Just wondering, is there anyone who doesn't think Louisville wins the Big East when the Cards join next year? For some reason I can't see Wisconsin going undefeated. They just aren't good enough or "kick the shit out of someone" enough to do it. They basically got lucky against Purdue, and I think someone like Minnesota or Iowa will take them out (hell MSU has a chance if they bring their A game). Michigan will likely win a mediocre Big 10. Also, I think Utah will get upset somewhere along the line...I have no idea against who though. Maybe Colorado St.? They can't deny me the Liberty Bowl dream match! Auburn will end up losing somewhere along the line in a highly difficult SEC. Maybe Georgia, or the SEC title game. Boise St. can probably go undefeated and still not get to a real bowl. They can take pleasure in delighting some poor bastard in the Blue Smurf Turf Bowl. Miami is seriously not good enough to go undefeated. One look at their games against FSU or U of L will show you that is a shaky team. Someone like VA or VA Tech will upset them. So yeah, USC and Oklahoma will be the title game. And Jason White will throw 3 INTs.

Paper with 100% record of endorsing Republicans
cabbageboy replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
I find it amusing that someone would say "Look at my analysis of the 1st and 3rd debates, I said neither guy won!" as a defense against being called a Bush fanboy. Considering the general consensus of the debates (Kerry smoked him in the 1st and 3rd, 2nd was basically even), I'd say this stance alone makes someone an even bigger Bush fanboy. -
If Utah does somehow get snubbed by the BCS, just imagine the truly bad ass Liberty Bowl it could create between the Utes and Louisville. Hell, that's a better game than most of the major bowls would be, thus showing how insipid the BCS truly is. The goofy thing about Utah is that they don't have that one game like AT MIAMI on the schedule, so they can squash jobbers in the Mt. West and beat maybe 1 sorta decent major conf. team (TX A and M) and lay claim to a major bowl. In essence U of L was penalized for scheduling Miami....they should have scheduled a home game against an iffy "major" team like NC St. or Kansas St. That said, if somebody like Oregon St. can be in the Fiesta Bowl there's no reason why Utah can't be. I'd actually say Utah could draw more fans and ratings.

Trust me, having seen UK this year I can safely say they are the worst team in the SEC. I'm amazed that they beat IU to be honest, but that's sort of a rivalry game for jobbers (heh, the heat slightly extends from the basketball series). They lost to Ohio, lost to S. Carolina with SC's 4th stringer at QB. I was pleasantly surprised that they only lost to Auburn by 32 this week. I was fearing the game would be historically brutal. We're talking "Tim Couch running the option in his first college start in the Swamp" bad here. As far as Vandy being the worst team in the SEC, well, they waxed UK last year.
-
Just saw Louisville at #12. Unfortunately there really isn't much left on the schedule as far as a big win opportunity now. I figure we'll stay up for the next two games, since Memphis and TCU both beat U of L last year, but after that it's just jobbers like Cincy and Tulane.
-
Is Miss St. really the worst team in the SEC? Personally I think Kentucky is, but we shall see when that epic matchup unfolds. Hell UK lost 20-3 to Florida, only win was against a clueless IU team. Anyway, who didn't see this coming? Quite a bit of the Gator fanbase wanted Zook gone from the get go.

People are overreacting to this. The Sox just did what they are supposed to and won 2 at home. Now, WHY they had the first 2 at home is sickening to me, since the Cards had the best record. I figure the Cardinals will straighten up at home and win at least 2 of the next 3 to send it back to Boston. It would be to the Sox's advantage to put it away early though, they don't need this going 6 or 7....curse and all that.

I dunno, take a look at Elwes's post PB roles. He was the heel in Days of Thunder, a pseudo heel in Hot Shots, didn't do much of note in Glory, and was Robin Hood in Men in Tights. If anything in most of those he was cast somewhat against type (Robin Hood aside). Can't even think of the last hit he was in....I do recall seeing him in Shadow of the Vampire and The Cat's Meow, but he didn't do much of note in either.

