    Back From The Dead...

Heh, Evil Dead has been serious? I guess the first movie is kinda meant to be serious, but I laugh my ass off at it. It seems to work equally well either way, which is a rarity.

    Moneyball

I'm not sure comparing the A's to the Astros is a good comparison. The Astros were in the playoffs for the most part because some NL Central jobber had to make it. I never took them seriously as any sort of real contender, and wasn't surprised when the Braves or whoever would wax them. The A's are a different story. They have been on the brink of winning several series in recent years, but for whatever reason can't get it done. Sometimes they seem to just choke (I mean how the hell did they lose to the Twins after being up 2-0?). The play that seems to define the modern A's is Jeter making the insane flip to the plate to get Jeremy Giambi out. In essence, the Yankees were able to do little things to win, whereas the A's didn't (in this case, Giambi didn't slide).

    Back From The Dead...

I just wonder about the tone here. The Evil Dead movies don't seem anything like either the campy slash em ups of the Friday series, or the more serious minded (at least in better installments) Nightmare series. What can they do here? Have Freddy invade Ash's dreams and make him think his other hand is trying to kill him? Actually that might be cool.

    Back From The Dead...

What a great poster that is. I'd actually believe that was the real poster. Why not have Ash involved? People have likely at least heard of Evil Dead before, and while the name Ash might not get instant recognition I think people would buy into Bruce Campbell without much trouble.

    Moneyball

Team chemistry has a lot to do with baseball. It's a little tougher to explain than in other sports, but it is needed. An infield has to know where everyone is, be able to turn 2 skillfully. Outfielders have to know where the guy next to them likes to play, where the cutoff man is, etc. I've been on little league teams that did those things well, and I've been on teams that didn't do those things well. When you do it right and everyone gets along, you have chemistry. Watch the Cardinals and then watch the Cubs, and you'll have an idea of what I'm talking about. At any rate, I don't especially like either the slugging type ball or the small ball. In theory you need both to succeed: Fast guys at the top to get on and steal, the big guys drive them in, etc.

Lawrence Phillips pawns Big 8 Championship ring

If I recall Cliff Hawkins (UK basketball player) tried to auction off his SEC title ring on ebay earlier this year. You might think that Phillips would have demanded more for the ring.

    Moneyball

Yeah, most of the negative stuff I've heard is from ESPN announcers and all that. I do agree that the Angels and Marlins were both 1 hit wonders, and that a Moneyball team like the A's was better (at least the A's won their division). But then this isn't the thread to go on an anti wildcard rant.

    What to do with Edge.

Edge hasn't ever really worked especially well as a regular face type character, outside of the interest surrounding his initial debut (my friend Ian STILL wants a resolution to Edge and Gangrel, heh). Once he became a wiseass heel w/Christian it was impossible to really go back to the brooding face character. He's obviously turning heel, but his own faction? It'd just be 2nd rate compared to Evolution.

    Moneyball

I'm not 100% sure about Moneyball but from what I've heard it doesn't seem to be well rounded baseball. Most of it involves getting a group of guys who can just jack it out of the park, but not doing little things to win. People rely too much on stats. Yeah, the Red Sox can hit a ton, but they don't field very well, don't run bases all that well, etc. Ditto the Cubs. The Cubs miss the cutoff man, run bases for shit, don't turn 2 when needed, and generally lack baseball know how (though I doubt the Cubs would really fall into the Moneyball scheme payroll wise). The concept of winning with a smaller payroll is a good one, and the Marlins showed it could be done last year. Thing is, the Marlins won with pitching, timely hitting, speed, and being lucky as hell. In other words, all things that Moneyball doesn't account for.

The Undertaker vs John Bradhaw Layfield

The worst WWF title match I can recall was on a Raw taping from 1995. I dunno if this match was actually ON Raw or whether it was the non televised main event. Anyway it was Diesel/Sid in a cage. They spent 20 mins putting the cage up, and then Nash and Sid dicked around for 5 mins or so before Nash kicks him in the face and pinned him. We were all PISSED!

ESPN's Top 100 Moments of past 25 years

Ugh, I have the horrible feeling that Laettner is going to be top 5 on the list. The sad thing is that Sean Woods made a shot more incredible than Laettner's right before it, but due to the Laettner shot few outside of Kentucky remember it.

