The odd thing is that I can't see him as a comic, since I've never seen any of his Australian comedy work. I doubt he gets nominated for best supporting though....that's Peter O'Toole's category and he's way more deserving.

Yeah but feud is excused because I've tried to wipe out all post 1997 Bulldog feuds from my memory. I don't really mind stupid reasons for a feud as long as it's not the main event angle. A plethora of HHH feuds last year had horrible reasons, such as the Steiner feud (who was the better bodybuilder), the Nash feud (feuding over who was Shawn's BUTT buddy or something), etc. The Jericho/Kane feud actually made a bit of sense. After all, at that point Kane believed himself to be horribly burned and disfigured and didn't take kindly to someone dumping hot coffee on him, accident or not.... Yeah ok, it still sucked.

Well, earlier it was stated that the whole thing with Achilles's heel was never delved into. That would be a minor quibble I had. The audience was just supposed to know the backstory of Achilles, which I guess is having respect for the viewer (either that or laziness). 30 seconds of conversation could have solved that though: "Yeah, the dude was dipped in the river aside from his heel...." I too would like to see Sean Bean in The Odyssey sequel. It's interesting how we'd be expected to make a 180 turn though, rooting him on to kill off his wife's suitors while in Troy we were expected to condone a guy for stealing someone's wife. Or maybe not condone but go along with it for the sake of the plot.

I saw the movie yesterday and liked it a lot. It wasn't quite ROTK level good but it was excellent. Pitt was ok but Achilles is sort of a hard role to play and I couldn't really think of too many ideal choices for him (Russell Crowe maybe?). My dad and I both agreed that Peter O'Toole stole the movie big time with his scene with Achilles in the tent. There was one part of it where I laughed my ass off. It was when Paris and Helen were discussing their plans and Paris was like "We can run away together and live off the land....I will hunt rabbits and deer." There was just something hysterical about that line. Was anyone else amused by it?

There's one huge problem with a Rey heel turn: absolutely no one buys Rey as a heel threat. I do think RVD and Rey will have a split feud but RVD almost has to be the heel here since he's bigger than Rey and can bully him around in the ring a bit. Besides, does anyone REMEMBER Rey's crappy heel run in WCW with the Filthy Animals? RVD's actually a kick ass heel if they give him the right material.

Yeah Kerplunk is a terrific CD, which I have as well. But I didn't list it because the 2nd half of it becomes slightly mediocre and thus isn't a ***** album. More like a ****-****1/2 album. Offspring "Ignition" is another album I like quite a bit, but I can't really call it a ***** album due to the crappy production and sound quality it has. There isn't really a BAD song on it per se, but if it had even Smash's production it'd be fabulous. I don't really get the hate for Ixnay. The people who wouldn't like it are those who would prefer stuff more like Americana, which was decidedly more pop oriented. Ixnay is a more serious album aside from stuff like Don't Pick it Up. At any rate I think anyone would agree that Smash is their best album. The perfect mix of hard hitting rage and silly humor. I love that CD, it was my main CD of the Summer of 1994.

I take umbrage with the notion that Booker and RVD got no reaction. They weren't old school Rock and Roll Express type over but they were well liked by fans. That said, it was a marriage of convenience.

New Found Glory does indeed suck ass but a lot of these lame emo/pop punk type bands are just bleh, not really the worst band on earth or anything. I too am a bit surprised at Nickelback being such a landslide winner. If anything they've gotten better since stuff like "Leader of Men." I voted for GNR personally, mainly because I've ALWAYS thought they were shitty. Yes, even when they were popular in the late 80s...I thought they sucked dick even then. I think most of this loathing is due to Rose himself though, since I actually kinda like this new Velvet Revolver song with Weiland on vocals.

It's interesting that people have badmouthed Green Day. I'd say Dookie is a ***** album, or at the least a ****1/2 one (you could argue a couple tracks near the end are throwaways). It's interesting that Offspring have been mentioned so much here. Smash and Ixnay are both great, but I can't really say Americana is a ***** album. Maybe **** to big Offspring fans though, like myself. It's also interesting that no one has dissed them for being mentioned. I dunno what makes a ***** album. I just use the method of "What are my favorite CDs?" I haven't really ever heard a CD where EVERY song was great. Even Nevermind has Territorial Pissings (which I've never liked much) and In Utero has the goofy throwaway Tourette's. And most Black Sabbath stuff has the Tony Iommi instrumental and what not. Thus, I'd say a ***** album would have to be something where about 4/5 of the CD would be awesome.

Yeah Uptight was a nice song and King For a Day was also cool, but Nimrod is just one of those albums you sorta forget about and then put on one day and say "Hey this is decent." In other words it's about a ***1/2 album, not a *****.
-
Well, to me In Utero is the better overall album. Nevermind is more of a collection of singles. And Nimrod? I have the CD but it's never struck me as anything classic. Decent stuff but there's quite a bit of filler, or at least stuff that didn't make any impression.