At the end of the day it's still friggin Mark Bellhorn. You don't let Mark Bellhorn beat you in an ALCS game. You don't let him beat you in a World Series game. Most importantly, you don't put Julian Tavarez IN a World Series game.
-
Heh, what is this shit with Mark Bellhorn? That at bat was like the summary of the fortune that the Sox have had lately and the crap the Cardinals are doing (Tavarez).
-
I might want to see this eventually. Let's face it: It's nice to see Cary Elwes get some work. I never understood why he never quite became a huge star after Princess Bride.
-
Actually I'm not a Sox fan. Being from Louisville it's kinda complicated...suffice to say I am a Cubs fan first but also like the Cardinals since they used to have the AAA team here (Louisville Redbirds). I'm glad to see the Sox get to the Series though. That said, everyone here has to know deep down that this is all fool's gold and they'll end up losing this series as usual.
-
Seems like to me that whoever has the best record should get home field. It's idiotic to determine such a thing via an exhibition game. I like both teams in the Series (which is rare) and wouldn't mind seeing either win. But deep down I can't shake this feeling that beating the Yankees was fool's gold for the Sox, and they'll just end up losing yet another agonizing 7 game series.
-
I know Anglesault was ranting about the Wrath of George, but based on this series who would you get rid of? There's always goats like Vasquez and Brown, which are obvious. Can't really get rid of A-Rod and I doubt Sheff either. I dare say the biggest goat was Rivera in this series, he's the one who gave up 2 games when the Yankees could have won it before the momentum shifted. And let's face it, you aren't going to win it all when your big stopper is Jon Lieber. Yeah I know he pitched way over his head in this series, but at the end of the day it's still Jon Lieber.
-
Bellhorn has World Series goat written all over him. Sad but true. Has the B last name, has that tragic hero quality going (his homer got them there, but his error will cost them). Or I also think it could be similar to the 75 series, where the Sox didn't really do much horribly wrong. If anything they had by far the most notable moment with Fisk's homer. But they still lost the Series.

SMDN in some ways is still a shameful misuse of talent. I mean come on...Eddie jobbing to Mark Jindrak? That's fucking retarded on so many levels. RVD and Rey losing to Kenzo and Rene? Pathetic. It's like in every feud they have one guy that's legit and that the fans accept, and they're jobbing them all out to a bunch of barely trained bums. Anyone feeling the Booker transition champ run coming?
-
Oh man, you know this thing is going 7. How could it not? And yes, it'll be another gut wrenching, hearbreaking loss for the Sox. They'll probably do some insane act of brilliance to force the Game 7 (a la Fisk in 75)...and of course lose the next game.

Oh, I'll admit that my fondness for the wild card depends on who it is. It boils down to this: Boston was legitimiately the 2nd best team in the AL during the season, so they had a right to be in the playoffs. Houston tanked for 3/4 of the season and put together a run to sneak in the back door. Both the Braves and Dodgers had better records. The Cardinals were 13 games better than the Astros (and don't give me this head to head shit, the Cardinals were resting their starters for half of those Astros wins). Basically I'm suggesting getting rid of the wild card all together, and just have the LCS be the best two teams in each league. In other words take it back to the pre division format and have the LCS based on overall records, top 2 in each league get in. In other words, it still would have been Yankees/Sox in the AL, since they were the two best teams in the AL. In the NL it would have been Cardinals/Braves I think. Anyway, enough of that since it won't happen anyway. I'm just glad I don't have to endure the Astros in a World Series. Cardinals vs. Red Sox: Money in the bank.
-
I had my anti wild card rant ready if the Asssstros won this game tonight, but now I won't have to bother. I was amused to see so many predictions for the Astros here. Game 7 on the road, St. Louis has never lost a series when down 3-2, and the Stros are known to choke in these situations. And now we have a World Series that's fantastic: Boston vs. St. Louis. That's baseball. That's fucking baseball.