    *Smackdown Spoilers* for Aug. 19

Well, he DID quit. Heh. Why on earth would RVD feud with Kenzo Suzuki? I mean, I don't guess there's really much else for him to do at the moment (what with Booker/Cena best of 5 going, Angle and Eddie, JBL/UT), but still it's Kenzo Suzuki. And by the way, I haven't seen it mentioned on here very much, but honestly, who in the year 2004 uses a fucking clawhold?

Scott Steiner officially fired from WWE

Anyway, Steiner. It amazes me that people say they dropped the ball with the guy....I mean they put him in a title feud right off the bat and he was so pathetic in the ring that the entire crowd turned on him. Personally I would have just jettisoned the guy after he jobbed to HHH. That said, his match with test at last June's PPV led to one of the greatest, funniest things ever. Remember when Test was outside the ring and Steiner did a running jump to attack him...and then slipped and fell right on his face! That was just hysterical, I bet I rewound the tape of it a dozen times that night.

    Back From The Dead...

Here's a question: Would AMC show this Freddy/Jason/Ash movie? They show Army of Darkness sometimes, heh. I suppose you could kinda consider this to be Evil Dead 4 if it happens. It's funny but on Bruce Campbell's website he has the question on there "Will there be an Evil Dead 4?" as an actual link....the answer "NO."

Kyle Farnsworth is more of a liability than Sosa.

Well, the Cubs haven't exactly owned the Brewers this year. It seems like they've done their fair share of jobbing to the dregs of the league (Brewers, Pirates, etc). Back to Farnsworth. I think my image of him as a total bum stems from the idea of a middle reliever/set up man. See, nobody notices a relief pitcher when he goes out and gets a 1-2-3 inning (unless you're the closer, but you get the save then). I can't remember the times where Farns went out and retired the side....I remember the massive fuckups. Such is life when you're a relief pitcher.

    Weekend Boxoffice Report Aug 13-15

Exorcist might have made big money but that was 1973. There have been some other sequels since and nobody has given a shit. Am I the only one who thinks Without a Paddle will do pretty well? Fear the drawing power of Scott Evil and Shaggy!

    Back From The Dead...

I read this rumor about a year ago when F vs. J came out. I thought it was insane then, but now I think it would make big money. Obviously Bruce Campbell wouldn't die in the film....that's kinda the whole point.
  18. I wholeheartedly agree. This reign is the appetizer for the main course for Orton. As in he gets it all, then BAM, it's all taken away via massive interference and an Edge heel turn (that was one HELL of a great idea, Edge joining Evolution). I figure to make HHH/Orton work at WM Orton has to be chasing a heel HHH for the title, which doesn't make sense. Thus, HHH has to win it fairly soon to strike while the iron is hot, and then Orton goes through Batista, Flair (adds to the Legend Killer schtick), and of course the now heel Edge. Thus, we'll be roughly at the Rumble when all that happens, and Orton wins it. Then, he finally gets Hunter at WM. I doubted this feud before tonight, but now I think this will draw big money. Great show tonight.

Kyle Farnsworth is more of a liability than Sosa.

Oh this is hilarious. I've actually thought about that same scenario, Cubs/Cards in the NLCS. Game 7. And Farnsworth is warming up to face a lineup of Pujols, Walker, Edmonds, Rolen. I think I would practically vomit. Maybe Farnsworth went 14 appearances without giving up a run...so what? Who did he do all that against? Was it the Cardinals? The Dodgers? The Braves? Or did he hold down the Pirates and the Brewers? Face it, the guy is horrible. Why defend him?

Kyle Farnsworth is more of a liability than Sosa.

"Matt Herges closed games for the Giants. Robertson and Jimenez pitched poorly for the Indians, who would be in first if not for their bullpen. Weber pitches for the Angels. Hernandez pitches for the Phillies." The Giants usually have Rob Nen though, don't they? And the Angels have an otherwise solid bullpen I would assume. The Phillies are hopeless and out of it, so no one cares about Hernandez. As far as the Indians goes, even if they somehow make the playoffs they're a textbook 1st round sweep for someone. The Cubs however might actually DO SOMETHING if not for dipshits like Farnsworth. They can overcome the bad fielding and base running, but it's hard to overcome a guy who can't hold a 4 run lead.

Kyle Farnsworth is more of a liability than Sosa.

