybe I'm the only one here who thinks this, but Kerry's concession is merely to make him look like a gentleman who admits when he's beat to avoid the backlash Gore got in 2000. It also prevents all sorts of lawyers and such from descending on OH to have their say in ballot counting, thus allowing the OH poll workers to count these provisional votes in peace and quiet. Mind you, I don't think Kerry has hardly any chance in OH even with the provisional ballots, but it'll be interesting to see what the real final tally ends up being.

    SAW/Ray

I saw SAW today and I'm not sure what I think. At times the low budget shows, and I have to admit like others that I laughed my ass off at times during some tense moments. Would you believe my theater cut off the last min. or so, thus I'm not entirely sure what happens after.. The "dead" guy gets up and we find out he is the killer. He shuts the door on Adam and that's when in my theater the movie stopped and went back to the ads. Also, the whole thing about Zapp the orderly being blackmailed due to being poisoned was ludicrous. I mean the guy WORKS IN A HOSPITAL. You're telling me that he would remotely listen to this idiot who poisoned him? Why not just go to a doctor in the hospital and get an antidote? It seems more reasonable that, oh, kidnapping the doctor's wife and daughter and planning to kill them in the faint hope of getting an antidote from a serial killer. Man, wasn't Danny Glover the most inept cop ever in this movie? He fucks up and thinks Elwes is the killer, he fucks up and botches the arrest on the killer and his partner dies, then he fucks up while trying to catch Zapp near the end and gets himself killed. What a fucking idiot.

    NCAA Basketball ESPN/Coaches poll

I haven't followed this stuff insanely close thus far, but I figure I should comment on this top 25. 1. Kansas (8) --Kansas has been #1 so many times and never done shit. No reason to see that trend changing. 2. Wake Forest (12) --I repeat it year in and year out about Wake: They didn't do shit with Tim Duncan, why would they do anything now? 3. North Carolina (6) --They lost in the 2nd round last year and you cannot convince me McCants will have his head on straight all year. 4. Georgia Tech (1) --This one I agree with, but something about these guys screams 2/7 2nd round upset. Maybe it was all the close games in the tourney? 5. Illinois (1) --Sweet 16, maybe Elite 8 at best. That's about all the Illini ever do. 6. Syracuse --Can't really comment on them since I don't know who they have, but I don't think Carmelo is walking through the door. 7. Connecticut --No Okafor, no Gordon...I doubt this is a top 10 team. 8. Oklahoma State (1) --Being from KY makes it impossible for me to EVER give Sutton his due. They might reach another regional final at best. 9. Kentucky --Ok, now we're in my wheelhouse. Yeah I know Tubby signed a bunch of burger boys, but they lost Fitch, Daniels, Hawkins, etc. They may not even win the SEC. 10. Michigan State --Oh god, just when Tom Izzo seems to have gone away quietly too. I kinda think their days of Final 4s are past for the time being though, Sweet 16. 11. Arizona (1) --I'll have to see some semblance of defense from these guys before I buy into them at all. 12. Duke --Surprised to see them this low, dare I say they are underrated? 13. Louisville (1)--Well, we got 1 1st place vote anyhow. With Garcia, Dean, some new guys, and a returning Ellis Myles we should SO be higher than this. I am frankly insulted UK is higher. Trust me, U of L will beat them by about 20 pts. 14. Mississippi State --They'll beat up on a crappy SEC West, but who cares? 15. Texas --Probably a solid tourney team, but isn't Byron Mouton FINALLY gone? 16. Maryland --I actually think they are a bit underrated here. I can't see Wake or GA Tech being THAT much better. 17. Pittsburgh --Pitt will beat up on jobbers and win 28 games, and lose in the Sweet 16 as usual because they have no offense to speak of. 18. Alabama --You would think Bama would be higher after making the Elite 8. Frankly I think it was a fluke. 19. North Carolina State --Seems about right. 20. Wisconsin --Perennial snoozer games, but they'll likely win and make the tourney. 21. Notre Dame --Is Chris Thomas still there? If so, they might be a bit underrated, but it depends on if his mind is right. 22. Florida --Heh, isn't Ky's favorite boy Matt Walsh back? More bitchslapping at the hands of the Wildcats is about all they can expect. 23. Memphis --Memphis might be fairly motivated to beat the CUSA teams that are leaving after this year (U of L, Cincy, Marquette, etc). They can make the tourney. 24. Washington --Dare I say they are underrated? Score like crazy, I just doubt their defense. 25. Stanford --Looks like their days of being dominant in the Pac 10 are pretty much over.

    Ashlee Simpson on SNL

I think Jessica does have a better voice than Ashlee, but from what I've heard I prefer Ashlee's actual music (does that make sense?). Ironically enough, I think it's because Ashlee sounds more real, haha. Her vocal range isn't perfect, she sounds scratchy at times...hell, she might as well be the female Rod Stewart. And yes, I'd bang her.

    Joe Paterno

At some point it comes time for a forced retirement. Basically the AD needs to sit him down and say "Look, either retire with some grace or we're going to have a bad situation where I fire you and the university looks shitty." Penn St. will continue to suck as long as Paterno is still around, the program long having lost its aura. While they aren't up in arms wanting him gone in PA, is there anyone desperately wanting him to stay either?

The OAO HOLY SHIT THE RED SOX WON~! Thread

To me a rivalry has to be something where both teams get their share of wins. Duke/UNC in basketball, that's a rivalry. Ditto U of L/UK. In football it is Michigan/OSU. AS's argument is like saying Texas/OU is a rivalry...how can it be? Oklahoma always beats their asses, so there is really no issue here. Yankees/Red Sox was its own bizarre entity. It wasn't ever really competitive enough to be a rivalry per se, since the Yankees always prevailed. If anything it's just become a legit rivalry the past 2 years, given the wild ALCS games.

    World Series 2004

This is just amazing. The funny thing is that every time it looked like the Sox had done something to perhaps screw up (like leaving the bases loaded or commit 4 errors) for some reason it never hurt them. It's like they had all the breaks for once in history. Come on, in that 9th inning didn't anyone else here think the Cards would load the bases and get a grand slam to win? I'm not really a big Sox fan, in fact if it was any other time I'd much prefer the Cardinals to win. But man, these guys have paid some dues. I guess my rationale is that the Cards will likely pick up a starter in the off season and likely be contending for years to come...the Sox hadn't won in 86 years. I don't care who the MVP of this series was, this was Schilling's postseason of immortality. I don't care what his career stats end up being, he's gotta be in Cooperstown after this.

    World Series 2004

Well, Walker hits the homer and Pujols took Foulke deep. Why exactly did they put this guy in? Anyway, it's over now. Dames actually had a point there though, one that I thought myself. Sox are up now 3-0, but until they actually get that 4th win the Curse is still on. For some reason I can't see the Cardinals losing either of the next two games. They HAVE to have some pride, right?