Tom Hanks isn't in Top Secret. And no, that isn't obscure at all, most everyone likes that movie. Now a movie that was spoofed in Top Secret...The Conspirators. THAT is obscure. Speaking of Zucker stuff, Airplane was practically a remake of the little known Zero Hour (which was a straight drama) right down to the dialogue. Another rarity.

I saw that goofy shit about Bush going to Crawford and all that, as though there is going to be some Oct. surprise. I really doubt it to be honest. Look, if Bin Laden is miraculously captured or killed a week before the election it's going to be so blatant that I doubt it'll even swing voters to Bush. In fact I bet it might even have an opposite effect, where people get disgusted by such an obvious ploy. Bush is better off not doing any shocking surprises. Doing something like capturing Bin Laden at this point only brings Bin Laden back into the public eye and raises questions as to why we haven't gone after him before. Nobody is really talking about Bin Laden right now, and really that is to Bush's advantage. As far as some of the polls go, I'd say FL and OH are a total dead heat. As far as WI goes, Kerry will win that state. Since the debates have ended I haven't seen anyone much but Strategic Vision (and we know how reliable they are) that has Bush up there. Basically, if it was Gore's last time, it's Kerry this time....albeit easier, since Nader won't get as much.

Let me add some to my previous post. If the Cubs were in the Astros place I would certainly be rooting for them, but deep down I'd realize it's still wrong to even get a shot at someone you finished 13 games behind. I guess my point is that I'd like to see them scrap this current bullshit and go back to something similar to pre 1995 playoffs. Except to prevent something like the 1993 fiasco where the Giants won 103 games and didn't get in, I'd have them take the top 2 teams of each league and have the NLCS and ALCS. So in other words you'd have had the Yankees and Red Sox still in the AL (appropo since they are the two best in the AL) and in the NL it would have been St. Louis vs. Atlanta. I think this is probably the best way to go about it. It elminates undeserving teams who fuck around for most of the regular season thinking they'll still get in the playoffs (what is this, the NBA?), and doesn't penalize someone for having the misfortune of being the 2nd best team in the league when the best team is in their own division. The Astros during the regular season were NOT the 2nd best team in the NL, and I don't care what kind of late season run they made.
-
I'm actually much more interested in the NLCS game 7 than I was in tonight's ALCS. To me, either the Yanks or Sox in the World Series is quite acceptable. However, in this case the Astros in no way are an acceptable team to make the World Series. It's not just that I hate them (hey, I'm a Cubs fan), but they finished 13 GAMES behind the Cardinals. You can at least say the Yankees and Sox were the two best teams in the AL, but the Astros? They finished 13 games out in their division...yet could get to the World Series??? It's disgusting, and if it happens it's the best argument I can think of for scrapping the current playoff format.
-
Yeah, I know the NLCS is going 7 as well but that series is more of a regular baseball series. It's more just two decent teams holding serve and winning games at their house. Incidentally, I hope to God that the Cardinals win that tomorrow. Seeing Wild Card vs. Wild Card in the World Series would make me puke. The Astros finished 13 games behind the Cardinals this year, they have absolutely no business being in the WS over them. Cardinals have actually always won a series they trailed 3-2 in, and we know the Astros record at closing out a series. Besides, Cardinals vs. Red Sox...how much cooler and old school does it get than that?
-
I'm really happy to see the Red Sox do it tonight. I know that I didn't think they'd win tonight for whatever reason, but it's obvious by a 10-3 ballgame that the Yankees were finished after Schilling schooled them last night. How many people seriously thought they could do this after game 3 when they got killed 19-8? It's stunning, the amount of blind faith it would take to still believe in your team when they're down 0-3. You know what's tragic, sad, and amusing all at once? The Sox will be so insanely spent from this series that there's no way in hell they'll win the World Series. And thus, the curse will continue in the cruelest way possible.
