    Return of the King Trailer

So I guess this begs the question: What is the precise definition of spoiler? Is it mentioning something that 100% happens in a movie, or is it saying vague rumors as well? Anyway, from here on I'll use the tags on anything that might remotely give away stuff. Here's a wild one for you: Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I emailed the reporter at Ain't It Cool News who had some Sauron rumors (the stuff about him fighting Aragorn, or not showing up at all, etc). Anyway, the latest bizarre rumor is that Sauron may well show up at Mt. Doom to confront Frodo and try to take back the ring. The logistics of this sound a bit difficult to figure, but if it's done right it could be cool.

    WWE news from Keller

Personally I think if you take the Warrior of 1990 or so and put him against RVD it would be a cool as shit match. Warrior was a much better wrestler than given credit for.

    Return of the King Trailer

I was just going by stuff I've heard in the book, I don't even know if this happens for sure in the movie.
  4. Isn't Intolerable Cruelty coming out next week as well? The Coens movie with Clooney and Zeta Jones.

    Biggest disappointment

This is the sort of bizarre thread that would be like "Luger was a disappointment." Let's face it, Luger was booked like shit for most of his career....never winning the big one until it was WAY too late, didn't even beat Flair for it, numerous heel/face turns, not beating Yokozuna, it's all pretty glaring. With any sort of sensible booking Luger would have drawn better than he did, and the same goes for RVD, Booker, and Jericho.

    Return of the King Trailer

Here is the thing I'm wondering: How is Liv Tyler any sort of draw? I can't think of any particular starring vehicles she's ever had that made any money. So why bother to build up a nonexistant role for her? As I've said, the LOTR movies succeed almost in spite of a few things. As stated, the romance subplot is quite mediocre. And really, the whole Sauron side of the Two Towers is very vague and doesn't exactly build to ROTK. That's mostly due to Sauron not really being around, it's kinda hard to do anything with him. Let's face it, if Saruman gets his early in ROTK they will need to do something more with Sauron. Otherwise the whole movie will have basically no real main heel, just a bunch of orcs, nazguls, trolls, etc. And no, the Witch King is not a main heel. Anyone who gets killed by a chick and a hobbit is not a main heel. After all, if you're gonna build Arwen's role you might as well build up Sauron. He's only the main villain.
  7. Face it: Vin Diesel is crap. He's full of his own self importance in every movie I've seen him in, and has no sense of humor either. To be a good action hero requires more than just being a ripped musclehead. You have to also have: 1. Witty one liners. 2. A sense of humor. 3. Rapport with the main heels. Now watch XXX. Diesel has NONE of this. His one liners were bad, he had no sense of humor at all, and no rapport whatsoever with the main heel. Compare this to say Commando, a cheesy but entertaining Arnold movie. Arnold has all sorts of fun one liners, sense of humor, and good rapport with Bennett. Also, I have to wonder why Vinnie would do a sequel to Pitch Black (a movie few people even saw) rather than a sequel to XXX (a movie that made about 140 million).

Who's next to win the world title

I'd say Eddie is the primo guy to go with on SMDN at this point. Edge is certainly a good idea as well but let's see how he performs once he is back before discussing a title run. Cena will likely get it but not for quite a while. SMDN more than anything just needs some new guys at the top. With Raw I have no idea. People keep saying Orton but putting the belt on him is such a fucking retarded move that I can't even see WWE doing it for a LONG time. It sounds crazy but I still think they'll give it to RVD for a short time just to get him to resign.

Actually after seeing the Two Towers I want Aragorn to end up with Eowyn more than Arwen. Heh.

    More Gigli love

The Brit critics are mainly just bashing Gigli because everyone else is doing so. It really isn't as bad as all that, I actually would give it *1/2 for the crazed Pacino cameo and a few other slightly amusing parts. And yes, I did go to see this at the theater mainly to see how bad it would be.