Eddie WAS in the Filthy Animals in late 1999, along with Rey, Konnan, and Kidman. This was during the goofy Russo "Powers That Be" angle. I remember Eddie stole Flair's watch.
-
Gotta go with: Nirvana: both In Utero and Nevermind Offspring: Smash, Ixnay Rancid: And Out Come the Wolves (I don't care for much of their stuff but this CD is awesome) Green Day: Dookie, and also the early 1039 Slappy Hours or whatever it was called...it's a bunch of EPs Black Sabbath: basically anything from Paranoid through Sabotage.
-
Yeah I like this song, as it sounds a lot more like STP than it does GNR. It's funny how much better the band sounds with a decent vocalist, haha.

I just can't see Kane winning this. It make zero sense to me. Jericho has apparently ended his feud with Christian so it's time to move him on to Benoit. It'd be a better match, and besides Kane has an issue with Matt and Lita.

I think the whole Limp Bizkit debate has led to a couple of misunderstandings. Initially I think it was said that LB was the best of a crappy genre (rap rock). Then someone else took it to mean they were the best of nu metal. I might go along with Bizkit being ok for rap rock, but there's better nu metal stuff. Korn grunge? Hell no. I have a vague recollection of Korn circa 1994 when they got some brief airplay. If anything I recall how put off I was because they sounded so different from the bands that were popular at the time (mainly grunge). Actually I'm STILL put off by Korn to some extent, when I'm not laughing my ass off at them.

Van Hellsing: Thoughts, opinions, and criticism!
cabbageboy replied to Downhome's topic in Television & Film
By the way, was anyone else a bit pissed about the false advertising here? They advertised The Wolfman as being in this but I didn't see Lawrence Talbot anywhere. Sure, Kate's bro was a werewolf and Van Helsing himself turned into one but that's just standard werewolf stuff. The Wolfman is Lawrence Talbot. It's like advertising Dracula but not having Dracula, instead just a routine vampire. -

I'm torn over this. I was expecting a goofy Mummy remake type movie from Sommers and that's what it was. There were a few things I enjoyed, such as VH himself turning into a werewolf near the end (oh the irony). Frankenstein's Monster was also fairly decent. But my god Richard Roxburgh was just HORRIBLE as Dracula. After seeing the way Dracula and Ygor were portrayed here I wondered if Lugosi was rolling over in his grave. It's pretty dire when you almost wish for Frank Langella, haha. -
Oh god, as a U of L alum and fan the whole thing makes me sick. The Telfair thing was bad enough, particularly when Tubby Smith snatched Rajon Rondo out from under Pitino. Now a friggin junior college guy thinks he can go pro? To be honest I think Pitino is washed up. He's still operating as though it is 1994 instead of 2004, using the same style of play and same recruiting methods regardless of whether it actually still works. I might be wrong about this, and hopefully I am, but I can't see U of L ever winning or doing anything notable under Pitino.

Who is the most reliable wrestler...

I can't recall RVD ever injuring Jericho...he might have busted him open a couple of times but nothing serious. And yes, RVD and Jericho are two of the guys who usually deliver. Believe it or not, I'll also give props to Kane in this area....horrible angles, bad character directions...but the dude is always THERE. -

Back to Dracula. Thing is, how many people have common knowledge of the book Dracula? Maybe he did die in the book via a double stabbing to the throat and chest and could go around in daylight....but what mythology do people really KNOW? They know he dies mainly via sunlight or having a stake through his heart. More recent vampire movies seem to go out of their way to toss aside all the rules, and to me it all just comes off like postmodern bullshit that is trying in vain to be hip. -

Well no, From Dusk Till Dawn doesn't really have any depth in terms of the vampires. I just meant that it got the ground rules right on what they fear, their strengths, etc. -

The thing I'm tired of is the constant revisions of Dracula lore and vampires in general. All this stuff in recent movies like "Oh, Dracula CAN go around in daylight, he isn't afraid of crosses, wooden stakes don't do anything." This is all bullshit and I'm sick of it. Hell, the last movie I saw that was faithful to vampire myth was From Dusk Till Dawn of all things. -
I was about to say, no one even went to see Pitch Black to begin with....why would there be a sequel to it? And yes, Chronicles of Riddick looks like a Matrix ripoff and not a good one at that.

Championship match for Bad Blood announced
cabbageboy replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
Kane makes zero sense whatsoever and I can't believe they would consider this. Jericho at least made mention of not getting a title shot in a long time. But Kane? He's had no interest in the belt since Dec., he's jobbed badly to the Taker at WM, and just last month jobbed to Edge at a PPV. How on earth could they possibly make him a #1 contender? Well, they DID find a way to make Bradshaw #1 contender.
