Yeah I think Killings is going to get over nicely on SD. Looking forward to his debut. As far as Kendrick goes, they can't seriously put him in a PPV main event. I would assume from seeing this show that next week Big Show goes to Vickie and demands a match with Kendrick to get into the Scramble, and of course squashes him dead. As far as MVP goes, why exactly would fans in the arena be into him? His ring music is so soft and laid back it doesn't excite anyone, and then he proceeds to do nothing but work an armbar for 10 minutes. Aside from a few of the Benoit US title matches he had in 2007 I haven't really seen much in MVP's ringwork.

Here's what I don't get about that women's title match....why not just put the belt on Mimi? She was obviously more over with the crowd, the company was tanking and about to go under, so why not throw the fans that are left a bone? What makes that match even more bizarre is that Mimi was teaming with Col. DeBeers on a previous episode and Devine worked face. Did they ever explain this double turn?

Yeah it has to be this show where Vince chewed out Diesel, since Nash didn't main event the Dec. PPV (that was Bret vs. Bulldog....great match too). Just wondering but what exactly did Vince get pissed about? Did Nash go against the plans that were laid out in the back for the main event?

Does it sound odd that Jason Statham is also one of my favorite actors at the moment, yet I can't recall ever seeing a single one of his movies at the theater. It's like his stuff is all best enjoyed as either a DVD purchase or rental. I wish he was in the new Guy Ritchie movie, but Gerard Butler is in it instead (not that that is a bad thing). Butler and Statham....how about a teaming of those guys?

What's the best match you've ever seen live?
cabbageboy replied to Chui's topic in General Wrestling
How could I forget HBK vs. Flair from this year's WM? Maybe it was being so far from the ring, I dunno. Great match though. Diamonddust, you stunned with that RVD comment. I had no idea he worked any WWF dark matches right before debuting in the Invasion (aside from that brief 1997 ECW crossover). I even read the internet at the time and never heard about that, so I was in total shock when he and Dreamer attacked on that fateful Raw. It will be bittersweet to see those Alliance Era Raw shows on 24/7 in a few years, just to see how insanely over Van Dam was and how WWE eventually cut him off at the knees. -
I have to admit I have really been digging the Karen's Angle segment. It seems like every week something bizarre happens on it, from Kaz quitting the company to Frank Trigg berating Karen and calling her a slut, to this week having Machismo attack Dutt on the set. I didn't think this would ever be a highlight of Impact, but it is.

Only if they job Austin out to Adamle the way they wanted to job him to the Coach. It still blows my mind that they wanted to do that and then also wanted Austin to wrestle Hogan at WM after that.
-
Oh lord, Chaz. There's a name I haven't heard in about 15 years. I remember an angle in Global where someone had their cheesy pinto type car vandalized, anyone have any idea who was involved? I'm hazy on it.

WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion
cabbageboy replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in WWE Multimedia
It's funny but back in the 80s there were a lot of roid based angles. If you've watched old AWA shows on ESPN Classic of late you no doubt have seen the Col. DeBeers vs. Scott Hall feud where DeBeers refused to wrestle Hall because he was a roid freak. -
No, no. I didn't really think the NWO was going to actually wreck WCW when it was happening. I referred more to Sept. 1995 and the angles and roster WCW had, and while the WWF was certainly down I thought there was no way WCW could succeed long term going against Raw.
-
I'm just saying this...if they aren't building Kozlov to do something fairly major then what's the point of him being there and squashing people? They'll almost have to pay it off with some sort of PPV title match with HHH, even if it's to job him out.
-
I might consider putting her on the SD roster instead of Raw. SD is in need of a core group of women workers if they are serious about the Divas title beyond it being a prop for McCool. In a way I can't say I blame Kim for leaving TNA, though we don't currently know her reasons. But let's face it, she was supposed to be the top woman wrestler in the promotion and they had her in the Sting/Vader type feud with Kong, but eventually that all fizzled out and TNA put the belt on quite literally a chick from the crowd.

You know, getting back to that Bulldog heel turn....I got the SS box set and it seemed like Bulldog had already done a heel turn, maybe the week before the PPV. I didn't recall that at all. In fact I thought he turned heel in Sept. 1995, which led to this PPV's main event in October. How laughable is it that he did the heel turn the week BEFORE SummerSlam, blatantly telegraphing that Diesel had to beat Mabel and then face the new heel challenger Bulldog. That booking blows my mind.
-
I don't get the lack of current push for Kozlov. With Russia currently back in the news it seems obvious that Kozlov could be pushed as a top heel. He's sort of a question mark at the moment, mostly squashing people but showing some signs of being decent in more lengthy matches (like with Festus this past week).
-
Coach wasn't too bad but his segments are mostly kept short. Just the brief bits showing a highlight, that sort of thing. I'd almost like to see him mediate 1st and 10 and try and corral Bayless and whoever.
-
I'm trying to think of whether I've seen this show or not. I know I saw the main event at one point, but I don't know when or why. I'm one of the biggest Bulldog fans around, but I never liked that initial 1995 heel turn stuff at all.

Havoc 98 is in theory not one of the 10 worst PPVs ever from WCW, but it just makes my list because of how infuriated I was at the time. The show was pointlessly overlong and went off the air at 11:00 only to come back on a few minutes later. In all fairness there would likely be more from that horrid early Hogan era of 1994-95 if I had seen those shows. Oddly enough I didn't put the first Uncensored since that show is so laugh out loud bad that it's fun. A lot of pre Hogan WCW shows don't figure into a bottom 10 list simply because while the promotion might be lame or the booking is bad, there's generally some solid wrestling to be found. I thought about HH 1992 but decided that while it's a mediocre show it didn't offend me really, then the HH 98 show took that spot. And I have a soft spot for Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal.