    Return of the King Trailer

If ROTK doesn't win best picture this year you won't hear the end of the bitching. I can see why the first two didn't win since the story was still going (whereas in GF 1 and 2 they were self contained essentially). In fact I haven't read the books either and I can't remember ever being so stoked for a movie.
  12. SMDN has got to be better than Raw right now. I mean even my dad, who has long thought SMDN to be the B show, thinks SMDN is better these days. Mostly due to..... UNCLE EDDIE~!
  13. Let's see, in ECW I recall RVD cutting some of his wild anti ECW/pro WWF promos (such as the one at Barely Legal). And that promo especially was DAMN good. Bill Alfonso had little to do with that promo. Besides, WWE also tapes a bunch of backstage promos and skits so that argument makes no sense. I'm not in denial over this....I SAW THE STUFF. Let RVD be a cocky overbearing heel, give him a manager, maybe a lacky or two. He'd be great.
  14. I never want to hear this "RVD has no mic skills" argument again. For the final time, I will say the following: RVD was quite good and at times great on the mic in ECW. The WWE has no clue as to what his character is about, merely focusing on the stoned out surfer aspect. They haven't focused at all on RVD's ultra cocky smugness, his "You can't beat me" attitude, etc. At times they've hinted at RVD making amusing asides at a tag partner (like his comment on all the various stuff he would do to an opponent, while Kane would just do the chokeslam). I have reasonable demands. All I would like to see is RVD get a world title win at some point. He could job it back at the next PPV, but at least he will have won it. It's quite honestly insulting that he hasn't won a world title, either in ECW or the WWF. Don't they realize the sort of awesome moment they have waiting there?
  15. First off, yes RVD is more over than Goldberg. Let's review shall we: Goldberg has been fed the Rock, Jericho, and most recently HHH and has jobbed once (to a sledgehammer) after crushing 3 men. Despite being given the title about 5 months into his WWE tenure Goldberg still gets boos and "You suck" chants. Now let's look at RVD. He's been jobbed mercilessly to Kane for months, treated as a bitch in the Kane/Shane feud, gone out on a stretcher. Despite this the crowd still almost universally supports him and was thrilled when he won the IC on Raw. I'm telling you, if RVD ever won the world title the crowd would go apeshit.

    Return of the King Trailer

I saw a crappy download online, it seemed pretty cool. I'd like to see it in a theater or on TV to judge better though. And yes, the movie is going to rule.

    Scarface collectors set

Oh, and in regards to the dumbass at Suncoast, I did in fact mention the original Scarface to him and correct him....he had never heard of it. He literally meant the Pacino movie was the original, not just the original DVD release.
  18. cabbageboy

    Scarface collectors set

Ok, I don't have the new DVD set but I do have factory tapes of both Scarface movies. The original film is vastly better, it's not even close. Let me count the ways....some might consider this spoilers but I figure anyone reading this thread has seen some version of it: 1. Running time. The original Scarface is about 93m and moves at a very fast pace. Tony shoots people, hits on his boss's chick, takes out rival mobs, beats his sister, gets shot down by the police. The remake tells basically this same exact story and yet takes 3 HOURS??? 2. Paul Muni is preferrable to Pacino in this role. Yes, Pacino has a lot of wild over the top lines but this was the origin of Pacino being a parody of himself. Muni is dangerous, humorous, ignorant, jealous, even sympathetic. 3. George Raft is obviously preferrable to Stephen Bauer. Hell, the original has Raft originating the legendary "gangster flipping the coin" routine. Does Bauer do anything at all memorable? I'm baffled as to why the original Scarface isn't as well known. In terms of the 30s gangster cycle it was better and more violent than anything with Cagney, Bogart, or Edward G. Robinson.

    Scarface collectors set

Here's a funny story about Scarface. I was in Suncoast one time in the DVD section, and one of the employees discussed various titles with me. He said something to the extent of "Sometimes DVDs go out of print, like the ORIGINAL Scarface with Al Pacino." I honestly wanted to just verbally tear that guy apart. Incidentally, what is with all the love for the Pacino remake? It's just Brian DePalma doing his usual ripping off of better directors (usually Hitchcock, in this case Howard Hawks).

