I think Keith is basically trying to get people interested in anything that is an alternative to WWE at this point. And that, was my 1200th post.

Oh no, Booker and RVD vs. HHH and Orton on house shows. Let the double burying begin! On the upcoming house show here in Louisville I think it is RVD/Booker/Shawn vs. HHH/Flair/Orton. The only thing I know there is that Shawn won't job for his team, heh.

Yeah, the whole Brock/Steph thing was a non factor....Eddie/Cena in the street fight is what most people tuned in to see.

LOTR: TTT Extended Ed. DVD Details...
cabbageboy replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Television & Film
Well, at the least I'd figure Sauron has to have a cameo when the ring is destroyed and he vaporizes or blows up. Something like that, but who knows. As far as other changes, the Saruman change is something that basically had to be done...without Saruman there is essentially no main heel for most of the films. As far as the Hobbits as a whole the EE of FOTR does a great job introducing them. Frodo, Bilbo, and Sam are well introduced but even in the EE I found Merry and Pippen's first few scenes a bit confusing (I since know they are Frodo's relatives but this isn't made all that clear). -
Aw man that would suck ass. The betrayal of it all. That said, it would be terrific if it led to a long term angle of Eddie wanting the title, and finally getting it at WM.

I'll go with: 1. Eddie....He is the man right now. 2. RVD....Fuck the WWE, I'll like who I want despite him being jobbed out. 3. Cena....His rap promos and old jerseys are a lot of fun, though he could improve in the ring.

The parking lot match was a great example of the awesomeness of Eddie. Hell, it might well have been Cena's best match so far. Think about that! It's a friggin parking lot match, those usually suck pretty bad. Yet Eddie did so many inventive and hilarious spots in it that it became quite brilliant. I thought going in that this might be the sort of dumbshit match that would hurt Eddie's momentum. I was happy to be wrong.

LOTR: TTT Extended Ed. DVD Details...

This will sound odd, but I do like the LOTR movies. In fact they're probably the best movies of the new millenium thus far. I'm at a fever pitch waiting for ROTK. That said, if I don't understand certain elements in the films, it's because some of it is almost impossible to express in film. I haven't really understood what the ring is supposed to do for its owner, since everone who has had it seems to have their lives ruined (even Sauron himself). The ring "speaking" to Frodo is also a difficult concept to convey in a film. Oh, by the way I did end up emailing a guy named Demosthenes at theonering.net and asked about Sauron. He said Sauron wasn't going to fight Aragorn or anything like that, but that most likely Sauron would be present at the final battle at the gates (giving orders, overseeing, etc). Sounds like a good compromise to me....not such a radical idea that Tolkien purists will have a fit, and will give the regular moviegoer a better idea of Sauron. -

Well, the ring itself is an inanimate object and thus can't really gain a lot of heel heat. To be honest I can't see why having the ring is so desirable...Sauron had it and got his ass kicked anyway, Isildur had it and died, Gollum had it for years and you see the shape he's in. I don't think people fully understand Christopher Lee's importance to the LOTR movies. With major villains such as Sauron (a guy that isn't even in physical form for most of the story), the Ring (inanimate object), and a bunch of orcs (shit monsters, as my dad calls em) there isn't a whole lot of credibility here. Orcs just get killed by the dozen whenever they run up against our heroes. The Wraiths are afraid of water, fire, and got punked by LIV TYLER. Wormtongue is a snivelling little shit that Gandalf dismissed with little fanfare. That all leaves it up to Christopher Lee as Saruman. He is literally the only credible heel in the entire series as far as I'm concerned. He's the only villain who seems like a threat. I'm fairly sure that Saruman is going to die early in the ROTK, so they really will need someone for the audience to hate. -
It's kinda hard for the NWA to beat WWE in the ratings considering they don't have a TV show, just PPV.

First off, I do believe Sauron has an actual human form of some sort in the book. He just doesn't show up to do anything (I'm not 100% on this though). So if he has a human form I think Jackson has to show him at some point, just not necessarily fighting someone. Could someone post a link to that interview where Jackson said denied the whole Sauron/Aragorn fight idea? -
Well, I think that RVD (if he resigns with WWE) will eventually get a title run. It'll be a transition run though, mostly just as a reward for signing his contract. As far as my comment on the X division, the entire X roster is made up of guys doing things that RVD did back in ECW. There isn't an NWA PPV that goes by where I don't see some stuff that RVD did. Hell in that interview with Jeff Hardy he said it was an honor just to job to RVD.

LOTR: TTT Extended Ed. DVD Details...

Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Yeah I realize that Sauron wasn't actually shown in the book ROTK. But here's the thing, in the book it sounds as though Saruman ends up being the main heel. After all, he dies in the Shire at the end, after the ring is destroyed and all. But since Saruman gets killed near the beginning of ROTK, don't you think at that point they HAVE to have Sauron show up and do something? How can you go another 3 hours or so with no real main heel? The Witch King and Mouth of Sauron both sound promising, but essentially they are secondary heels. For it to truly work, we almost have to have the man himself. I have heard a rumor that Sauron does in fact show himself in ROTK and fights Aragorn before the ring is destroyed (and thus him too). Kahran, what do you think of that whole idea? -

Heh, funny you say that because I wanted Aragorn to ditch Arwen for Eowyn after seeing Two Towers. LOTR has managed to be awesome after 2 movies despite some difficult problems to overcome: 1. Mediocre romance plot (the Arwen stuff). 2. A main heel who isn't even around (Sauron). Though I dunno, maybe he'll be in the ROTK. I'm actually a bit worried about ROTK, since Christopher Lee has been THE heel in the first two movies. He's had to carry the whole heel side of things. Every other villain is just a mindless orc of some sort waiting to be killed. Sauron hasn't done jack shit and frankly doesn't impress me. I have heard Sauron technically doesn't appear in the book ROTK, but just seeing a big flaming eye won't get it done over 3 movies in my book. -
RVD is basically cashing the check at this point. You can see it when he's out there. After the way he's been treated he just doesn't give a shit anymore. Hell I hope he does go to the NWA. The entire X division is made up of guys who probably worship him.

Kurt Angle has a major problem and it's not really something he can change easily: He comes off as an insincere dickhead. This was fine when he first debuted and it was his gimmick, but now that he's the alleged top face on SMDN it's a detriment. In terms of his ring work, I've always thought he was very good but has a drawback. His matches come across like a skilled guy doing tribute matches to other wrestlers. At one point Angle was using Ken Shamrock's anklelock, Benoit's German suplexes, and even Bret's old figure 4 around the post. I actually find Eddie a very complex character. He lies, cheats, steals...but he's quite honest about it. Yet he also seems loyal to his family and nephew Chavo, and relates silly stories like the one on his great great grandma recently. Hell he even takes in orphans off the street (Little Timmy~!).

Well the DVD set sounds great and I will no doubt get it either when it comes out or for Christmas. I think people rag on Liv because the whole romance subplot is very underdeveloped and comes off like they just tossed a chick into the story for the sake of having a female character. Eowyn comes off better because she actually has something to do. Also, Liv gets flack for getting an insane 3RD BILLING (over Viggo Mortensen for god's sake and he's the main warrior hero) for doing next to nothing. -
The question here is this: why was RVD a shocking breakout star when he arrived in the WWF? I wasn't shocked, I fully expected him to tear it up. By mid 2001 the WWF in ring style had gotten so dull that someone like RVD would stun fans. Eddie and Cena are the guys here. Eddie moreso right now because he's by far the better wrestler, but Cena can cut a great promo.

For whatever reason I pulled out my old tape of Deliverance last night and watched it. Possibly due to it being on the I Love the 70s show for 1972. God that is still a disturbing movie. We all know about the notorious Ned Beatty "Squeal like a pig boy!" scene with the rednecks, but there are other things in the movie that still make me wonder on repeat viewings: --Was Drew really shot, or was Lewis imagining it? --Was that the other redneck or was that just some guy hunting? --Was the deputy's brother in law one of the two main rednecks? Anybody wanna chime in on this stuff?

Sadly enough, it's not gonna happen anytime soon. WWE has become so rigid and constructed that they want to manipulate EVERY reaction from the crowd. Anything that deviates from it is downplayed or depushed. Eddie is the one exception to this, but hell I can see Eddie winning the US title whether he was insanely over or not. If he wins the World title sometime soon, maybe they are in fact listening. As far as Eddie's character being a comedy role, at first it was. But Eddie is just soooo the man that he's transcended a comedy gimmick and made it very plausible, a complete character. He's funny at times, but if you mess with him or steal his ride, he'll kick your ass.

First off, let's review the context of Bret's statement that he "carried" the Bulldog. He'd had a major falling out with Davey Boy, and was likely to say anything that would belittle his accomplishments. Watch the match. Yeah, Bulldog looked nervous and got winded fast and Bret took to the mat for a few minutes, but after that Bulldog gets his bearings again and it's all good. I certainly never got the impression that Bret was doing 100% of the work in it.

I think I'll go with Eddie here. He'll cheat to win it of course.
-
I think Austin was pissed over jobbing to Brock on a Raw with little to no build. He felt that the match should be saved for a PPV (which I agree with). Of course he probably also didn't like the prospect of jobbing to a rookie. I wasn't looking forward to the Eddie/Austin feud because let's face it...Eddie was jobbing every time and we all know it.

I couldn't help but think that Brock has spent way too much time watching Richard Widmark in Kiss of Death.

I can't see them giving Eddie the world title at WM. It's not that I wouldn't want to see it, but I just won't believe it till I see it. Know what I mean?
