When I first saw the poster at the theater I thought this looked awful too, but then saw the preview. It has a weird "Dude, Where's My Car?" meets "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" look to it. Besides, to those who have frequented White Castle you know there is SOOOO much material here. From the whole 24 hour a day atmosphere (which lends itself well to stoner humor) to the fart burgers, to the way they give you your drinks in a paper sack instead of a drink holder.....it all has money written on it. I dunno what kind of money this will make, but it'll be a surefire cult favorite on video.

Yeah this PPV doesn't really scream out "title change" type PPV. Not sure why really, maybe it's the lack of decent hype for it. There's really no urgent need to put the title on HHH again. Jericho would be a nice option but in some ways isn't feasible. He just jobbed to Orton in an IC title match, so how is he going to get a world title shot?

Here's the criticism some are getting at here, and I think it is valid. First off, the original movie was about nicely split in terms of the Peter Parker stuff and the Spidey stuff. I expect a lot of origin in the first film, but in the 2nd movie I expect it to be more balls to the walls.

Ok I saw the movie and I don't think I was as wowed by it as a lot of people. I think almost too much attention was payed to Peter Parker's love life and his problems, and thus the movie lacked action. I seem to be the only one who liked the Green Goblin more than Doc Ock in this one. Norman Osborn was just a more psychotic character to me, and was treated as a main character at least. Ock is sorta an afterthought here, his whole fusion experiment and Spidey stopping it should be the main plotline with the MJ and Harry stuff thrown in for good measure. Instead it's the exact opposite. It's like a comic movie written by a chick. I'd have to say X2 is better as far as the Marvel sequels go. It also develops things a bit more, but make no mistake the main plot is still Stryker trying to kill every mutant on the planet and the X Men stopping him.

Am I the only one who finds Airplane doesn't hold up as well with time? That one guy Stephen Stucker just kills every scene he is in. I'd say both Top Secret and Naked Gun are easily funnier. While I'd say Naked Gun is probably my favorite, Top Secret is one of the most underrated comedies of the 80s.

I saw the preview for this before Dodgeball and it was shockingly the best of the trailers I saw. It looks somewhat like a bizarre cross of Dude, Where's My Car? and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, if such a thing is possible.

I haven't seen 9/11 but actually did go see both Dodgeball and White Chicks while down in Myrtle Beach. I thought White Chicks was actually funnier.

Time Bandits was one of the top 15 grossing movies of 1981 I think, so it's not all that unknown. I saw it a few years ago and didn't like it all that much.

I think Eugene will have to win next week, since the storyline at the moment seems to be "HHH goes through a bunch of stuff and can't quite get another title shot." It's similar to Jarrett in the NWA, his 6 month odyssey to get the belt back.

Nah, The Hives are a bit better than The Vines. I absolutely hated that one Vines song from their last album, though Ride was kinda growing on me. I won't miss em.

Oh, RVD is hilariously conceited in most interviews. I often wonder how much he is working the public and how much he really believes. He used to have some fabulous net chat sessions on his website archives where he would use a heel schtick and trash moron fans.

I think I'm the only one here who isn't that into spaghetti westerns. I just have never cared for the closeups of the eyes and gunfights that last 10 friggin minutes. It's just not realistic to me, and the pace is just soooo slow. Besides, dubbing in a western? Bleh. As far as modern stuff goes, I'll take Unforgiven, Tombstone, and Open Range. Open Range was damn near a **** movie aside from the tedious last 10 mins. with Costner and Bening that drag it down maybe 1/2 a star. Old school stuff? Gotta go with anything Wayne did from roughly Red River through Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. While he won the oscar for True Grit I don't really think it's one of his best movies. Randolph Scott also had some cool movies, Ride the High Country being his best movie (though more due to Joel McCrea than him). Also check out stuff like Coroner Creek, and anything he did for Budd Boetticher aside from the wretched Decision at Sundown.

The 70s disaster movies were pretty cool (Airport, Poseidon Adventure, Towering Inferno). I'd have to say Airport is probably the best of those. Anyway, Day After Tomorrow looks like it will suck from the previews. Never a good sign when the closest thing to a draw the movie has is Dennis Quaid, and I'm not going to RUSH to the theater to see him. Poor guy is likely to have 2 mega turds this year, this movie and the Alamo.

Oh god. Not the Austin/Bradshaw vs. the NWO contests. RVD and Rey could face the Duds from here till doomsday and it wouldn't approach that level of suck. Hell it's at least usually a *** matchup. I for one am just waiting for RVD to turn on Rey and join up with Heyman and the Dudleys.

I can't believe anyone has voted for the remake. This isn't even an issue.

Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban
cabbageboy replied to Kahran Ramsus's topic in Television & Film
Not popular in the US? The first movie was #1 at the box office in 2001, barely edging the first LOTR. The 2nd HP movie was #4 at the box office in 2002 behind Spidey, Two Towers, and Episode 2. I'll probably go see it when I go down to FL in a couple of weeks. -
Actually, RVD's ECW promos were unique in that I had no problem taking him seriously but yet they were quite funny. I'll even admit that RVD isn't that great outside of a hardcore wrestling environment. When he first got to the WWF he was doing his same ECW style match, just condensed a bit for time reasons (which was a good thing). Of course RVD hasn't had a really good match in a long time....how can he? He's either been tagging with Kane, feuding with Kane, or generally being depushed. The one opportunity he's had in the past year was the ladder match with Christian and it was a very good match.

Okay, I gotta defend my local boys. Tantric is hardly the worst band on earth, they aren't all that amazing but they do have one song that is excellent in my view: Mourning. Someone else said Korn earlier and I certainly echo those sentiments that they should be on this list. I mean, Korn is one of the few bands that just has NOTHING going for them. Most of the bands listed here are perhaps dull or tedious, but they for the most part have some decenct aspects (even GNR, who I voted for at times aren't entirely awful....the band itself isn't wretched it's mainly Axl). But Korn? Horrible singer? Check. Incompetent, out of tune playing? Check. Bad songwriting? Check. And yes, the worst bassist in the world. The only reason I might not vote for Korn is because I find them so sublimely bad that they become funny.

I'm the only one here who thinks RVD will eventually get the title, mainly because they will probably put it in his new contract (if he indeed signs a new deal). I doubt he'll get a lengthy rein but for god's sake they were going to put the title on Chyna at one point to get her to resign. It's not like SMDN has all these guys more qualified to be world champ. They've been pushing FUCKING BRADSHAW lately. There are a few ideas I have that would make for a solid RVD title run: 1. He has to turn heel. The face side on SMDN is loaded but they have no heels to speak of. 2. After said heel turn, he needs a manager and maybe a flunky to play off of. Teddy Long or Heyman would be fine if they hate Bill Alfonso. 3. Once he wins the title have him say it's in his contract that he can do whatever he wants in a match (echoes of Raven's Rules). This makes him more of a dick, and also gives him a chance to have violent hardcore matches, which are his forte. Eventually Van Dam would probably be turned face again much like in ECW, but it'd make for a nice run while it lasted.
-
Actually no. RVD has never played a heel in WWE, not even during the Invasion. If you recall when he was first signed the WWF still had ideas about a WCW show, and thus would need top faces for it. RVD would likely have been one. Thus, the announcers played up a few guys like Kidman and RVD as being acceptable to cheer. At the very least they never told him to go out and do outright heel behavior. Believe me, I've seen his ECW work from 1996-98 or so, and he was pretty much an asshole heel. Even when he was the top face in ECW he still pretty much acted like a heel and had a heel manager, Sabu to run in for him, and cut cocky promos on his opponent. All RVD would need is a manager to play off of (Heyman, Teddy Long, whoever) and he would be great as a heel.

I dunno, Flair has done plenty of quality stuff since 1993. I mean hell in 93 he had a great match with Vader at Starrcade, in 94 he was kinda embarrassed by Hogan but the matches were some of Hogan's best. In 95/96 he revived his feud with Macho and had some more quality matches. Admittedly the late 90s weren't all that kind to Flair as he was hurt or on suspension from WCW (or jobbing to Bischoff at Starrcade).

I don't really see how doing a bunch of stunts qualifies you to be the star of your own action movie. Maybe it could qualify someone to be a stuntman or something....but is there any attempt to make these people ACT on the show? Even in a silly actioner you gotta memorize lines and try not to run into the sets.

I hardly think Kane winning mattered in the ratings since there were 19 other guys involved. I think the Rock's appearance as well as the battle royal determining the #1 contender spiked the ratings.

Keep the Taker strong for WHAT exactly? The Deadman was never a real serious title threat (look it up, the majority of his run from 1992-97 as the Deadman he got very little in the way of a main event push), but more of a freak show that existed in the upper midcard. Hell even when he was fighting people like the Berserker and Giant Gonzalez those guys got heat on him, attacked him, etc. That said, if this does lead to the return of Papa Shango, I will mark out. I can't wait to see black ooze mysteriously appear on Michael Cole's forehead.

This really does suck. Just seems like not too long ago everyone talked about how virile he was to have kids in his 70s. The odd part of this obit to me was the whole part about him being most famous for the Odd Couple. When I think Tony Randall I first think of him in the Hudson/Day movies as Hudson's best friend and sometimes incompetent boss. God he was hilarious in those movies. He was the man.