    Mark Henry

This might sound insane but I don't really mind Mark Henry if he's a silly dumbass. As an actual vicious heel force he's horrible (as his past few weeks with Teddy have shown), but the guy is quite amusing at times. He's kinda like the Big Show in that respect, though Show is certainly a better wrestler. Anyway this Henry mini push is nothing to get excited about. He'll go for the bounty, GB will squash him, case closed.
  21. The KOTR final vs. Brock wasn't the main event of that show though. The riveting HHH/UT title match was. If the crowd was depressed with that match I can hardly blame them. It was the worst booking decision of the past 5 years having Brock stomp RVD. It led to Brock getting pushed too hard too fast (and frankly he hasn't drawn a dime), and now has very little left to accomplish. And since RVD didn't get the title shot vs. the Rock at SS I don't think his career has ever quite righted itself. You know why that decision was so fucking stupid? Here you have RVD, a guy who is quite over with no push and incredibly over with any kind of push. Now you have Brock, a jacked up rookie with no heat to speak of. It seems like the obvious thing is go with the guy who is actually over, and push him even harder...while keeping your hoss rookie fairly strong and let him build some heat over a few months. Yeah, Brock started drawing some heat at SS with the Rock. Now just imagine if it had been RVD vs. the Rock in that match. Imagine how over RVD would have been if Rocky had jobbed clean to him. I still maintain that they'll probably throw the world title on RVD sometime next year. Once they do the whole idiotic HHH/Orton feud and Orton has the title, you know Orton will flop horribly as champ. And since RVD's contract will be up it'll be a nice incentive for him to sign a new deal to give him some sort of title run. Back to the original point of this thread. No, JR didn't actually say RVD will never win the world title. He just said he is the best guy who hasn't won the title yet. Now, unless they are truly retarded this has to be going SOMEWHERE doesn't it? I mean, surely JR wouldn't keep mentioning it if they weren't going to give him the title sometime. And to close this, should RVD win the title I would mark out to unheard of levels. I'm talking about "Louisville wins the title in 1986" kind of marking out here (even if I was only about 6 then).

Rock's not a movie star yet

I might actually go the other way here. I will actually throw out an odd theory: The Rock is being hurt not so much because he is perceived as a wrestler, but rather that his actual fanbase (WWE fans) are now viewing him as turning on the wrestling industry. Scorpion King was a fairly big hit due to 1. its connection to the Mummy movies and 2. the Rock's WWF fans going to see it. Well, the Rock has spent less and less time on WWE TV lately and interest in his movies is waning.

Rock's not a movie star yet

Zsasz beat me to it. I haven't actually seen Finding Nemo, but I'm baffled as to how it was a disappointment in that it made about 334 million and most critics gave it nice reviews. X2 wasn't really a disappointment, it got extremely good reviews (**** in the paper here in Louisville, though that is a bit high really) and made about 214 million. I thought it was a good movie. Matrix Reloaded is the only one here that could be considered a disappointment. Yeah I know it made 280 million but the movie got lukewarm reviews and I know I certainly thought it was mediocre. A case of insane hype getting a movie a huge opening. By the way, it's too early to say Finding Nemo is the highest grosser of the year. I bet ROTK will make more.

    Week Four Prediction Thread.

Week 4 Schedule: Arizona Cardinals at St. Louis Rams...Rams Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns...Browns, I think Couch will have something to prove. Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans...JAX screws up in 3rd Q, Texans win close. New England Patriots at Washington Redskins...Patriots, could go either way. Philadelphia Eagles at Buffalo Bills...Bills take it at home, Philly 0-3. San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings...49ers over the banged up Vikes. Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers...Payback time for the Steelers. Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens...KC is my SB team from the AFC, so I'll take em. San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders...OAK should win. Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers...Falcons whip em. Dallas Cowboys at New York Jets...might sound nuts but I think Dallas takes it. Detroit Lions at Denver Broncos...easiest pick, Denver in a walk. Indianapolis Colts at New Orleans Saints...As much as I like the Colts this reeks of a bad homecoming for Manning. Saints by a TD. Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears (MNF)...I think the Bears win here since it's the reopening of Soldier Field. Incidentally, I'm considering doing some actual sports betting. Does anyone on here do online betting and know of some reputable places?

The One and Only Rundown Thread

The Rock has it all over Vin Diesel in every area: looks, acting ability, personality, comedic timing. Diesel is just an unappealing musclehead and I'm baffled as to what anyone would see in him. In terms of guys like Sly and Arnold, the Rock does have a clear edge: He can actually speak properly. Arnold is an Austrian so he has the accent....but what is Stallone's excuse?