Those other 10 jobbers listed above might be crappy, but how many are really on contending teams? As in do they really blow games that anyone cares about? I mean, Farnsworth fucks up important games against contending teams. I saw him singlehandedly cost them two important games against the Cardinals this year, possibly the two most critical losses the Cubs have had. The first was when they could have tied for 1st but blew it, and it started the descent into hell. The 2nd was when he blew it and they fell 10 behind the Cards. Yesterday might have been the fiasco that leads to them blowing the Wildcard. Nobody, and I mean nobody has had higher profile fuckups than Farnsworth this year. People pay too much attention to stats without watching actual games. If you look at the stats there's no reason why the Cubs should be 13 out. But watch them sometime, see how often they have someone thrown out at 3rd due to bad baserunning. See how they don't turn 2 at a critical moment, whereas the Cardinals always do. Anyway, to conclude the Farnsworth thing...does it seem like on ESPN and other places that they don't fully trash this guy? It's like no one but Cubs fans really notice the suck here.

    Does RVD deserve a chance....

Let's see, someone saying RVD has no talent or ability yet has a Bradshaw pic on his posts. Yeah, that makes sense. Of course RVD deserves to main event on SMDN, the show is horrible. If you watched last night you'd realize RVD was one of the few faces who actually got a great reaction from the crowd. How could he be as over as he once was? He's getting zero push right now. At least RVD busts some stuff out...as in his usual formula match at least isn't BORING. He can at least hit the corkscrew legdrop, rolling thunder, 5 star, etc. You know, stuff that is fun to look at, exciting for the crowd. Christ, that PPV last night was like watching WCW under Bill Watts: no highspots, no excitement, just guys working the leg for 10 minutes. Sure, it might be sound technically, but it's boring as all fuck. I kinda enjoyed the opener simply because Rey, Kidman, and London busted some stuff out. Look, this topic is asinine. When you have Bradshaw out there main eventing and drawing the wave during his match, it's kinda hard to say RVD can't main event.

    The OAO SummerSlam 2004 Thread

This was a bizarre, ugly show on a lot of levels. I don't even know what I thought of it. Much like with Justin Credible in ECW, you knew Orton was getting the title and you might as well sit back and not give a shit. I know he'll feud with HHH now....and you can count the number of people who will care on 1 hand. I think months of making the face sides of both rosters look like bums is coming back to haunt them. The whole face side on Raw has been made into Evolution's bitches for a long while, and the crowd is cheering the heels (much like WCW crowds with the NWO). The truly bizarre aspect tonight is that the Canadian crowd seemingly turned on the Canadians, which blew my mind. Edge has been acting heelish lately but I didn't think in a million years he'd get booed in his hometown. Jericho avoided this mainly because the crowd booed Edge instead of him. Benoit got no reaction at all tonight, who seemed to cheer Orton more mainly because they knew he was winning. I think at this point with Bradshaw no one even wants to give the guy a chance. Nobody gives a shit about him. His match with UT wasn't really even that bad (phantom punch aside), but the crowd was determined not to give a shit. I wasn't shocked to see Eugene trashed, his phony retard gimmick has run its course. He didn't belong that high on a PPV card anyway. Time for the inevitable heel turn, Dinsmore. Know who got one of the best reactions all night? RVD...on HEAT!

Kyle Farnsworth is more of a liability than Sosa.

It's times like this when I miss Harry Caray. Harry wouldn't sugar coat this shit. He'd flat out say Farnsworth sucks ass and you know what? A year later Farns would be GONE. After all, what would they do, ban Harry? Remember how Harry used to trash Brian McRae until they dumped him? I don't understand how a guy with a 98 mph fastball could be this hopeless. I suppose he has no control, but you'd think that for a relief man the heat alone could get him by for an inning or so.

Kyle Farnsworth is more of a liability than Sosa.

My brother and I have a running joke about Farnsworth. I thought he was shitty last year (bear in mind that was his GOOD year), but this year he has taken being a horrible set up man/reliever to new heights. The nadir of this is his embarrassments against the Cardinals this year. I remember that game where the Cubs were up 9-5 and they put Farnsworth in....and of course he fucked up, loaded the bases, and threw a wild pitch that scored the winning run (yeah it was scored a passed ball but when the catcher misses one due to the shock of a pitch being way too high, that's on the pitcher). I also remember another Cards/Cubs game where the Cubs were ahead the ENTIRE game, and then they put in Farnsworth....only to have Pujols and Taguchi (fucking SO TAGUCHI????) take him yard. Pujols is one thing, but So Taguchi?? Then this crap today, giving up the lead against the Dodgers. Seriously, it is time to stop this man before he sucks again. Release his ass, release his ass, release his ass!
