I'd say the curse of the White Sox is much better known than the goat crap for the Cubs. I mean, they THREW THE WORLD SERIES. If ever anyone deserved to be cursed it would be a team that did that. Interesting that the Red Sox and White Sox were both cursed around 1919.

Good, I hope the Padres can cool off the Giants a bit. Cubs could use the help, though not so much help that the Padres end up sneaking in as the WC.

This Week in College Football 9/17 - 9/18

MSU certainly has a shot at beating ND, but really it all depends on which one of these schitzos show up. U of L's game with Tulane was cancelled due to the hurricane, so that squash will happen another day. It's kinda funny around my area (Louisville) that a rivalry game between two local teams like UK and IU isn't even being shown until an 11:30 delay. Dare I say Indiana looks like they'll come out of the weekend 3-0 and the surprise team in the Big 10? What crack induced world do we live in?

I won't be sad for Viscera to go but I was kinda excited about Gangrel being back. Trade the man to Raw and finally give Edge and Gangrel the blowoff it deserves...which would be a 5 minute Edge squash.

It's interesting to see the Giants are now just 3 behind the Dodgers. Don't hear a whole lot about that race, at least in comparison to Yankees/Sox. One thing about the Cubs and their chances I keep hearing is that "So and so will have to play the Cardinals, so don't worry." This is goofy though since the Cards have totally run away with the division and are coasting. Meanwhile they've run into some desperate teams vying for playoff spots (Padres, Dodgers, Astros) and those teams are beating them.

Here's one thing in particular about I, Max that I don't care for. No matter who the guest is on the show Max NEVER wins, even when he actually has the stronger segment. Like today, he certainly got the better of Jack Del Rio yet Bill Wolff gave the point to the World. Is there an unwritten agreement that the guest HAS to get the point in order to get anyone to come on the show?

Star Wars Trilogy DVD First Look

The more Lucas spits on the legacy of his original classic trilogy by changing shit around, the more I'm glad I have the really old VHS tapes of the REAL movies.

    OAO Smackdown Thread: 9/16/04

This was one of the most bizarre wrestling shows I've ever seen. It wasn't just me either, since I called my friend Ian during the Gangrel/Viscera return and he was also cracking up to no end. Right after I hung up the phone rang again and it was my friend Chris and he was like "Are you watching this shit??? Gangrel and Viscera??" Then later when Heidenreich was trying to molest Cole Chris calls back about how disturbing that whole thing was. Then Ian called back asking "What the hell is going on here? There's no announcing. Did someone kidnap Michael Cole?" After that I called my brother and joked about it. It's rare for SMDN to inspire this sort of back and forth. Raw sometimes does, but I usually NEVER talk to anyone during SMDN. It's usually not that interesting. I think whoever booked this show was on crack.

    Electoral Vote Predictor 2004.

Well, this website is officially into fantasy land in my opinion. I could accept Bush with a small lead in FL or WI...but when they start having him winning NJ it's becoming insane. He may win Wisconsin, he may not (he barely lost the state in 2000). But NJ? He lost that state by 16% in 2000. Is this some sort of backlash against Kerry due to the queer gov. resigning? Bear in mind this site has Bush up 12% in Ohio, when any reputable poll has it either tied or 3 points in either direction. Incidentally, it's looking like Kerry is going to have to take both PA and OH at this point to win. It's a given he'll be screwed in FL, so it's PA and OH or bust.

The thing about the Sports Reporters is that Saunders now has no ability to reign in the excesses of his guys. Schaap reigned this stuff in a bit and gave the show a vestige of quality. Saunders has also turned the show into a constant race baiting program (Wilbon does race baiting, but you get the feeling he's only half serious...Saunders is dead serious). It's also a little bizarre to hear a black Canadian rail against racism...I mean how much racism is there in Canada? Maybe a little but hardly anything compared to the U.S.

Another John Kruk is a moron thread

I think Santana will win it since I'm sure Pedro will get a few votes and split just enough with Schilling to ensure he doesn't win the Cy Young. I still watch Baseball Tonight and like it, but that's mainly because I mostly pay attention to the highlights and ignore the hosts.

Well, on I, Max I too would like to hear Michael Holly's responses, but it just cracks me up that Kellerman pauses him and Holly is always making some hilariously silly face. I also didn't like the Bayless/Smith stuff on PTI, but the show seems to be back to normal. Let's be honest about something though. The old school Sports Reporters with Dick Schaap bitchslaps all of these shows put together.

    Jamie Noble released from WWE

I'm puzzled to see Noble get released since he was seemingly in the midst of this Chavo/Kidman/London angle. There's certainly a lot more dead weight on that roster than him. It is ironic that his former untalented girlfriend Nidia still has a job, but I guess they don't want to release the Tough Enough people. I'm torn on this Gangrel/Viscera thing. I mean, I'm kinda glad that Gangrel is being brought back, but Viscera? He's fucking horrible. My friend Ian will be happy though if they trade Gangrel to Raw eventually. Finally a resolution to Edge and Gangrel!!!!!

I have a bad feeling that the Cardinals won't make it from the national league. They SHOULD, but with the lame way the playoffs operate anymore having the best team doesn't seem to mean a whole lot. Watch it be the Dodgers or something lame like that.

    Upcoming DVD releases

This is odd. So Jennifer Jason Leigh had sex with Rat in the original version? In the finished film she doesn't at all. I do remember the scene with her and Damone in the pool shack, where he shoots the load in about 10 seconds. Maybe that is what was deleted?