The difference is that a regular TV show isn't trying to get you to buy a PPV. And generally all standard TV shows have a clear cut protagonist and antagonist. Shades of gray is fine with me if you keep it within some feasible limits. The Attitude Era was well known for its "shades of gray" but it had its limits. Take a look at the WM XIV card for a minute and you'll see a fairly clear cut designation between heel and face in most of these matches: Michaels (heel) vs. Austin (face) Rock (heel) vs. Shamrock (face) New Age Outlaws (heels) vs. Cactus/Funk (faces) HHH (heel) vs. Owen Hart (face) The only pushed match on that show that had a puzzling dynamic to it was the mixed tag with Mero and Sable, but even there Goldust and Luna were clearly heels. Sable was clearly face, Mero was the lone tweener and he later simply went 100% heel. Now I will admit by the time WM XV rolled around the heel/face dynamic was really blurred with stuff like HHH vs. Kane and UT vs. Bossman. And guess what, that show sucked and the lack of clear characters was a major part of it.

What's the best match you've ever seen live?
cabbageboy replied to Chui's topic in General Wrestling
I'll go with HHH vs. Rock in the Iron Man match from 2000. Though a surprise runner up might be Bret vs. Hakushi from a Raw taping in 1995. -
Oddly enough from what I've seen from GAB 91 I didn't think it was the worst PPV ever or anything. It seems boring more than anything. I wonder, without the Flair being fired aspect wouldn't that PPV simply be a forgettable show rather than a disaster? Here's the worst WCW dreck I have seen, not including GAB 91 (which I haven't seen all the way through): 1. Fall Braw 1998. My parents fell asleep, my brother fell asleep, my friends who came over both feell asleep. I was a trooper though...I watched it all. 2. Bash at the Beach 1999. My friend Ian came over again for this one and flat out left during the junkyard brawl. Awful, awful show. 3. Great American Bash 1999. The companion piece to the previous. 4. Halloween Havoc 2000. WCW actually wasn't too bad during that late 2000 period but man this show was a disaster. Awful, awful crap and showed Russo had lost his mind. 5. SuperBrawl 1995. You don't hear much about this show sucking, but it REALLY sucks. Aside from a competent Vader/Hogan main event (no decision of course) this show has no redeeming value. 6. SuperBrawl 2000. I had to get some Sullivan era trash on this list, and I haven't actually seen the more famed Souled Out 2000 fiasco. 7. Uncensored 2000. I had to put this on here on moral principles. It's not quite as bad as some suggest. It still sucks of course. 8. Fall Brawl 1999. WCW was totally falling apart at this point. It isn't notable enough to be higher on this list. 9. Halloween Havoc 1998. A controversial choice since the main event was actually good and Jericho vs. Raven was solid. But then you have Hogan/Warrior, a plethora of talky crap, Nitro Girls, the show went off the air before it ended, etc. Shows like this pissed fans off. 10. Starrcade 1999. The Russo regime was tanking by this point, at least the first Russo regime. I think Benoit and Jarrett had a decent match but otherwise this show blows and has a rehash of Montreal in the main event to boot.

Evan Bourne also isn't too bad of a ring name, Hawk. It's a pointless name change, but it isn't really a bad one. You can get over with a name like Bill Goldberg if you look like Goldberg and go out and destroy jobbers left and right with intense power moves. But Gavin Spears? Oddly enough I think that Colt Cabana should have been Gavin Goldman and then there could be Scott Spears. Those names have a ring to them at least.

They are fighting an almost impossible obstacle in getting people to buy Brian Kendrick as a world title threat. I know they are going for an HBK 1992-93 vibe with him but Kendrick is a runt compared to Michaels from back then (and Shawn wasn't a big dude). However, I can see MVP stealing a win in this thing. I'm pretty sure Adamle said that the title can change hands several times in the course of 20 minutes, so the guys who get a pin will in fact be considered former champs.

This might sound silly to some but why does everyone think Khali is the world's worst wrestler or anything like that? As far as his WWE work goes there is nothing to back up such a statement. His matches with Cena were pretty good, the recent match with HHH wasn't too bad, and the Last Man Standing he had with UT on SD was quite good. I don't want Khali main eventing Big 4 PPVs by any means, but he's fun in smaller doses. As far as Cena going over Batista in a rematch, isn't that the exact reason they should have done a no decision at the PPV? Once Batista went over clean at SS, it's blatant that Cena will get the job back if they do a rematch. The no decision would have been trashed by some, but at least it sets up a bigger match down the line where it would be tough to predict who would win.

Timmy, see to me that stuff is a blur between late era WCCW and when it became the USWA when Jarrett bought the company. By late era WCCW seeming depressing I refer more stuff like the Fritz heart attack angle and other things mentioned on the World Class DVD. You know what's truly funny (yet sad) about these 1990 AWA shows? They seem so gleefully oblivious to how bad the promotion is tanking. Bischoff is Mr. Happy, the announcers pimp things like there's no tomorrow, everyone is giving you basically whatever they've got. It's a total opposite of late era WCW where guys buried the company in radio interviews, buried the company on the air, and announcers basically admitted that the show sucked.

Honestly I can't recall anything on that Fully Loaded 99 PPV aside from the Austin/UT final blowoff to the Vince angle. What's sad is that I went to a Raw about a week before the show but yet can't recall much of the undercard. I think Rock and HHH had a decent match on it. I haven't seen KOTR 99 in forever but I don't recall it being a really heinous, terrible PPV. It was a mediocre show that I haven't had any interest in going back to see, didn't really have anything good on it, but good grief it was from the same month as GAB 99. It can't be as bad as that PPV.