    Taboo Tuesday

I think I'm one of the few who doesn't think the Diva contest is rigged. See, with Carmella the whole point is that she HAS to stay for there to really be any significance to the contest. The fans voting might realize that it is intended for Carmella to stay around to be the heel, thus they keep voting for her. Makes sense...sorta. As far as this PPV goes, I have no idea. It all depends on the list of contenders. I personally think that Orton will win this contest, simply because he is the guy feuding with HHH at the moment and thus enough markish fans will be brainwashed to simply vote for the man intended. Much like the Diva contest.

I usually watch all 3 shows these days. PTI is still the best of the shows when Kornheiser and Wilbon are on...when they covered the Olympics or were on vacation the show was less than inspired. I, Max is probably the least of the shows in quality (hell after the other two shows I'm kinda tired of the same topics..it gets stale) but you gotta laugh at Max pausing Michael Holly all the time. Cracks me up.

    Unforgiven this Sunday

I wonder if they are trying something similar to the Rock's act in late 98...when he did a de facto face turn, but never formally turned face (we assumed it), then later he just does a reaffirmation of heel beliefs and joins the Corporation. Problem is that the Rock was never thrown out of his heel group, he just sorta grew apart from them. But Orton? He acts like a pussy. Benoit would come out and face Evolution like a man, like "Maybe you'll kick my ass, maybe you won't...bring it, mofo." Orton just runs for his life, and fans don't respect that. It taps into a guilty feeling you get when you run from guys instead of fighting it out. As in "Yeah, I did the smart thing and didn't get my ass kicked. But damn, I wish I had just stood my ground, regardless of the ass kicking."

    Unforgiven this Sunday

Thoughts on the PPV: I don't know what to make of Orton right now. I am assuming the grand plan is to have him chase HHH for ages, going through all the guys in Evolution (which means just Flair and Batista unless someone turns heel). There are a few problems with Orton's act right now. 1. He still isn't a very good wrestler unless someone carries him. 2. His alleged face turn has been a fiasco. Right now there is really no reason to cheer this man...he is still basically a heel who got kicked out of a group. It'd be like cheering for Farooq when he got kicked out of the Nation. Orton needed a more proactive face turn. There's a world of difference between cheering a cocky heel who constantly wins and a face who we aren't sure is even a face. WWE needs to ask themselves: What IS Orton right now? They seem to assume people will love the guy because HHH and Co. turned on him, but honestly he now comes off like a little bitch. Every face since time began takes a major heel beatdown, yet Orton seems to just run for his life at the first sign of trouble. Fans as a whole do not like this in a face. Fans WANT the face to get wronged and beat down by the heels, then seek revenge. Running away like a coward and not taking the beatdown like a man? Bah. Sure, it's smart and realistic to run from 4 guys but that's not what wrestling is based on.

Has the tag division ever seemed this lost before?

I'd say the last NAO run was the worst by far. At least they did some amusing dickhead heel stuff in the first reign. But the last run was like watching two guys who weren't over anymore desperately hanging on for dear life and it was pathetic. Tonight was baffling, the tag match I mean. Why keep the belts on La Rez at this point? We all knew HHH was getting his belt back so why not give the crowd a LITTLE bit to be happy about and put the titles on Rhino and Tajiri?

To be honest the focus here is Chris Rix sucking and FSU missing another critical FG against Miami.

This Week in College Football 9/9 - 9/11

I remember seeing Chris Rix here in Louisville when FSU lost that wild rainy OT game. Keep in mind he threw an INT in the OT in that game. I thought at the time that Rix was REALLY horrible, but thought it could have been the rain After tonight, I know...it was not the rain. What the hell was Herbstreit thinking by picking FSU in this game because he thought Rix would be awesome and then go on to WIN THE HEISMAN???? Is he out of his fucking mind? Brock Berlin is mediocre but he isn't an outright fiasco. Rix will be lucky to escape alive after this one.

    Electoral Vote Predictor 2004.

Look, I did FIND Gore's name on the lame butterfly ballot, but I had to look twice to make sure. It wasn't properly lined up. If the arrows were actually directly to the choice then it would be fine, but it was broken over two pages and the lines went in between names. It certainly created confusion. Point is this: a ballot should be as simple to read as a school test with clearly marked choices. On the latest poll there Kerry was behind by 3% in Ohio. I don't know if he'll win the state, but it's closer than last week. And I still don't buy the poll that has Bush ahead 1% in PA when there was another just days ago with Kerry ahead 3% (which mirrors the 2000 election results). As far as Iowa and Wisconsin go, the leads are tenuous for Kerry but since Gore won both and whatever support Nader had won't be as great this time, Kerry likely will take those. That's a key I think, Nader. In 2000 he was polling at 5% but took 2.7%. This time he's not as much of a factor and Kerry will benefit from it. Heh, it's funny...everyone on here insists OH and FL are the key states. I think that the keys are PA and NH. This might not mean anything but I averaged out the % on that website as it stands now. Bush had roughly 48%, Kerry 43%.

The Cubs are pretty much screwed at this point. Incidentally, remember those experts who said the Cubs had the easiest schedule remaining? I remember thinking "Let's see, the Astros...Cubs usually have trouble with them...Marlins...they'll be tough...Braves, ouch." A lot of those series that looked like cake a month ago look a lot different now.
